Fantasy Eliteserien 2018 – Gameweek 10 Preview

Like Boxing Day in England, May 16th is a big celebration of football in Norway.

As is tradition, the big teams get home turf advantage along with some small derby fixtures.

Most significantly for Fantasy managers all games kick off at the same time  –Wednesday 5:00pm, to provide a rare action packed 90 minutes in the season where all teams play.

Gameweek 10 matches

Bodø/Glimt – Tromsø

Tromsø are the first thing that comes to mind for the term “home team”, and have looked bleak without Åsen in their midfield of late. Åsen was a surprise absence against Lillestrøm as he’s been training with the team, but he  should be back in the squad for this game.

On this special day they are away in a classical Battle of the North, with a Bodø/Glimt team slowly turning their season around with six points in their last four games. There’s no must have players here, but Opseth has started scoring again for Bodø/Glimt, and might be on the cusp of a decent scoring run.

Brann – FK Haugesund

Brann have had a record breaking season opening, but are starting to show the strain. They already have their usual left-back out with injury, and this weekend right-back Teniste was carried off with what looked like a nasty neck/back injury, later turning out to be “only” a broken hand and a small spinal fracture. The ranks are thin, and we must wonder how long their squad can take the pressures.

However, they should still be able to muster a powerful XI when they host surprise contender Haugesund in Bergen, where Akintola and Gytkjær are still running on great form and pushing their team up.

Teniste is likely to miss out on a couple of games (no update on how long he’ll be out yet), so it’s probably time to shift him. Barmen is also likely to miss out.

Kristiansund BK – Ranheim

Kristiansund are the tight game specialists, rarely losing or winning by more than a single goal. Bamba scored again in their weekend run out, and is a striker to consider choice if he can keep a cool head.

The big in-form team though, is the still underestimated Ranheim, who won yet again at the weekend.  They are now the top scoring team in Eliteserien and their best picks remain the same  –  Tønne and Reginiussen – who are punishing non-owners on a weekly basis.

Molde – Strømsgodset

Molde are still struggling for form, as they host another side that was well fancied pre-season but has failed to deliver so far.

In fact, Strømsgodset are in a far worse shape, but did show signs of improvement as they hit the woodwork six times in their 2-1 loss to Sarpsborg 08 last time out. Ulland Andersen once again picked up bonus points, and his form looks to be improving, while Pedersen remains the league’s top scorer so far, having some big chances last game as well.

Molde have been hard to pin down, but Braut Håland still looks a viable option to consider.

Odd – Sandefjord

Odd had been the team in form, but Ranheim put a stop to that at the weekend, routing them 3-1.  This clash with dejected Sandefjord should revive their spirits though, with Rashani and the multi-talented Broberg looking the hot prospects at the moment. Broberg is a bit of a fill-the-hole player, having played up front, in midfield and may even be fielded as a central defender.

Rosenborg – Lillestrøm

Rosenborg once again delivered a 1-0 win last time out, but look incapable of killing off a game with that important second goal. Things did look better against Stabæk but without more firepower they will continue to struggle against strong teams.

This time around they are up against an old rival in Lillestrøm and Rosenborg need to up their game if they want to emerge victorious. On current form last season’s champions may struggle to contain a counter-attacking Lillestrøm side.

Picks to consider are the Rosenborg back line and keeper, as well as midfielder and sometimes striker Knudtzon from Lillestrøm. Hovland looks like an excellent budget pick, who rustled up another three bonus points at the weekend.

Sarpsborg 08 – IK Start

Sarpsborg’s form has improved, with their stopper Falch and striker Agger, who tends to be favoured for home games,  looking the best of their picks.

In contrast, Start are still in the doldrums and do not provide any players worth considering currently.

Vålerenga – Stabæk

Stabæk looked decent against Rosenborg, but have a tall order as they visit high flying Vålerenga. This game looks to be full of  goals, with top picks including Ejuke and top striker Johnson from Vålerenga, as well as the budget gem Brynhildsen from Stabæk.

Teniste in a lot of pain, chewing pain killers and feeling dizzy. He'll be out a couple of week I guess.

Barmen and Heltne Nilsen back in training today. Braaten will probably will in at RB. Kristiansen doing alternative training, when he's back soon Rolantsson will probably shift to RB from LB.

Thanks for the update. I have Heltne Nilsen as first sub this week but hope to play him in GW11

The Brann coach was suggesting they have a few knocks, so I'm not 100% sure the likes of Barmen and Heltne Nilsen will play. Should be fit for the weekend if they're not ready for tomorrow I guess.

I reckon only one of Heltne Nilsen and Barmen will play tomorrow. Both left today's practice with icing around their ankle/knee.

Barmen most likely to be spared in my opinion.

Great round up as usual, many thanks.
I fancy Mortensen to do well with a bonus point and may be a goal or assist against Start. He has played well but not many fantasy points this season. I may use him as K before shifting him out to use the cash in mid field. going 442 until WC

For me Falch is the only great pick from then, with Mortensen as a differential pick. I don't think he has a lot of goals in him, but he's nailed on with good fixtures.

I don't agree with Agger as mentioned in the article, too much rotation threat for me. I would definitely consider him if he was nailed on.

    Barli Linde
    Wormgoor Rolantsson Tønne Nilsen Kitolano
Helland (c) Åsen Akintola Rashani Sæter
    Johnson Skålevik Pedersen

I think I'll save my transfer this round. Helland will get his last chance. Planning to get a Rosenborg defender and perhaps Ulland Andersen for Helland next round. He has looked good the last couple of games (and is only on 5,9%).

My scoutpick has Johnson as the "safe" option. Personally I'm punting Rashani with the notion that the Ranheim-game was in form vs. more in form and that Odd are on the rise. Rashani one of 3-4 players central to their resurgence.

Brann should be a safe place to pick too, but I think Haugesund are being underestimated despite their tremendous form, so not as certain there

Hellend. I have no idea about Norwegian football though trying to play blind. I see him as a kdb type points scorer looking at his points from last year, without ever seeing him kick a ball last year could have been a fluke

I think I'm doing Teniste > Rosenborg defence.. Who should I go for?

Hedenstad, Meling, and Reginiussen all look good. Or maybe Hovlund?

      1. Flaming Flamingo
        • 7 Years

        Hedenstad imo.

      2. Northman

Hovlund seems solid at the moment, and is also the cheaper option. But at this point it seems either option is good

      3. Niemi
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 11 months ago

I've gone Hovland because I think he's good value, but Hedenstad definitely the player with highest point potential.

After Reginiussen's price rise from 6.5 to 7.0, I think it's between Hedenstad and Hovland as the best pick from Rosenborg's defence. Hovland for value, Hedenstad for assist potential.

      4. MTPockets
          5 years, 11 months ago

          Hovlund (disclaimer I have him)
Just think at some point Rosenborg will start scoring more goals, and pricier mid/fwd may be wanted.

If Rosenborg start scoring more goals maybe we'll want the assister for those goals.. but I take your point. My tendency is to go cheaper at the back so he's the option I'm looking at

            1. Niemi
              • 9 Years

Also consider that Hovland is playing really well at the moment. Getting a lot of praise and bonus points. There was definitely a lot of people doubting him when he was signed, but he's definitely strengthened the Rosenborg defence and made that CB spot his own.

            2. MTPockets
                5 years, 11 months ago

Let's assume both Hedenstad and Hovlund have same ppg of 5.
(that's Hedenstad's current ppg, Hovlund's first game was GW4 but currently on 6.2 ppg due to cs/bps).

                Hedenstad ppg/price = 0.70
                Hovlund ppg/price = 0.81

Hedenstad had 5 assists last season. Currently on 3 but I'll assume he gets another 5.
Will ignore extra bps as Hovlund seems to be getting bps so may net out.

Optimistically extrapolating current ppg for remaining 21 games and adding Hedenstad's extra 15pts:

                Hedenstad ppg = 5.71 and ppg/price = 0.81
                Hovlund ppg = 5 and ppg/price = 0.81

i.e. Hedenstad needs more than 5 additional assists from remaining 21 games to better Hovlund in ppg/price.

Admittedly Hedenstad could score, or other stuff happen - but that's one way I look at comparisons.
Maximising budget and ppg/price didn't actually prove so necessary last season though to be fair.

Hedenstad has a bigger share of set pieces this year, so I think he's likely to end up with more assists than last season.

I do agree with you, Hovland offers more value, but it's all depending on if you really need the extra cash. At the moment you can get a very good team for less than 100.

                  1. MTPockets
                      5 years, 11 months ago

Right now I agree on cash. Could prove the case all season, but expect at least some bigger hitters to pick up form. Two other factors for me are:
                      1) Hansen - if Molde keep dropping clean sheets I'm considering him so wouldn't want to spending so much on def
                      2) Wildcard - I've already used mine so can't fundamentally change the squad easily if form changes

I'd play Wormgoor and Tonne. I have them in every week because they play really far forward and are very attacking.

                Don't know anything about Hopmark.

You've got the attack right. Not sure on midfield someone else will have to help out there

Yeah. Wormgoor is Brann's penalty taker and Tønne is playing LW in a 4-3-3. Those two are really hard to bench. Brann also the best defense in the league, together with Rosenborg.

I'd consider Hedenstad from Rosenborg as he's on a lot of corners and some free kicks, and because of that has massive assist potential. Alternative is Hovland as a "value" pick. Doesn't offer much besides potential bonus points.

Midfield looks decent. Personally think someone like Brynhildsen offers more value than Aasmundsen. I don't rate Zachariassen highly as a fantasy prospect at the moment, blanked in 7/9 gameweeks as well. I would rather look at someone like Åsen, Nguen, Ejuke, Gjertsen, Koomson or Knudtzon.

Front line is perfect, very template.

Tønne is easy to bench for me. No goal or assist in away matches this season. 4 shots and 1 key pass in 4 away games. Ranheim had a mediocre away record last year (5-5-5, 20 goals scored, 23 against, 2 CS). They have only gotten 1 CS so far. Kristiansund have only failed to score in 3 out of the last 19 home matches. I don't see a reason to back Tønne in this game.

Fair points. Ranheim definitely have more threat at home than away, but he's basically an extra midfielder. As long as you're not stacked with Rosenborg and Brann defenders I would play him.

Perhaps look at Brynhildsen instead of Aasmundsen? A bit of a rotation risk, but he's a bit cheaper and offers more attacking threat than Aasmundsen. I'd also consider Ejuke or Asen over Zachariassen, though the latter does have great fixtures. Woormgoor's probably the best player in the game, so definitely try and find room for him in your starting XI. All in all the team looks very good though 🙂

Strikers look good. Defence looks nice too. Midfield could get better. Asen in for Zachariassen maybe.
Always start Wormgoor and Tonne. Wormgoor is on pens and Tonne plays as a winger. Rotate the other defenders.

I do not have Skålevik, but I have Koomson Acosta and Wormgoor. Is Skålevik essential? :O rising in price so much. It’s hard to transfer him in as I already have three Brann.

He's hot right now, but his goal conversion rate is 50% at the moment. That's not sustainable. Unless he starts getting more shots, his returns will drop.

I wouldn't bother when you have those three.

Brann have a high pressure play style, so the striker is running a lot during the game. Skålevik is often subbed early, as he's often starting to tire late on and the coach wants to keep up the high pressure. He's definitely not irreplaceable, and I think the system is more important to the coach than Skålevik as an individual player.

The last few games his striker rival has been injured, but he's coming back from injury now. Skålevik is definitely first choice, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's getting subbed after 60-75 minutes in the games going forward as well.

Good team. Probably time to get rid of Bendtner soon. Going to the World Cup after GW12, and not doing much. Good fixture this week, so you could probably keep him this GW.

                    “Essentials”

Wormgoor, def, on pens, nailed on in a very good team/defense.

Tønne, listed as a defender but plays LW. Gets attacking returns and plays for a team in form. Reginiussen from Ranheim seems like a good pick, in great form atm.

RBK defender, Hedenstad, Hovland or Reginiussen. Also consider Hansen GK. expensive for a reason.

Akintola, has increased in price but still a great value pick. Gytkjær also worthy of consideration from FKH. Good fixtures after Brann.

I also think Pedersen is a must have (at least from gw12). 8 goals so far.

Stay away from Bendtner. Expensive, out of form and off to World Cup soon.

                    Hope it helps.

Allsvenskan is possibly the most casual I've ever played a FF game and I'm doing the best in it compared to my others 😆 keep bandwagoning and getting jammy points, a surreal feeling making transfers with actual upside for once

I've also gone for high-selection picks, but have scored big on starting rosters, there is a significant Home vs. Away team advantage in this league it seems, to the point where I'm getting payed in points for running even the worst teams players when they are at home.

Asen and Knudtzon are now flagged because of "lårskade". What does that mean and what are their chances of starting in midweek? I could bring in Rashani for a hit to replace either one of them as the Odd mid faces a leaky Sandefjord...

Think both will start. All teams will be out 15 minutes before the deadline so if possible I'd certainly wait until then with transfers.

Regarding Sandefjord, they may be in poor form but they don't actually look that leaky after sacking their manager. Only conceded once per match in the last 3.

For newcomers, here's a list of players I feel like are essential or at least very good picks.

Rosenborg and Brann have the best defences, so I would say getting at least one at the back from each is essential.

Wormgoor is the standout pick from Brann. He's the penalty taker, he's getting some bonus points and a threat from set pieces as well.

Rolantsson could potentially play as a LW in a 433, but he's currently playing LB because of injuries. Teniste, the first choice RB, is likely to be out for a while so Rolantsson will probably be shifted to RB when the first choice LB is back soon. I don't think Rolantsson is worth 7.0 as a full back, but definitely an option if he starts playing LB again. Teniste and Kristiansen are currently injured, but they should be first choice when fit. Acosta also an okay pick if you want to double up.

Hedenstad and Hovland is the standout picks from the Rosenborg defence for me. Hedenstad is on a lot of set pieces, and therefore is a likely assister. Not as likely for bonus though, as he's not a standout player, but his set piece delivery is good. Premium price tag though. Meling and Reginiussen also has some attacking threat, but at a similar price as Hedenstad I think he's the best pick. Hovland is much cheaper at 6.2. Less attacking threat than the others, but he's playing well and has been receiving some bonus lately. Good alternatives if you don't want to pay 7.0 or more. Hansen, the GK, also a decent option.

Tønne should also be nailed on in every squad. He's a winger categorised as a 4.5 (now 4.8) defender. He's nailed on as a LW in a 433 and is the major attacking threat for Ranheim together with Reginiussen in midfield. Probably not likely to get a lot of clean sheets, but always likely to pop up with an assist or a goal. Should be a starter every week IMO.

There's also a bunch of other decent picks in defence. Nilsen at Tromsø is a very attacking wingback. Nilsen at Haugesund is playing OOP as a CM or a LM, and also one of their better players (likely for bonus). Stølås at Haugesund is a very attacking full back, has a great left foot and is on a lot of set pieces. Haugesund's fixtures is turning for the better very soon. Ruud is also on a lot of set pieces for Odd, and their fixtures are pretty good at the moment. Cheap options includes Haakenstad at 4.2 from Lillestrøm, and Grorud and Eleftheriou at Sandefjord for 3.9. The cheap options are no more than 5th defender bench fodders IMO, but they should play most games.

The midfield spots are a bit harder to nail down, there's very few players you can expect returns from every week. I personally think Akintola is a must, although his next two fixtures are against the two best teams in the league. He's gone from 5.5 to 6.5, but still good value. Reginiussen is also a good option, I think his output is unsustainable but still offers decent value.

There's a lot of decent midrange picks. Ejuke and Nguen are very hot and cold players. They can haul one week, then blank three gameweeks in a row. Players like Åsen and Koomson should regularly pick up points. Gjertsen was another popular pick last season, going on a crazy run. He's missed a lot of games this season, but he's been back the last two gameweeks without doing much. Could be a good differential is he find some form.

I like Knudtzon as a differential, he's now actually the third highest scoring midfielder and has gone under the radar for much of the season. He's playing OOP up front and has been picking up returns in 6/9 gameweeks so far. I've noticed he's flagged this GW, not sure why yet. Rashani is also another popular differential at the moment, after a couple of good games and good fixtures coming up. I'll put him in the same box as Ejuke and Nguen, very hot and cold. Could be worth a punt now as he has good fixtures and decent form.

I'll also mention some of the more expensive midfielders that are currently "sleepers". Helland, Ulland Andersen and Jradi has disappointed so far this season, after previously being some of the highest scoring players. Helland is definitely overpriced, but he's started to look better lately and should see some returns. Is it enough to justify his price? Not sure. Ulland Andersen has started to come alive lately, and I wouldn't be surprised if everyone's jumping at him soon. His fixtures are turning for the better very soon.

Up front the template seems to be Pedersen, Johnson and Skålevik. They are the top scoring players in the game, and obviously have been doing really well lately. Skålevik is also excellent value. His goal conversion rate is 50% so far though, so it will be interesting to see if he can keep it up. Outside picks are Bamba, Gytkjær and Opseth. All of them offer good value. A Haugesund double up might be too much, and I would definitely recommend Akintola over Gytkjær.

Two differential picks are Marengo and Braut Håland. Marengo is a winger playing for Brann, sadly he's not classified as a midfielder. He's playing really well at the moment, and I would definitely have considered him if he was a midfielder in the game. Slight rotation threat when everyone's fit again, but undroppable in current form. Braut Håland is one of the biggest Norwegian talents currently, and is Molde's first choice striker at 17 years. A player that could be rotated every now and then, but definitely has the potential to haul. Also likely to be sold to a bigger league in the summer, so might not be staying for long.

Hopefully that's enough info to get newcomers started!

Forgot to mention the cheap midfield picks. Both Berntsen and Brynhildsen excellent cheap picks, I rate Brynhildsen as the best of them. Both playing in very advanced roles, and Brynhildsen is probably the breakthrough player of the season so far. He's been the major attacking threat at Stabæk so far.

I like that team. I would play Tønne over Stølås this week though, Brann is the best team in the league at the moment.

And remember that the main difference is that in FES the bonus is decided differently. Otherwise it's pretty easy to pick up 🙂

Thanks for the info. Already going through fpl withdrawals and just joined the league.

Looking at the first few games of the season and there have been a lot of CSs. Based on that i have set up a bottom heavy team using Rosenberg and Brann with the template attack. Do you think that the defenders will continue to dominate or will the CSs fade off?

Really hard to say. Both Brann and Rosenborg should continue to keep clean sheets, but probably not at the rate they have been doing so far. That would be insane!

Thats what i thought. But currently have Wormgoor, Rolantsson, Hovland, Hedenstad and Tonne. And plan on 5 at the back to start with while the CSs are flowing.

I think that's a fair plan, it's not like there's a lot of expensive players worth buying elsewhere either.

Ok so i think im set on a big defence. So last decison is:
                                Hanson + Rolantsson + Lokberg
                                or
                                Falch + Acosta + Asen

I think the latter is better if you already got Hedenstad and Hovland. If Rosenborg's attack starts ticking you might want a midfielder or attacker sooner rather than later.

Bendtner is finally out of my team, what a waste of money. Also sold Teniste.

In comes Skårevik and Reginibussen. Johnson K.

Only missing Reginiussen (Ranheim) of these three myself. Considering taking a -4 for him, but they are away this GW, so might hold for now. Bendtner is still in my team, but that's what you get for being both an Arsenal and a Rosenborg fan!

                      on 105,2 now

makes me remember last season where I ended up just below 110 mill
last third of the season I could get all the players I wanted (but not all the points...)
will it be the same this season ??

Very aggressive price swings imo. I must have been the only Eleftheriou owner. Zero % ownership, who but me could have sold him 😆 I lost 0.6 on him in a just a couple of weeks 🙁

Linde isn't going to the world cup. That should be the last one that could have gone.

Bendner and Jensen will leave after GW12, but might not miss a game if they are chopped from the final squad. I would expect Bendtner to make it regardless, while Jensen is at risk. Fridjonsson is the other WC player, but I don't know when he leaves.

I'm not sure what time price changes are myself and as far as I know there is no site that predicts them like in FPL. Personally I try and make my transfers just before the deadline if possible, as the team sheets are released 15 mins prior.

There were some double gameweeks early in the season as a result of games being postponed due to snow. However, generally speaking they aren't as common as in FPL. There is a chance of some later in the season as well due to some clubs having European commitments, though this is unlikely unfortunately. As a result I suggest you use the chips whenever you feel is best (although I recommend getting used to the league/players first). One thing I would say is that park the bus is by far the most powerful chip, as defenders tend to score better in this game than in FPL for the most part. So you may want to save that one on the off chance of a double down the line. Hope this answers your questions and best of luck! 🙂

Konradsen and Koomson to Aasen and Akintola a good move for free?

If it helps I am holding Koomson for a while longer. I all ready have Akintola and I will get in Asen next week. I believe they are all good picks for the next few weeks.
                          7.1 Konradsen or 4.6 Konradsen?
Konradsen to Asen or Akintola is a good move depending on your funds but it depends on the rest of your squad if you hold Koomson or not.

Not sure if it's a good move to sell Koomson, but two good targets you have there. Akintola play Brann and Rosenborg in the next two though..

Can understand big switches for eg. Teniste, but they don't seem to be adjusting after each change.

The biggest problem with Reginiussen was probably his initial low ownership I think. Much more prone to price changes with low ownership I think.

Guess so. 17.2% owned now and net 4,579 transfers in this round = 5,685 to 10,264 owners in just 3 days. 80% increase from 9.5% ownership.

Same, only for Bendtner. Should've gotten rid of him a long time ago, but you know how it goes.

Team news in a few hours! (kind of)

I have a feeling there could be big rotation..

Always a risk with midweek fixtures..

Really don't want any surprises now. Made two transfers already.

I've already used my FT as well. I have a decent first sub, I can manage one unexpected benching.

Got Skålevik,Johnson and Pedersen up front. Good GW for spissrush or should i hold?

Not the worst week, especially considering all of them are in form. Good fixtures for Johnson and Skålevik, but not the best for Pedersen.

I have the same front line, and I'm saving the chip for later.

I'm personally reasoning that a mid-week is less ideal for it than a regular one. However, Skålevik is at home (in a top match, but decent fixture, plus Brann and himself is very much in form), Johnson is at home in a decent fixture, and while Pedersen is away at Molde, he's the top scorer, and Molde isn't exactly impressive at the moment.

Cheers Northman! Tempted but i think i will hold on to it.

Ideally you'd want to chip up Pedersen in a home game. And do think there'll be better weeks in principle, eg GW17 Pedersen vs Bodo/Glimt, Skalevik vs Start, Johnson vs Sandefjord

But who knows what form will be like then, and what fwds you'll have (there's also a summer break and transfer window). As above though think I'd wait.
