The Big Numbers – Gameweek 25

First up this morning, we look to the Opta data and cast an eye back to some of the standout stats over Gameweek 25 matches.

Taking the upcoming Gameweek 26 and 28 schedules into consideration, we check out some midfield candidates from West Ham, Everton and West Brom, while assessing Sadio Mane’s season after his return sparks Liverpool back into form and kicks off a huge midweek bandwagon.

Elsewhere, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexis Sanchez serve a timely reminder of their talents ahead of upcoming blanks for Manchester United and Arsenal, and we also look into Diego Costa’s recent drop in form ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Swansea City.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Buy Hazard or someone who has no blank in 28? Without hits including Hazard as one of the transfers I can field 10 players in gw 28.

How about you ask again this time next week when we should have a better idea who will blank in GW28 after this weekends FA Cup Fixtures ? Pointless second guessing who blanks now.

Nothing else to post about on here if we're all waiting for FA cup games, speculation + planning is always good.

But, as it stands I'd get Hazard for the next two.

I did Sanchez to Mane on Sunday night to catch the price movements. This was before I knew Liv-Lei could be postponed though. I am still confident it is unlikely.

    WILDCARD QUESTION:

First four teams below have definitely got a DGW and the last 4 will most probably have one. Most of our teams are full of these players (or will be) anyway and I don’t think a WC would be needed really. Are we just saving the WC for the sake of it or am I missing something?

By the time DGW comes there will be loads of new players that you will want in your team...injuries and team form will dictate your team, for example i will probably want Hazard for DGW because he is nailed, on pens etc, but an injurie to Willian would mean that i can be pretty sure that Pedro will play both games in DGW and would make him a great option.

    5. greghammer95

Well for me I want 15 DGW players so I can use bench boost. Will be difficult to do this without having a WC.

I've also got rid of these players at the moment because they're blanking.

      1. MANGE TOUT RODNEY

Do you not feel that one of the lessons learned from last year was that having 15 DGW players proved ineffective as it meant getting rid of some excellent single GW players (Spurs I think it was particularly?) who then outscored the supposed better DGW picks.

I’m thinking this year of keeping 2-3 Single GW players (big hitters) for my BB

        1. Qubit
          • 14 Years

Yep, 15 usually ended up being too disruptive to your team to fix afterwards. I think i had 11/12 last year which is plenty. To some degree it will depend on how the fixtures fall.

I've never understood this. As a hypothetical, would you rather have [HULL] defender away at Manchester City and Chelsea in a single gameweek, or the Chelsea defender who's only game is at home to Hull?

Obsession with DGW more harm than it's worth

People are getting way too carried away with the 3 fixtures in GW28. Keep calm. There is bound to be an upset this weekend. Huddersfield are 3rd in the Championship, top of the form table with 5 wins in 5, playing at home vs City. City will be having half an eye on the CL.

City-Stoke might well be going ahead in GW28 which will make a complete mockery of those making all sorts of weird early transfers to accommodate for GW28.

It's definitely a wait and see job for me. Anything could happen and I expect at least another game to be in that gameweek. Still, good planning to have 6-8 players already. If that City game is on I don't actually have any players and its the same with a few of the games.

Valid point but is it not a good distraction for them? Getting far in the FA Cup can only be a good thing for their promotion push.

With City their clear priority as it has been for a few years is Champions league.

Do you have any FT's? If so then take a 4 point hit maybe and do Sanchez to Haz (I prefer over Mane as a coutinho owner) & Jesus to Kane (If you like Kane, I personally don't want him near my team).

I'd say Jesus is the guy to get rid of rather than Sanchez.

      1. Visionaries
        • 7 Years

I don't have a FT. Yeah Jesus is absolutely the guy to get rid of but I'm just short of Kane and don't see many other good forward options.
May do Amat (5th def) to Maguire..

I've had Rondon for a number of weeks and he's only got me one assist but for the next two he's a really good option. I'm keeping the faith anyways, if you fancy a punt you could go that way then in the next couple of weeks upgrade elsewhere. For me there's not many striking options I want at the moment. Kaku and Ibra, possibly Costa.

Whilst there are lots of interesting stats in this article, the one that interests me the most is the Matt Phillips stats.

December 6th: “We’re all made differently, and thank god we are,” explained Pulis. “Different people have different strengths and weaknesses. It is accepted that lack of confidence is a weakness of his ”

For a player that thrives on confidence I think we have seen a serious regression of confidence in recent weeks which worries me as an owner hoping he can help cover the blanks in GW26 and GW28.

Don't get why people are panicking with Phillips. He's 5.something for a very good reason. For his price and the fact that he is playing in a Pulis team, he has punched well above his weights FPL wise this season.

      1. greghammer95
        • 14 Years

        This.

His Plum fixtures are the next two which is why you bring budget options like Phillips in really. Hoping he can bring home the bacon. I'm concerned about rotation but over the next two fixtures there's no-one at that price I'd rather have.

This is correct, however the key statement here is HAS punched. We're only interested in whether he'll continue to return points, there is some doubt over that. Even though id be swapping one wk28 player for another im tempted to get rid for snoddy, but we'll see.

Just done Jesus to Carrol - Probably should have waited but decided to bite the bullet.

I was playing 3-4-3 with Jesus / Lukaku / Costa up front.

Thinking in future gwk's to go back to 3-5-2 with maybe sterling or sane in midfield. Put a bit more money into my midfield and defense maybe.

Or bring back in Aguero for Lukaku down the line.

Best beat the blank bench kings

Who are the best cheap players that can be happily benched but will be needed in GWK 26 and 28

A key factor is the drop in output from the likes of Stanislas (who can't start) and Phillips (who is lacking confidence). Both could do with replacing but who can step up?

Only interested in Jaku, Maguire and Robertson tbh.

Grosicki might be too expensive already to punt on him.

        Is Markovic really nailed on?

Niasse almost as expensive as Andy Carroll / Llorente so theee are better options

        Etc

      GK: Jakupovic. Without a doubt..

      Defense:

      Funes Mori/Holgate, Mawson/Fernandez, Robertson

      Midfield:

      Snoddy, Phillips, Josh King.

      Attack: Rondon/Llorente

I think you surely have to stick with Phillips if you have him? His stats still compare favourably with Morrison over the last 4 GWs.

Snoddy (and Antonio if funds permit) seem good players to invest in, given their post GW28 fixtures are decent. I prefer Snoddy myself. I think he is about to step up to the plate.

Think Leroy Fer, freed up by Carroll and Cork holding, could be a good punt at 4.8 and has proven in the past to have goals in him. Brought him in myself. Also have Phillips, McAuley, Foster, Coleman, Lukaku and will add Siggy, Robertson and a West Ham mid by GW28 to give me 9.

I've gone for Jakupovic and Ryan Fraser for GW26 and 28 and Ashley Barnes and Callum Chambers for GW26.

All 4 have nice enough fixtures and all of them can sit on the bench outside of these weeks.

Do West Brom players count? If so Phillips and Brunt too.

I noticed a post for Rondon as a suggestion...Had this guy for weeks and he's been such a let down. I hope to god he turns it on as it sucks having a differential that does nothing at all, us Rondon owners need rewarding for his string of 2s and 1 pointers.

Is AOA chip worth saving for Double gameweek or does it not really matter?

I am thinking to use for GW26 as it would save me a free transfer to be able to field a full team. I only have 2 defenders.

I need to shift sanchez our (-4) and don't want to also have to do another defensive transfer for -8...

TC and BB are best for the doubles. AOA is best used when you have to - ie have strong fixtures for all 8 attacking players or can only field two defenders due to injury/blanks.

Also during a DGWK defenders can actually do really well.

GWK 26 looks an ideal time to use it for you.

I'm 100 points behind my mini league leader and we both have all our chips left but he has a slightly better team.
He is actually Top 300 Overall and have done very good this season (mixed in with tons of luck).
How do i approach this, is there any hope? If i can close the gap with 40-80 points i'm happy about that as i'm 5th in my league and 2nd or 3rd place is acceptable.

Compared to overall strategies, what are some things i should consider or think about when making transfers and making sure i can do as much as possible to climb my mini league?

I'd ignore him and focus on those in 2-4...those are the fellas you want to leapfrog. Assess who they may captain and match it...then use your captaincy on a player that will score well that they don't own.

Once you overtake those other three then you can focus more on number one.

Thanks alot Jonty, good points. It's time to take some chances i guess! I'm actually 150 points behind the leader when i look at it again but i would be very happy with a 2nd place. Everyone top 10 in my league have Sanchez, Brunt/McAuley, Alonso/Chelsea def and either Coleman/Baines. Perhaps i should get Walker. Most of them will probably go for Liverpool mids in the nearby future, i might take a bet on Hazard.

AOA is generally useless. Use it when you have only two fit defenders or as a punt (GW38 also suggested previously). Certainly wouldn't use it at DGW over triple captain or Bench Boost

I wouldn't say it's useless, I've already used it once and was potentially interested in it this week as well. It's just not very exciting.

It's mostly used as a chip to get you out of a hole rather than something you look forward to using

        Alli to Firmino or Mane?

If i get mane will need to downgrade robles or heaton so I can upgrade defensive fodder for BB or just get firmino

Wouldn't sell Alli, esp until cup fixtures played. Otherwise personally prefer a non-28-blanker to mane/firmino (or hazard), but depends on rest of squad.
