Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Salah Delivers

Liverpool’s star man is on the mark yet again to help offset some of the damage suffered by those without Sergio Aguero following his four-goal haul.

It wasn’t quite the 21 points produced by the Man City striker on Saturday, but Mohamed Salah’s goal, assist and two bonus in the Reds’ 2-0 win at Southampton was another good job well done by the prolific Egyptian.

Some 22.1% of Fantasy Premier League (FP) managers made him Gameweek 27’s most captained player and enjoyed a 13-point tally – the 12th double-figure performance of his stellar season – as a result.

Exactly half of FPL’s pre-Gameweek 27 top 100 managers were among those handing him the armband (Aguero was picked by 26), and Salah is now likely to receive similar backing for the foreseeable future.

Liverpool have three home matches, against West Ham, Newcastle and Watford, in the next four, with only Gameweek 30’s trip to Man United likely to dull his captaincy prospects.

Then again, Salah’s form is so irresistible – he’s produced attacking returns in 16 of his last 18 appearances – that even Old Trafford might not be able to tame him.

He set up Roberto Firmino’s opener at St Mary’s before the roles were reversed for the second goal, providing the 39% of managers on the Brazilian with 12 points as their man also took home maximum bonus.

A run of two goals in the previous six Gameweeks had persuaded 93,000+ to sell Firmino ahead of Saturday’s deadline, but he now has 12 goals for the season – his best ever league total – as he continues to do battle with Jamie Vardy for the mid-price forward slot. Surprisingly, however, Firmino still ranks fourth for sales so far ahead of Gameweek 28.

Liverpool defenders have been rather less prized assets this season, but today’s clean sheet made it two shut-outs from their last four matches, both of which have come away from home.

It was also the first clean sheet the Reds have kept with Virgil Van Dijk (5.5%) in the side.

The Dutchman will now be considered as the ideal replacement for Nicolas Otamendi, particularly if Man City’s FA Cup tie with Wigan goes to a replay, thus taking them out of the Gameweek 28 meeting with Arsenal. City will also miss Gameweek 31 should they progress past the Latics.

Liverpool have no such worries, their fourth round exit in the cup ensuring that Gameweek’s fixture against Watford will definitely go ahead.

In fact, the Reds’ lack of FA Cup duty should be a real boon for Fantasy managers, lessening the threat of rotation despite their upcoming Champions League commitments.

Gameweek 29’s visit from Newcastle might be the exception, however, coming as it does just three days before the second leg of their European tie against Porto, with the United match following that four days later.

The magnitude of the later two fixtures suggests that coach Jurgen Klopp will field his strongest possible sides in both, perhaps creating anxiety for that teamsheet against the Magpies.

Unholy times for Saints

Southampton’s 3-2 win at West Brom last week proved to be a blip and they’ve now won just twice in the league since Gameweek 13.

They did at least force Loris Karius into four saves today, helping the Liverpool stopper earn a bonus point, but both form and fixtures are stacked against them now.

The Saints will play just two of their next eight matches at home, and one of those is against Chelsea.

Four of their next five (STK new swa whu) involve relegation rivals and will likely decide their fate as the schedule turns rather spiteful from Gameweek 33.

All of that means their assets have little to no Fantasy appeal now.

James Ward-Prowse’s run of three goals and two assists from his previous four starts prompted more than 78,000 managers to draft him in this week.

The midfielder did at least put in a shift for his new owners, delivering three key passes and having two efforts on target – both team-leading figures on the day.

But his withdrawal on 70 minutes suggests his pitch-time could even be in doubt again, having played 90 mins in each of the last four matches.

Just to dimish the lure of their players further, Southampton will miss Gameweek 31 if either they, or their scheduled league opponents Swansea City, win in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday.

The Saints travel to West Brom, while the Swans are also away, at Sheffield Wednesday.

Yeah especially if you're playing FH chip GW31. But Tottenham have champions league and FA cup before the next league game. Maybe hold off for a week if you can.

What's the consensus on Mane guys? I already own Salah and Robertson, is it worth getting Otamendi out for VVD or Lindgard out for Senegales star man?

I brought Mane in two weeks ago and it's been annoying he hasn't produced any points. I watched Pool's game and Salah and Firmino should be enough in front. I'm thinking about removing him for Mkhi when the fixture turns positive. I will hold him for next GW as they play West Ham at home.

Pool's defense also looks interesting. I might get Karius to replace Pickford.

The problem I have with Firmino is I own Kane, Aguero and Niasse. Kane's staying in my team for obvious reasons, while Niasse doesn't blank and looks to be in favor again for Everton's good fixtures. The only possible move is Aguero out but I'm hesitant to do it with his good form but also because the switch to Auba next week looks so good.

    ---Elliot---CM----Ogbonna---Kabasele

Thoughts on my wc with 0.2itb. Thanks in advance:

    Foster (Pickford)
    Vertonghen, VVD, Mee (Naughton, Dummett)
    Salah, KDB, Sterling, Walcott (Ramsey)
    Kane (c), Firmino, Niasse

I got Ramsey even though he's injured assuming he won't be out too long.
I got Dummett but is Simpson or Chilwell a better option
I currently own Aguero but I left enough in the bank to get Kane if I decide to make that move.

Anyone else notice that the "conversation" / agenda on here is being steered towards a GW35 use of FH chip? Look at the way that players with a guaranteed game in 31 are being promoted as great suddenly with Walcott 2nd in the watchlist for midfielders (seriously??) and Bauer (who?) 3rd for defenders. Same with the Scout Picks this week, even though that's meant to be a one-GW team.

Everton and Stoke have great fixtures and no blank. That's why they are on the watchlist.

If you look at it, using FH in 35 looks a much better bet than 31 as it's post wildcard. Saves you messing with you DGW WC team.

We have 5 transfers to get in some non blank players, who have good fixtures along the way. Then WC straight away.

      Makes total sense to me.

I have 3 players for 31 and 6 for 35 at the moment and it looks easier to get a better scoring team out in 35 than 31 for me

This is not a good option imo, you’ll only have one GW (37) to make good use of your wildcard. GW38 is a lottery.
Also, there’s no way you will be able to bring in enough DGW34 players AND have enough players to field in 35 without taking loads of hits.

GW35 FH is clearly the best strategy imo

BB in 37 with 12/13 prime DGW players

It got me 187 points last year in 37 and 80 odd in 38 with a great bench in 38 that dealt with the inevitable 38 rotation

Too early to say. But looks like you might be ok to save. Im not convinced that any of those teams without a blank have enough potential to make returns(other than pool who i will have 3 of) so im inclined not to make that week a big factor in bringing new players in. Have walcott, 3 pool and big Shaq so far.

Anyone getting rid of Alonso regardless of how/if he performs today?
Im considering it as would allow me to bring in KDB or liverpool asset.

In my thoughts ... but not likely due to his free kicks and obvious 0-0 v Utd

Maybe that means neither will risk losing by attacking too much?
Chelsea loves to counterattack, and Mourinho might be the best at not allowing counterattacks.

      Looking at Alonso --> Vertonghen

      Or VVD / Bavies

Want Bavies so bad, but people say Rose might get back in the 11

I personally think Pochettino favour Bavies, he's looking as good as Rose ever has

You reckon too risky to bring bavies then?

    Fab
    Ota Jones Lowton
    Salah Sterling Shaqiri Lingard
    Kun Kane Firmino

    Speroni RLC Chilwell Hune

Really want to do Ota + Lingard > Daniels + Myki
    Do it?

Are you free hitting in GW 31 then?

If you don't plan on using FH in 31 I'd look for Ota / Lingard -> VVD / Walcott (if you can afford)

If Alonso plays, would you keep for Man U away and City away

Or do Alonso --> Vertonghen ? (more favourable fixtures)

Or someone else? would love Bavies, but Rose is lurking

Those playing FH in 31 and WC in 32/33. How are you gonna get players in for bgw 35, when most of the top teams will blank, and your team will be full of those players from dgw34?

I doubt anyone will FH 31 and then WC in 32, they will already have DGW players from 30

    Hi gents,
Have KDB and Sterling, no Aguero,
have Salah and VVD, no Firmino

plan is to get Firmino in for either Wilson or Niasse. most probably Wilson.
And must drop one of KDB and Sterling. Who to choose? Sterling high ownership, but low form recently, KDB vice versa.
    Who'd you ditch?

Firmino is a must, Wilson may have a fixture in 31 yet. Not sure Sterling has bad form though, not just as hot as KdB.

Tough decision but I think I would hold KdB

Neither, I think Sterling is still a better option than Firmino, until they’ve won the league.
