Dugout Discussion – Stoke vs Man City

Gameweek 30 concludes at the bet365 Stadium tonight as Stoke City entertain champions-elect Manchester City.

The third most-captained player in Fantasy Premier League, Sergio Aguero, misses out due to a knee injury, with Pep Guardiola affording the fit-again Gabriel Jesus a first start since Gameweek 21.

Handed the armband by 1.16% of FPL managers, the Brazilian returned to the teamsheet with a goal against FC Basel in midweek.

Jesus is one of three players in the visitors’ starting line-up – along with Kevin De Bruyne (3.34%) and Leroy Sane (0.88%) – ranked in the top 20 captain picks for Gameweek 30 as they look for a repeat of the 7-2 win over the Potters back in Gameweek 8.

Sane heads into tonight’s match as the most bought player for this round of fixtures, acquired by 192,000+ new owners.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling – sold by a massive 339,000+ ahead of Saturday’s deadline – is fit to return and is named in the starting XI, as Bernardo Silva drops to the bench despite back-to-back strikes against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Guardiola’s side arrive on the back of successive clean sheets and boast the league’s tightest away record, conceding just ten goals in 14 road trips.

After scoring in three of his previous four league appearances, Xherdan Shaqiri is the man most likely to breach that resilience for Paul Lambert’s side, with tonight’s match affording us the chance to scout the Potters’ potential ahead of Gameweek 31’s reduced set of fixtures.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I look at which you lose least SV on and go from there especially if planning WC32
Personally I would change one of the attackers. Can't see many CS this week.

Just went through the fixtures in details and here are some thoughts. Note that i have already used my TC.

    - United, Chelsea, Spurs and Lei are the main teams that should be on your wildcard. They have decent fixtures now and have 2 decent doubles.
    - Arsenal has a very strong 32 and 33 and a decent double as well. You might not need them for beyond 35.
    - City have a decent 32 and double. You can get 1 or 2 players and then punt on the right ones in FH 35
    - I've considered the BB 37 strategy but as per the predicted fixtures there's no advantage you're gaining by holding the wildcard till late since 4 main teams for both doubles are pretty strong and will be the core of your team in 34 and 37 which makes it easier to FH in 35
    - Swans have a really good double in 34. Makes Fabs and the Ayew brothers and Mawson great options.
    - If you plan to FH later in 37 instead of 35, your wildcard needs to include a lot of Arsenal, City and Burnley players. United, Che, Spurs and Lei all have a blank in 35. These four teams have decent fixtures in 36 and 38 as well.
    - The only new teams with doubles in 37 are Hud and Bou. Hud have terrible fixtures in 37. Hence no point saving the wildcard for later since the core will remain the same with your early wildcard team.

      - One of the reasons to hold wildcard for 33 is to not get Che and Spurs players since they play each other in 32.
      - Swans who will be on your wildcard have a poor 32 as well.

        - Wildcarding in 32 gets you access to a good Arsenal and Leicester fixture. And a nailed on United CS.

              With 9 players for GW31.
And with Huddersfield and Bournemouth having good fixtures.
There's no rubbish in the first 11 whatsoever.
Kane to Auba is the easiest move ever.

Depends on what kind of team you have for GW32. All about situations. If you find yourself in a good situation for 32, no need to WC. If you do, get out of Jail and WC.

Don’t know how much this would cost, but off the top of the head:

      DDG / Kasper
Mawson / Alonso / bavies / chilwell / (another swan)
      Willian / Son / Mahrez / Salah / Rashford
      Kane / Vardy / Ayew

Would probably want a city mid in there. Maybe Silva. Maybe even Jesus

Davies will be rotated in a DGW. I think you probably need to avoid rotating wingbacks in DGWs, and players like Rashford who play every 2nd game.

Load up on those players he mentioned who have a game in 35. Arsenal, City and Burnley. So you get 34 BB and then cover the free hitters. 37 is where you will lose ground probably.

I'm in the same boat. Thinking something like this for BB34:

        Lloris, Ederson
        Otamendi, Lowton, Kolasinac, Smalling, Morgan
Mkhitaryan, Arnautovic, Gudmundsson, De Bruyne, Kenedy
        Kane, Barnes, Aubameyang

        GW35:
        Ederson(SWA)
        Otamendi(SWA), Lowton(sto), Kolasinac(WHM)
        Mkhitaryan(WHM), Arnautovic(ars), Gudmundsson(sto), De Bruyne(SWA), Kenedy(eve)
        Barnes(sto), Aubameyang(WHM)

Gives me 7 DGW players for 37 without hits.

yep. spot on. ive made a couple of draft wc teams and they include 2 each of united, chelsea, spurs, lei and swans for budget. Gives me 14 potential double players plus salah for 34. not having kane around though really opens things up and gives those who have used their TC like u and me a bit of hope that more people could mess it up.

Nice summary but should have noted assumptions:
      1. All GW31 blank fixtures rescheduled to GW34
      2. All GW35 blank fixtures rescheduled to GW37
      3. FA Cup quarters all go with favourites (Utd, Che, Tot, Sou).

If any of these things don’t happen then it needs replanning. Eg if Chelsea beat Leicester in Cup but Wigan beat Southampton at home, Leicester don’t blank in 35 or double in 37

        1. All GW31 blank fixtures rescheduled to GW34

This could have been confirmed after the FA Cup replays were concluded but the PL has held off, probably due to clash of broadcaster requirements in 34.

With Spurs and Man U out of CL, GW 32 and 33 is available for rescheduling their 31 blank fixtures. Chelsea will be in that boat too if they lose to Barce ...

I agree with this, especially with wc 32
        Aguero to firm for free
        Kane to Mounie
        Lingard to shaqui

If Mounie and shaqui just play 90 mins and nothing else and score 4 Im only 4 points down over ‘playing’ Kane and lingard

Not really, say you bought Ayew this week for -4 now you have -6. No points are ever guaranteed

The average score is likely to be bellow 30 maybe close to 20 so if you’re willing to throw away 20% of your potential score before the whistle I see that as counter productive

Hi all. I'm in the unfortunate position where life gets in the way of fantasy. Have a breather for now. . I still have all my chips left but from next weekend, I'll only be able to spend minimal effort on my fantasy team again :/ . Are there any articles running chip strategies? At the moment I'm at wild carding gw 32 and free hit gw 35? Which double gameweek is good for BB?

If you’ve got them all the current herd thinking is:
      WC32 (or 33)
      BB34
      FH35
      TC37

Thinking of pulling off my boldest and craziest decision in FPL by putting Triple Captain on Salah this week.I am fielding 11 without FH so can do it.Well with Kane out and no Liverpool DGW there are hardly any reliable options.Man City would have wrapped the league by 37 and Chelsea play Liverpool so not Alonso.Son and Mahrez look the best bets but I don't trust them and united are not free scoring, maybe Auba but arsenal will go all in for Europa.Salah vs Watford is so tempting, even If he blanks the entire world will have him as (C) and anyways the people who used TC on Kane got 3 points.Plus Salah blanked last week and he hardly blanks back to back.Liverpool won this fixture 6-1 last year.My only worry is that Salah is not picking up BAPS these days.what do you guys think?

As you say. The whole world would have Salah captain. It's a bold move, but the wrong week imo

but TC has to be on Salah, whatever week it is IMO.Watford is too good a fixture.

Looks like it is clear what you want to do. Your argument looks valid too but it is just that the risks are too high. I would need 'cojones' to place TC on a SGW player 😀

How is this team without hits?

    Begovic
    Coleman, VVD
    Salah(C), Shaqiri, Walcott
    Quaner, Firmino

Should I sale Kane for Benteke/Wilson or any other forward recommended for -4?. Won't lose value as he is dropping anyway I presume and has Chelsea in 32. Will get him if fit or go for Auba.

In terms of WCing in GW32 vs GW33. For a hit in GW32 I can get this out and then WC in GW33:

    Pope
    VVD Alonso Dawson
    Salah Stanislas Mkhi Son
    Auba Firmino Wilson/Shaqiri

Might be worth keeping it one more week, but scared of being knocked out of LMS with this lot...

Anyone worth a hit here? WCing next week.

    A) No
    B) Aguero -> Mounie (-4)
    C) Ogbonna -> Baines/Bauer/PVA (-4)
    D) Sterling -> Choupo (-4)

    Pickford
    Daniels, Francis, Schindler
    Salah, Mane, Walcott, Shaqiri
