Premier League fixtures announced for 2018/19

The Premier League fixture list for 2018/19 was released today at 9am, giving Fantasy managers an early idea of which teams to target in the opening few Gameweeks.

Manchester City’s initial fixtures particularly stand out: the reigning champions begin with an away trip to Arsenal before they encounter all six of the sides promoted from the Championship over the last two seasons.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea only meet one of their fellow “big six” clubs in their opening half-dozen fixtures, meanwhile.

Newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers (EVE, lei, MCI, whu, BUR, mun) and Fulham (CPL, tot, BUR, bri, mci, WAT) have mixed starts, while Cardiff City have a decent trio of matches (bou, NEW, hud) to begin with before their fixtures toughen considerably: the Bluebirds then face six of last season’s top seven in their subsequent seven matches.

Wolves and Cardiff also have tricky-looking final-day encounters away at Liverpool and Manchester United respectively.

Southampton and Everton assets might be among those to consider in the opening months of the season: they are the only two clubs not to play any of last season’s top six sides in the first five Gameweeks.

The Premier League fixtures are out: https://www.premierleague.com/news/720651

Manchester City couldn’t have it any better - is Sane a lock for your team? Will you double up on City attack? Triple up? Who is safe from rotation?

With Manchester United and Liverpool having favourable fixtures, will you go heavy at the back?

Elsewhere, can we go without Harry Kane, with Tottenham’s fixtures looking bad for the first 5GWs and their stadium not being ready?

Are you still looking at Dubravka? Newcastle have a terrible run to start. Is he one for an early WC?

    What stands out to you?

Need to take into account World Cup hangovers of course but a triple up on City looks essential with the fixtures and how well they performed this year. Price points are going to play a factor though, they could all be 9.5m+ attack wise.

We're all going to not get Kane because of fixtures and he'll smash it in August 😆

I can't believe you haven't updated the fixture ticker yet. Tick tock! 😉

Not sure about going heavy at the back right at the start of the season. The promoted clubs tend to get most of their goals and points earlier on in the season whilst they are fresh and confident and whilst it's still a bit of a fairytale.

It's a good chance to see what template is starting to form in terms of the settled defences and nailed on picks and picking them up on an early wildcard. It would be interesting to see who the equivalent of Davies and Otamendi will be this coming season. The role of Alonso will also be particularly worth monitoring as he is due a price drop, surely.

        We're working on it 😀

I agree, most of the time I go cheap at the back until about Christmas.

But United, City, and Liverpool will have three of the most settled defences, plus good starts.. I might mix it up and go a bit heavier

Kane can be avoided in August. Arsenal can be assessed under Emery for the first 2-3 weeks before considering them.
Has to be Salah(c) GW 1

Everton have some enticing opening fixtures. They are a high risk team, but if Siggy is well priced he will be tempting.

I think Aubameyang needs considering - no world cup and scores regularly. Personally I feel he could be one of the highest scoring players next season.

Arsenal's are weird. After two nasty opening fixtures they have a seemingly great run for 8 fixtures in a row.

Which makes a GW3 wildcard an option. The wiser strategy though may be to save ft GW2 then make 2 or 3 transfers for Arsenal players for GW3.

Despite the first two difficult fixtures (Man City and Chelsea), Aubameyang and Ramsey are still on my watchlist.

World Cup players could well be rested at the start of the season, whereas they should be fresh and raring to go!

Will try and avoid the early wildcard this season.

Staying away from Spurs (lots of WC players) and hopefully this means I can start with Dubravka. No Arsenal til gw3 due to fixtures and to see how Emery uses Auba.

      Dubravka Elliott 8.5

      7.0 Alonso 6.5 Robertson 6.5 Mendy 5.5 PVA (Smalling gw2) 5.0 Cedric =30.5

      13.0 Salah 9.5 Sane 6.0 Richarlison 4.5x2 ? =37.5

      11.5 Lukaku (Auba gw3) 7 King 4.5 ? =23

      0.5 itb

Salah, Sane and Robertson will be in my team for sure.

Looking at Tosun and/or Siggy with those fixtures for Everton.

How do Southampton always have a nice run to start the season? Won't fall into the trap of getting one of their attackers but BUR, eve, LEI, cpl, BHA looks good for a couple cleansheets.

Best to build team around Mancity one def 2 attackers
      Manutd 1 def + Lukaku
      Liv 1 def 1 attack
      Eve 1 def + Tosun
Rest benchfillers who rotate with eve defender and 5th midfield punt on Ryan Sessongon/Neves.
Hope Sess is defender though in fpl
After August can upgrade Lukaku plus City striker to Auba + Kane

Last minute checks on the World Cup team (new article goodness 🙂 )

Are there any glaring mistakes here? Are there better options at the price points for Ljajuc, Meza and Granqvist? Is Inui too risky?

Potential ways to make money include Kimmich downgrade and Coutinho to Paulinho.

    Kajoui - Uzoho

    Kimmich - Meunier - Granqvist - Pavard - Varela

    Coutinho - Rodriguez - Ljajic - Meza - Inui

    Suarez - Griezmann - Lukaku

Looks pretty strong. Not much to offer on my end.

You seem quite set on the Suarez differential, go for it. Cavani is standard coz he's 1m cheaper.

Yeah not sure why I suddenly came round to Suarez. I think it was the added bonus of assist potential as well as being on penalties. Time will tell if he's worth the premium, Cavani could smash it.

        Coutinho v Paulinho - thoughts?

Is captaining Varela over Isco madness?

I like being able to see his team news before picking

    Good morning everyone!

I'd massively appreciate feedback on my WC team:

    Pickford (Uzoho)
    Danilo, Varela, Kimmich, Meunier (Mojica)
    J. Rod, Mueller, Carrasco (Casemiro) (C. Sanchez)
    Jesus, Cavani, Lukaku

Undecided on my captain but would be one of my front 3. Thinking of maximum captain GR1 as there's some very favourable fixtures.

    Thanks in advance!

It looks really good. Not sure about the Pickford pick... but good luck!

In an ideal world I would upgrade Varela to Tripper as I would prefer defenders that are playing that wing back roll - there seems to be much more value in def than mid which is why I opted for a 4-3-3.

Trying to be objective as an englishman, their first two fixtures are decent and seem to have a decent chance of a clean sheet (puts hands over eyes!)

So there is some wiggle room between Pickford and Varela, please feel free to suggest an alternative!!!

        Thanks

Anyone care to comment on which they think would be best for the first couple of GW's?

    A) Jesus and Mueller
    B) Kane and Ziyech

    Rest of team
    Sommer, Uzoho
    Meunier, Trippier, Varela, Dalsgaard, Sabaly
    James, Eriksen, Meza, Al-Dawsari, ???
    Cavani (c2), Lukaku, ???

    TIA

How do I decide between Samedov and Lingard ?

Samedov gives a game week 1 punt. Although I have some Saudi mid anyway so not the end of world. But the Saudi and Russian defences are so bad ..

Surely Suarez(c) vs Egypt is better than Ziyach(c) vs iran?

Especially if I'm not going to captain Mbop vs Aussies.

fivethirtyeight.com posted this about Uruguay forwards in their Group A preview:

"While Suarez typically stays high and looks for chances to run in behind, Cavani sits deeper and looks to connect the defense to the attack. In Uruguay’s matches since the last World Cup, about 63 percent of Cavani’s open play touches have come outside the attacking third of the field, compared with just 45 percent of Suarez’s. Whether Uruguay plans to sit back and counter or hold possession and move the ball forward, it will be Cavani with the key responsibility of dropping back and helping with buildup play to free Suarez to run at the defense."

    What do you guys think?

The goals/assists ratio suggests it's more Suarez assisting Cavani than the other way around. C also top scored in SA qualifying

Would be more useful to look at touches in box than "attacking third" though
