Scout Notes – Lukaku Finds Scoring Touch

Manchester United’s frontmen both find the net ahead of a weekend derby match at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Chelsea have to rely on an own goal for a share of the spoils with Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge.

It says everything about Romelu Lukaku’s recent fall from grace that, ahead of this Sunday’s Manchester derby, he is second only to suspended team-mate Paul Pogba for transfers out in Fantasy Premier League (116,000 to 190,000)

The Belgian forward’s ownership has been on the slide since Gameweek 8, losing more than a million managers during an eight-match slump in which he’s managed just one goal.

As a result, his equaliser in United’s 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow last night could not have been more timely.

Partnered by Marcus Rashford as Jose Mourinho continued with a 3-4-1-2 set-up, Lukaku steered home a Pogba pass as United finally found a way past the Russians to secure top spot in Group A of the Champions League.

Even more encouragingly for the 35.1% of FPL bosses who have stayed loyal to the forward, he was a purposeful presence throughout the match, although he did miss one big chance when the score was still 0-0.

More than 115,000 have sold Lukaku this week, with 47,000+ moving on to Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata. That’s the most popular swap ahead of Gameweek 16, while 70,000+ made the exact same move last week as well.

But Man City’s defence have kept just one clean sheet over the past six matches and once the derby is done, United’s schedule is set fair until a New Year’s Eve trip to Tottenham.

Rashford hit last night’s winner from a Juan Mata assist to break his own nine-match scoring drought in all competitions.

The 7.6-priced England international was a constant threat against the Russians last night, firing five efforts to Lukaku’s three.

However, Mourinho’s recent teamsheets indicate that Rashford – who has played just 26 minutes in the last two Gameweeks – could be back on bench-warming duties against City.

Anthony Martial was afforded just 17 minutes as a substitute last night and, having started the last four Gameweeks – supplying two goals and an assist – looks likely to partner Lukaku up top on Sunday.

Similarly, Jesse Lingard – unused against the Russians – looks likely to replace Mata in the support role, having netted twice against Arsenal last week.

In defence, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof worked in tandem for the fifth straight match in all competitions, with Daley Blind completing the back three as Marcos Rojo was rested.

The United boss made a total of five changes ahead of the derby, also giving the likes of David de Gea and Ashley Young the night off, with Sergio Romero, Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Mata and Rashford coming in.

The draw for the Champions League knockout stages takes place on Monday.

The first legs of the Round of 16 will take place on February 13/14 (after Gameweek 27) and 20/21 (prior to Gameweek 28), the second legs on March 6/7 and 13/14, either side of Gameweek 30.

Hazard productive in Chelsea stalemate

Chelsea came from behind to draw 1-1 with Atletico Madrid, but it wasn’t enough for the Blues to win Group C.

Coach Antonio Conte made just three changes from the team that beat Newcastle United at the weekend, with the most significant player rested on the night the 15.8%-owned wing-back Marcos Alonso.

Notably, Alonso is the only outfield player to start every league match for the Blues this term and now looks set to return to the teamsheet away to West Ham on Saturday lunchtime.

He was joined on the sidelines by Antonio Rudiger and Danny Drinkwater, with Davide Zappacosta, Gary Cahill and Tiemoue Bakayoko coming in.

The two most popular purchases heading into Gameweek 16, Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata, both started. The former played the full match, while the latter was replaced by Michy Batshuayi for the final nine minutes.

The in-form Hazard, who has five goals and three assists from his last six league starts, was a threat throughout and instigated the equaliser when his cross/shot was turned into the net by Atletico defender Stefan Savic.

However, it was Morata who boasted the hosts’ chief goal threat – he fired seven attempts to Hazard’s two and also bettered him for shots on target, by five to zero.

FPL managers owning Hazard (12.5%) and Morata (35.5%) will have been concerned to see their star men play so long last night, although Conte had little choice but to go with his key attackers with the chance to top the group up for grabs.

With a trip to the London Stadium on Saturday followed by a clash against Huddersfield just three days later, those owners will be hoping that Conte doesn’t manage their minutes too keenly.

Of the two, it’s arguably the Spaniard who looks more at risk of a rest as he’s started the last seven Gameweeks, and finished the last five, whereas Hazard sat out all but nine minutes of Gameweek 14’s win over Swansea City.

Meanwhile, emerging Fantasy asset Andreas Christensen made his sixth straight start in all competitions, and the 5.5-priced centre-half underlined his potential at set-pieces with a couple of headed chances last night. He would seem destined for another start the London Stadium with David Luiz set to remain on the sidelines with his ongoing knee problem.

So I'm thinking of make Hazard or Salah captain they both face a club with a "new" coach.

West Ham looked some what solid against City so why would Chelsea be able to break down that West Ham defence? Okay Hazard is in form but aren't City player too?

Everton look like they found them self again with two CS so will Liverpool be able to break down Everton?

Maybe it's just Kane we need?

West Ham is at home so they won't play as defensive as against city imo and chelsea should profit from that but salah also a good option

I would't say West Ham look solid, it was clearly the most tired City side this season. They will be rejuvenated vs United.

Kane(c) seems the logical pick, that being said i don't own Haz

Everton will be much more solid than they were so that kind of rules out Salah

it could be one of those weeks where some random 5.5 mid hauls and the ones we expect to score do nothing

      1. Tshelby
        • 9 Years
        6 years, 4 months ago

Cheers I will probabily do Hazard (c).
The only problem with that is that he plays the first game of the weekend.. That was also the reason why I didn't pick him as captain last week.. silly decision

haz(c) seems sensible, if i had him i'd be split between him and kane

i don't like an early captain either, if it fails you feel like you are playing catch up from the start, but at the end of the day it's who you think will get most points

          good luck

They are down from 20k to 6k, could Andy be responsible for that? I think it could be the fact that unfortunately some key "advises" by the scouts haven't really materialised and it put viewers off- just my opinion.

The scoutcast isn't there to advise. You have member stats for that . It's a few guys who play the game regular discussing what they will do. I think some folk expect too much myself . Anyone who follows other people's choices deserve all that get if it goes bad. Not saying you do of course ;-).

Maybe cause of how many Scoutcast's recently have had missing members, or mark not there. Ive enjoyed it each time regardless, but could imagine some people tuning out if they felt it was lacking a certain dynamic/chemistry without its full "cast".

I think alot of new players were tuning in have probably had a bad start and have lost interest.

I feel sorry for Andy, you could hear the disappointment in his voice during his latest YouTube video at the realization that his video days are in jeopardy due to the internet connection in his area. I really felt for him.

It's more the lack of masts and how far you will be from the exchange. Of course environmental issue will impact this too. It's more of the smaller number of people using it they can't justify their overheads

it's not really an issue of size. it's what infrastructure is present there. most of West of Ireland is very rural, comprising pockets of small villages. provision of decent internet service is just not as cost effective as it is on urban areas.

    Foster (Elliot)
    Ward, Simpson, Kola (Lowton*, Long)
    Salah, Choupo, Sterling, Richarlison (Carroll)
    Lukaku, Morata, Kane(C)

    2 FT, 0.0 ITB.

    Lukaku, Sterling to Hazard, Firmino?

Though about doing Sterling, Kola, Ward to Hazard, Mbemba, Kenny (-4), but that might be a little too aggressive. Its just I would like to keep Lukaku ideally for his fixtures.

    Hey! Would you change anything?
    Team right now is:
    Fabianski, Elliot
    Otamendi, Kola, Daniels (Tarkowski, 3.9)
    Gross, Salah, Hazard, Richardsson, Ramsey
    Kane, Morata (4.5)

    1 FT and 1.1 ITB

    A) Daniels - > Christensen
    B) Daniels - > Kiko
    C) Otamendi -> Christensen
    D) 4.5 - > DCL
    E) Save

Don't understand why my comment regarding Hazard owners sweating was removed??!

He played 90mins yday and plays Saturday lunchtime k.o and also midweek games. With Contes comments about rotation think a fair chance we see rotation.

possibly your comment was perceived as potentially provocative scaremongering as no context was given, leading to people taking an alternate inference then the rotation risk you intended to imply

I thought about it BUT Kun has a good record v United and he needs to start scoring. He looked tired the last 2. I am going to hold.

      I don’t think so.

I want Firmino next week and I also don’t have any city apart from Ota and I’m alright with it

    Courtois
    Azpilicueta Trippier Daniels
    Groß Ramsey Salah Sané
    Murray Morata Kane(C)

    Elliot Carroll Mbemba Jones

    £1.2 itb 0FT

Was gonna do Hazard + Otamendi for Azpi and Sane but now Otamendi's went up think I might wait and go for Kompany + Hazard next week? Then Daniels has horrendous fixtures!

Should I make any changes this/next week?

In this battle of double surnames, who would you play? Play one:

    A Loftus-Cheek
    B Calvert-Lewin

    Learning toward A atm

I am playing Calvert-Lewin against that Liverpool defense, they are so weak at defending headers and I hear he's good at them.

Am just after watching the above. Thought it may well interest many on here. Neville could be onto something here. The Scouts losing City assets, too...

Would anyone be able to advise when the FFS Cup qualifying results will be published, if not already done so?

Can't see anything other than the initial 'Entry' article stating that it would be shortly after 4th December, so just want to be sure I've not missed anything.

    Thanks,

Gents, after back-to-back top 10k finishes, I find myself in my worst season ever, so I'd deeply appreciate if you could spare your thoughts on what to do with the team below:

    Lossl, Elliot
    Ota, Jones, Azpi, Daniels, Lowton
    Salah, Sane, Richarlison, Cork, Carroll
    Kane, Morata, Wilson

    1FT and 2.1 ITB.

      carroll to shaqiri/Gross this week

downgrade kane after the 2 home games and upgrade wilson

      Hmm...
Your GKs aren't getting you much points. In defense you got Ota and Azpi who are great, and Jones who is potentially great if he can get back from that injury. So you don't need to change much there, although I'd sell Daniels after CPL.
Midfield is costing you points. Salah is great, Sane has been great but fixtures are stiffening now (next 3 at least).

Not quite sure what formation you are playing, is it 4-3-3?
Morata is a good pick and a lot would reccommend Kane of course and you obviously agree, so if you stick to those two, I would prioritize ridding yourself of Wilson, Carroll and Daniels and to fund the upgrades, possibly sell Sane.

Would you be willing to take a hit or two to sort things out?

imo this week he should get rid of carroll and get gross in . then have plastic surgery after 2 of kanes home games dont you think

I think with 1 transfer, that is his best move. If he's gonna take a -4, he might shift Wilson to DCL and then upgrade Carroll to Ramsey or Richarlison.

missing points in the mids, that's where the biggest points have been so far, for me i'd downgrade wilson to bench fodder and maybe a defender downgrade to supply funds and upgrade cork/caroll to go 3--5-2 or 4-4-2
