Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 39

As the final Gameweek approaches, our Sky weekly article draws to a close. Once again, we take a look at the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends.

Gameweek 38 Man of the Match Awards

Here’s a match-by-match breakdown of the players that won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Aston Villa vs HullAndreas Weimann
Everton vs Man CityJoe Hart
Man United vs SunderlandSebastian Larsson
Newcastle vs CardiffTim Krul
Stoke vs FulhamOussama Assaidi
Swansea vs SouthamptonLuke Shaw
West Ham vs TottenhamHugo Lloris
Arsenal vs West BromOlivier Giroud
Chelsea vs NorwichMichael Turner
Crystal Palace vs LiverpoolDwight Gayle
Man United vs HullAdnan Januzaj
Man City vs Aston VillaPablo Zabaleta
Sunderland vs West BromLee Cattermole

A very even split of awards this week with three goalkeepers, defenders, forwards and four midfielders claiming MoTM. The only players listed above with over 10% ownership were Pablo Zabaleta, Luke Shaw and Olivier Giroud, with many of the others having little impact across the rankings. Going into the final week Eden Hazard, Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez have the joint most MoTM awards for the season, with nine apiece.

Gameweek 38 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed five saves or more. Brad Guzan was the top performer with seven saves over the two games. Vito Mannone is still top overall with 30 additional points.

In defence, 21 players gathered bonus, seven for tackles and 14 for passes completed – full-back Marcos Alonso was the stand out performer here with two clean sheets and an assist to go with his tackling bonus. Swansea’s Angel Rangel leads the way for the defenders with 28 extra bonus points.

In midfield, 22 players earned bonus points – four for tackling and 20 for passes. United’s Michael Carrick managed tackling once and passing twice over the two games to earn an additional six points. Mikel Arteta is the games top bonus earner overall with 48 extra points.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
AgueroMan City9.810.04%
RamseyArsenal5.87%
RooneyMan Utd9.64.23%
OscarChelsea7.64.07%
GiroudArsenal8.53%

Wayne Rooney looks likely to miss out this week whilst Oscar remains a doubt for Chelsea. Sergio Aguero and Aaron Ramsey have been passed fit after recent injuries.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
DzekoMan City8.511.80%
ToureMan City8.67.09%
SterlingLiverpool4.84.62%
NasriMan City6.33.72%
SturridgeLiverpool9.23.68%

The top five transfers in unsurprisingly involve title chasing Liverpool and Man City players. With few teams left with anything to play for it looks a sensible tactic going into the final Gameweek.

Got a 8 point lead on my rival who has taken a -8 this week. I've used my FT to do Rooney>Sturridge already. Should I bring Dzeko in for Aguero? My rival has him and he could possibly captain him to catch up against me.

Cant believe he spent 8 points giving you a 16 point cushion, no id keep aguero in your position, chances of dzeko hitting double figures again are moderate and aguero will start if he is fit, thats the way pelle has used him all season

If money is involved, I'd consider covering. If you cover, what differentials does he have and can he still catch you?

His differentials are Sterling, Cazorla, Kompany and possibly Giroud. I have Toure, Ramsey, Aguero, Sturridge. He doesn't.

This is exactly the position I'm in, it's a real tough one, is it crazy to dump Aguero if he's fit to put a generally worse player in, but it's so tempting to cover the rivals!!!

Haha I'm trying to get as many opinions as possible. Dumping Aguero seems like a bad move but Dzeko's form scares me. I think I'll hold onto Aguero and hope for the best.

Just on and catching up for today. Are Aguero owners relieved or disappointed by today's news? I had made my peace with packaging him with Rooney to get in Remy and Suarez, but the hit seems much less justified now. Actually a bit disappointed to hold onto him now.

I highly doubt he will be rested especially after playing the whole season and this will be a game to try gel them all together as Wilshere, Ozil, Ramsey and Giroud will all be together for the first time since December time and this will be basically a pre-game before Hull

    Mannone, Boruc
    Zabaleta, Azpilicueta, Jones* Chester* McCartney
    Yaya, Eriksen, Ramsey, Mata, Colback
    Rooney*, Aguero, Suarez

    Jones & Rooney -> Baines / Cahill & Sturridge / Lukaku

Its a tight affair in my work league and absolutely capitulated in an awful DGW.

I can't risk taking a monster hit and already brought Suarez > Rooney

None of my rivals have Sterling - would Ramsey/Mata > Sterling be worth 4 points.

I think Ramsey may start to get minutes under his belt, Mata, who knows what Giggsy is doing!

I've been wanting Marco A for weeks and don't know whether to give him a shot.

    Thoughts appreciated

Big situation here, as it stands (before I take any hits) I am 1 point behind my rival. I have watched his team value intently, and know his transfers. His team he will be fielding is as follows:

    DDG

    Azpilcueta Coleman O'shea

    Nasri YYT Ramsey Eriksen

    Dzeko Sturridge Suarez

    Vs

    Mannone

    Azpilcueta Coleman Zabaleta

    Mata Ramsey Eriksen YYT

    Aguero Suarez Sturridge

    In summary it's

Him - DDG, O'shea, Nasri, Dzeko
Me - Mannone, Zabaleta, Mata, Aguero

Hello. On request from Applebonkers the Gargatron now shows how many unique players you owned during the season.

For those who have not heard about it it's a little extension for Google Chrome that I made half a year ago that shows some stats for your FPL team. It's available here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/gargatron-the-fpl-stats-m/kpbaoamnogjcokjojimpmbdkdgobdhoe?hl=en&gl=SE

To keep it simple: the more different players you owned for the season the more rock n roll you are. For example everybody's favourite maverick Granville has owned 69 players while self appointed dullard Jonty managed 56.

      Who can beat Granville?

I don't see it on the report, what am I missing? I've run the 'tron on my points page.

Also, only just noticed the 'Ranking' tab - really useful.

        Thanks!

              Hi JWF

This sounds peculiar. I'm afraid I don't know what the problem is, but hopefully it will just randomly start to work the next time you restart Chrome.

Try de-activating it and then activating it again. Could work!

Garg, just a thought, is it possible to add the total points per position that the team has scored? Woud be interesting to know how many points come from defence, midfield etc.

          Hi Milanista

Yes it is. I'll look into it and see how much work it would be, since that suggestion has now come from two different users. I might put it off until next season if it seems messy. Right now I don't log positions but it's certainly possible.

All gone to pot with an awful last GW.

Chasing and tumbled out of the top 10k.

Rooney and Mutch ➡ Sturridge and Sterling for a -4 and benching Rambo? Worth doing Mata ➡ Hazard for another -4.

Nothing to play for but would like a decent week to finish off

I have a sneaking suspicion that Liverpool won't have an easy time with Newcastle, especially if City go up early as the players will become aware given the reactions around the stadium..

I'm hoping then that Sturridge will be enough Liverpool cover so that I don't have to take unnecessary hits..

but I can't see City going up early... nervy against the biggest bus of all, West Ham.

so it could quite easily have the opposite effect on Liverpool.

make the argument fit your transfers. 😉

I am in the same situation as you, thinking of Mata/Ramsey to Sterling for 4.

Well the calamity that was GW37 destroyed my hopes of a top 1k finish, so now I'm caught between playing it safe or taking a couple of gambles to try finish as high as I can.

And yes I'm worried about Wickham so if I do Rooney > Sturridge I can afford Delph > Sterling and bench Wickham/Ramsey/Mata whereas if I bring in Suarez I'd have to ship Mata or Ramsey and hope the one I keep starts along with Wickham. :/

Wish I shared your confidence WR you think that's a better shout than Mata-Gerrard? And play 5 in mid?

Mata will prob play, Rooney won't. You can't afford to carry any expensive players

In that case would you play Ward or Ramsey with Ramsey game time looking doubtful.

Ramsey, always likely to get attacking points even in a short game. Fulham will have no pressure and want to give the home fans a good end to a bad season

I'll try again with a simpler format:

        Rooney-> Sturridge, Ramsey->Eriksen

        Gives:

        Yaya Nasri Eriksen Sterling
        Suarez Aguero Sturridge

And Mata is first on bench, I guess we will need good bench this week.
Anything I should do different? Money no object for any transfers

        Cheers

Yes you should. You should play Mata and not take the hit to get Eriksen.
