Scout Notes – Gameweek 34 – Monday

Harry Kane and Dele Alli both score twice as Tottenham run riot at the Britannia. The north London side rack up their fourth clean sheet in five to close the gap on Leicester at the top of the table.

Kane and Alli at the double

Tottenham Hotspur closed the gap to five points at the summit of the Premier League with a thumping 4-0 win over Stoke City.

Harry Kane punished over 200,000 Fantasy managers that shipped him out across the previous fortnight, bagging his third brace in five outings. The Lilywhites’ talismanic frontman has amassed five more shots on target (18) than any forward in his last six starts and is leading an attack that’s bagged 13 goals in five matches. With some tempting fixtures to follow (WBA, che, SOU, new), many will now be looking to re-acquire Kane for the run-in.

Similarly, Dele Alli had nearly 100,000 managers lamenting their decision to cash in on a midfielder that delivered attacking returns (three goals, four assists) in five of his last six fixtures. The 6.2-priced England international currently ranks joint-third among all midfielders for total score (162) this campaign, underlining his immense value.

Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela grabbed assists, while Christian Eriksen turned provider for two of the visitors’ strikes. The latter’s Fantasy value is well-documented, but Lamela is also worthy of consideration, given that he’s upped his output (one goal and two assists in two) and has fired seven shots inside the box in his last four starts.

Investors in Spurs’ rearguard profited from their fourth clean sheet in five match-ups. Tottenham next host a West Bromwich Albion outfit that posted three blanks in their past quartet of fixtures, so Mauricio Pochettino’s troops will fancy their chances of securing another shut-out.

Potters battered at the Britannia

Stoke City lay claim to a solitary win in six matches following their second successive heavy defeat.

The Potters shipped 10 goals in their last trio of outings and have mustered one clean sheet in 12, negating the appeal of their defensive assets. At the other end of the pitch, Marko Arnautovic (10 goals five assists) harbours some promise, yet Stoke’s mixed schedule (mci, SUN, cry, WHU) and absence of a double Gameweek diverts attention away from the Austria international. Xherdan Shaqiri is an early doubt for the weekend after he was forced off at the break with a hamstring complaint.

Hibbert steps up Toffees recovery

Tony Hibbert clocked 45 minutes for Everton’s U21 outfit as they ran out 1-0 victors over Manchester City.

With Jagielka and Seamus Coleman both likely to sit out the Merseyside derby, there’s a possibility that Hibbert – at a price of just 3.9 in FPL –could receive a call to action at Anfield. Alternatively, Roberto Martinez might opt to reinstate Leighton Baines (if fit) at left-back and swap Bryan Oviedo onto the opposite flank. Nonetheless, given that Everton have home clashes against Bournemouth and Norwich on either side of their double Gameweek 37, Hibbert could be worth monitoring if the Toffees injury worries in defence fail to improve.

Wilshere scores for Gunners reserves

Jack Wilshere continued his recovery from injury by finding the net in a 2-1 reserve loss to West Brom.

Wilshere could be on course for a return to top-flight at some point before the end of the season, then, after Arsene Wenger confirmed he will need “three or four games” at this level before being considered for the first-team squad. Whilst the upcoming clashes against West Brom and Sunderland look likely to come too soon, the Gunners’ final two home matches, against Norwich and Villa in Gameweeks 36 and 38 respectively, could allow Wenger the chance to hand him some minutes in the centre of the park.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    FPL Team of the year.

Who would be in your FPL XI of the year.

Remember this is from a Fantasy perspective so as good as Kante is, he’s a player for a real football best XI of the year.

Here’s some contenders based on the top three players in terms of total pts scores per position. But perhaps a particular game or score for you raises others into consideration.

    Goalkeepers
    Gomes 150!
    Lloris 134
    Schmeichel/Butland 132

    Defenders
    Alderweireld 162!
    Bellerin 143
    Fuchs 134

    Midfielders
    Mahrez 225!
    Ozil 186
    Eriksen/Alli 162

    Forwards
    Vardy 199!
    Kane 199!
    Lukaku 173

Fuchs and Simpson were brought in after the Arsenal defeat, so their contribution in turning around the performance of that defence, has been outstanding.

Butland (had him from GW1. Benched a few of his CSs, but he still served me well)
      Bellerin-Fuchs-Daniels
      Payet-Alli-Mahrez-Siggy
      Costa-Aguero-Kane

Siggy + Costa because I got them as differentials near the start of their purple patches and they did wonders for my OR.

For me these lot are no brainers based on Points, Price and PPG:

      Gomes
      Alderweireld, Fuchs
      Mahrez, Ozil, Alli
      Vardy Kane

leaving a defender, a midfielder and a forward to fill out the remaining places. For these I want to throw in some slightly curveball options based on PPG who have played good minutes but not enough to challenge for the points spots and they are Kompany (5.8 ppg, top defender), Payet (5.7 ppg, 3rd mid) and Aguero (6.1 ppg, top forward).

We will soon be choosing our FFScout Dream Team, and I would like to suggest a minor change to the way it is selected.
Either take a preliminary vote on the formation (3-4-3, 3-5-2, 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-5-1, 5-2-3 or 5-3-2) before we vote on the players to fit this formation,
Or select a full squad of 15 players and then have a further vote to decide which four of these will drop to the bench (leaving a valid formation).
This is not quite the same as voting for slightly more than 11 players and then selecting those with the highest percentages of the vote, because of the following possibilities:
      1. A defender such as Simpson might be a very popular enabler and might get more votes than some of the other defenders, but if we want to bench one or two of our defenders then it is possible that he might be one of the players we decide to bench;
      2. Last season George Boyd was a very popular midfield enabler and gained more votes than the contenders for 4th midfielder, but he probably spent most of the season on our benches in a 3-4-3 formation;
      3. If there is more competition for the position of 4th midfielder than for the position of 4th defender, then our chosen 4th defender might get a higher percentage of the vote than our chosen 4th midfielder, but we might still prefer to start our 4th midfielder in a 3-4-3 rather than our 4th defender in a 4-3-3.

Or based on their total points for my FPL team:
        Gomes

Those boys above have been the best for my team across the season. Keepers have been a nightmare for me this season, hence Myhill. GW1 had Courtois for his red card, transferred in Adrian GW2 for his red card. It's not got a lot better...

My short list, time of season was obviously critical, hence more names than could be in one team at one time, but these players struck me as top value fantasy picks on a regular basis when they were fit this season:

      Gomes
      Butland
      Schmeichel
      Lloris
      Cech

      Alderweireld
      Bellerin
      Fuchs
      Huth
      Dier/Walker
      Daniels/Cook
      Van Dijk
      Koscielny
      Morgan
      Simpson
      Cathcart/Nyom

      Mahrez
      Ozil
Sanchez (by end of season pretty sure this spot will be vindicated)
      Eriksen
      Alli
      Payet
      Wijnaldum
      Arnautovic
      Barkley
      Sigurdsson
      Drinkwater
      Ritchie/King

      Vardy
      Kane
      Lukaku
      Ighalo
      Aguero
      Wilson

Exactly. Easy to say at this point that it was best to keep Alli/Kane, but I think we´ll see green arrows by the end of this week.

Putting this out there for those that think Kun might get a rest.

Asked whether Aguero now belongs in the same bracket as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Pellegrini replied: “If he continues scoring three goals every game, he'd be very near them!

“The most important thing for him is to keep in the same way he's been doing this season and not to have important injuries for a long time.

“If he plays around 29 or 30 games this season, after just one injury which was with the national squad, that's important if he's going to be one of the top players.”

With one goal needed for his ton, Pellegrini used his favourite word to describe the tally: “It's an important amount of goals, and also I think this year he is just one two behind Kane and Vardy so he is fighting to be the top scorer in this year also.

“And the way that he is playing, especially in the last game, I am sure that it will be difficult for the other strikers to keep up with his performances.

“Team achievements are more important but after that it's good to have the top scorer with Kun or maybe the Golden Gloves with Joe Hart.

“I don't know who chooses the best players, what the different reasons might be. In other seasons, maybe people didn't vote for him because of the injuries. But he's demonstrated in every game that he deserves to be in.

“It's important for all players to get awards for their work. But the important thing is what you do as a team and to be as near to the top of the table as we can - the minimum is a Champions League spot for next season."

Don't see a Kun rest anytime soon.

I reckon he's more likely to get subbed around 60 mins if winning and he's scored rather than miss out like Klopp is doing with his best players. I think Pellegrini has said before that Aguero thrives from consistent starts.

guys dont know what to do for GW35:

    Darlow Robles

    Bellerin, Smalling, Sakho, Simpson, Delaney

    Mahrez, Payet, Sanchez, Coutinho, Iwobi

    Aguero, Kane, Lukaku

0itb. was going to take a hit and do Delaney + Lukaku for Vardy + Dier. But obviously with Vardy out for GW35, any other strikers I should get? or any other moves in particular?

I was leading my ML by some margin, but my main rival was close. He blew his WC in January on nothing, even spent the next couple of weeks cleaning up the bad choices he made in the WC.

No matter, I thought. I'm a good player. I'm keeping my WC for GW33, just like all the other smart players. I joked with my other friend (who's also in the ML) - "he's gonna pay for using his WC so soon".

Then came GW33. Here we go, I thought. Time to outsmart my main rival. I spent so much time on my WC, reading a lot here on ffs. In the end, I went for

    DDG - Robles
    Bellerin - Gabriel - Sakho - Delaney - Simpson
    Sanchez - Coutinho - KDB - Payet - Lanzini
    Aguero - Lukaku - Martial

My GW33 went pretty well. Delaney and Robles made sure of that. Coutinho and Sakho didn't play, while KDB was subbed.

Then City progressed to the semis. Oh well. Then Liverpool did the same. Oh hell.

Last night, I was hoping Alli and Alderweireld would blank - or at least not score as much. Then Alli gets 15 points and Toby gets 6. In two weeks, my rival has gotten 43 points from two players. Who needs DGW-ers?

I went to bed last night feeling I'd tried to be too clever, and forgotten about the basics of FPL. This 34 DGW had been a grail, shining in the distance, for so long. I ended up getting rid of all the Tottenham players just to maximize on DGW-ers. And what happens? Sakho is rested, Coutinho is rested, Martial is rested, Lanzini doesn't start, Fosu-Mensah (transferred in before 34) doesn't start, Mitrovic doesn't start (but still gets 4 points).

My best hope for a good GW34 result is Sanchez getting a sizeable amount of points tomorrow. Right now it looks like I'll need three hits before GW35.

Anybody else feels like they've both outplayed themselves and been unlucky at the same time?

pure bad luck and DGW over excitement.

The novelty of the Bench Boost distracted many but even if you remove the BB and had last year's system...there's a good likelihood of managers fielding 11 DGW players + 4 SGW players (could easily be 3 Spurs) on the bench just to capitalize on the 34, 35 and 37.

We played the game the way it's meant to be played. The rest we can't control.

Personally, I had 3 Spurs players + Mahrez and 11 DGWers. I decided to play my Bench Boost since I wasn't comfortable with those high ownership fellas on the bench with good fixtures. I got lucky but I still took unnecessary hits to get those 11 DGW clowns.

Gives me 12 to choose from. And idt Smalling is worth 6.4 for DGW37 against nor and whu.

    B) Ward,Lukau -> PvA,Pelle for -4?
PvA has the double and Pelle faces Villa.

Glad I waited for 2nd DGW to use WC/BB.. No doubt about it....its saved my season...
Lesson learned.... Don't always follow the group take heed of that gut feeling.

Was so close to doing this as already had 7 DGW players in GW32.

But I just reckoned that rotation and nothing to play for in GW37 would wreak even more havoc with line-ups. And it probably will.

Could, although can it possibly be much worse than this one?
I didnt like losing so many inform players so early to fit 15 DGW in, easier to lose those player in 37...

Need some advice for GW 35

Coutinho & Martial out for (exactly 15.9 in the bank)

    A)Costa Lanzini
    B)Sturridge Townsend

Any other players you have in mind? I already have Kane Alli Aguero Payet Ozil Iwobi. Leading my Cash ML by around 45 points need a safe bet who gives me decent points till 38. No Pelle not looking for a one week punt.

Wouldn't drop either, the fact they both got a rest makes them more likely to play and others rested IMO

Martial doesn't have a GW 35 but I still do have 11 player if I don't transfer anyone. But Doesnt Coutinho look like a rotation risk in 35? And with Moreno I feel more unsafe.

In general terms, GW34 has been a good FPL week so far. Discuss.

(Big hitters & captaincy candidates performing, predictable clean sheets, wide spread of points scorers so there's something for everyone)

GW34 has been good, but DGW34 less so (but not over yet). All depends how many of your A team you kept.

I've had a pretty shocking dgw so far considering I wildcarded last week & playing bb this week. Had 42 pt gap to close on ml leader which doesn't look likely now as I'm on 69 pts so far.... but it's actually been quite fun in a wierd way, frustrating, but fun.

    A) YAY to the following plan
    B) NAY to the following plan

    This week, KDB > Alli
    Next week, Simpson > Cresswell
    For gw37, Welbeck > Costa
Leaves with with this GW37 team:

    Mignolet / Darlow
    Bellerin / Cresswell / Sakho / Fosu-Mensah / Van Aanholt
    Sanchez / Payet / Milner / Alli / Mahrez
    Kun / Kane / Costa

    Morning all,

As buying back Kane was always my plan for GW 35 I have a small dilemma what option would be most reasonable

    A. Lukaku --> Kane 1ft
    B. Martial, Payet --> Kane, Alli (-4) Payet coming back for Coutinho in 36
    C. Martial, Coutinho - -> Kane, Alli (-4)

      B. I play with 11
      C. I play with 10

Aguero 4/7 to score 1 tonight
Aguero 13/5 to score 2 or more
    Aguero 17/2 to score a hat-trick

Lowest odds of the season I would imagine for a player to score a hat-trick?

      Asked this earlier.

Has to be a serious contender at this point. I guess most who have held it will wait until GW37 though (myself included)

Payet looks to be the stand out choice for GW37 but even then they are away to Utd in one of those games which I can see him blanking in. Could be a real time to roll the dice this week and if it pays off you can just play it safe and Cap Payet and hope he doesnt do much. Or....if it goes terribly give the dice another mad roll with someone like Lanzini haha

    2. Gatsby

      Serious consideration.

Think ML rivals will go Payet in 37. I might take the risk, depending on form going into the gw.
