Paddy Power Special – 4/1 for Brazil to Win, 9/1 for Draw, 12/1 for Colombia to Win

As the hosts prepare to return to action in the quarter-finals of Brazil 2014 later this evening, Paddy Power are rolling out a tempting offer for those yet to register an account. With Big Phil Scolari’s side set to face in-form Colombia in the 9pm kick-off, our bookmaker mates are offering odds of 4/1 for Brazil to triumph, 9/1 for a draw or a very enticing 12/1 on Jose Pekerman’s side to emerge triumphant:

Given that the regular odds were initially 5/6, 11/4 and 7/2 respectively, this is clearly another great offer from Paddy. Click here to get involved.

Those who already have an account with Paddy can still take advantage of a Money Back Special on offer. Paddy will refund all losing First Goalscorer, Last Goalscorer, Correct Score & Scorecast singles on the match as a free bet if this World Cup knockout match ends in a penalty shootout – find out more here.

To clarify, the Brazil v Colombia enhanced odds special is limited to a £10 stake, open to new Paddy Power customers only and subject to the terms and conditions specified. New customers can only opt for one of the three offers.

Finally, of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

Just been having a look at the odds myself. 11/10 to qualify or 2/1 to win in the 90. Would probably put on the safer qualifying bet, been stung by the other a couple of times already.

May double it up with Novak winning Wimbledon, comes in @ 3.5/1.

He refereed the game as if he didn't know the rules, if that was his normal standard he wouldn't have been in a WC quarter final. He was under instruction

I think he was under instruction to ensure players weren't suspended for the final more than anything as well as maybe slightly favouring Brazil. I wouldn't say the game was totally fixed.

julio cesar wasn't sent off because luiz was covering. luiz effectively became the goalkeeper in that situation. for standard red cards for a last man professional foul there is still a goalkeeper to beat.
basically unless there is a sub-rule for keepers i'd have sent julio cesar off

bernard is maybe the most like for like. with no wingers of note i wonder if he'll go back to 352, although it will be depressing if he does just to see how inferior the front 3 is to ronaldnho, rivaldo and ronaldo. arguably a bigger hole than messi that neymar is leaving

don't get the criticism either tbh, he's a great manager close to delivering another great result.
they don't really have the players to play much else. they schooled colombia in their own way. wasn't around for 1970 and 82 but i dont remember brazil ever playing great team football, simply having enough individuals who do amazing things to get them places.

Brazil pretty much changed their philosophy after Spain '82.

That team is universally recognised as the best team never to win the World Cup. They were the most beautiful team I have ever seen and I remember crying when Italy knocked them out.

They lost that game due to rank bad defending which came from a lackadaisical attitude - Rossi's 2nd goal was a microcosm of Brazil's football in that world cup.

From then on they decided they needed to adopt a more European way of playing if they were ever to win the world cup again.

No one has ever truly seen a real Samba style Brazil since 1982 which is a shame. That team truly made the game look beautiful.

They are nearly the same price as Germany to get through.
I think Germany should be clearer favourites now though.

He's been getting heaps as they've had easy games that they've been dominating. Now they play Argentina...

They have not really "dominated" anyone in their group stage though. Every game was pretty close, even when they played Korea, if anything I think he has a better chance of getting more Rb's as he will see a lot more attacking action coming his way.

But by their very nature 'recovering balls' implies that the other team has had possession of the ball, and lost it...

Arguably DvB will have to recover MORE balls than in the easier games = more points...

Also he seems to be a "in the right place at the right time" kinda guy considering how many blocks he gets...

We all know how ADM likes to shoot = more points for any blocks...

Look at the highest tallies of RBs so far. They're all in games where their team has been dominating. The CBs get their RBs from mopping up hurried clearances from their opposition.

The highest tallies from jaredmason's spreadsheet and memory are:

8 – Alba vs Aus (nuff said), Mert vs Algeria
6 – DvB vs USA (howard's goal under siege), Marcelo vs Chile, Boateng vs Algeria

                etc

Some interesting stats ahead of the Argentina v Belgium match:

Argentina have won three of their four encounters with Belgium, scoring 10 goals and conceding four.

Argentina have won six of their last 19 World Cup games against European sides at the World Cup.

Its the third time in a row that Argentina have reached the quarter finals of the World Cup. However, the Albiceleste have never gone further than the quarter finals since they reached the final in 1990.

Argentina have been victorious (via penalties or winning AET) in six of their seven World Cup games that have gone to extra-time.

All four of Argentina and Belgium's wins have been by a one goal difference.

Belgium's six goals in this World Cup have all been scored from the 70th minute onwards. Also, four of their six goals have been scored by substitutes.

Belgium and Argentina have had the most shots in this World Cup (83 and 80 respectively). Marc Wilmots' men have also had the most attempts on target (32).

Argentina have averaged 64.3% of possession in this World Cup, the highest ratio of the tournament.

Messi is the player who has completed the most dribbles at this World Cup (24) and created the most chances for his teammates (18).

In the last 16 game against Switzerland, Angel Di Maria attempted 12 shots, the most ever in a World Cup match by an Argentinean player (1966-2014).

Javier Mascherano has won more tackles than any other player at this World Cup (18 out of 22 attempted).

Kevin De Bruyne delivered the final ball for a Belgian shot 10 times against the USA, more than any other player in a game at this World Cup. He was also involved in both Belgian goals, scoring the first and assisting the second.

Your slowing climbing again in Fox I see Innsie. Up to mid 30's now. What's your target..?

I'm thinking of taking a hit or two and maybe saving my WC for the final... Depends if NED get knocked out as I have 4 players.

Yep triple German defence gave me a nice boost! I'll be delighted with a top 50 finish, I think I've had more players played than most people this round so I'll probably drop soon.

I think wildcarding for the semis will be the best tactic as the 3rd v 4th playoff is in the same GW as the final, so technically none of your players will be 'knocked out' yet. Because of that, I don't think there's much point in saving your WC for the final, but it could be a nice little differential to have.

Now that I got my free time I can now respond better to your question Mr. Emperikal and maybe to your Cote d' Iviore team mates.

You see you can't judge that solely based on our scores. Let me give you an inside scoop on what we really have, all of us and I mean ALL of us have the man that one of your members allegedly think we don't have and some of us had a double German defense. I can also confirm that we are not loaded with the players who played yesterday but we are loaded with players who would play today as we thought the players who plays today is the better investment which not only will prove that we are right but to prove that we will definitely win this tie. So watch out, I politely say that we now call the shots in this little tie of ours and when the final whistle of the Argentina-Costa Rica match you can now take your final bow to the FFS WC tournament. That is all.

Just woke up to hear Neymar is out of the world cup.

Absolutely gutted here. Was really looking forward to seeing him faceoff against Messi in the final, if they both got there.

Whatever anyone thinks about Brazil, in my opinion this world cup is worse off without Neymar around.
