Dugout Discussion – Stoke vs Man City

Gameweek 30 concludes at the bet365 Stadium tonight as Stoke City entertain champions-elect Manchester City.

The third most-captained player in Fantasy Premier League, Sergio Aguero, misses out due to a knee injury, with Pep Guardiola affording the fit-again Gabriel Jesus a first start since Gameweek 21.

Handed the armband by 1.16% of FPL managers, the Brazilian returned to the teamsheet with a goal against FC Basel in midweek.

Jesus is one of three players in the visitors’ starting line-up – along with Kevin De Bruyne (3.34%) and Leroy Sane (0.88%) – ranked in the top 20 captain picks for Gameweek 30 as they look for a repeat of the 7-2 win over the Potters back in Gameweek 8.

Sane heads into tonight’s match as the most bought player for this round of fixtures, acquired by 192,000+ new owners.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling – sold by a massive 339,000+ ahead of Saturday’s deadline – is fit to return and is named in the starting XI, as Bernardo Silva drops to the bench despite back-to-back strikes against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Guardiola’s side arrive on the back of successive clean sheets and boast the league’s tightest away record, conceding just ten goals in 14 road trips.

After scoring in three of his previous four league appearances, Xherdan Shaqiri is the man most likely to breach that resilience for Paul Lambert’s side, with tonight’s match affording us the chance to scout the Potters’ potential ahead of Gameweek 31’s reduced set of fixtures.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      26 -4 here.
The -4 was to get Aguero (c).
Worst GW rank ever in 9 seasons.
So all in all, not great.

How many hits in 31 is too many? How many is everyone planning on - none, one, two?

Based on the assumption that each player will get 2 points more than the guy you are replacing is a minus 12 feasible? I think I'll at least be going for a minus 8 and loading up on Bournemouth. Obviously it could backfire bigtime but WBA are so bad there is a good chance for double figures for one or two.

I should add I've already had 64 points in hits so definitely not risk averse (or am somewhat stupid).

Yeah you are probably right ... and I'm not going to make up ground on the free hitters. Definitely taking a minus four though - more exposure the better. It might not pay off but one assist from a midfielder/forward will mean its a success.

Hits cost 4 points each, not 2, even in a blank game-week.
If the new player is replacing a blank for a hit, then he needs to score 4 points to break even that game-week.
If he is not replacing a blank, then he needs to get 4 points more than the player he replaces in your starting eleven to break even that game-week.
Any hits for players that you do not expect to get at least 4 points are too many.

What do to with this lot and 1 FT?

    Pope Elliot
    SCHINDLER ZANKA DANIELS MARIAPPA Long
    SALAH MANE CHOUPO Hazard Mahrez
    FIRMINO QUANER Kane

The obvious move is Haz to Shaq, though I am tempted to take a hit to bring in a keeper and/or a striker if Kane is out.

Hypothetically, if you were to do Kane to Firmino, would you consider using the funds to turn Quaner to a bigger goal threat for a hit? I know Quaner should get minutes but doubt more than a 1 pointer.

The only glimmer of hope is that your rival has no chips left. And I don't mean that only in terms of points to be gained directly from from chip use (around 40 - 70, maybe) but also because it tells me that he/she is probably not a very experienced player. Your rival's season could well implode after a few big red arrows.

I'd worry more about being joint 7th. That's five or six other players that you need to catch as well.

I want a Bournemouth striker for GW31 but it seems to be a bit of a minefield...

Seen lots of Josh King in FH teams for GW31 and non-FH teams looking to bring him in... are people confident he’ll start vs WBA? Mousset to drop out for him I suppose?

Seems Wilson may be under threat from Defoe too.

The transfers disappear - essentially free hit replaces everything.

Think I'm set on this agressive approach with triple LIV, BOU, Palace & double EVE WBs. Ignoring WBA & Watford is pretty easy and I think both Stoke & HUD will get turned over.
Punty but could score very high with some luck! Thoughts?

    Hennessey
    Coleman / Baines / PVA
    Salah / Mane / Stan / Zaha
    Firmino / King / Wilson

I don't fancy the triple up on Bou attackers and double up on Everton defenders.

Why not get in Ake / Daniels to replace Coleman / Baines and play Shaqiri. Stoke has to fight for victory in that game.

Yes it's extremely punty but it could spectacularly backfire also

              Cue drab 0-0 😉

I don't really want a striker to be honest (planned transfers were Stanislas and Zaha/Shaqiri in) but as I'm already planning next week's wildcard I need every 0.1 I can get, so Ayew has to go to bank that 0.2 profit.

The pathetic-ness of WBA is making me seriously consider the Bou triple up in attack on free hit. Double up already locked in (Stanislas + King)

    A) Begovic & Tosun
    B) Hennessey & Wilson

Wilson a better bet surely? Mousset doesn't usually start and Ibe hasn't started since his injury, not sure if he was available though. Wilson is profligate in most good fixtures, but WBA is the place where all profligate strikers turn to gold dust.

ibe came of the bench against spurs. i guess hes ready to start the next game. im just in the middle of choosing ibe or stan.
im just not too sold on stan, he is still a liability.... he could/would pull a muscle in middle of the game or during warm up.
plus hes been playing in 7games straight thats the longest run hes has...

      Must have read old news.
Ok forget Zaha but if both played 45 is Benteke now a bad option for a one week punt.

Benteke was very poor last game and got hauled off. Roy started with two up front with new striker Sorloth looking decent. Zaha will most likely start in 31. Roy might even bench Benteke after his lethargic performance!

Plenty of Palace players coming back from injury: Zaha, Sakho, Cabaye, RLC. Could be great for the team, but not so great for other team mates' minutes.

    hi all
had my worst gameweek this season and thinking about alternate options with the chips to get back on track.
so the consensus around here is :
    WC in 32/33
    BB/TC in 34
    FH in 35
    BB/TC in 37

After this week well know which teams blank in 35 and have an idea of what we can do with the free hit but considering we may be able to put out a decent amount of players with fts and maybe a hit or two what are peoples thoughts on going about it like this:
    FH in 34
    WC in 36
    BB in 37
and TC in 38 putting it on one of the players going for the golden boot

We'll know what each teams have left to play for and the top4 battle will likely be on so Kane or Salah could be great options

What are peoples thoughts on this ?

      Tc better in dgw?

in theory it is but there have been as many TC fails as successes in double game weeks. Its about the points that can be gained and players like Kane and Aguero have managed to get 21 in single game weeks and if they are chasing the golden boot can get a score like that which would be a massive TC success.

Obviously having 2 games to hit that kind of score would increase the odds but it doesn't guarantee it, Kane got 3 points in gw 22 and last year aguero got 9 in gw27 and the year before that people TC'd Carroll and got 3.

Just thinking about alternate strategies for the chips - gw38 does tend to be very high scoring historically

    Lossl
    Ake, Kenny
Stanilas, Salah, Mane (C), Allen, Walcott
    Firmino, Wilson

Enough? Not using FH; WC next week.

Looks good but why risk the captain punt that could ruin any other gains you make?

Mane has given me pleasant rewards for the last few gws when I brought him in.

So thought it could be a good captain choice

Ok what ye thinks of these moves to get 7 out this week? Players being removed just on lack of value gained rather that anything else will WC32

    Kane A.King Eriksen
    > Benteke Shaqiri Pritchard

    Giving
    Robertson
    Salah Pritchard Shaqiri
    Firmino Benteke and Wilson
    ( Walcott Kenny)

    Suggestions for better moves please

The general consensus is it's not worth a hit to bring in a gw31 defender, correct?

Don't know if there is a consensus. Some see it as a 2 point hit

It depends on who you are bringing in. Baines for example could well be worth it as he has the attacking potential and on pens (most likely).

I think its useful to look at a player's average points per match.

I'm going to take a few hits, but I consider the hit as spread across 2 gameweeks.

    Alonso + Sterling --> Coleman + Shaqiri -4

    Or

    Sterling + Mkhi --> Shaqiri + Stanislas -4

Then wild card the week after
