The ScoutCast – Episode 235 – Swingers

Careering out of the international break at speed, the ScoutCast returns in anticipation of a turning point in our seasons.

We’ve been chattering for several weeks on the much anticipated “fixture swing”, and now we’re all set to put ourselves at its mercy.

What does it mean for our Fantasy line-ups?

In truth, with multiple transfers and Wildcards at our disposal, Jonty, Andy, Luke and myself started this latest episode still seeking our own answers. Over almost 90 minutes and with your community questions providing the steer, we do our best to reach some conclusions.

We weigh up Manchester United exit plans, Liverpool’s blunted attack and Jamie Vardy’s recuperation techniques, before previewing Gameweek 8 in the usual hap-hazard style.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I think I have cracked the wildmonkey pt 4:

    Popeski

    Ward, Cedric, Bavies, Member, Simpson

    Sterling, RLC, Coutinho, Eriksen, Fellaini,

    Jesus, Kane and Vardy.

What could possibly go wrong? 😕

Not been explosive so far so happy to sit that one out.

Hard to have Lukaku ahead of Kane, Jesus and Vardy based on forthcoming fixtures.

I agree.. only the huddersfield game is frightening for none owners.. everyone says kaku is near essential.. but I need to see him perform against better teams.. so far MU have had walkover fixtures.. (except for sou who.they only managed to score one goal against and maybe Everton - but they have been really shaky!)

Agreed. He's been more of a flat track bully so far without generating explosive returns. Can see JM shutting up shop in these games too which lessens his appeal.

      what could go wrong?
Bavies losing his place to Rose
Fellaini suffers injury setback and in 2 Gws time loses his place to Pogba
Jesus gets playing time in UCL and bench role in EPL
Sterling time curtailed to shoehorn Kun/Sane
And I dont know who is Member

I was initially frustrated playing WC early but looking this week situation it would have hardly helped much

        Bavies: highly unlikely.
Fellaini: Pogba is out for longer than 2 weeks
Jesus will be Morata in week 9
With Kun out, Sterling is unlikely to be Peprot fodder.

I think your defence is the wrong way up.

      Here is the goalie rotation:

      BRI/NEW: EVE 79 CPL 222 SOU 27 BOU 193 STK 178 WAT 250 CPL 213 LIV -138 LEI 236 EVE 88 BUR 219 WAT 241 - 8 light blues

      OR:
      BUR/NEW: WHM 60 CPL 222 bur15 BOU 193 SWA 188 WAT 250 wha -47 lei -185 LEI 236 STK 131 bri -219 whm 100 - 5 light blues
      OR:
      SWA/NEW: HUD 27 CPL 222 BUR 15 BOU 193 bur-188 WAT 250 wha -47 stk -159 LEI 236 EVE 88 ars -304 whm 100 - 4 light blues

Secondly, you have Bavies, not Otamendi. Great for GW 11, but that's a long way off. Cedric's fixtures die after 4. As Burnley rotate with Chelsea and WBA, it seems perverse to double up.

Not interested in rot in D, Doos. I'm a form over fixtures type of guy.

Ward will score points home and away as already proven.
        Bavies speaks for himself.
Cedric in for next 4 weeks.
Simpson - can see LEI improving now with better fix.

Bavies is under threat, and is the mainstay of your defence. Burnley are not so good away. Risky. Anyway, very good luck with it.

Can't see Bavies being outed by Rose on current form. TOT keep cs against anyone so happy to keep him.

Well, I hope it works. I have sold Bavies to buy Silva:

              WC, GW 8:

              Ryan
              Otamendi, Monreal, Duffy
              Eriksen, Coutinho, Silva, Sterling(vc)
              Kane(c), Vardy, Rashford

              Elliot; Stephens, Lascelles, Mbemba … 0, 0.2 ITB, TV: 102.1, SV: 101.0

By the way, Popeski have very good rot and they have the highest save count so far.

Perversly, they seem to do well in away games for some reason.

I think people have missed a real steal here with Popeski.

                Hmmm...adventurous as always. 😉
Need to see more save points from the gks and I looked at the Members area stats today and Elliot fetches hardly any. He was very low on the RMT tool.
Two CTY milfs is too high risk for me.
Rasher is an interesting one. Can't see much return in next 4 though.

                Good luck to you 😉

Is there any advantage of Otamendi over Stones? I don't see a right lot of difference but Otamendi is the favoured one but is £0.1 more expensive.

Whenever Kompany is back, Stones is more likely to go on bench.
That is the only reason but again you never know with Pep, City spend 50m on Stones so things could change.

I can't stretch to Ota on current draft which is a teeny bit frustrating as ML leader has Stones so would like the differential. Having said that, Ota is a card magnet.

I think the strongest thing about your team is you've managed to eradicate a great deal of uncertainty. I wouldn't undermine that now by messing about with a third city player, unless it was KdB. Save those transfers for trying to wring points out of the fourth MF and budget defenders and strikers

Stats are just a decontextualised quantitative simplification of something much more complexed. From watching Leicester's games I have faith in Vardy to score sufficient points, I also think you'll see those stats 'improve' in coming weeks with the fixture turn.

              2. Stats don't tell the whole story. They are a starting point but it is lazy to use them as a short cut. Investigate the Vardy outlier in a fuller context
              3. There's umpteen variables missing from these most basic of stats. They are missing context

Most notably, the subjective nature of your affinity with the selection.

He's 27th ranked for shots. That's a clear indicator of alarm bells.

Sometimes it just doesn't work the way these basic stats say it should. Another good example of this was Brady earlier in the season. I like to combine some data, stats and a bit of qualitative work to make projections. There's plenty of good examples of players who appear to defy the stats but on closer inspection the stats are just not telling the full story

Stats don't simplify. The football related action is simple but the hundreds of dependent variables are the complex part.

              stats don't simplify?

stats help us to use quant data to make decisions, that data is got from using some kind of coding to simplify incredibly complexed qualitative events. the complexity is inherent to the football

I think we'll see Vardy emerge as a key player at 8.6 in coming weeks.

                    Wow. Big claims.

He's priced the same as a Liverpool striker, Liverpool who scored 78 goals last season. He's had less shots than Mahrez, a midfielder. This isn't 2015/16, Leicester are nothing.

Leicester have scored the most goals outside of the top 8
Leicester have played united, chelsea, liverpool and arsenal in their first 7 games
Vardy sits just a handful of points away from players like salah, silva and morata despite having lost 3 and drawn 2 in the last 5
Leicester play WBA, Swansea, EVE, Stoke, MCity, WHA

Your use of firmino as a yardstick is a failure as we both know firmino is not an out and out striker. He will operate for large parts of the season in midfield and is priced accordingly. And once again, Vardy is outscoring him despite unfavourible fixtures. A fairer comparison would be any one of the out and out strikers. When compared to those strikers which retail at 10.5-12.5 Vardy is a favourible option.

You can continue to neglect to engage with the fact that Leicester have played 4 of the stingiest defences in the opening 7 games and despite this Vardy has still emerged as 5th highest scoring (behind £10.3-£12.8). That's your look out.

    Where to improve my team?

    DDG Elliot
    Davies, Kola, Hegazi, Francis, BSmith
    Eriksen, Ayew, Ritchie, Gross, Carroll
    Kane, Lukaku, Firmino

    At the moment I think about Firmino/Ayew -> Jesus/Choupo

Any other suggestions maybe for a Ayew/Hegazi move?
