Dugout Discussion – Stoke vs Man City

Gameweek 30 concludes at the bet365 Stadium tonight as Stoke City entertain champions-elect Manchester City.

The third most-captained player in Fantasy Premier League, Sergio Aguero, misses out due to a knee injury, with Pep Guardiola affording the fit-again Gabriel Jesus a first start since Gameweek 21.

Handed the armband by 1.16% of FPL managers, the Brazilian returned to the teamsheet with a goal against FC Basel in midweek.

Jesus is one of three players in the visitors’ starting line-up – along with Kevin De Bruyne (3.34%) and Leroy Sane (0.88%) – ranked in the top 20 captain picks for Gameweek 30 as they look for a repeat of the 7-2 win over the Potters back in Gameweek 8.

Sane heads into tonight’s match as the most bought player for this round of fixtures, acquired by 192,000+ new owners.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling – sold by a massive 339,000+ ahead of Saturday’s deadline – is fit to return and is named in the starting XI, as Bernardo Silva drops to the bench despite back-to-back strikes against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Guardiola’s side arrive on the back of successive clean sheets and boast the league’s tightest away record, conceding just ten goals in 14 road trips.

After scoring in three of his previous four league appearances, Xherdan Shaqiri is the man most likely to breach that resilience for Paul Lambert’s side, with tonight’s match affording us the chance to scout the Potters’ potential ahead of Gameweek 31’s reduced set of fixtures.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Which pair would you have for DGW 34

    A) Willian+ firmino
    B) Lukaku+ 5.6

This blank week team has ruined my squad & team value ,and kane injury(if long term) makes son a must as he'll be playing as a striker sometimes thus I am left with above 2 spots ,any help?

Firmino only has a single game so I’d say B with someone cheap like that with 2 fixtures

    Morning all,

I have been running a WhatsApp group for FFS posters since two seasons. We are looking to recruit for next season, so I thought I'd make a post here to see which ones of you are interested. Ideally we're looking for FPL managers who have been around these parts from quite a while and are not only willing to take advice but also keen to give it back. Our 33 man group comprises of prominent HOF members and FFS posters, including Bowstring the Carp who is 10th worldwide this season. All those interested in joining the group can feel free to hit me up at the following email address, providing me with your FFS and FPL details:

If we knew those DGW games were going to be in 34, it would make the FH a no brainer this week.

There are loads of games in 35, including Pool and Arsenal, and most likely City.
It should be really easy to field 11 in 35 even after a WC full of DGW players. Cos' lets face it, people won't lose ALL SGW players. i.e. Salah. Firm? Mane? VVD?

    1. Now I'm Panicking

WC teams will be chock a block full of players who have 2 DGWs, these players will blank GW35

    2. noquarternt
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 1 month ago

Everyone will have Salah captain, Firmino and Mané/VVD/Robertson, Shaqiri, Walcott, Wilson/Bou attacker. Why would you FH? You already have the players everyone else has.

You'll max out on players for BB34 with a wildcard beforehand. You'll then be able to pick a pure team for 35 that could include picks like Aubameyang that aren't available in 31. The points gain on the non free hitter in that week, should be significantly wider than the points gain against a free hitter this week.

But what I'm saying is, if Ars/City have a DGW in 34, everyone will just keep those assets for 35. Doesn't that make it easier for people to navigate that blank with minimal hits meaning the gain is marginal / equal to those who don't FH?

      2. Hotdogs for Tea
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 1 month ago

Actually no, most FH teams are drifting away from the players people have been bringing in ... Wilson & Walcott have been jettisoned from FH teams, Siggy is injured, Zaha, PVA & Stan have raised their hands, the likes of Kenny, DCL, Niasse, Depoitre, Quaner that are typical bench fodder that people have held may not play ...

There seems to be a big potential up lift to the FH teams over the ‘template’ players that people have been holding or bringing in for 31 🙂

I think you're going to be very disappointed and underwhelmed when 31 finishes and we've got about the same points while you've lost your FH. But it's up to you of course and time will tell.

you're probably right about that, I think I can negotiate both without (although my 31 team is bordering on being Free Hit-able) - I'm playing FH in 38 to downgrade my GW37 bench-boost-bench and bring in differentials with something to play for.

Alternative use of chips is the way to go. The FH in 34 is a good idea and like an extra WC.

Those WCing in 32/33 will struggle to run that team into 37 with all the potential fixtures between the two gameweeks.

Yes, I agree. As I said it is like a second WC.

However you can plan to have double game week players without a Free Hit or WC and this is what people will do to BB and TC in a double. Which you can’t do with the FH.

There are many strategies that will suit different people, but the crowd has spoken and a crowd think strategy has gathered pace, just like a template team etc ... not a bad thing but nevertheless crowd think 🙂

To get 10 as below (no goalie)thinking -4 for
    A Eriksen to Stanislas
B Kane to King (or Wilson if not fit)
    C Kenny to Coleman

    Good moves or anything better?

Loving the forum at the moment - some classic crowd thinking going on. I’m particularly loving the certainty that GW31 will be a low scoring week.

Yes, the average quality of the teams are low, but the average quality of defences is also low, so you could construct an argument that there are going to be more goals on average per team.

For the record, I’m going to FH and hope for some rotation / injuries - a bench could be an incredibly powerful thing this week and one that has been largely ignored on here.

It's alright to have a different opinion, but to say that the current situation is 'crowd thinking' is mad.

What's your FH31 team going to be? Most have been planning for the blank and should have good looking teams not too dissimilar to yours.

This place is an echo chamber, was just trying to point out that fact.

Just because the average score will be low, doesn’t mean that the average score for those fielding 15 will be any lower than a normal gameweek.

I also think there is a bias on here for saving chips. For anyone taking hits and saving the FH, you’ve got to be bloody confident about your GW35 skills.

my team is turd this week, but I feel like I could FH and still get a load of 2-pointers - not because no-one will score, but because the players are unpredictable and I'll pick the wrong ones. It seems like a lottery - the only non-Liverpool players I really 'expect' to do anything IF their team scores are Zaha, Stanislas, Shaq, maybe Mooy/Mounie

      1. Silecro

I think gw31 will actually be high scoring, something like this:

        BOU vs WBA- 4:1
        HUDD vs CRY- 2:2
        STK vs EVE - 1:2
        LIV vs WAT- 3:1

      • 6 Years

It will be a low scoring week because most people have half a team and the players available are not great with the exception of Lpool who everyone will have.

These are facts not crowd thinking.

Does not mean one cannot score highly thou, talking averages.

The games may have quite a few goals with relegation threatened teams playing each other and chasing the game if they go a goal down ... a low scoring week with potentially high scoring games = jam on your bread 🙂

      a few points to consider

a.when`s the earliest the league can be decided as this has a bearing on man city and b. how far the English clubs go in CL will affect the top 4 approach of Liv,chelsea and spurs may benefit as a result ( assuming arsenal`s only focus is now the Europa league)

I actually think a FH now (gw31) makes a lot of sense and then careful planning for the double game weeks from there on to get a decent squad

Hello guys. How would you set this team up for BGW31? I have 2 FT's and contemplating whether to use them both this GW to bring in Stanislas and Shaqiri (would most likely mean GW32 Wildcard for me) or try to set up team so that I could wildcard GW33.

    Pope
    VVD, DANIELS, Ogbonna
    MILIVOJEVIC, WALCOTT, SALAH, Mahrez
    WILSON, FIRMINO, Kane

subs: Adrian --- Hazard, Dunk, Mee --- 2 FT, 0.5 ITB

    A) Hazard & Mahrez -> Stanislas & Shaqiri

Personally I prefer Bournemouth attackers this week, but they could be great as well

I've got 8 players for this gw. With my FT I will get Firmino in for Kun but should I also get rid of Sterling for a -4?

If you do that you will have to bench a GW31 player... not worth it IMO

      Walcott should play.

Getting a high score this week could be a sign that your team is actually very poor.

      Can you link your team?

When you reach 88, your overall score goes back to 1955

Probably a question already asked and answered...

But when will we likely see the official DGW fixtures sitting in the GWs?
A lot of it is assumption and I mind them dragging their heels last year to get them published.

Still all chips so planning is key 🙂

Ah of course. Completely focused on the games on the PL and forgetting there are FA cup games as well.

        Monday it'll be then. Excellent

My case for gw 31 scores:

BOU vs WBA- 4:1 - wba utter garbage atm, no need to explain why 4 goals, but bournemouth's defence is bad enough not to keep cs yet again.

HUDD vs CRY- 2:2 - mounie trashed palace with 2 goals in season opener, probably will be in mood to do so again, zaha coming back will also do good for a couple of palace goals.

STK vs EVE - 1:2 - everton will be easier to deal with than city so stoke will score one (ofc shaq involved), but ultimately lose.

LIV vs WAT- 3:1 - 'pool will not have 2 low scoring games in a row, maybe even more than 3 goals. Watford will still manage to score one through deeney and horrid 'pool defending

      bou-WBA 2-1
      Hud-Cry 1-1
      stk-Eve 1-0
      Liv-Wat 3-0

i hope EVE score; i'm going to unceremoniously dump Wally if he doesn't. He's been stealing oxygen from my team for weeks!

everton scoring is also my biggest concern, wouldn't be suprised at all if stoke keeps cs against them

I'm still confused about FH in 35.

If Ars/City have a DGW in 34, and a game in 35 everyone will just keep those assets for 35.
Plus Pool as people won't lose Salah + 1/2 others.

Doesn't that make it easier for people to navigate that blank with minimal hits meaning the gain is marginal / equal to those who don't FH?

At this point you either have to use FH now or you’ve planned for GW31... its academic...

You could also use the FH on a DGW if you’ve used your TC chip already

Most with FH in 35 will pick WC players from the teams that get in to the FACup semis - maybe Spurs, Man U, Chelsea etc ... these players will double in 34 and 37 and the FH will be used to get Arsenal, City etc that everyone will have anyway if planning for 35 without a FH ... the big issue trying to get a team of doublers in 37 with a WC in 32 🙂
