Scout Notes

International Scout Notes – Sunday

There’s injury news both good and bad involving Liverpool midfielders, while a key defensive asset for Spurs looks set to be fit for Saturday’s north London derby.

On the pitch, meanwhile, Switzerland and Croatia book their places at Russia 2018.

Here are the notes from Sunday’s international programme.

Mixed news for key trio

Liverpool’s attacking options received a boost when Sadio Mane returned fit and firing for both club and country last week.

But the midfielder has now been released from international duty, with his national federation citing concerns over the recurrence of ‘an old injury’ following his star turn in Senegal’s 2-0 win over South Africa on Friday.

That is understood to refer to the hamstring problem that had kept him out of action for a month before he produced a double-digit performance on his return for Liverpool in their Gameweek 11 win at West Ham.

Mane provided two assists in the 4-1 victory over the Hammers and followed that up with another as Senegal sealed their place at Russia 2018.

Owned by 7.6% of Fantasy Premier League managers, the winger’s release by Senegal was confirmed in a statement from the country’s FA.

“After consultations between the medical staff of the national team of Senegal and Liverpool, it was decided by mutual agreement to make him available to his club to continue treatment until full recovery.”

Mane will now be assessed by Liverpool’s medical staff on his return to the club ahead of the Gameweek 12 visit from Southampton on Saturday.

It’s not all doom and gloom for Jurgen Klopp, however.

Long-term absentee Adam Lallana is reportedly close to a return, while Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho has now declared himself fully recovered from a groin issue that had kept him out of Liverpool’s last three matches in all competitions.

He was unused on the bench in Brazil’s friendly win over Japan on Friday and hopes to feature in his country’s match at Wembley tomorrow.

“Unfortunately, I could not play for Liverpool in the past three games because of injury. Now I feel 100 percent fit, I have recovered, and I am in a good shape to be available for the game against England.”

Injuries and the protracted saga of a possible move to Barcelona have dampened Fantasy interest in Coutinho this season – he is currently owned by just 4.4% of managers.

But he is now making all the right noises, stating that he is happy and ‘playing in one of the biggest leagues in the world’, and could become a differential prospect for Liverpool in an excellent upcoming schedule.

A Gameweek 13 visit from Chelsea and a pre-Christmas trip to Arsenal aside, the Reds’ fixtures are set fair until the middle of January.

Meanwhile, Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen (8.7%) has reportedly recovered from an ankle injury that kept him out of Belgium’s 3-3 draw with Mexico on Friday.

The centre-half could now feature in his country’s friendly with Japan tomorrow ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s north London derby.

Elsewhere…

Switzerland booked their place at Russia 2018 with a 1-0 aggregate win over Northern Ireland.

Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka and Stoke City midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri started last night’s second leg goalless draw, with the latter withdrawn after 80 minutes.

West Brom defender Jonny Evans saw a last-minute header cleared off the line that would have taken the tie into extra time.

He was joined in the side by club-mate’s Gareth McAuley and Chris Brunt. All three, together with Southampton midfielder Steven Davis, played the full match for the Ulstermen.

Croatia’s play-off passage to next year’s World Cup finals was rather less fraught.

They completed a 4-1 aggregate victory over Greece with a 0-0 draw away last night in which Liverpool centre-half Dejan Lovren played the full 90 minutes for the second time over the international break.

Everton winger Nikola Vlasic was an unused substitute last night, having seen seven minutes of action in the first leg.

Leicester City’s Daniel Amartey played the full 90 minutes for Ghana in their 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw at home to Egypt.

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny and Stoke City’s Ramadan Sobhi started and finished for the visitors.

Huddersfield Town striker Steve Mounie started and played 56 minutes for Benin in a 1-1 draw with Tanzania.

    Hi all!

Could you help me out here?
    1FT
    0.4 ITB

    Ederson, Elliot
    Daniels, Luiz, Duffy, Mee, Fernadez
    Sterling, Salah, Richarlison, RLC, TC
    Kun, Morata, Kane

Obviously Luiz needs to go but don't know for who? Jones, Spurs defender?
Cause on the long run I think I want to change Ederson to DDG and I don't know if I want to double up on ManU defence.

    Cheers

    So I'm thinking:

    B.Davies, T.Carroll & Jesus > Daniels, Salah & Calvert-Lewin for -4 (plus 1.5 in the bank)

Play 5 in Midfield and 2 up top, already have Sterling & Silva. Good moves? Will eventually do Silva > Sane.

Morning folks. Any thoughts on my latest WC team? I think I'm pretty set with this. My only issue would be to upgrade Abraham to Morata and downgrade Hazard to cheap mid (if I go down to 4.5m I could upgrade GK/defence too).

    Thoughts?

    Elliot, Speroni
    Jones, Daniels, Mee, Duffy, Moreno
    Hazard, Salah, Sterling, Richarlson, RLC
    Kane, Lukaku, Abraham

Many people on here not a fan of 3 big hitters up top but in fairness I think my team still decent in other areas despite obvious budget restraints..

    DDG
    Davies Jones ward
    Salah sané richarlison RLC
    Kane kun morata

    Elliot Tcarroll Naughton mbemba

With .7 itb I can still juggle some people about.

    What do you think?

Team seems fine, don't think I'd have Davies or Mbemba though.

I think the only difference is people without a 3rd big hitter would have someone like Eriksen/Alli where Richarlison is and a little bit left over to spread about the team, but if the big hitters deliver it doesn't matter where the money is spread.

Ah, well I suppose I meant by Gameweek. Just wondering if the sheer number of games either means that:

        1. Teams tighten up as they close games out after going ahead.

        2. Teams get tired from playing so many games and games become more open.

I guess the right question is - should we expect more or less clean sheets?

It's the same per match as the season average.

Hi all, desperately need some help! Currently ranked 1.4m but hoping to make some serious ground over X-mas meaning my next few transfers will be pivotal; so, thoughts on the below team and proposed moves?

    Foster (Elliot)
    Daniels Cresswell Mee (Simpson (Naughton))
    Salah Sterling Silva C-Moting
    Kane Lukaku Vardy

    A) Vardy > Abraham & Cresswell > Alonso (-4)
    B) Vardy > Abraham & Elliot > DDG (-4)
    C) Vardy > Abraham, Cresswell > Alonso & Elliot > DDG (-8)
    D) Elliot > Speroni & Cresswell > Jones (-4)

    Thanks!

none of these moves justify a hit and your team looks good for this gw imo.

      Who's your 5th mid?

None of those moves look worth doing. You are obviously on a tight budget. Compromises need to be made somewhere. Foster is the GK you need to change not Elliot. Alonso rather than Azpi seems a bit puzzling but could be a differential. Vardy > Abraham is uninspiring. Either take a chance on someone like Josh King or downgrade to DCL or Niasse, or even all the way to Quaner and spend the money on your defence.

None of those moves are going to change your season. Sometimes the best policy is to wait and see. Cresswell is a useless pick but might come good in a crossing heavy Moyes team. Similarly with the Leicester players under Puel. You don't have the info yet. I'd just do something like Foster > Pope this week or save the FT and plan for a mini-wildcard with a -4 later when you know more.

    Elliot
    Alonso walker jones daniels moreno
    Salah silva
    Kun kane rooney
    1 ft
    2.4 itb

Alonso + rooney to morata and alder is the best move possible?
Will buy courtois or christensen later after chelsea vs liverpool match
Any better suggestion else than spending on midfield?
    I play 523

Is sterling > salah worth a hit? I have the exact funds and may not be able to afford it next week...

A or C both good picks... Zaha hopefully will emerge as a genuine big hitter between now & Christmas. He has been threatening it for a long time

Best use of 2 transfers? (0.3 in bank)

Was thinking either Hazard/Vardy>Sane/Morata or Jesus/Maguire>Morata/Jones.

    Elliot
    Duffy, Ward, Maguire,
    Hazard, Salah, Richarl, Gross
    Kane, Jesus, Vardy
    Fab, RLC, Mariappa, Otamendi

I dont know what to do at all this week, any suggestions appreciated!

    Foster (Elliott)
Alonso - Ward - Lowe (Kolasinac, Hunemeir)
Salah - Sterling - Moting - Gross (RLC)
    Kane - Morata - Lacazette

    1xft
    0.6itb

Considering Laca + Kola (Bye Aresnal) to Aguero + 5.1 max defender, either for -4 now or split this week and next..

Zaha or Ramsey for 4th midfielder? On a WC.

Actually fancy Ramsey. The lad is outstatting Sanchez in a lot of areas and has done really well last 3 games in terms of being an FPL asset v how Arsenal as a side have done

I was thinking him too but Zaha OOP and good fixtures is very tempting.

Ramsey also has a box-to-box role for us and is looking like he's creating or getting on the end of things. Tbf I think either is a great option at this point, as you say Zaha is OOP and could return for you during the upcoming run for CPL

    How does this look?

Jesus, Cresswell & Vardy > Lukaku, Jones & Abraham (-4)?

Would do Luk > Morata in GW 13.

I would rather get in Morata this week, saves you a transfer.

I'm struggling with a decision of what to do with 2FTs and 1.1 mill in the bank.
Should I get rid of Davies and Jesus? But who for?

    Elliot Krul
    Davies Stones Ward Duffy Mbemba
    Salah Silva Richarlison Choupo Loftus-Cheek
    Kane Morata Jesus

    Any suggestions!?
