FFS Charity Football Tournament

In just under a fortnight, on Saturday 24th February, around 30 Fantasy Football Scout community members will be putting away their keyboards and dusting off their replica kits as they get ready to play a round-robin, seven-a-side charity football tournament.

The event takes place at Hendon Football Centre, Barnet, NW9 5PE, between 12-3pm and has been organised by myself and TopMarx.

The day is being staged in memory of Simon Humber, who lost his battle with ocular melanoma in 2015. Simon was the creative director of EA’s FIFA team, a Portsmouth FC fan and a popular member of the Fantasy Football Scout community as ‘Absinthe’.

All the money raised will go to The Melanoma Research Foundation – a charity identified and verified in our recent contact with Simon’s family.

More information about Simon, together with an opportunity to donate, is available at this Just Giving page.

Please note that donations are expressed in dollars, rather than pounds, so a donation of $10 will be around £7.20 (based on the exchange rate on the morning of 12th February 2018).

The current squad lists (which may vary on the day) are below, but even if you are not playing or spectating please spare a few moments and a few quid by clicking on the Just Giving link and making a donation.

In addition to donations, a strict punitive system will be operated on the day with fines in place for diving, being nutmegged, late tackles and anything else the FFScout community can suggest. We are hoping to get some footage of the matches but can’t promise Sky Sports standard broadcasting.

So far I'm only sitting on the following (or likely) GW31 players:

    Salah
    Ibe
    Quaner

That means I can get a likely minimum of 7 with FT's but Quaner/Ibe are potential 1 pointers and I can't then pick up Arsenal assests for their good fixtures.

I'm of the belief that the free hit GW34 strategy has more merit but in my position is it better used in GW31?

All chips in tact. Any advice would be much appreciated

The situation will become a lot clearer at the weekend when we know who exactly has a blank. I would still stick to the GW34 strategy. A hit for a Huddersfield or Everton player in GW30 might be worth it as they then would have 2 favorable fixtures and give you 7 or 8 players for the blanks.

Glad you said that as I was still leaning in this direction. It's just whether not owning one of Mkhi, Auba or an Ars defender could be an opportunity missed but atleast they are likely to have moderately low ownership initially anyway

Free hit before wildcard surely? Then you don't gash up your team getting a decent gw31 line up. If you wait until gw36/37 to use wc you're getting less benefit from it.

I’ve said it before and been shot down for my opinion. And I’m not bitter, not this week anyway. I’ve got Milivojevic coming off the bench for Alonso.

But should I really be getting his 8 points? I feel like autosubs should get you half points.

    1. Bubz
      • 10 Years

Of course you should, you picked your squad and put him first on your bench, why shouldn't you get his points if a player doesn't play

It sort of is, or that’s how I see it anyway.

No fault of mine that Jones scored an own goal a few weeks ago. Why should I be punished for that?

No fault of mine that Kane missed a few sitters. I’ll take his goal points please.

The whole game is about predictions. I just feel we should be rewarded for making the best decisions. I even asked the ‘who to start’ question on Friday night: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2018/02/09/scout-picks-gameweek-27-5/?hc_page=8#hc_comment_17651960

Clearly, I didn’t choose Milivojevic in my 11, yet I’m still picking up all of his points because Conte didn’t pick Alonso.

You didn't know Alonso was injured. Currently you can play injured players and get autosubs. Own goals are in the scoring system.

Nobody *knows* anything, is my point.

I know it’s the current scoring system and I’m putting an argument forward to change it, because it’s flawed.

In my opinion, you should be rewarded for picking players that start. I never picked Milivojevic. I’m getting his points because of a poor decision to start Alonso, who, let’s be honest, was a doubt for this game. He was injured for the last game. There was a fair chance he wouldn’t start. But I decided to play him anyway. I know that Milivojevic coming in was a possibility. But I decided he wasn’t important enough for my 11. So I don’t think I should get full points.

                I understand your argument too.

No, otherwise I might as well just have crap players on the bench and the game becomes too much about the first 11

I like it as an extra strategic consideration - whether to go for the bench fodder and cash in or pay slightly more for the stronger bench but could be short of funds for a vital transfer

I’m not getting punishment tonight. I’m getting pure reward. Last week Chelsea conceded 4 and I took Milivojevic’s 10.

Of course Alonso may have scored more than 8 tonight, but if I was offered 8 from him, I’d have taken it.

surely the point is that normally you have a weaker player coming off the bench. That's the penalty.
How often really do bench players come on with big points?
      Bet it's a small %.
Wouldn't most Alonso owners this week or last week before kick-off rather have him on the pitch or have a sub coming off the bench for him? Doubt there were big defender pts coming in for him last week with only a Utd CS.

City is the perfect game for Vardy, don't get why you would bench!

        Because of my other players

Wouldn't describe it as perfect. He was lucky to get a goal on the day. I get that he makes his own luck against top opposition, but I figured players like Coleman, Otamendi and Azpi had a higher chance of returns. Close call though.

Rose is the only obstacle I didn't do Ota > Bavies last week.

        Everyone worries about Rose

I just want to take the chance, if they rotate I'll get a bench player no problem

Spurs have Crystal Palace without Zaha, Hud(H) and Bou(A)

Smells like clean sheets and attacking returns

Not laughing at Sturridge, but definitely smirking at Pardews bad luck. Arrogant yet clueless manager

Yeah I would have tried for Danny Ings not Sturridge if I was Pardew but too late now ....

Ings deserves to be playing each week - I would love him to come to West Ham - I know he is back fit but I don't remember last time Ings got minutes ?

    GW28 current thoughts:

    OUT:
    Otamendi (poor form & fix)
    Alonso (injury/who knows)
    Deporte (deadwood)

    IN:
VVD (Good Fix, GW31, chance of bonus)
Van der Hoorn (currently nailed, good fix, allows other moves)
Firmino (Good form & fix, GW31)

Yes, weird isn’t it, that now we’re planning exit strategies for Otamendi and Alonso!

Yeah I mean both of them were on their last chances this weekend for a lot of people and their fixtures are poor for the next few + bgw

Good moves imo I have done 2 of those 3 and was rewarded this week with VVD 7 and Bobby 12

I've refused Bobby for so long because of his history of going on runs of scoring. Now the time has come to get him and keep him I feel. VVD has great fix and I liked what klopp said about trying to manage games better, all positive for liv def.

    Ederson, Alonso, Hazard -> ....?

Can basically afford anyone. VVD for Alonso seems sensible?

Got 2 weeks to decide so not even bothering to think about this right now.

Him and Otamendi will no doubt be dictating my 2 FT’s next week.

Alonso twisted his ankle in training on Saturday
