The Community Round-up

In a busy week that focused largely on the World Cup Fantasy games, the Premier League fixture release also caught our attention on Thursday.

Hot Topics were in abundance as we fine-tuned our squads for Russia 2018, though some also took time to assess the domestic schedules for next season.

Meanwhile, as one Community Tournament ended another one began as we indulge in a packed month of international action.

The Community Articles

Rather than pen a new Community Article, Stoichkov#8 posted the results of his recent Community Tournament in the original piece, where all team selections and discussions were made.

Results can be found below in the Community Tournaments section.

Don’t forget: if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports, or features brewing, visit our community section to submit your article and let Geoff know – geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

New articles are always welcome.

The Hottest Topics

With the announcement of the World Cup Fantasy game, Kuntheman(c) began the process of building a Fantasy team by looking at cut-price players, while Hodor wondered how budget our bargains should be, and whether our bench options should matter.

FFFrøg helped develop our squads with a World Cup player guide for defenders and midfielders.

There was also talk on whether a template team for Russia 2018 was beginning to take shape.

NorthernBoysLoveGravs warned us of an increased number of players who are rotation risks, particularly in Group H.

Pirlø’s Pen took a look at the high-end buys, and considered if Neymar is worth having in our side.

FFFrøg makes a case to have an active bench, instead of the high-priced assets like Neymar and Lionel Messi.

The use of the chips in the FIFA Fantasy game was a major talking point this week. Jurgen Flopp warned us that it isn’t possible to deactivate chips, a potentially painful change from the FPL game for some.

While AA33 considered early chip strategy, Prøfeßor Bear asked when we should use our Bench Boost, suggesting either Round 1 or the Round of 16.

Andy85wsm looked at captaincy strategy, pondering whether it is best to have an armband option from every matchday.

To round off this portion of World Cup Hot Topics, André94PT showed us an early list of set-piece takers for the 32 teams.

Elsewhere, Niemi looked at Eliteserien GW13 captaincy and transfers, after Eliteserien took a two-week break. The game now breaks again until June 23rd.

There was discussion on the implications of the Premier League Winter Break, which comes into effect in 2019/20.

We also asked for your World Cup predictions.

Moving towards the release of the Premier League fixtures, there was also chat on the Premier League players that you think can step up in World Cup Fantasy.

This led nicely to a busy Thursday, when the Premier League fixtures were announced, reminding us that the start of the domestic season is less than two months away.

Gregor had an early look at the teams that have perfect home/away rotation to get us started.

J0E’s contribution this week came via a World Cup Scoutcast and a Premier League Fixtures Scoutcast.

Also, just a reminder to all to try to keep RMTs in RMT Hot Topics, when they’re available. Mods will be made aware when these Hot Topics are made and will try to be active to respond to RMT queries in the RMT-specific Hot Topics.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

Members Tables

J0E also gave us a couple of Members’ Tables to consider, with the first looking at the World Cup whipping boys.

The second he calls World Cup goalalicious teams and attempts to predict which sides we could expect significant returns from.

Community member ambergambler created a Forwards on Fire table assesses the most important attacking statistics from forwards.

Our Members Tables can be found in the Members Only area in the Stats Tables section.

The Community Tournaments

Stoichkov#8’s World Cup Friendlies tournament came to an end with Fantasy Football Scout moderator Niemi taking the title – he finished six points ahead of André94PT. Rony1993 was one point ahead of Stoichkov#8, who just missed out on third place.

Stoichkov#8 finished his tournament by posting the tournament’s Dream Team and giving a Best of the Best, awards for things other than simply finishing first. Unsurprisingly, Niemi won many of these awards.

Huge thanks to Stoichkov#8 for his hard work organizing and running this tournament.

Jarvish started a simple Yes/No Community competition, where those who join make specific predictions, which Jarvish will tally at the end.

Those who didn’t sign up at the beginning will be at a disadvantage, but the competition can be seen here.

If you are running a community tournament or are thinking about starting one, and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet, or head to head competition at geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

      Keeping cavani
      Getting Salah
      Guedes
      Spain defender

A really important thing to consider is incentive for round 3. Ronaldo might not even play if Portugal win against Morocco so I’m reluctant to bring him in. Bad time to wildcard and I wish my team wasn’t such a mess

Ronaldo has to play both. They can go out if they only win against Morocco.

I guess this is a lesson for FPL.

Do you spread your budget more evenly, or do you buy the special expensive player(s) and hope there are good cheap value options in the midfield/forward positions?

In the case of Ronaldo, it was clearly the latter. Will this also apply to Salah in FPL?

    .
Personally, I think it depends on what we have in the 5.5m/6.0m ranges.

    Salah(~13.0m) & (5.5m) or (9.5m) & (9.0m).

No good options in that range, and Salah may not be viable.

Hey GB, how are you? Back after years, and seeing you for first time.

I feel Ronaldo was an educated choice to avoid - you couldn't have all three of Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo - and he was clearly the third best option among them. I believe not going w/o one of Messi/Neymar was foolish tho.

      1. Piggs Boson

Hey Saniul! I'm good thanks 🙂

I actually think Ronaldo was above Messi. Argentina don't fill me with confidence, and Ronaldo is central to the Euro'16 winners. The Portugal team is built around him. Big fish, small pond.

Not sure what to expect from Neymar. Jesus could be the main beneficiary of his talents. We'll see I guess!

Can't you say the same about Messi?

And honestly, I think his supporting cast is better. Aguero, Otamendi are genuinely top quality players compared to the likes of Guedes and Fonte...

Messi is surrounded by bigger fish. There are some great players in that Argentinian side. I don't know if that benefits him though, because teams tighten up a bit when they are ahead, and it's not always going to be Messi that scores - unlike Ronaldo in Portugal.

Just a theory, not entirely sure.

Going without Salah for that opening fixture would be scary. But if he is priced around 12.0m-13.0m, you could get Mane and Sane over Salah & 5.5m. Going to be a huge decision.

I'm going to pour my money into the first 11 next season and have minimum cost subs. 4.0 gk 4.5 outfielders.

Players like Cork and McArthur were 4.5 and got over 100 points so hopefully we can get a few more like that next season.

You go to maximise points. I personally look at it by saying I start with £100m. To win FPL you need about 2,400pts. That includes captains of 600pts so the raw score is 2,100pts. If Salah is £13.0m then he needs to earn 13% of the points. 13% of 2,100 is about 275pts. That equates to about 7pts per game to be value. If you think Salah can beat 7pts per game over a stretch of games then he is worth it and is also a (c) option in those games.

          • 7 Years

Thing is - if the £4.0m doesn't then Salah has to be even better value to get me the points I need. Which means he may be a serious 'no-no'.

      3. Piggs Boson
        • 12 Years

Agreed. This is the way I try to look at it. Captaincy complicates things.

Aubameyang and Firmino/Mane could be viable captaincy options, as could Aguero if Jesus gets to the World Cup final. But doubling Salah's pts total could be the way to maximise points, even if it means losing a big hitter.

It's deep maths, with a large dose of luck.

Which is the footballing nation you dislike the most - not counting obvious rivalries with your home nation?

Easily South Korea for me. Have zero knowledge of how to play football. Did the most blatant cheating EVER in a football game, TWICE - against Italy and Spain in '02 - and faced no action. I still get outraged every time I watch footage from that time. Keeps on doing similar stuff in every qualifier, and seems as if there is no way anyone can touch them.

Can someone 7-0 them in this WC and put them in their place again? Thanks

England ( I'm half English) don't dislike the country at all, I just don't like the hype, the lout fans, and that goddam brass band. If I was a fan I wouldn't be able to enjoy a game with that rammed in background)

Never forgive Sweden ( or Denmark) for thar 2 2 draw putting Italy out of the Euros. No evidence so I can't say it was cheating but ....oh to hell with it.. they cheated 😆

Spain is the one team I cannot stand. I used to love watching the Spanish national team, but Del Bosque ruined that team. It's particularly the media hype that I can't bear. It's like the commentators don't watch the slow, rigid game that they are playing as they fill the cast with superlatives for technical details that leads nowhere. Yesterday was a big improvement in that regard.

Brazil. I've got nothing against the country or national team as a whole, but they have just consistently had football's biggest bellendss playing for them.

Too late to worry. If you've got Pavard you might as well keep him in the XI - can always be subbed later!

If I was to change my Cavani(C) to Eriksen(C) would I still get Cavan's points as a captain? And if was to sub Dalsgaard on for Varela will I still get VArela's 6 points?

      McD's?
No and no. There's an article which explains it. You only get the bonus on the player you kept the captain armband on at the end, and you only get points for your final XI on the pitch.

Or you can try it and find out

You lose cavain's doubled points (i.e you retain 2 poins only out of the 4 that you currently have)
You lose all of Verla's 6 points and get whatever Dalsgaard scores

Thanks, my only worry is if he scores a 'middling' points like 8 or 9, what to do. I will take that from a conventional captain in this format (no BPS) but with Lukaku, Jesus and Mueller still to go it will be tempting to change the captaincy

What are people worrying about? We’re 25% of the way through the group stage with many big hitters (Messi, Neymar, Griezeman, Lewandowski, Lukaku) and some great midfield options to play. Relax and enjoy

Before the first match only. It's pretty clear in the rules

U can substitute till the deadline of that particular day which is the KO time of first match of the day.
Thereafter you cannot substitute till all matches in the day are done.
As such on the homepage, u get to see a substitution deadline, different to a transfer deadline. Do your thing before that clock expires.

"After all matches on a single day have finished and before the next Round of matches start, you can:
Replace any player (unless they were sent off) with one from your bench whose team is yet to play.
Change your captain (if he was not sent off) with a player from your squad whose team is yet to play."

If you look at the replay, it takes a massive deflection off the Portugal player. Would never have went to Nacho if it wasn't for that.

If I sub out say Belhanda for Cueva and change captain from Cavani to Eriksen now, would I be able to sub Belhanda back in for example if Cueva does worse? Same question with captain.
