The ScoutCast – Episode 235 – Swingers

Careering out of the international break at speed, the ScoutCast returns in anticipation of a turning point in our seasons.

We’ve been chattering for several weeks on the much anticipated “fixture swing”, and now we’re all set to put ourselves at its mercy.

What does it mean for our Fantasy line-ups?

In truth, with multiple transfers and Wildcards at our disposal, Jonty, Andy, Luke and myself started this latest episode still seeking our own answers. Over almost 90 minutes and with your community questions providing the steer, we do our best to reach some conclusions.

We weigh up Manchester United exit plans, Liverpool’s blunted attack and Jamie Vardy’s recuperation techniques, before previewing Gameweek 8 in the usual hap-hazard style.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Next to none, as none of my expected droppers have dropped yet, and I've sold a bunch of players I had some value tied up in. Didn't WC til last Tuesday though so missed a bunch of rises. Morata injury threw my initial plan out the window.

Mine has only risen .3 so far but that includes sacrificing .5 from ditching mkhi and kaku. Also had a few players about to fall so I'm happy I pressed the button. Only regret is not deciding that until Sunday as missed a few Saturday risers which would've improved it no end.

Most of the risers are players I'm looking at keeping anyway. I've had some 0.1 risers aswell but I wont gain anything since I'll get rid of most of them. I didn't really WC just for TV anyway but I had hoped for more.

The strikeforce is limiting to you to one premium in a season where there are a minimum of three nailed on class premium forwards (Kane, Kaku, Morata) plus Jesus and Agüero.

I just think the balance is wrong there. Also, Joselu can't hit a barn door.

Everyone is captaining Kane this week and if you suggest someone else for the armband you get laughed at on here.

But Kane is sixth for expected home goals among forwards, sandwiched in between budget pair Shinji Okazaki (2.04) and Tammy Abraham (1.68).

Okazaki, Vardy and Aguero all have higher expected home goals in the same number of home matches as Kane.

So are we all ignoring the xG data and saying it meaningless? Because based on that, we should not be captaining Kane this week.

He is basically Tammy Abraham in a Spurs shirt when he plays at Wembley.

Can you think of any reason that Kane scores less at home? Is it because teams shut up shop? Or are there other factors at play?

Lots of reasons. Bigger pitch. Visiting teams up their game because it's Wembley. Also he seems to be getting more headed chances and he is not as clinical with his head.

Stats are only part of the story though aren't they? Remember ahead of City v Pool when you cited stats suggesting a 0-0 draw.

Bournemouth have consistently been absolutely shite at the back and Kane is one of the hottest forwards in world football right now.

The simple fact is he is the outstanding choice this week and xG isn't going to persuade me otherwise.

Kane was garbage at home as well as away in September. He's in form now. Are you ignoring his goals at home vs Dortmund and in the international games?

Also, Bournemouth are trash away from home.

I'm just taking a close look at the xG data. It's very clear: if he plays at home, he is decidedly average for expected goals.

          1. Cok3y5murf
            • 7 Years
            6 years, 6 months ago

When looking at xG data, it's not wise to look at it for the entire season. Form is sometimes bad and then becomes very good. In that scenario, only the xG for the most recent games matter. And for the most recent games, we don't have the xG for his CL games and international games.

This is the case with Kane. Even with Lukaku last season, for example. He went on a long run of blanks where everyone sold him and then started delivering again and everyone got him back. At that point, would you have taken his xG during his run of blanks into consideration? No. Same thing.

    8. goriuanx
      • 13 Years

So what you're really saying is that you don't want to captain Kane but you want others to join you so you're not alone when your rank takes a hit?

Nope. I'm just wondering if everyone is taking into account his expected goals at Wembley. Because if you were, you wouldn't captain him. If xG is such a key metric, then don't ignore it ... is my point.

    9. Lecky Legs FC
      • 8 Years

You make a good point he hasn't scored at (H) at Wembley so far he takes comfort scoring away from home mostly and his record shows that I'd say Vardy and Jesus were your other captain picks this GW for me.

Got Jesus's double rise. Looks like time to shuffle him on for Vardy on my WC

Starting to have the same chance as Pool winning the league if they lose at the weekend.

Of course, I wouldn't even bother with point gaps etc for now, play your game and worry about that in the Run in to the end of the season.

3-5 weeks and keep flexibility of getting the players who I want after the initial weeks.
      For eg. Lukaku in GW12

My wildcard is nearing completion! While we wait for today's pressers, I would appreciate any feedback on this:

    Elliot | Joel Pereira
    Davies | Azpilicueta | Otamendi | Ward | Tuanzebe
    Sterling | Sané | Hazard | Richarlison | Stephens
    Vardy | Rashford | Kane

I have opted for 2x3.9 as this leaves me with 0.0 ITB. I don't see the point in downgrading someone to get Mbemba instead of Tuanzebe seeing as he was dropped from the squad last time.

I feel you have to have a structure which allows two premium forwards.

I am absolutely shite at FPL, though, so you're best off ignoring me.

Did I just see Aguero chest down a ball from a cross (and score) with "broken ribs"?

Really worried he just didn't fancy the trip for International duty 😮

I raised that point last week. He chickened out and didn’t want to be a part of the Argie squad that potentially didn’t qualify for the WC.

Was what the community's consensus? I don't want to scrabble to fir him in my WC team just for a hunch. But if I was a betting man, I'd say he'll get a run out for last 15-20 mins this gw

No. He might have got a bit bruised by the accident but it was no way broken ribs if he’s back training in under two weeks.

Should i downgrade Jesus to get Hazard into my team??

    Fabianski
    Otamendi - Monreal - Davies
    Richarlson - Mkhi - D.Silva - Coutinho
    Vardy - Kane - Jesus

    Bench: Elliot, Mbemba, McArthur, Rangel

No I would keep front 3 as it is. Mkhitaryian to Fabregas perhaps an option depending how long Kante out

Quick question. I can just about scrape together enough to get Luiz for those great fixtures over Maguire, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it across the board.

Would mean Coutinho, Choupo, Hunemeier instead of Salah, Richarlison, Mbemba.

    Is that worth it?

Which one of following 3 defenders would you rather have in your side on WC

    A Luiz
    B Otamendi
    C Monreal

Rest of defence is Cedric Davies Ward Fernandez with Pope Elliot in goal
