Best Huddersfield players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

Huddersfield Town made a mockery of the doom-mongering pre-season predictions to avoid relegation in their debut Premier League campaign.

The Terriers, who were odds-on with the bookmakers to make an instant return to the Championship before a ball was kicked, only fell into the drop zone once in the entire season and finished four points ahead of 18th-placed Swansea City.

Town’s squad was among the cheapest in Fantasy Premier League last season, with not a single player having a starting price of more than £6.0m. The same is true for the coming campaign, with striker Steve Mounie the most expensive asset in David Wagner’s squad.

Jonas Lossl, Christopher Schindler and Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen broke the 100-point barrier in FPL last season and all three have been priced up at £4.5m again this time after their value-for-money performances in 2017/18. Midfielder Aaron Mooy, Town’s highest-scoring outfield player in FPL last season, is also a non-mover at £5.5m.

Only the sides who finished in the top seven kept more clean sheets than Huddersfield (ten) last season, though the Terriers’ concerning form in the second half of 2017/18 – in which they won just three of their final 20 matches and recorded as many shut-outs – is worth noting to Fantasy managers ahead of the coming season.

In-depth data on Huddersfield’s season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the salient statistics in the article below.

Wood or Arnautovic. Zaha is a trap, he needs to score goals to score points as a forward and he doesn't do that enough.

Zaha has the worst minutes per goal stats out of all the players above. Last year he had 5 points per goal and clean sheet points - he won't have that this year so I don't see why he should outscore them unless he ups his output.

Yarmolenko. 7m. Not good opening fixtures. Not nailed-on looking just yet. Didn't tear up many trees in a short spell at Dortmund but 7m for an international hitman. 😉

Arnie's a forward though and I think there's more options in the 6-7m forwards. Yarmolenko could be this season's Arnautovic. Hopefully they can play well together, 2 fiery Eastern Europeans.

i'm more interested in their other new player Diop as a rotating 4.5 defender , at 6ft 4 he'll obviously be good for set pieces , he scored 3 goals in France last year , 8 yellow cards too though which is a worry

      1. GreennRed
        • 12 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

Good spot. I have Fabianski, poor opening fixtures but rotates fairly well with Forster or McCarthy. Could be Diop and Rice at the back for the Hammers but Dec has been good with limited experience and Diop has no PL time yet.

        1. lugs
          • 6 Years
          5 years, 9 months ago

i think Diop will be first choice anyway because 22mil is a lot of money to spend on a young CB , by all accounts he's very highly rated (made captain at just 20 by Toulouse) , also here's an interesting little nugget of information i pulled from the West Ham website

"Diop played 34 matches in Ligue 1 last campaign for Toulouse, averaging 2.2 interceptions per contest.

That average would see the 21-year-old in the top six among Premier League players for most interceptions played per fixture last season, putting Diop in esteemed company with some of the division’s best players"

          bonus point magnet confirmed lol

Tagging is the solution to keep topics together. I'm not commited enough to bookmark each interesting discussion in multiple folders by team, position, price etc 😆 Your stickies idea is a nice short-term fix tbh, but could be a bit of a mess. Still not heard anything about a realistic timeline for these tags etc to come in :/

That might be alright but it is not always be the same device you are on and could have the thing you have tagged or bookmarked that you are looking for on a device that is not in your hands.

I suppose you could have all your tags and bookmarks synced but that is not always practical.

Nooooo. I mean I a bookmarking now because I can't stand to see all this good content wasted.

But the site needs a tagging system. In a nutshell: https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2018/07/07/world-cup-is-over-for-much-owned-brazil-and-uruguay-fantasy-assets/?hc_page=2#hc_comment_18337339

              Yeah,that sounds like a plan.
I know they are working hard behind the scenes at changes and am looking forward to seeing how they will work.

I thought they would be trialing some of this stuff at this stage but i suppose it is step by step. Those yellow ribbon HTs are one of the first steps and this looks like a winner.

Yeah hopefully. The yellow ribbon comments was the biggest priority for me and the best way to get a Members Only area to talk about data without having to fully do it. Now we need to see it succeed before tweaking it to allow users to submit comments for Members Only, etc.

Right now the biggest priority is fixing the log-out thing that has cropped up since we fixed the double Member login. Hopefully that should be fixed today.

Then, among other things: allowing users to permanently set their desired 'Sort By' choice, the new Members badges that were really strongly supported, a new mod tool to help improve the boards, requested tweaks to widgets and members tools

Thanks Geoff, so is it safe to say that tagging etc is months away rather than weeks, or is it even possible we'll have to wait another season?

Yeah, it was again talked about at Scout Camp as well as a whole bunch of other options for filtering, as is still being talked about considered.

It's a fairly big change and there are so many ways it could be implemented - I don't expect it to happen before the season starts

Yeah I think the reason we don't have that now is because if it's something that should be seen by more users it becomes a HT, whereas things like team sheets that are stickied weren't considered necessary viewing.

But I'm happy to follow up on this today!

Here's where I'm at right now, I'd love some feedback:

    Ryan

    Trippier, Coleman, Alexander-Arnold (Daniels)

    Eriksen, Mané, Mahrez, Jota

    Agüero, Zaha, Arnautovic

    Fabianski, Daniels (Alexander-Arnold), Schelotto, Sessegnon

    What do you say, lads?

    Leno - Begovic

    Cairney - Mahrez - Salah - Gunnarsson - Mkhitaryan
    Firmino - Wood - Agüero

Solid. Love to see Mahrez getting in more and more teams, think he's a great pick; especially to begin with

Looks good. I have Tomkins so hoping Guaita does well for you. Maybe a keeper other than Begivic? I don't see much CS potential in Bournemouth but the likes of Daniels could bring attacking returns to compensate goals conceded.

As someone who hasn't been around here much lately, the template looks bizarre in some areas to me. The hive mentality is rarely a good thing early in preseason.

I am trying my best not to look at the RMTs so i will not be subconsciously influenced.

More often than not these predeadline temps are up in flames after one or two gameweeks.

I think this happened recently with the McFifa game for instance.

Yarmolenko... a player I always liked, though a bit injury prone I think, not certain. Was hoping for a £6-6.5 price but £7m is still tempting. West Ham will be a lot better this season without Bilic and that other clown.

Right then, extremely happy with this team. Not even looking for a RMT lol, just sharing it because I've seen some RMTs with strange / super risky picks and questionable team balance. I don't think having Salah should mean carrying any garbage.

    Foster
    Coleman, Douglas, Robertson, PVA
    Salah (C), Sigurdsson, Sanchez
    Wood, Aguero, Zaha

    Fabianski, Pritchard, Chalobah, Peltier

Just about zero WC hangover was a key part of my decision making. My thinking is always to shuffle the deck until I think each starting player is either a nailed on player in a top team or a talisman / key player in a mid-range team. I hate seeing starting XI filler, there should always be a better value alternative somewhere. I'm happy to skip the 4.5 defenders and spend a bit more to get quality and attacking threat.

Deliberately planning to use funds from downgrading Sanchez in GW3 (hopefully after he's brought in some differential points) to bolster the bench / jump on bandwagons. I like having all that cash in one dispensable player because it offers flexibility to make 2 transfers and really transform your team.

Robertson to Mendy in GW4/5 when Robbo's fixtures swing and Mendy is hopefully nailed.

Aguero might become Auba in GW3, but if Aguero looks essential I could even go Wood > Auba, Sanchez > 6m and carry a light midfield until WC. If I do go Aguero > Auba I'll probably downgrade Sanchez to the most nailed looking City mid (apart from Sterling).

For sure. The one thing I am going to do is keep this team on file so after all my inevitable tinkering, I will come back and compare it to this original draft. I'll need to be convinced my tinkering has actually helped, otherwise it's this!

4 transfers planned for the 4 or 5 GWs doesn't sound so safe to me. I know you don't have to commit to the transfers, but you've made decisions for GW1 based on these hypothetical transfers. I'd personally try to nip one of them in the bud by making the transfer(s) before GW1.

Seems to me that there are only a few people who he wants to get rid of when people return from the wc which I think might be ok. Although if a few other things go wrong he may need to wc.

Why have Douglas and Peltier when you could have 2 nailed 4.5 defenders and be able to rotate them if you need to ?

Not sure about a fifth of your squad - Douglas,
Wood, Pritchard, Chalobah, Peltier ... personally I would avoid all of them and would be itching to dump them as the 0 or 1 points start dribbling in but you have planned all your transfers already -different though so good luck and stick to your guns 🙂

      1. Deulofail
        • 8 Years

Because Douglas can "rotate" with Pritchard and Chalobah, too, if necessary?

      Love this team!

Salah, Sanchez and Aguero as main blocks looks sound.
Picking attacking defenders who could justify their pricetag even on lesser teams makes the switch to euroboys from the topteams simpler if thats a fancy.

Lets face it. None of us are gonna pick the perfect XI from the start of the season, but this looks about as good as it gets with regards to fixtures, "nailedness" and "flexibility" going forward!

i'd be worried about , Sorloth and Masuaku's game time , the latter is not a midfielder and has Cresswell to compete with at left back , also i'd be a little concerned about Mendy's injury record (though he's a great option if he stays fit)

      1. Hotdogs for Tea
        • 8 Years

Masuaku played most of last season in midfield with Cresswell in the team too, not in competition with him?

But this season ... who knows ?

        1. lugs
          • 6 Years
          5 years, 9 months ago

yeah he played as a wingback mostly with Cresswell behind him , i have no idea why he was classed as a midfielder this year while someone like Alonso wasn't

i just had a quick look at a few random City games over 2 seasons while Pellegrini was in charge , and from the games i looked at he favoured either a 442 or 4231 formation , so no wingback role for Masuaku with him in charge i'm afraid 🙂

            • 8 Years

From memory and flicking through a few Hammers lineups, they tended to play Zabaleta Rice Ogbonna Cresswell in a back four with Masuaku as a left sided mid ? But with new signings it is any ones guess and if Cresswell gets injured Masuaka is likely to drop back to defence

Stephens from Brighton seems the only other nailed 4.5 mid ?

according to WhoScored they played a 3421 , which is really a 5221 when you consider Zabaleta had the same role but on the opposite side

if this player map is correct then Zabaleta should be considered a midfielder too

Yeah I use it a bit more as the season goes on and more data are collected to help ground my decisions, particularly to see if a hit (or hits) are worth considering over multiple weeks or if my idea is baloney.

I also use it as one point of call to help with captaincy decisions. If I'm thingking that Vardy is likely to outscore Aguero this week, I'll check, again to see if my idea is just plain dumb 🙂
