Sky Sports Focus

Our attention now turns to the Sky Sports game, as we check in with last weekend’s action before preparing you for a bumper upcoming round of matches that could play a significant part in the overall standings.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before detailing the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 35 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

FixtureMoTM
Everton vs LiverpoolGeorginio Wijnaldum
Watford vs BurnleyWill Hughes
Brighton vs HuddersfieldAlex Pritchard
Chelsea vs West HamJoe Hart
Bournemouth vs Crystal PalaceLuka Milivojevic
West Brom vs SwanseaChris Brunt
Leicester vs NewcastleJamaal Lascelles
Man City vs Man UnitedPaul Pogba
Arsenal vs SouthamptonDanny Welbeck
Stoke vs SpursChristian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen was at it again, earning his second MoTM award in as many weeks. The Dane has amassed 34 points over that period and is now the fourth highest-scoring midfielder overall.

Paul Pogba’s brace also caught our eye ahead of the Double Gameweek. The Frenchman has shown us glimpses of his Fantasy potential with several double-figure hauls this season and now looks a valid and cheaper alternative to team-mates Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.

Gameweek 35 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 50 points or more in bonus for the season.

Notes

I moved up one whole place, so I guess I have to count that as a victory. Overall, It was a low-scoring week across the board, but I had hoped for more given my use of three transfers.

Speaking of which, I’m pretty happy with them, as of the trio I sold, Ben Davies and Roberto Firmino didn’t start, while Theo Walcott blanked.

The incoming Pascal Gross got me two points and was only denied an assist when Jonas Lossl was deemed to have scored an own goal, while Harry Kane’s ghost goal meant he also went close to a decent return. Thankfully, Wilfried Zaha carried the rest with a ten-point return.

My big decision this week is who to bring in at the expense of Gabriel Jesus.

I need a player from the red side of Manchester for captaincy reasons moving forward, and there is a case to be made for all three of my potential suitors: Lukaku, Sanchez and Pogba.

I currently see the Belgian striker as the safest pick, but given my desire to break into the top 100, I’m strongly considering the other two as altenatives.

Sanchez has been very good in his last two matches and is owned by the fewest people. He’s also the most expensive and therefore unobtainable for most in one transfer. All of these reasons are currently pushing me in his direction.

Captain Plan

Sat 14th April – Mohamed Salah
Sun 15th April – Romelu Lukaku/Alexis Sanchez/Paul Pogba
Mon 16th April – None
Tues 17th April – Harry Kane
Weds 18th April – Romelu Lukaku/Alexis Sanchez/Paul Pogba
Thurs 19th April – Andreas Christensen

@RAGABOLLY (and anyone else who wants to help)
    I wanted to get your advice on this? as you said you don't believe in 'cover' means I don't need to show you the rest of my team;

Please pick best trio to go with; DGW (BB active)

    A). Alexis, Mahrez, £5.5m mid, K.Long (for -8 hit)
B). Alexis, Sonny, Gross, K.Long (for -4 hit)
C). Pogba, Mahrez, Gross, Alonso (NO HIT)

      i’d go C,

      Alonso should outscore long
Groß should do better than most 5.5 mids
so then you have to hope sanchez outscores pogba by 8 and whatever points you’re down by alonso and gros just to break even.

      C easily for me

If we hear Salah is benched~ would it be worth starting Gross over him?

There are probably plenty of people who would say 15~20 mins of Salah would be far better than 160+ mins of Gross.

So this may have been discussed elsewhere but here's a HT on it.

Liverpool's draw gives them the home leg on Tuesday after GW35 trip to WBA on the Saturday - 3 days earlier.

That means there's four days before Liverpool face Stoke in GW36 and then another 4 days before the second leg with in Italy.

Does this make GW36 more viable for Salah and GW35 more of a risk?

I'd say so, which is probably not what non-Free Hitters for GW35 want to hear.

Are Salah owners now going to retain for GW36, selecting a strong first sub with the FH in GW35?

    Thoughts?

Think it works out well for those on a FH. WBA is the early KO so we'll likely be able to find a leaked lineup before the deadline

More viable as GW36 was the full on rotation spot if it was Wed-Tues ties. Think Klopp will do part rotations now like in the autumn. The front 3 should all atleast get the majority of mins

I think if you kept Salah through his no-show last week and are free hitting in 35 you'll probably be keeping him til the end of the season.

A good first sub will cover him in 36 worse case scenario, and if the golden boot race is as much as an incentive as we think then can see him playing that week anyway for 60-70 mins.

      CL draw hasn't changed anything.

If you've sold him / never somehow owned him then wait and see for leaked team news. Nice get out of jail that Anfield Express has turned out to be.

I think the draw has changed it considerably.

If Liverpool's first leg was Wednesday and second leg Tuesday, the gap around GW36 would be 3 days either side.

That's made a big difference to his chances of playing GW36 for me.

Plus, with the home leg first, there's even a chance that the tie could be almost put to bed.

I don't think for people in our position - own Salah, FH in 35 - it changes that much at all personally. We always knew GW36 was a risky fixture when they got through to the semis. I don't think 2 or 3 days would make a difference to Klopp's resting plans. Far more dependent on first leg result.

Liverpool play early in 35 - good chance we get leaked team news as well. And in 36 I'll be refreshing that Twitter feed again with a plan to cover him with my first sub (either Mili or a good defender) - should be fine.

          I agree completely.

I was considering Salah > Alli/Pogba to help fund Kane but now I think I'll hold. I have my FH in GW35 so that doesn't bother me but I want Salah this week and 38, if possible. having him in 36 would tip the scale to me keeping so I think I will.

I agree it makes GW35 worse for Salah now. As someone who owns Salah but won’t be using the FH in GW35, this worries me.

I’ll have to make a decision nearer the time, but it may now mean I will dump Salah from GW35 onwards potentially.

Yeah that’s a potential option. As I said below, maybe it’s worth risking that he starts and then reassessing after the first leg and before GW36.

      Yeah, I think so.

The Champion's League game is huge. They'll want 3rd over 4th, but they can always bring Salah off the bench against tired legs if they are struggling to break the Baggies.

Looks good for the Stoke game. I'm sure Kane will be closer to Salah's goal total by then, so he'll be hungry for goals. 4 days rest is enough, especially if Klopp takes him off a bit earlier.

If this means that Salah is more likely to play in GW36 and less likely to play in GW35, then this is a win for those that hav kept Salah and a loss for those that sold Salah (assuming everyone is playing their FH in 35).

Salah sellers will prefer that he plays in 35 since they can FH him in and misses 36 since they won’t have him. Salah keepers will prefer that he plays in 36 (since they will have him) and it won’t matter to them whether he plays in 35 since they can rely on the Anfield Express twitter account for the team before deadline and decide whether to include him (if on FH).

"Are Salah owners now going to retain for GW36, selecting a strong first sub with the FH in GW35?"

Surely the better spread of funds for the free hit in GW35 would be to remove Salah entirely if we find out from Anfield express before the deadline that he isn't starting?

Its probably wise to draft 2 squads for the free hit this week. One involving Salah and one without. They can then be deployed accordingly.

I honestly don't think Salah gets benched. Maybe his minutes are managed a little but does he need 90 to do damage? Stories over the past week show just how much he and Kane both care a lot about the golden boot and he'll want to play every game.

Pool have the early Saturday slot in both 35 and 36. With the Pool leaked line ups being so accurate, leaving transfers late would probably solve any rotation problems.

The problem with the ‘good first sub’ scenario in case a no show from Salah is that many of those who WCed for 34 don’t really have a ‘good first sub’.

It is now a big decision all round for everyone ... luckily I sold last week so it makes the decision a bit easier, but if I held Salah now I would not really have a clear strategy.

The irony is that many will be watching for ‘that tweet’ 😉

Jurgen Klopp ahead of Bournemouth match: “We've had a longer part of the week to prepare. Makes a big difference. We have enough time for a completely normal line-up”

I guess "longer part of the week" in this statement means "4 days" right? So it matters for Klopp having 4 days before/after the match instead of 3 days apparently. This hugely increases (taking the golden boot race into account as well) the possibility of Salah starting against Stoke and playing at least 60-70 mins.

For FH35, Anfield Express to rescue if they are not exposed until that.

I think swapping Salah for something like Eriksen make sense for GW 35 free hitters. Salah has 8.8 points per match average, while Eriksen has 5.7. If we disregard GW35, expected points from Salah (4 games left) will be 35.2, Eriksen (6 games left) - 34.2. So 1 point difference in Salah favour, but Salah may be rotated or have minutes limited, while Spurs tend to end season strongly with minimum rotation risk.

That's different. Never considered that angle. Wildcarded in 32, built towards dgw 34 with 14 dgw players and playing BB, FH in 35 and covered for dgw 37. We are almost identical points, interesting to see the result!

I doubt it's conscious and deliberate, but these Hot Topics always seem to be written with a "FH35 is superior, the rest of you are buggered" slant.

If Salah is less likely to play in GW35 than 36 due to fewer days rest, then that's massive for non-Free Hitters. The FH35 brigade were counting on bringing him back in for that one gameweek only!

If every man and his dog has Salah in GW35 in which he played, then was rested for 36, that would be the ideal scenario for the FHC.

I think a lot more will depend on how close the Golden Boot race is after this gameweek

Kane begging for that goal and getting it has appeared to have motivated Salah even more. I shall decide then

BTW I am expecting the margin to widen this gameweek

As FPL managers we tend to over-think things.

Several players have been ditched at various points of the season because FPL managers anticipated rotation - Salah (after GW2), Sterling, Sanè, Otamendi, Son and it’s just not happened. Points have been needlessly thrown away trying to predicted what these managers are going to go and the truth is you just can’t predict it.

Salah is the best player in the game and he’s staying for me. Klopp will want momentum going into these games and to finish as high as possible he’s not going to throw the kids and stiffs out and ruin that going into the semi-finals.

The draw couldn't have been any worse for people using the FHC in 35.

Wenger will rotate like mad in 35 as he's desperate, if Klopp does the same in 35, City aside, who do you pick to build a side? Newcastle, Stoke, Everton, Watford, Palace?

We really needed the CL game to be on the Wed, Sat - Tue puts the West Brom game at massive risk of rotation so he can be fresh on the Tuesday.

Looks like the Bournmouth and Stoke game look good for starts with the West Brom game being the one he may protect his key men in.

Not ideal at all for GW35.

something i havent seen mentioned on here - a lot depends on chelsea's next three games, all of which are away.

if chelsea drop say 4-6 points in the 34 + swansea away in 35 (very possible and i say this as a chelsea fan), then pool could effectively have top 4 clinched by 35.

absolutely no reason to risk a salah injury at that point, wrap him up
