Dugout Discussion – Chelsea vs West Brom

Gameweek 27 concludes under the lights of Stamford Bridge for what looks to be a crucial encounter for both Chelsea and West Brom, for all kinds of reasons.

Antonio Conte’s tenure with the champions looks to be precarious at best following successive heavy defeats to Bournemouth and Watford. Another setback tonight would likely seal his fate.

Like Conte, Fantasy managers will be hoping for a reaction and a revival from the Blues.

However, we won’t benefit from returns from Marcos Alonso. The most sold Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player ahead of Saturday’s deadline he remains in 1.3 million squads but misses out once again having sat out the defeat at Watford through “fatigue”. Conte has confirmed that a twisted ankle suffered in training is to blame for his latest absence.

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard remains an erratic but potentially powerful differential. Owned by just 474,000 managers, he has the talent to deliver big against the bottom club.

He is backed with 119,000+ captaincies, including seven of the top 100 managers prior to Saturday’s deadline.

Just two of his nine goals have arrived on home turf this season – both scored against Newcastle in Gameweek 15. He did, however, score his season-high 18-point total against West Brom in the reverse fixture in Gameweek 12.

Olivier Giroud might just be vital to the Belgian’s prospects. He makes his full debut tonight, leading the Chelsea attack with Hazard deployed as one of a supporting two – Pedro also flanks the former Arsenal striker.

The weekend could not have been more troublesome for West Brom; they now find themselves seven points adrift and challenged to come away from West London with some reward. Plenty of Fantasy managers will be hoping that they are denied.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Wigan fan here.
      Latics have beaten city the previous two times they've not played in the fa cup in recent time.
      For city- The game vs wigan is sandwiched between an away game in champion league and a cup final with Arsenal

        Makes me think that is this the time for WC? As team isn't in the best of shape, along with this I have RLC and martial too whom I want to replace. But then the tried and tested WC prior to DGW is overwhelming

          Not sure if it is worth wildcarding to get players from smaller teams scrapping for relegation right now.

          Think you can get rid of Alonso or Ota and upgrade maybe RLC and you should be good to go.

          Certainly worth saving the wildcard for DGWs as we have learnt from past seasons.

        Yeh, big teams now back in Europe means heavy rotation and crap teams don’t keep many clean sheets.

        Tempted to move to more cheap & nailed defs from the non-European involved 14 teams, and spend more money in midfield / attack.

      GWs 31 or 35.

      If you already have a base of Liv, Wat, Eve, Stoke players, makes sense to add a few more that play in GW31 once Cup results are known, and save FH for 35.

      If however you hardly have any players from those 4 teams, GW31 looks reasonable time to play it as, barring any major Cup shocks it looks like there only being 3 or 4 games on in 31.

      Is it really worth starting to make transfers now just to maximise how many players you will have for 1 GW (GW31) especially when your GW31 players are more than likely going to cancel each other out as they are playing each other.

      Now the pool of teams is likely to get bigger after this weekend BUT

      At the min the only team we know to be playing and is worth investing in is Liverpool.

      Look at the team you would end up with for GW 32 and the players you missed out on for the weeks previous because you wanted more Watford/Stoke cover?!?

      The free hit is an option (if you still have it) but for the time being, for me it's looking like letting it slide by.

      Thoughts anyone?

        Yes I’m more worried about loading up on crap now and missing say Arsenal’s good run.

        But if people are thinking only 7-9 players is ok, then surely you have room for a 2-3 week punt. Like Aubameyang for example.
