Sky Sports Focus

We now turn to assess the Sky Sports game, as our focus article looks back at the previous weekend’s action before preparing you for the incoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future line-up plans.

Gameweek 31 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

FixtureMoTM
Man United vs LiverpoolMarcus Rashford
Everton vs BrightonPhil Jagielka
West Ham vs BurnleyChris Wood
Newcastle vs SouthamptonJonjo Shelvey
Huddersfield vs SwanseaFederico Fernandez
West Brom vs LeicesterRiyad Mahrez
Chelsea vs Crystal PalaceWillian
Arsenal vs WatfordPetr Cech
Bournemouth vs Tottenham HotspurSon Heung-min
Stoke vs Man CityDavid Silva

Son Heung-min and David Silva both moved onto five awards for the season and sit alongside Mesut Ozil and Marko Arnautovic in the chasing pack, behind the top-four heavyweights of Mohamed Salah (ten), Kevin De Bruyne (nine), Eden Hazard (eight) and Harry Kane (seven).

Son looks a great option right now.  He’s owned by fewer than 5% of the game and has back-to-back scores of 19 and 17 points. With Harry Kane on the sidelines, a straight swap to the South Korean looks tempting in time for Gameweek 34 when Spurs return to Premier League action.

Gameweek 31 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 45 points or more in bonus for the season

Notes

A poor week overall, with my Saturday captain Theo Walcott being hooked off early and Harry Kane repeating the trick on Sunday.

To compound matters, Ben Davies failed to feature and then Christian Benteke decided to put in a sub-par shift of 45 minutes – it was all frustrating to say the least.

Drifting from the safe options in a bid to make ground is fraught with danger, though, and I was well aware it could backfire. I just wish I had been given a sporting chance this week.

With the Harry Kane injury, I decided to act quickly, like many others, settling on Gabriel Jesus as my replacement.

The allure of the Monday night Stoke City match was too much. Jesus, disappointingly, only managed an assist that evening, but looks a good option to me for the rest of the season.

With Sergio Aguero nursing an injury and Man City progressing into the latter stages of the Champions League, I suspect Jesus will be used more often in the Premier League.

I've just taken a -16 to put out a full team. It's probably a -EV decision but I play to have fun. The rest of you can enjoy your weekend behind the sofa.

I won't be behind the sofa knowing that you probably made a -EV decision. That gives me an advantage, so get behind the sofa yourself!

The small problem with a mid for me is that I lose value (only 0.1 or 0.2 though) if I sell either Son or Mahrez.

For those having burned the TC, whats your gameplan in regards to chip-use? I've come to doubt that free-hitting in a blank GW might not be "our" best way moving forward. I'm looking at a 32WC 34BB and 37FH. Here's my logic:

      - Arsenal, Man City, Burnley, Newcastle, Swansea and West Ham looks set to have a DGW in 34 but also a match in 35. Meaning, players from these teams can fill your BB gw34 team, and at the same time cover your ass in 35 if you dont opt for the free hit.
      - Wildcarding in 32 will free up 2 transfers ahead of 34, meaning you can use 2 ft to fill up your BB squad in 34 and 1 ft to patch your 35 team, or reversed, 1ft ahead of 34 and 2ft ahead of 35.

Using this logic means that your WC-team in 32 should consist of 9 players outta Arse, City, Burnley, NUFC, Swans and WHam, as this should give you the possibility to field 11 players in 35. 9 players from those teams might seem like a lot, but most teams in 34 should consist of a lot of these players given that Arse and Swans have some of the kindest fixtures, atleast 1 cityplayer seems sensible, and burnley, swans, Nufc and Wham offers some of the friendliest budgetoptions.

      What you're potentially giving up:
      - The "ideal" BB34 team:
CFC an MUFC are amongst the DGWteams with the best fix in 34, and they also look likely to have a dgw in 37. Ideally you'd prob want opt for 5 players from these teams in. Free-hitting in 37 would prob make it more sensible to opt for 3 players from these teams, and possibly also ignoring 2-3 other key targets from other teams.
Conclusion: Your BB34-team should still be able to swing it, but you wont be holding many tickets for the top price in the lottery.

      - The "ideal" 35 team:
Those free-hitting in 35 can mix it up and pick their poison for this trimmed down GW. The teams looking to have the strongest fix in 35 are Arsenal (WHAM), City (SWA), Liverpool (wba). The other matches consists of teams were predicting the results is pure guesswork.
Ahead of GW35 its fairly easy to have a team consisting of Salah, 3 arsenal, 2 City, 2-3 players from the lesser gw35-teams and 2ft's to get greater lfc or city coverage.
Conclusion: Again, you wont have the luxury of cherrypicking the exact 11 you would prefer to field this GW, and up against those free-hitting you'll probably loose some ground. But you'll stil field a team stronger than all of those not free-hitting, and will still have a fighting chance against those who do.

      The potential "pay off":
Those of us that have burned the 3C are dreading the dgw in 37, as this is the GW were players with all their chips still in play looks set to capitalize and potentially gain an extra 20-30 point from a Lukaku, Kane, Hazard double haul. If they don't use their free-hit in 31, their road to climbing seems like a written path with a 32/33WC, 34BB, 35FH and 37TC. It's all very sensible, but it leaves us who've burned the TC a way to mitigate the points loss of not having the TC at hand.
1: This strategy will lead to a 32team designed to make a lot of every single gw in 32-36+38 and the very most of 37. Those with all their chips left will have a team designed to score big in 34 and 35, and possibly in 37. Its likely that these players will build their core around players from MUFC, CFC, Spurs and Leicester. Leicester is the only team with great fixtures in 32,33 and 36. CFC lack form, Spurs have to adjust to the loss of Kane, and Utd currently lack standout options amongst their attacking prospects. With this being the circumstances they will have to devote all their FT's to the double gameweeks, while those who FH in 37 will have more freedom to make "the right move" regardless of 37.
Conclusion: This should be worth some points in the byweeks of the blanks and doubles.
2: In GW37 "we" will able to take all injuries and details in to account when setting up our team, while those triplecapping will not, as they designed their teams 4-5 gws in advance. We'll also have the luxury of putting more money into our starting XI, possibly as much as 1-2million if we choose to absolutely decimate our bench. 3 Spurs, CFC, UTD and 2 LCFC is very achievable, with all of them offering tasty doublefixtures. This luxury might prove to be godsent given that Kane might be back, Utd's go to guy might be more easy to pinpoint, and we'll be able to know exactly which teams are fighting for their lives and who's started planning their summer vacations.
Conclusion: A FH-team in 37 should be able to compete with those triplecapping unless the standout captaincy option goes absolutely batshit crazy.

      Overall conclusion:
I believe that a 32WC-34BB-37FH is the most sensible strategy for those of us who've used the TC. Choosing the same strategy as those who have'nt used it is the same as rolling over and leaving yourself vulnerable in 37. Choosing the other route leaves you slightly vulnerable in 34 and 35 but boosts your overall chances of climbing in 32,33,36 and 38.

      *Caveat:
This logic is based on the favourites pushing through and the doubles landing in the gameweeks which the comunity have deemed most likely. Any cupset might skew the logic of this approach, but hopefully we'll have the details ready before having to commit. The cup games of most importance to this strategy seems to be LCFC -CFC and Swansea-Spurs, as CFC is the favourite with the biggest task and a cupset at Liberty could swing Man City and Swansea in for a DGW37 ahead of Spurs and Bighton.

          • 13 Years
          6 years, 1 month ago

          Yup!
But thats also partly why the logic is sound.
The WC32-BB34-FH37strategy looks to focus on players from the dgw-teams that have a fix in 35. Many of these teams have good fixtures in 36 and 38. And those who dont can be moved strategically with the ft's at hand.

Here's how I'm looking for the WC next week:
      Dea Gea (Hennessey)
      Monreal-Vertonghen-Maguire-Chrsitensen (Fernandez)
      Salah-Mahrez-Son-D.Silva (Doucoure)
      Aubameyang-Firmino (Barnes)

      Thoughts please!!!

downgrade maguire to burnely def, then upgrade Doucoure to Willian

Doucoure doesn't play in the doubles

I really want to go Mahrez to Zaha, but I want to get him back on a wildcard which will cost me 0.1m and Kane is bound to drop 0.1m before tomorrow so this move could cost me 0.2m.

Alternatively I could swap Kane for a striker and lose no TV, but all the strikers are rubbish. What to do?

Get Zaha if you want him. I would say that Mounie isn't rubbish. Rondon, King and Benteke are worth considering too. If you don't have 11 players you could do both! But just get Xaha if you want him.

I thinking the 0.2m swing could hinder me come my WC and I'm not expecting big points this week anyway, thats why I'm taking no hits.

Will that 0.2 earn you more points than Buying Zaha this week? You could be right, but only because Zaha isn't a standout option this week. That's why I said, if YOU want him, you should get him. But as I said above and below, their are still decent options in other positions 🙂

I can't see his expected return being much more than many others out there. We're talking an extra point or something on some players. Players like Salah can be expected to outscore Zaha by, say, 3-5 points. That's what makes a player stand-out.

It depends on who we are comparing Zaha to, though. He doesn't stand-out against Stanislas, but he does (a little bit) against players like Doucoure, who can't be expected to score much more than 2 (say 2.5 vs Zaha's 4.0). Still, 1.5pts isn't very much.

But we know how good a player he is. He can really hurt teams. Looking at the respective fixtures I think Zaha could easily at least keep pace with Stanislas. He's explosive, and I don't think Huddersfield are all that strong in the full-back positions. Plus, Loftus-Cheek and Sakho are back. I think they'll be going into the game with more confidence

Want Zaha but don't want to lose sterling on wc next week (value too). It means picking from mounie, Tekkers or pva (as above).

      A. Just get Zaha

This may be a very underwhelming week. This is the part of the season where Benteke or Rondon could actually save their clubs. Both are decent differentials and Tekkers more chance of a haul of the 2 imo. I have considered it myself but have 10 players and don't want too much surgery going forward having already used my WC early Feb

Everyone is talking about stans. I would want him but my only way to do so is by taking out mahrez which i want for next gw and will lose value too. My initial plan was to get a striker instead of Kane.

U think its a risk to vo without him or try again and fit him in?

I see, and you want to use the FT next week for someone else. I'll be doing the same actually, except selling Eriksen for Stan later today.

Unless you can sell another midfielder, sell a forward or defender for someone else. Sounds like you already want to sell Kane. Plenty of forward options to choose from 🙂

Same issue as me above only I want Zaha ( I already have Stan). I'm not feeling any of the striker options but the 0.2m swing could make a big difference come the WC next GW. I'm starting to think its not worth it for 1 week, 1 week which is probably gonna be low scoring anyway.
