The Gameweek 34 Team News

Zlatan Ibrahimovic appears destined for a spell on the sidelines, while Andy Carroll has been ruled out of West Ham’s home clash with Everton. Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen could return to face former club Swansea City, but Joel Matip, Lucas Leiva and Ragnar Klavan are all injury concerns ahead of Liverpool’s home encounter with Crystal Palace.

The headline team news undoubtedly surrounds Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who suffered a knee injury during last night’s 2-1 win over Anderlecht in the UEFA Europa League.

The striker had been the top attraction in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) transfer market ahead of United’s double Gameweek fixtures at Burnley and Manchester City, with more than 82,000 managers swooping early for the Swede.

But post-match, United boss Jose Mourinho was far from hopeful regarding the injury, or the one suffered by Marcos Rojo, who was also forced off with a knee problem. While there is no confirmation of a Mourinho press conference, we would still expect some further information on both injuries from the United camp later today ahead of Sunday’s Turf Moor trip.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe will make a late call on Dan Gosling, who has missed the last three matches due to a calf complaint. Howe revealed the midfielder hasn’t done a lot of training, so Lewis Cook may earn a rare start in place of Jack Wilshere, who will miss the rest of the season following a hairline fracture to his leg suffered in the 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Middlesbrough head coach Steve Agnew revealed the knee injury suffered by Fabio in Monday night’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal isn’t as bad as first feared. The defender will be assessed this morning to see if he is available for tomorrow’s trip to Bournemouth.

Rudy Gestede did suffer a kick to his heel against the Gunners, but he trained well on Thursday, and should for available for selection. Victor Valdes (rib) and Grant Leadbitter (hamstring) are both ruled out.

Jack Cork (ankle) and Wayne Routledge (hernia) will both miss Swansea City’s home clash against Stoke City. Head coach Paul Clement is hopeful Cork could return for the Gameweek 35 trip to Old Trafford, however.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes is hopeful Joe Allen (hamstring) and Glenn Whelan (illness) will be available for the trip to south Wales. Both players came through training yesterday, and look set to be available. Jonathan Walters has yet to train this week as the Potters continue to manage his knee problem. The Republic of Ireland international was due to train today though, and may be able to feature. Hughes has also hinted at a first-team return for the fit-again Jack Butland between the posts.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic will be without Andy Carroll for the home encounter against Everton, with the forward sidelined due to a knock. Sam Byram and Mark Noble are also unavailable due to suspension, but there is some good news, with Winston Reid back following a groin problem, although Bilic has yet to decide if he will start against the Toffees. Diafra Sakho was due to return to training yesterday, with the forward’s fitness levels to be assessed to see whether he can feature in the matchday squad.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has no fresh injury concerns for the trip to the London Stadium, although on-loan forward Enner Valencia is ineligible to face his parent club.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp revealed Joel Matip, Lucas Leiva (both knocks) and Ragnar Klavan (knee) are all injury concerns ahead of Sunday’s home meeting with Crystal Palace. The trio had all failed to train prior to Thursday, although Matip is hopeful he’ll be able to overcome a minor muscle issue to face the Eagles.

Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has been boosted by the return to training of James Tomkins and Loic Remy. Tomkins’ return looks particularly well-timed given on-loan defender Mamadou Sakho is ineligible to face his parent club.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Valencia, Origi -> Bailly, Rashford worth -4?

Logic is that Valencia won't play the Burnley game which has the best chance of a CS, and Rashford has a better chance of getting points this week than Origi. Also nice to have in place going forward for the 37 double. I need to free up cash with the defensive move to do the Rashford move.

i know everyone doesn't trust valencia to play in both games but with rojo injured too maybe he might. bailly is more nailed on but i think if you already have valencia then keep him

origin out for rashford makes sense although i'm going to punt on negredo as i am wildcarding in 2 weeks

There's no way he'll play against Burnley imo. He played 120 mins last night and had cramp at the end. Darmian/Young can play there

Only Alonso who I plan to keep for the rest of the season. Other option is a midfield downgrade (Sanchez, Eriksen, Alli, Siggy) to Palace mid which i'm not keen on.

Rock & a hard place there sir, go with your gut! Valencia will play in the derby I have no doubt about that, so is Bailly going to make up those 4 points over the 2 games?

Surely recent developments have improved the chances of Valencia playing?

With Rojo out Blind will play at CB. That leaves Valencia, Shaw, and Darmian competing for 2 full back spots. Is Shaw, with questionable fitness, more likely to play after 120 mins than Valencia?

I also dont see Origi to Rashford for a hit being worth it - Origi will start at home to Palace, esp after praise last time out. Rashford is more doubtful in that respect - he will surely play against City, but I wonder if Rooney and Martial might get the nod against Burnley.

Origi has no DGW, Rashford has 2 DGW's.
Palace have been much better defensively so I wouldn't be holding on to Origi

          1) Look at who Rashford is playing in comparison to Origi
          2) Look at the amount of goals Liverpool score
          3) Sakho is missing for Palace this week - he has been instrumental in their defensive transformation
          4) Rashford is very unlikely to start both of the games this GW. I also doubt he will start all of the games until the end of the season after this GW. Personally, I think United will drop out of the top 4 race in the league with their fixtures, and concentrate fully on the Europa.

          1. SWANCK
            • 7 Years

Origi blanked against STK & WBA - granted he does play better at home but I just think Rashford is the better option.

Anyhow, I personally think Rashford will be wanting as much game time as possible whilst Ibra is out, he's young and he wants that spotlight - last night was a great demonstration of that.
Granted he may be rested somewhat here and there but Origi has only played a full 90mins ONCE in the previous 16 games.

If we beat City & Burnley, and Liverpool characteristically struggle against the lower teams then it's wide open again for UTD, we may concentrate more on Europa yes, but with the size of our squad we are designed to play multiple competitions.

Looking at playing AOA this week and rolling FT so I have 2 for GW35 before wildcarding in 36.

    Valdes (Jaku)

Alonso - Valencia (Bertrand - Robertson - Holgate)

    Alli - Eriksen - Zaha - Siggy - King

    Kane (c) - Aguero - Lukaku

1 FT, nothing in the bank.

I agree with this. Somehow people want to have it both ways: They need to score to avoid relegation, so I'll bring in Negredo and captain him, but I think they'll still get clean sheets so I'll bring in Gibson.

If only it were that easy. They would have been doing it all season.

    Still tinkering on WC. Thoughts?

    Pickford (Jaku)
    Gibson Bailly Dawson (Holgate Stephens)
    Alli Zaha Sanchez King HAZARD
    Lukaku Kane NEGREDO

Gives me a horrible benching headache but allows me to get in Hazard from now.

    GW 35: Negredo > Gabbi
GW 36: Downgrade Zaha > Southampton Mid
Could also take a hit if needed.

Leaves me with 3 SGW for 37. Thoughts?
