Technical Area – The Man City Midfield

Through the first two months of the season, no side has scored more frequently than Manchester City.

In their second season under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage, City have averaged more than three goals per match to open this campaign and already look to be mounting the strongest title challenge on show.

With Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus as options in attack, we are blessed with two obvious routes to investment. However, reading Pep Guardiola’s intentions with the pair remains a test, made all the more difficult by the news of Aguero’s return to light training following his rib injury.

Just as Gabriel Jesus seemed cemented in the central attacking role, suddenly Aguero’s return seems more imminent, casting further doubts on the likely minutes of the pair over forthcoming Gameweeks.

So, instead, our attentions are drawn to City’s midfield in an effort to achieve coverage of this potent attacking unit while we wait for the striker situation to resolve.

In this article, we’ll be running the rule over three mid-priced Manchester City midfield options – David Silva, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling – alongside the more expensive Kevin De Bruyne, in an effort to ascertain where best to seek value from this side over the coming Gameweeks.

best front 3 on WC? Want to keep Kane. Like the look of Vardy, would go for Batshuayi if nailed.. toss up between jesus and lukaku?

Look at Aguero's injury update - the ideal line is Kane, Lukaku, Jesus - but your overall team may be better off with just one of Jesus/Lukaku

Bats is nailed. Chelsea simply cannot play without him right now. He is the clubs only target man available. Morata is out for a while. If you are lucky Bats is solid for rest of october.
Also this is the first chance the boy has really got to establish his starting credentials

    RMWCT please:
    Fabianski / Elliot
    Ward / Luiz / Stones / Maguire / Davies
    Sterling / Silva / Salah / Richarlison / Carroll
    Kane / Lukaku / Calvert-lewin
I'm thinking 4-4-2 and sometimes 5-3-2. I have so many doubts: ditch Lukaku? buy Hazard? upgrade 3rd striker and downgrade somewhere else?

ok on WC and trying to crack my defense
GK's i'm happy with but trying to decide on 1 or 2 big hitters

    a) azpil or davies as my 1 premium and more balanced defence made up of dunk ward simpson and mbemba(can become 4.5m if i go davies)

    or

    b) stones and davies and the rest being dunk mbemba and 4.0m bench fodder

    1. Kellz86
      • 6 Years

Mbemba not a sure starter, so unless you don't mind starting Dunk every week, then B.

I think a bit more flexibility in your defense is key. Some solid value 5.0 defenders with good fixtures to consider like Cresswell/Cedric. Coupled with one of Azpilicueta/Davies and a good 4.5 rotation (Mee, Naughton, Fernandez, Morgan) you have a more balanced side. Obviously without your whole team I can't say where you could squeeze some funds.

    2FT worth going on Firmino + Choupo-Moting ---> Jesus + Carroll?

    Fabianski, Elliot
    Alonso, Davies, Jones, Cedric, Mee
    Alli, Salah, Mkhi, CHOUPO, Loftus-Cheek
    Kane, FIRMINO, Abraham

Means playing one of Mee, Carroll, RLC, Abraham each week which doesn't seem to be a problem

I think keeping the Chop is better (fixtures turn nice after w8) - How set are you on keeping Mkhi? Utd fixtures turning rough. Could find value going Jesus/Silva/Sterling duo combo if you can afford it.

A wildcard is like a chance for our teams to start it like a new season, and look at the 7 game weeks as a Pre Season. If we were to see it as a Pre Season -
    1) KDB in form, has the fixtures, nailed on
    2) Sanchez, Hazard back - Have form, can gamble on 1
    3) Morata, Kun injured so makes Jesus, probably Alonso great picks

    And what not.

Are we ignoring KDB, other strike force at our own peril?

I was just waiting for the word "peril" to be somewhere in this post.......

I wouldn't say hazards in form. And for 12M, I would want to see more from Sanchez too.

    2. Teror
      • 9 Years
      6 years, 6 months ago

I've had KdB from the start and I will be getting rid this week. Whenever I've watched Citeh play he has played far too deep and is useless as a fantasy asset. Yes, he scored a goal last time but that's not enough to convince me. Sterling and Silva are much, much better options.

  10. Teror
    • 9 Years

Chile's failure to qualify for the world cup is in my view a good thing: Sanchez won't have any particular motivation to play out of his skin to get himself in form this summer so we'll have less headaches about trying to work him into our teams and it's probably a bad sign for Arsenal. I can't stand Arsenal.

    1. Pasqualinho
      • 14 Years
      6 years, 6 months ago

No world cup is just a small setback. I suspect he'll simply try to engineer a move to another country.

      1. Teror
        • 9 Years
        6 years, 6 months ago

Sanchez doesn't even have to do anything to engineer a move. Every club already knows how good he is. Man City and PSG want him and that's not going to change if he scores 5 goals or 30 goals, especially as a free transfer, and he's not good enough for Real or Barcelona.

He is good enough for Barca, perhaps Real. Both are on the decline- Sanchez is far better atm than Dembele, and obviously Deulofeu. He would play regularly in a Real team too - Bale has been in poor form for a while - the pressure of the fans and injuries have taken their toll. I think, based on his improvement and form at Arsenal, that he would start on the right at Barca, perhaps on the right at Real, and certainly on the left at Bayern.

Sanchez to City is certainly not a certain thing.

    Elliot - fab

    Cedric - maguire - stones - ward - mbemba

Haz - Erik- silva - richarlison- Rlc

    Kane - Lukaku - Hemed

Can I have some advice.. want Hemed and RLC on my WC but both are currently out. This would mean probably no playing subs for the next couple games. Would you swap one or both of them, say hemed to Calvert-Lewin / RLC to Stephens or stick. Hemed for me is the best 5.0 striker so keeping him would save a transfer down the line.

I'd stick for the sake of one week.

I'm on WC and will have a full non playing bench this week (apart from my keeper) and I'm not worried. RLC will be back next week so it's not that big of a risk.

B - since it's the WC why not take that shot on Hazard and Sterling is certainly being talked up quite a bit right now (for better or for worse)

But that being said, given current form, it's hard to pass up A with Silva being suspended in Spain's last match so he's nailed and Eriksen facing Bournemouth w8.

This is one of those that just comes down to your gut feelings for the final call.

      Hope it helps

Curious ppl's thoughts on these WC teams in terms of balance (set up for wk 8):

    Pope
    Cresswell, Otamendi, Azpilicueta, Davies
    Hazard, Silva, Ritchie
    Joselu, Kane, Lukaku

    Bench: Elliot, Chop, Hune, Carroll

    OR

    Pope
    Cresswell, Cedric, Davies, Fernandez
    Hazard, Ritchie, Richarlson
    Jesus, Kane, Lukaku

    Elliot, Chop, Carroll, Wimmer

Note* Fernandez could be any 4.5 defender as can Pope alt with Fabianski.

    Cheers!

As an Everton fan, I would avoid without a doubt. We are scared- heads are gone. Baines isn't the player he was (he hasn't been the same since the ankle injury) and Sig hasn't a fixed position yet. It might be worth it when Koeman is sacked and Unsworth takes temporary charge.

Who do you think will be included in their attack? Rooney, DCL, Sigurdsson, Niasse, Klaasen , Mirallas all have change. Siggy most nailed.

I'm a worried owner. I think it's more the flight and jet lag that puts players out of condition

    Foster
    Luiz Davies Ward Holding Dunk
    Sterling Hazard
    Vardy Jesus Kane(C)

    Elliot, Ricarlison, Carroll, RLC

I'm trying a 5-2-3 for the first time as the defensive fixtures look good.

Yes. I am trying to justify to myself why I should take a hit and bring Hazard in. Ramsey 2 points, Firmino 2 points. Hazard 12 (1g + 1a + CS + bps?) D) Abraham 2 or 7. def worth of -4
