The Stock Check – Gameweek 20 – Wednesday

Dele Alli scores twice for the third successive Gameweek as Spurs extinguish Chelsea’s 13-match winning streak. Christian Eriksen supplies both assists as Eden Hazard’s form on the road continues to cause concern.

On the Rise

Dele Alli
It’s seven goals in the last four Gameweeks for the Spurs midfielder after scoring twice in the 2-0 win over Chelsea – his third successive brace.

Serving up points in six of his last eight outings, Alli has soared to third in the Fantasy Premier League midfield standings and has now scored 10 goals this term – matching his tally for the 2015/16 campaign.

Number one for transfers in this Gameweek with a massive 166,000+ new owners, Spurs’ upcoming schedule suggests that Alli could keep on delivering as the bandwagon picks up pace – the north London side host West Brom and Middlesbrough and travel to Sunderland in the next four.

Christian Eriksen
While Alli claimed top billing at the Lane, Eriksen kept his tally ticking over by supplying the assists for both the starlet’s goals.

The Dane’s 11-point haul – a fifth double-figure return in eight appearances – took him to fifth amongst FPL midfielders, highlighting his points potential ahead of those aforementioned fixtures.

Indeed, with the 10.9-priced Harry Kane failing to get amongst the goals, the prospect of doubling up on Eriksen (8.6) and Alli (8.4) may prove more appealing for those looking to invest in Mauricio Pochettino’s attack.

The Spurs Defence
With their first-choice defensive regulars all fit and free from suspension, Spurs chalked up an eighth clean sheet of the season last night – second only to Chelsea’s 11.

Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to roll out a 3-4-2-1 set-up bodes well for the prospects of Kyle Walker and Danny Rose, who were both utilised as wing-backs against the Blues.

Indeed, Rose has now produced attacking or defensive returns in each of his last five appearances – an average of 5.1 points per match is second only to Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso (5.5) amongst defenders. He did, however, pick up an eigth yellow card and is now just two cautions from a two-match ban.

The return of Toby Alderweireld in recent matches also looks key. Spurs have chalked up six shutouts in 12 matches with the Belgian on board, compared to two clean sheets in eight without him.

With the schedule now in their favour, investment in Pochettino’s main men at both ends of the pitch looks likely.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
The Belgian’s struggles on the road continued last night – he’s scored just twice away from Stamford Bridge this season.

More worryingly for his 34.7% owners, Hazard’s blank means he’s found the net only twice in his previous eight league outings – a far cry from the performances that served up seven goals and three assists in the first 11 Gameweeks.

Should he fail to pick up the points away to Leicester City next time out, Hazard – who also faces Arsenal and Liverpool in the next four Gameweeks – could see the exodus pick up pace as we look for better value in the premium bracket.

Harry Kane
With Alli and Eriksen bringing in the points again, the Spurs striker left his 13% ownership disappointed by failing to score at home for the third successive fixture.

Although Kane’s 16-point haul away to Watford last time out reminded us of his goal-getting talents, at a price of 10.9, there’s no doubt his appeal is lessened by the more budget-friendly alternatives in the Spurs midfield.

Given that the battle for premium-priced forwards has intensified recently, Kane needs to step up his consistency in order to prevent further sales as we look to Sergio Aguero, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Diego Costa up front.

Willian
A run of four straight starts came to an end last night as Pedro returned from suspension to oust the Brazilian from Antonio Conte’s first XI.

Willian’s brace against Stoke City in the previous Gameweek had suggested he would retain a starting berth at White Hart Lane, offering us a viable mid-price alternative to Hazard.

Yet a 26-minute cameo appearance off the bench confirmed that his acquisition clearly still comes with a major risk, with Conte still somewhat uncertain over that role on the right of the Chelsea front three.

Sorry Bemba I didn't put that question very clearly.

Cook is first choice CB and Francis always plays when fit (think I heard them mention on sky that he is the only player to have played every game Bournemouth have played in the PL). Both of these guys have been playing cb but Ake was filling in cb for Cook while he was out injured.
When Cook came back Francis went to right fb and Smith moved into midfield as they had a bit of an injury crises there.

For the game when injuries had cleared up in midfield Smith was dropped to the bench and Francis stayed rb leaving Ake and Cook as the cb's.

So back to my original question: Do you think Ake will keep Smith out of the team once all are fit?

I'll answer this if I may. I think Francis is nailed on, just depends on whether that's at CB or RB. he started last season at RB but got badly exposed so moved into the centre where he performed well. I'd think Ake will continue to play at centre back, majority of their clean sheets have come with Ake starting. The good thing about him is that he can also play full back if needed. Cook is the one that may make way ahead of Francis imo.

Interesting, I'd have said Cook and Francis are nailed so it is a straight shootout between Smith and Ake but maybe you are onto something. Hadn't thought of Cook making way.

Yeah I think you might be right Ogie but harsh on Smith if that is the case as he has been one or their best players this season.

I have not analysed the goals from the Arsenal game but they suffered a lot aerially for them, could that mean 6'4" Francis goes back cb with Cook? I'm playing devils advocate here tbh as I think he probably has a 60%+ chance of holding his place as long as they don't concede aerially again soon. There is definitely a threat he could drop out though with Smith sitting on the bench.

Yeah I think the same tbh, all it would take is a poor performance though and Smith would be back in as it will be hard for Howe to not give him game time too.
There might even be a bit of rotation but I can't see Howe messing about with the cb's unless he has reason too.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually tempted with a punt on Giroud.

On form, on pens, good team, good price, great fixtures (swa, BUR, WAT)

    What's not to like?

I think he's the current front runner as my Benteke replacement (if he is ruled out)

Hazard has 4 goals and 53 points in the last 10 matches

Kane has 8 goals and 64 points in last 10 matches.

make sure you have the same big hitters (i mean the ones who deliver) and pick 2-3 cheeky differentials... season is still long anough... DGW and chips can provide a huge boost...

patience is the key still, but with a 10- rounds till the end its time for a capitain punts as well

Keep your wc and blitz them with double gw and chip planning.

Don't not bring in players because your rivals have them, just bring in who you think will score the most.

If you are looking at a couple of differentials that you think will score equally well bring in the one with the lowest ownership.

      Don't take captain gambles

Yeah I think it's going to be all about getting the captaincy right, a few differentials and chip planning.

I'm thinking of captaining the big hitter my rival doesn't have more often. At the moment that's Ibra verses his Kane.

Also need to try to make my team as different as possible to his to give myself the chance of making up the ground.

How come Rose is already on 8 YCs? It's almost like he is a premium version of Holebas in that aspect!

I believe it's because he's been booked that many times, I may be wrong though.

I've sold Firmino for Alli. My plan is to get Coutinho in for Sigurdsson soon but need to raise around 0.3 to do it. Holebas to a 4.3 def or Snodgrass out (after BOU) for a 5.4/5.5 mid? any thoughts?

Holebas to Nyom or Snodgrass to Stanislas.

I reckon I should keep Chelsea assets till Hull ?
Than probably Alonso to Rose and Hazard to Coutinho/Dele

I am keeping, maybe I will switch Hazard for Costa after Hull and bring in one or two Spurs midfielders...

Alonso is still great value I think, depends on the price you bought him for of course...

I also have Costa so I think one Chelsea is enough for 2 GWs after Hull. Maybe I will also end up with double Spurs mid, I have Eriksen now

Kane seems to be holding the ball up, then Eriksen and Alli run past him!
Good for the Spurs team, but not ideal for FPL points.

Kane has 8 goals in his last 10 matches.
3 goals in his last 3.
I wouldn't say he's not a good FPL pick. He could easily reach the 20 goal mark.

no wouldn't agree with that. Eriksen not really moving from deep and getting in the box. Kane still very much the focal point up top, Alli (as we have known for over a year now) has great movement and often goes beyond the main striker. But have a look at how many goals he assisted Kane for last season - difference this year is he was playing centrally, recently he's had more of a free role - very difficult to pick up.

    A) Alonso + Baines
    B) Luiz + Alderweireld

No other defence from any teams involved.

    Cheers.

Why not baines and alderweireld? Baines on penalty duty and Tottenham look solid

Need a bit of help. 0FT. Anything you'd do here for a hit? What miracle would take care of the Anichebe problem I've gotten myself into?

    Heaton
    Alonso Baines Pieters
    Sanchez Hazard Lallana Phillips
    Kun Ibra Anichebe

Jaku Capoue McAuley Amat. 0.4 ITB.

    Never take hits
    Never get angry
    I tried but I can't be like that 🙁
