Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Pre-Season

Debut goals for Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette and Everton’s Wayne Rooney help their new clubs to pre-season wins, while the proposed move of Gylfi Sigurdsson to Goodison Park gathers pace.

Here’s the notes from yesterday’s action.

Sydney FC 0 Arsenal 2

Record signing Alexandre Lacazette marked his Arsenal debut with a goal as the Gunners strolled to victory in Sydney.

The French striker coolly converted Alex Iwobi’s pass after coming on for Danny Welbeck, who had earlier had a penalty saved.

Skipper Per Mertesacker opened the scoring with an early strike in a match dominated by Arsenal, with teenager Reiss Nelson catching the eye at right wing-back in his first senior start for the club.

Significantly, Arsene Wenger stuck with the 3-4-2-1 formation he adopted towards the end of last season, providing further confirmation that this system will be retained.

It meant that another summer recruit, Sead Kolasinac, made his debut on the left of the three-man defence.

The Bosnian international made a number of defensive interceptions and surging forward runs, underlining his suitability to replace Nacho Monreal in that role.

Indeed, Kolasinac’s versatility means that we cannot be certain on Wenger’s plans. While he boasts a stronger end product than Nacho Monreal at wing-back, his strength may yet see him push for a berth in the back three with the Spaniard retained out wide.

It was Lacazette who grabbed the headlines, doing enough in his brief time on the pitch to please the 26.4% of Fantasy managers who have splashed out 10.5 on the striker, with Arsenal’s generous opening schedule (at home at least) helping to justify the outlay.

Handing Lacazeete a central support berth behind fellow sub Olivier Giroud, Wenger was certainly happy with his new man’s debut goal.

“It is important for him to get that (first goal) off his shoulders because you expect to score if you are a striker.”

Arsenal have taken a 25-man squad on their tour of Australia and China, but Alexis Sanchez is not in it. He and Shkodran Mustafi have been given extra time off after the Confederations Cup, with the Chilean still consistently linked with a move away from north London.

Jack Wilshere, the injured Gabriel, Kieran Gibbs, Mathieu Debuchy, Carl Jenkinson and Wojciech Szczesny have all also been left at home.

Arsenal XI:Cech (Martinez 46); Bielik (Nketiah 68), Mertesacker (Naitland-Miles 68), Kolasinac (Monreal 68); Coquelin (Xhaka 68), Willock (Elneny 68); Nelson (Oxlade-Chamberlain 68), Ozil (Iwobi 68), Walcott (Giroud 68), Bramall (Malen 68); Welbeck (Lacazette 68).

Gor Mahia FC 1 Everton 2

Wayne Rooney’s first start of his second spell at Everton was lit up by a superb long-range strike in Africa.

The forward’s 7.5 price tag in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has persuaded 17.5% of managers to put him in their early team squads, with his potential for mid-price value seemingly trumping the Toffees’ brutal start to the campaign. Everton faces daunting trips to Chelsea and both Manchester sides, as well as a visit from Spurs, before September is done.

Ademola Lookman, playing out wide as part of a 4-3-2-1 formation, set up Rooney with some smart work on the left and the former Manchester United man, employed as a lone striker, lashed home from outside the area.

Manager Ronald Koeman handed new signing Davy Klaasen his debut, the Dutch international forming a midfield trio with James McCarthy and Morgan Schneiderlin, while Aaron Lennon started on the opposite flank to Lookman.

But that midfield looks almost certain to change again, with reports in the local media suggesting it is only a matter of time before Everton sign Swansea City talisman Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Icelander did not travel with the club as they set off on their US tour, and Swans coach Paul Clement seems resigned to losing their star man.

“We had that situation with Jack Cork. In the summer there was no thought of moving Jack on but it got to a point when another club came in with a really good offer. That might end up being the case with Gylfi. We don’t know yet.”

Koeman changed the entire team for the second half, with new signing Michael Keane coming into the heart of the defence alongside Mo Besic, as Kieran Dowell netted the winner from a Tom Davies pass.

Notably, Jonjoe Kenny claimed the right-back berth for the Toffees in the first-hallf, with Matt Pennington replacing him at the break. Mason Holgate was not included the squad following his England U21 exertions.

New arrivals Jordan Pickford and Sandro Ramirez have also been given extended time off and did not travel to Tanzania, while Ross Barkley – who is injured with a groin problem – was also left at home as a move away from Goodison continues to be on the cards.

Everton XI First half: Stekelenburg; Kenny, Williams, Jagielka, Connolly; Schneiderlin, McCarthy, Klaassen; Lennon, Lookman; Rooney.

Everton XI Second half:Hewelt; Pennington, Baines, Keane, Besic; Barry, Gana, Davies; Dowell, Mirallas; Calvert-Lewin.

    Re-post due to mistake.
17.5 for two midfielders (already have Alli)
    A) Coutinho + Sane
    B) De Bruyne + Ramsey + 0.5itb
    C) other suggestions?

Just wanted to know your opinion about this team.

Foster - Elliot (or Myhill if you prefer)
    Milner - Lindelof - Trippier - Cedric - Tomkins
    Alli - Pogba - Willian - Ramsey - Redmond
    Lukaku - Lacazette - Fletcher

I could always downgrade a 7.0 mid to a 4.5 to upgrade either Fletcher, to get Kane or upgrade the midfield. Care to RMT?

      Gk- Okay
Def- Pretty good, but I frown at Milner.
      Mid- Alrite.
      Attack- Nice

Overall, pretty good. Nothing too much to complain there.

Thanks! I'm not too sure either, Liverpool's defence mostly disappoints so it's mostly for the penalties. Could also go for Chelsea or City with this set-up.

Money is too spread out for my liking. Not a bad team otherwise if you use the bench to rotate

Yeah, It's pretty spread out. At the beginning of the season there almost always some article about how defenders are really good value so I figured I tried something out since I always struggle with finding the right 6.5 striker / 4th midfielder.

It's alright but you are always going to have a fair bit of money sat on your bench. Maybe take your own advice lol.

    First RMT of the seaon!

    Begovic - Foster
    Bellerin - Trippier - Cedric - Simpson - Lowton
Pogba - De Bruyne - Zaha - Knockhart - RLC
    Kane - Lukaku - Rodriguez

I'd take out Hector for Monreal or Kola. Not a fan of Jrod, like the KDB pick and not too sure about Knockhart and Lowton while Zaha might not be the best option at 7.0.

    Lindolf - Cedric - Dawson
    Ali - Willan - Zaha - Mane - Mikky

Is Foster being picked because of the tried and tested "Pulis defender" attraction?

Also, why do we think that WBA will start getting Pulis like clean sheets after they failed to do so last season?

I also don't understand the popularity of Rambo, good player yes but aside from 13/14 hasn't really been good in FPL

      Foster is 4.5
Rambo seemed to do well at the end of last season and is 7.0

Decent considering how much you have spent up from, but that back four is not idea to play every game, but RLC or Chalobah (in a 3-4-3) could come to the rescue there, if nailed.

I like it - the 4-3-3 seems to be making a comeback! Big fan of Willian there, offers great value.

      Few things:
      - As an Arsenal fan, I'm waiting til after the beginning to draft Laca / Sanchez in, we tend to start poorly
      - No Kane = need a big sofa. Maybe Kun -> Kane and then Alli -> Sane?
      - Tadic I also had, but I'm a bit worried (especially after Prokopta's analysis) about Pellegrino's attacking verve; I kind of think having a defender may be enough now, but can see why you see value there (my bargain klaxon went off when I saw the 6.5 too!)

Willian was first name in my team considering Hazard situation and price
Kane + Sane is also an option but
Of course this is just a 1st draft so will have to wait to see whats the situation with South attacking prospects, what will happen with Sanchez(if he is transfered Im sure I will go with Lacazette ) etc etc

Crabtree won the whole thing with no 'pool players all season long, so my guess is no

nah, I might start with double City (Sane) and pocket the change - we'll see, but fixtures and CL qualifier not ideal.

Double Saints seems a bit over the top, Maybe Bertrand to Trippier.
Sanchez I don't feel justifies his price. Maybe get one of em Totenham mids.

I've decided my FPL season will be a celebration of Huddersfield's Premier League status

Always have 3 Huddersfield players. One of these will be captain every week.
Ex Huddersfield players (Arfield, Norwood) also get in the squad, as a recognition of their contributions over the years.

Always bench any of my other players playing against Huddersfield. Man Utd away? You'll be third on the bench Mr Lukaku, try not to get any splinters.

I hope you all enjoy competing for second place overall.

Smith, Ince and Mounie for starters.

Mooy will be the heartbeat of the side, but the one thing that let him down last season was his set piece delivery. And I think Lowe will be on penalties if he keeps his place ahead of Malone.

    Good afternoon all.

First post for a while, not really looking into FPL too much until August as I will lose too much of my life changing my squad 587 times before GW1 anyway!

Now, this post is to anyone who had a Mondogoal account. I know this game was promoted on the FFS site, so there may well be quite a few around. Saramek and GoldenDonkey are names I seem to remember playing. As this game involved some large prizes, especially the games on the last gameweek of the Premier League season, there was quite a bit of money involved.

They posted on their website at the end of 2016 that they were no longer playing money games. Understandably, this sent alarm bells off left, right and centre, trying to withdraw funds. Apparently there was an email sent out early December 2016 stating you needed to withdraw all funds before 31st December 2016 otherwise all money in any playing accounts was donated to a gambling charity, Gamcare. So a three week window basically, that seems pretty unheard of to me, not to mention scandalous.

The above is a load of tosh on so many levels. Firstly, that email never arrived in my inbox (or junk file). Secondly, they did not respond to any emails or any withdrawal attempts. Now, after contacting them directly (parent company based in Isle of Man, which probably have different rules that I’ll need to investigate before commenting further), they have said they are a liquidated company. (I’ve never heard of any liquidated companies donating any money to charity either by the way).

Therefore, this is just a sorrowful warning to any members of the community that played the game loyally for 3 years (was formed in 2014), that any funds they had in there (mine was in the hundreds as I did alright), you won’t be getting back. I would also like this to be pointed out to the powers that be in FFS, to be doubly careful where promoting any new games.

I can’t say what I really want to, because I don’t want to say anything that may get me in trouble. But I thought this was a worthwhile post and I know Mondogoal had lots and lots of members playing regularly, many of whom are from FFS.

If anyone in the legal field peruses these pages, would appreciate your feedback.

Apologies my first post back for the new season ahead is a depressing one.

If they were a gambling company surely the must register with the british gambling authority who should guarantee all deposits but that would have been in the small print somewhere, I am pretty sure of this

Licenced by the Isle of Man Financial Services Authority apparently. Whether that is different, going to look into for sure. Just wanted to make others aware.

All on line gambling companies are registered off shore but they still have to adhere to the gambling guidelines of the country they operating in. Below is a link and you would be advised to contact the british gambling commission

We are required by our licence to inform customers about what happens to funds which we hold on account for you the event of insolvency http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/consumers/protection_of_customer_funds.aspx.

We hold customer funds in a bank account separate from company funds. These funds are not protected in the event of insolvency. This meets the Gambling Commission’s requirements for the segregation of customer funds at the level: basic segregation.

      Think this should be top-topic'ed.

It's always been my view that because this site has such an international readership, and indeed membership, as well as having many posters being minors, that they should not promote any gambling site.

FPL doesn't give out cash prizes because of different international gaming laws, so with FFS being so close to FPL these days I feel they should follow suit.

Hows my first draft looking guys?

    Foster / Elliott
    Milner - Trippier - Cedric / Mee - Prodl
    Eriksen - Redmond - Pogba - Loftus-Cheek / T.Carroll
    Lukaku - Lacazette - Jesus

Feels a little light in midfield tbh so maybe look into this area...
