Dugout Discussion – Stoke vs Man City

Gameweek 30 concludes at the bet365 Stadium tonight as Stoke City entertain champions-elect Manchester City.

The third most-captained player in Fantasy Premier League, Sergio Aguero, misses out due to a knee injury, with Pep Guardiola affording the fit-again Gabriel Jesus a first start since Gameweek 21.

Handed the armband by 1.16% of FPL managers, the Brazilian returned to the teamsheet with a goal against FC Basel in midweek.

Jesus is one of three players in the visitors’ starting line-up – along with Kevin De Bruyne (3.34%) and Leroy Sane (0.88%) – ranked in the top 20 captain picks for Gameweek 30 as they look for a repeat of the 7-2 win over the Potters back in Gameweek 8.

Sane heads into tonight’s match as the most bought player for this round of fixtures, acquired by 192,000+ new owners.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling – sold by a massive 339,000+ ahead of Saturday’s deadline – is fit to return and is named in the starting XI, as Bernardo Silva drops to the bench despite back-to-back strikes against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Guardiola’s side arrive on the back of successive clean sheets and boast the league’s tightest away record, conceding just ten goals in 14 road trips.

After scoring in three of his previous four league appearances, Xherdan Shaqiri is the man most likely to breach that resilience for Paul Lambert’s side, with tonight’s match affording us the chance to scout the Potters’ potential ahead of Gameweek 31’s reduced set of fixtures.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hey all, my team atm: Pope
    Alonso, VVD, Daniels, Mee, Collins
    Son, Sane, Salah, Walcot, Diame
    Kane, Firmino, Wilson
    I have 2ft, thinking Alonso>Baines
    Diame>Zaha?

you're right, can't believe I've stayed loyal for so long, especially with Salah a perma-captain option - I was/am definitely going without anyway (until 36/37)

    Lossl

Hey guys. Have asked this a few times and have had no real response. Everyone seems to be planning for the next few weeks with literally EVERY combination of chips except the ones myself (and my whole mini league) have. Rough plan is.

    Wildcard (33)
    Bench Boost (34)
    Triple (37)

As you can see though. NO FREE HIT.

As such. How should a navigate 35 without one? Should I limit the number of players on my wildcard who don't have a fixture that week? Can I roll two transfers into 35 AFTER my bench boost to help? Or should I not wildcard 33 at all. Instead using my triple in 34 and wildcard in 36 after the blank.

    Please help thanks!

      • 8 Years

Arsenal & Liverpool players on your wildcard will help.

United, Spurs & Cheslea/Leicester will more than likely have a blank.

Liverpool don't have a double? Although will be keeping Salah obviously. Need 14 doubles for 34, but basically 9 of them need to not have a blank in 35...

I suppose I just have to wait to work that out

        1. Karan14
          • 8 Years
          6 years, 1 month ago

They don’t have a double but they have good fixtures and more importantly no blank in 35 which is key for people with no FH. Salah & Firm/Mane might be worth keeping.

      I'm doing WC36, BB37, FH38 - if I had TC I'd play it in 34 on Auba/Kaku I think

If I were you I'd do the above (without FH obviously), then bring in 31/35 players this week for a hit (they stay on your bench until 35 - so cheap Stoke/Palace), then bring in Arsenal/Burnley/City between 32-34. Easy 😉

Anyone else have a little play with the ole' wildcard... it is like Christmas.

    DDG Dubruvka
    Alonso Vertonghen Lowton Chillwell Naughton
    Salah Sterling Mahrez Son Kennedy
    Aubameyang Vardy Wood

Thoughts? Obviously waiting until DGW fixtures are sorted but this is my initial idea. Around 70-80 points behind in my ML's. 56k overall.

Only glaring issue I can see is no Chelsea attack. And all depends on Kane.

I'm in a similar position but with VVD and Mane. (And Salah, obvs.)

Tempted to swap out VVD to free up the Firmino slot, but think I'll sit tight.

I suppose the missing factor is who you would get for Ox – with a -4 you have to take both transfers into account, it isn't "basically" Ox vs. Firmino -4, it's Ox+other striker vs. Firmino+other midfielder - 4.

If Kane's is out for a month.
He will be back for the first of the doubles.
Unlikely he would play both though, as with the previous doubles that a lot of you spunked you TC on.

Would you put him into your WC team. And does it strengthen the case of a GW33 WC

For me. It strengthens GW33 WC. We would be more clearer about Kane update.

The GW32 WC'ers would have a difficult job getting him back in after spreading the funds. And potential injuries to other players in the team to deal with.

Price changes aren't affected from Wildcards.

              I'll try for 33.

But it depends what my team looks like after this weekend.

I'm really undecided about whether to take a hit or two in GW31.

What are people's thoughts about hits this week? For or against?

Will we get the points back if wildcarding soon after? A blank player has a 100% chance of zero points - surely better to go for at least the opportunity of getting some points?

FFS hasn't really done much on the subject of hits during a blank (it would be a great topic for a burning question article) so it would be good to get people's thoughts.

All for hits, but only if they are for a Liverpool or a Bournemouth attacker this week. I'm fairly confident hits taken for either will pay off.

They have a reasonable fixture in 32 as well, so a little more time to make the points back.

Also a little more time to LOSE the points if the player you replaced gets something in GW32.

I've gone for a -8. But I was only fielding 6 if not.

I have got players I really think will get over 4.

      Ake - I think a CS
      Stan - assist
      Mounie - goal

Do you consider a minus 8 to be a minus 4?

Some of the players I think are worth taking a hit this week given the fixtures & form.

      Salah (everyone owns him though)
      Mane
      Firmino
      Stanislas
      King (maybe)

Not so confident of the other games being high scoring. Also depends on which player you’re getting rid of and how much value you have tied in them and if you would want them back on your wildcard.

More fun to take hits. I'm probably taking one. No more than one.

4 points could be a huge slice of the points on offer on Saturday.

I have planned but not gone overboard so currently sitting with 6 players. I will take a hit or maybe two but in the knowledge i can loose out some points by doing it. You gotta have a ticket to win in the lottery is my approach to it. And i also think there is some teams and players that could make it profitable, especially Bournemouth, but also Stoke at home to a toothless Everton team is tempting. As it stands i think i will go for a Bournemouth defender, King or Wilson, Butland and Mounie. I have two free, so it´ll be a minus 8 and in my head the hits are for the attackers, anyway, if anything the chances of getting at least the 8 points back should be possible. And no point saving transfers as i will wc next week. My 6 is Robertson, Salah, Firmino, Shaq, Stani and Schindler.

    Current GW 31 squad:
    VVD - Schindler
    Walcott - Salah - Pritchard - Shaqiri
    Quaner - Firmino
    3.3 itb
Tinkering with who to get in, only makes me more uncertain what to go for.
    I see the options as:

    1. Get rid of VVD to Mane (meaning a -4) in hope that three Liverpool attackers pays off.
    2. With three Huddersfield players stay clear of any Palace players, and focus on bringing one Bournemouth player for free - but who? Wilson/King/Stanislas?
    3. Other?

    What are your thoughts?

Genuinely considering using my free transfer this week to do Kane to Aubamayang so I don't lose value

I have eleven for 31 anyway so options are to lose value and do it next week or take him out for King and bench Michael Keane or Zanka.

    Thoughts?
