The Community Round-up

Our World Cup planning picked up pace yesterday after FIFA launched their official Fantasy game for this summer’s tournament.

The discussion on site, as well as Hot Topics and Members tables, mainly focussed on Russia 2018 as Fantasy managers start to firm up their plans ahead of next Thursday’s big kick-off.

There was also chat on the Premier League’s decision to announce a winter break from 2019/20 earlier today, while the World Cup Friendlies Community Tournament approaches it’s mid-point.

The Hottest Topics

After Jose Mourinho made his first move in the transfer market, we pondered Fred’s potential impact on Manchester United, also canvassing thoughts on your club’s transfer dealings so far.

Stoichkov#8 helped us look forward to the World Cup as round two of the Community Tournament for World Cup friendlies kicked off last weekend.

McNulty also gave us a helping hand in our quest for World Cup Fantasy points, posting the odds for teams remaining unbeaten in the group stage.

And G-Whizz was another to aid our defensive strategy with a look at World Cup 2018 clean sheet odds,Tommytour was keen to discuss transfer plans for the FIFA game.

FFFrøg mulled over the ever-crucial captaincy strategy for the FIFA game, assessing how best to spread captaincy options to maximize chances of a big haul.

Earlier today, KunTheMan also sparked a very handy assessment of the best bargain options available and Hodor offered a new perspective on squad selection, suggesting that strength on the bench can be overlooked.

Finally, our editor, David, also updated us with the news that the Premier League will introduce a winter break in 2019/20 as other, including Mark, gave their view on the potential domestic impact.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

Members Tables

Members Tables this week featured one of our own, with J0E looking at World Cup Goalscorers from the World Cup qualification data, as well as World Cup Talismen, players who are the most involved in their team’s attack.

Elsewhere, FPLVirgin looked at World Cup teams’ chances of getting clean sheets.

Our Members Tables can be found in the Members Only area in the Stats Tables section.

The Community Tournaments

Stoichkov#8’s World Cup Friendlies Community Tournament hit the halfway point on Thursday with the conclusion of Gameweek 4, with Gameweek 5 not yet complete at the time of writing.

At the halfway point, Rony1993 has pulled seven points ahead of a chasing pack, which includes five managers who are split by only four points.

There’s work to be done for those below sixth, but with it so close at the top the use of differentials could break the table up significantly.

FFFrøg has started a Community Tournament for the World Cup Fantasy game, and is taking applications now.

Community members will join a nation and play as a team against others. The game will follow the group stages and then the knockout format of the real tournament, with 96 spots initially available.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet, or head to head competition at geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Considering the maximum captain chip - when do you think may be the best time to play it? In a typical FPL season, the most obvious time to play it is during a DGW, but I'm wondering if in the case of a WC, it's worth using it during the group stages when a big gun might smash a smaller country?

GW2 or 3 imo. Gotta back one of the big teams to score big. I think I’ll use it in GW2.

There is sound logic in playing it either during the group stages or during Semis or Final/3rd play-off.

I'm thinking it's best to hold onto it for the later rounds when you don't have many opportunities to change your captain. Nailing a successful captaincy in the group stage shouldn't be too difficult.

Definitely in one of the last two rounds. Only one chance to change your captain if your first choice doesn't do the business. You'd be unfortunate not to switch to a captain who scores you decent points in the group stages and Last 16.

I played my first EPL Fantasy this past season. Had fun with it and thought the action with the WC would bring more. I was wondering if any of you kind people would comment on my team to give a novice some words of wisdom.

    Starting Team:
    Cap: 0

    Cavani, Jesus, Mbappe

    Casemiro, Isco, Muller

    Godin, Kimmich, Varane, T. Silva

    Uzoho

    Subs:

    GK: Fodder 4.0

    Mid: Carrasco, C. Sanchez

    Def: Meunier

        Thank you NoQuarternt.

I have nothing in my cap and quite like the rest of my players so only have 5.5 to replace him if I was to transfer him out.

Any suggestions of nailed on (with little doubt) of any attacking midfielders you would consider replacing him with?

I'd downgrade T.Silva to Miranda, and then use the extra 0.5 to upgrade Casemiro to someone like Cueva of Peru or Kostic of Serbia.

          Thank you Adam.

I changed T.Silva to Miranda. For Casemiro what do you think of A.Silva? He should start and be quite advanced feeding and getting fed by Ronaldo no?

Tough vs Spain but two much easier ones after that.

Remember that Portugal have two A.Silva's! Adrien Silva is the 6.0 MD. Not the same as Andre Silva up front at 9.0!

Egads! Haha now that's a beginners mistake.

From further searching, I believe Adrien who I have on my team doesn't even start. More to ponder.

              Thank you so much Adam.

"you can make a sub that will change your formation midweek" - that
the formation changes automatically when you sub a player, you don't have to worry about formation (except it has to be valid)

Due to the match schedule, I'd like to squeeze in a midfield from group H. I am tinkering and have between 4.5-6.0 to spend. Anyone worth spending?
    Team is:
    Almuaiouf/(Caballero or Uzoho)
    Hegazy/Danilo/Varela (if fit)/Sidibe/Meunier
    Alfaraj/Isco/(Paulinho or Coutinho)/Mueller/Group H midfielder
    Cavani/Jesus/Lukaku

Lo Celso probably for me - some decent attacking games for this Argentina team and he's a nailed on box to box mid with 2 assists in 5 games for Argentina. Worth a shot imo over Cueva's tough games.

Argentina have Iceland and Croatia. I would probably say that’s on a Par with Denmark and France. Well may be not, but the point I’m making is that Croatia are no mugs and Iceland as the Euros in 2016 proved are nobody’s mugs.
Argentina had Messi with 7 goals but nobody else scored more than 2. So how free scoring will Argentina be?
Cueva as stated is on penalties and set pieces.
This is what makes these games great!!!

My first stab at a team - with inspiration from lots of yours above, of course.

    El Kajoui, Udoho,
    Sidibe, Carvajal, Danilo, Godin, (Dalsgaard),
Mueller, Isco, James, (El Dawsari, Kvist),
    Cavani, Jesus, Lukaku.

--- Personally, I like the option of Mbappe more than Cavani, and then I can replace Kvist with Nandez, but is he really nailed with that many options in team?

-- Also, if Varela is fit, will replace Godin, and upgrade Dalsgaard.

    Looks okay right?

This is very similar to mine. I also think budget keepers may be the way to go, but I prefer Almuaiouf over El Kajoui.

Also, what I don't like is having no player play on the last gameday in GW1 and GW2.

Also, not 100% Carvajal will be fit and may not play all minutes.

    Thoughts on my local FWCT?

    Muslera
    Alba, Meunier, Kimmich, Trippier, Sidibe
    Hazard, Rdriguez
    Griezmann, Werner, Rashford

    Bench: Fodders

Playing a local game with limited transfers and slightly different setup in prices etc. (i.e. no swapping players from bench in-round)

Where would you spend 2m to upgrade?

Can't really go much lower than Asensio. Don't want two 4.5 mids.

Kimmich is the easy way to do it but he could easily be the highest scoring defender.

You have too much in defence imo. I really like Godin and Kimmich but may need to look at downgrading some others hegazi 4.5 Miranda 5.0 good options.

Personally think the value is in defence in these tournaments. Miranda is 5.5 and I already have Danilo. Don't fancy Egypt tbh.

Thoughts? This is with Sun Dream Team

    Lloris
    Kimmich | Marcelo | Varane
    J. Rodriguez | Isco | Carrasco | Sterling
    Kane | Neymar | Lewandowski

      Why not Mendy over Varane?

Just stick the entire Brazil or Spain defence in and rotate your big hitters

It’s close. I think Jesus is 0.5 cheaper with that in mind I’d go Jesus if you don’t already have extra Brazil coverage with no France

Back on here after 4 years (I dont have the strength of concentration to last a season, short competitions on the other hand..)

I'm looking for the best £6m midfielder for GW1. Currently I have:

    Cavani Jesus Falcao
    Ziyach Isco Coutinho Jedinak Aldawsari
    Godin Kimmich Miranda Meunier Hegarzy
    Muslera Uzoho

I'm not happy with Jedinak, but can't find a better £6m m/f. I'd be very grateful for any suggestions on the m/f issue or a more general RMT. Thanks

    Kenny Dalglish getting knighted !!

Way overdue. If anybody in football ever deserved a knighthood it's him.

I’d change Kane and Lewandowski to equal players who cost less and upgrade the squad players. Good job of fitting that big front 3 in though
