PlayON Player Picks – £1,000 GUARANTEED GAME – FREE ENTRY FOR ALL NEW SIGN-UPS

For the final time this season, we turn our attentions to PlayON, the weekly Fantasy Football game. Avoiding those clubs where rest and rotation seems most likely looks the key to success this week – Man City and Liverpool will be looking to turn on the style in their final home fixtures, with the Reds clinging to the hope that West Ham can upset the odds and win at the Etihad to hand them the title:

Tottenham also have something to play for – Tim Sherwood’s side need a draw to clinch Europa League qualification. Unsurprisingly, then, those three teams are the focal point of this week’s PlayON picks.

This week PlayON has a £1,000 GUARANTEED POT on offer – you can enter the game on the multiplayer page here. PlayON is also giving away FREE ENTRY into the £1,000 GUARANTEED game for all new sign-ups between now and 13.00 on Sunday afternoon – no deposit needed.

PlayON’s new desktop and mobile sites for World Cup 2014 are three weeks away from going live – more details on them over the next few weeks.

If you’re new to PlayON, it is weekly Fantasy Football so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built, you can compete for cash. You can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 51% win rate up to this point. You can also create an open challenge against anyone else on the site – just click the amount you want to play for and the number of slots (number of people who can accept your challenge) on the one-on-one page .

For a more in-depth introduction to PlayON, take a look at this season’s introduction article.

Goalkeeper – Joe Hart
The Man City number one comes in at 8.9m for a home clash against West Ham. In all likelihood, Manuel Pellegrini’s side need just a point to clinch the Premier League crown and look odds-on to prevail – Hart has two clean sheets in his last three matches, and with West Ham scoring just twice in their last trio of league fixtures, a home shut-out seems a likely outcome. Simon Mignolet sets you back a mere 7.0m for the Anfield clash with Newcastle. Granted, the Reds haven’t been the most resilient in recent matches, but bearing in mind the Magpies have failed to score in any of their last four road trips, a clean sheet could well be on the cards for Brendan Rodgers’ side. Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris is available for 8.7m and welcomes an Aston Villa side that have scored once in their last three away games.

Defender – Martin Skrtel
Priced at 9.6m, Skrtel is comfortably the most expensive option amongst Liverpool’s backline. As we’ve already seen on seven occasions this season, however, the Slovakian’s eye for goal has made him the most reliable defender for the Merseyside outfit and his aerial threat in the Newcastle box could be key once again as the Reds look to finish the season strongly. Tottenham’s Michael Dawson comes in at just 8.4m, and with Younes Kaboul suspended for the visit of Aston Villa, is sure to retain his start. Looking elsewhere, Chelsea’s Gary Cahill is priced at 9.6m for the Blues’ trip to relegated Cardiff. One of Jose Mourinho’s new batch of “Untouchables”, the centre-half will be hoping to help his side to a nineteenth clean sheet of the season.

Midfielder – Christian Eriksen
Available for 10.1m in the PlayON Player Price List, the Tottenham playmaker looks a canny acquisition this weekend. Eriksen has played a part in eight of his side’s 11 goals over the last trio of home fixtures – netting three times and providing five assists – and with visitors Aston Villa conceding four times in three of their last four on the road, the White Hart Lane outfit could be poised for a prosperous finale. David Silva comes in at a reasonable 9.3m for Man City’s game with West Ham and is likely to tuck in behind a lone striker once again if Sergio Aguero is ruled out, whilst Jordan Henderson is set to return to the Liverpool XI after serving a three-match suspension and, priced at 6.8m, could prove great value.

Forward – Daniel Sturridge
The Liverpool forward returned to the starting XI for Monday’s draw at Crystal Palace and was immediately back amongst the goals. Available for just 10.5m, Sturridge looks a sure starter at a time when a number of big-name strikers are either injury or rotation doubts, and with the Reds desperate to give their fans something to cheer about after their Selhurst Park capitulation all but ended their title hopes, the England international looks great value this Sunday. Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor is also easy on the budget at 10.8m for their favourable home encounter with Villa, whilst Edin Dzeko seems the safest bet as a route into Manchester City’ frontline. The Bosnian doesn’t come cheap at 12.2m, but he’s more than justified that valuation, having notched five times in his last three appearances to take the Etihad club to the brink of the league crown.

I know it's difficult to predict but I'm interested in people's opinions. Do you think Sterling and Sturridge are likely to score 4 points more than Ramsey and Wickham?

An interesting article on why Newcastle should sign Rémy. But it also makes a point for us FPL managers: Newcastle is much better now that Rémy is back.

    http://www.whoscored.com/Articles/n_fk_npkg0-nvr3ne94nqw/Show/Player-Focus-Form-Without-Remy-Shows-Why-Newcastle-Must-Sign-Him

This is interesting FPL wise because SaS plays against Newcastle in GW38. The points that matter for that GW:

    1) Bad streaks are when Rémy is out.

March 1st Newcastle routed Hull 4-1. Then Rémy got injured. They went on to lose 5 out of 6 matches he was away with goal difference 1-13, and won the second match that he started after that stint.

Yes, this victory was against Cardiff, who are not quite Liverpool but this pattern goes longer. Before Hull they won Villa, but before that they had a 4 match non-scoring streak during which they lost 3 games. Those three games coincided with suspension that Rémy served after picking a red card in the first match of that series. That was the Norwich match in which he hit the post twice. Before it, they had won West Ham away.

    2) Newcastle DEFENDS MUCH BETTER with Rémy.

Who you have in attack matters for the defence a lot more than people tend to think. In Newcastle's case the difference is striking:

1.17 goals conceded per match with Rémy
2.23 goals conceded per match without Rémy

That's over 1 goal/match difference. How about the times when Toon has conceded more than 2 goals? After all, that's what really interests us, because there are big striker hauls in those matches.

    Newcastle has conceded 3+ goals...

...in 4 of the 26 matches with Rémy (15%)
...in 7 of the 11 matches without Rémy (64%)

    Quite a difference.

    3) Conclusion.

Newcastle will most probably lose at Liverpool, but they will probably not be as poor as they have been recently. Newcastle's relegation form coincides with Rémy's absence, with him, they have done reasonably well. That also means Suarez & Sturridge against Newcastle might not be as appealing as people think, we should not be expecting 5-0 routing, rather something like 2-1.

nice post, crazy how many more goals theyve conceded without remy in the team, almost like they just give up when hes not there.

QPR could still get promoted though and why would they let him leave? Him and Austin would be deadly next year

Isn't it just amazing. 7 out of 11 games without their no 1 striker they've conceded 3 or more!!! Crazy!

Anyway, Newcastle seems to be over reliant on some individual players. Before, it was mostly Cabaye more than anybody. Now it seems to be Rémy. His absence seems to kill the whole team. It's precisely as if they just gave up, like you say.

Do they not have buy option in loan contract? I wonder why they haven't activated it. I think Rémy, in any case, has some kind of reasonable release clause in his contract, but it may be that he is looking for a move to a bigger club.

So, it is all about my 6 point lead in my ML.... these are the ones I'm going to war with at the moment...

    Manone
    Azpil, Flanagan, Evra
    Mata, Yaya (c), Nasri, Amalfi
    Suarez, Sturridge, Aguero

    Shaw, Mariappa, Mutch, Boruc

    I've got £1.7m and 0 transfers....

I'm tempted to play around with the midfield... Mata to Hazard? Mutch to someone?

    What would you do?

Long post but a bit lost on what to do so would appreciate some help. I was going to do Aguero to Sturridge but now that's up in the air. 1FT, nothing in bank and team is:

    Don Vito
    Kolarov, Azpilicueta, Alonso
    Nasri, Mata, Ramsey, Sterling
    Aguero, RVP, Suarez(c)

    Bench: Olsson, RIP, RIP, RIP

I don't want to take any hits as I see the starting XI as being strong but I feel there is genuine doubt over 4 of these players starting - Kolarov, Mata, Ramsey and Aguero. I'm confident Mata will start, not sure about Ramsey and Aguero but think they will see some minutes. Kolarov is the most likely to either not see any minutes at all or play the full 90. I don't expect him to start.

I'm thinking, and this is completely dull, that I just sell my 5.9m injured defender with a gurning face and put the replacement as 1st sub to cover for Kolarov/other absentees. The injured midfielder is Noone so no money for a transfer there. My only remaining aim for this season is to make up the 11 points required to get into the top 100k.

Ramsey needs a blow out before the cup.
Maybe not full game, but he makes such a difference running from deeper.
I am hoping he plays and does well - although *this may be more in hope to avoid a hit!!

I agree with your initial thought. Your starting 11 looks good to go, but you'd be lucky to have all om them starting. Since it is hard to pinpoint which of your uncertainties will let you down, strengthening your bench with a 5.9 defender sounds like a good idea.

Cheers. Really, I should be playing the replacement defender and benching Kolarov as I doubt he'll start but I have a weakness there 🙂

Your only risk is Kolarov coming on for a 1 pointer, really. I would get Kos in, but whether to play him or Kolarov is a toss up imo.

Yeah, I could actually put Alonso 1st sub instead and play the replacement. Kos is who I'm looking at getting but thinking Arsenal could put out a weakened team so I'm going to have a look into alternatives. Shame that Skrtel is 0.1m out of my budget.

As late as the last minute of transfer cut off time. Though if there's no indication, I won't go for this transfer anyways. Hits in the last GW are counter-productive, unless if you're short of starting XI

If Liverpool tries to go for a high scoring game, they will concede and Rémy will be involved in Newcastle's goals.

well there's no reason for liverpool to go all gung-ho again & the palace game wouldve shocked them into taking a bit of a look at themselves so i wouldnt expect another palace type result if i were you

So I was thinking Rooney, Aguero and Ramsey ---> RVP, Dzeko and Hazard -8

    And then I was thinking...

Rooney and Aguero ----> Sturridge and Dzeko -4

    But now I am thinking...

Rooney and Jones ---> Sturridge and Coleman -4

    Which seems best?

Ah sorry. Clearly not paying attention.

I don't see the value in taking a hit for a defender in the final GW, assuming you can field 3 at the back. I'd definitely do the sturridge transfer and consider Ramsey out for someone else if you wanted to take a hit.
