The Technical Area – Assessing De Gea

Minimising investment in goalkeepers has long been a popular adage among seasoned Fantasy managers. Year after year, we find ourselves searching for budget offerings who offer the sought-after combination of clean sheet and save-point potential.

The wider meta, however, often runs contrary to this strategy – with premium goalkeepers such as Thibaut Courtois, Hugo Lloris and David de Gea consistently ranking among the most popular players in Fantasy Premier League in terms of ownership.

    Just seen this kun news.

Can't imagine he starts at weekend now.

Jesus may have a reprieve in my team.....

    Anyone else think this??

See my dilemma below. I think I may sit tight, if Kun doesn't start this weekend then could be a lock for Europe next week.

At this stage last season, my TV was around 103.5m, and my rank was around 1.7m

Right now, my TV is 101.3m, and my rank is 347k

    Points > Team Value

Is that really the only factor in the difference? I’m sure there are others that have had the opposite experience.

Well lots of people are quite impatient with their transfers and chase the bandwagons to gain team value and therefore forget that points are the only thing that actually matters in the end

But we’ve not even played a third of the season yet.

What if the extra 1.0m means you end up with the extra points in the end when it really matters because of the superior squad you can build?

It’s too early to make conclusions...

I based the whole first half of last season on gaining team value, and I did awful for that first half, and amazing on the second half when I calmed down with my transfers.

Sure, you could argue I did better because I had a better team, but I think points should be prioritised over team value

20 points saved in hits or +2.0 mill on your TV?

Today I would take the 2.0 mill

Obviously 🙂 - but the extra money today can easily claw back points tomorrow. Great that everyone plays the game differently and at the end of the day it is for each player to make their choice and get judged by their final OR

The 2.0 extra in TV probably means you'll end up doing Hazard over Sane, or something like that 🙂

                Points over pounds. Always.

No accounting for bad judgement 😉 - more likely that you can get Sterling over Brady 🙂

Or, in your case, Richarlison and Mee instead of Fabregas and Bellerin 🙂

                    Hmmm.

What ever works - Fabs and Bellers haven’t risen - Richar has risen though by .4 to give points and price rises for a potential -4 that would be good business ? 😉 😉

I think you've missed my point. My point is that extra TV doesn't inherently help you, it takes good judgment, too. So chasing TV is a dangerous game.

The example I provided for your current side (I clicked your link) was to point out that for 2.0 mil less you could have had Richarlison and Mee instead of Fab and Bellerin...and you'd be much better off. That 2.0, not well spent, doesn't do much for you.

                      2. Hotdogs for Tea
                        • 8 Years
                        6 years, 5 months ago

I am not putting my self forward as some one who has chased TV, just interested in the debate - but if I sold Bellers and Fabs for Richar and Mee for a -4 I could spend the extra cash a get a serious midfielder upgrade or DDG plus a serious defender ... not a bad position to be in 🙂

And that's the other thing: for hits to pay off you are relying on perfect judgment and good luck. In most cases, I'd rather not start the week down four points, but that's just me.

Cheers and think you maybe right, Kane a decent captain option.

Will look to upgrade Silva to Sane next week I think and keep Jesus.

    2. Klaren
      • 6 Years
      6 years, 5 months ago

Wouldn't do it this week or for a -4, but I definitely wouldn't have Jesus or Aguero in the long term in my team unless one of them gets a long term injury. Sane and Sterling are much cheaper, has less rotation risk and score more points. 2 out of Kane, Morata, Lukaku (or all 3 if you want 3 premium strikers) and 2 Man City mids is a much better option imo.

Yep kind of kicking myself taking Sterling out instead of Silva when I had both after wildcard. Needed Salah tho and went with Silva for his perceived 'nailedness'.
