Best Leicester City players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

The departure of Riyad Mahrez is the theme that runs throughout our latest detailed analysis for the new Fantasy Premier League season.

The Algerian leaves a big hole at Leicester City from both a goal-scoring and assist-providing perspective, meaning those left behind will have to up their game.

We’ve gone over last season’s underlying statistics to assess which players could fill the void and whether the Foxes are worth considering in 2018/19 without Mahrez.

Fantasy Football Scout members can view that data in the Members’ Area and also read our full analysis of it below to help them pick the best possible FPL team this season.

forget sanchez unless he shows form! dont know why many people are going for sanchez. ManU will continue to be boring. Better to save 1m & go for Sane/ Mane/ Eriksen or even KDB,

What formations are people leaning towards?

I’ve always liked the 3-4-3 but my drafts are mostly 3-5-2 with some decent midfielders around 5.5 Million.

Name some decent 5.5s. They all seem awful imo.

Mostly 5-2-3 is the idea, with a possibility of going 4-3-3.

Gonna be block defences. Something like double ups on City, United, Spurs with an added Robertson.

I don't particularly aim for a certain formation but it normally ends up as 3-4-3 because the cheap forward usually looks better than the cheap mid when I'm scraping the barrel.

      1. JAC THE CAT
        • 10 Years

        I can’t see a forward I like much under 7 Million.

I actually meant the other way around. The cheap mids look better than the cheap forwards, so I end up spending a bit more on the last forward spot than I do on the mids

    5. the snazzy viking

      3-5-2

cheap 5.5m mid to accommodate a strong attack that can be transferred to any bandwagon under 6m that comes along

but I'll likely start off with Deulofeu however I'm tempted by Cairney

    A) Sanchez + David Silva + Pedro + Costa
    B) Sane + Ramsey + Willian + Lamela

Come gw3 I´ll evaluate them, No reason to get any Arse defender ahead of that imo. And Leno is way down on my ´goalie to get´ list

Just seen that Benteke was substituted with a knee injury today - looks relatively minor, but one to monitor considering his knee injury last season.

The dream of Sorloth (5.0) starting for Palace still lives. 1 goal and 2 assists in preseason so far....

Looks to me that Arnautovic is still being played up front as a striker. That’s enough for me. I’m sold

Something I promised myself at the end of last season was not to get too hooked on fixture difficulty when regarding forwards and mids (makes more sense for defenders tho).
Plus I feel he is fixture proof anyway....

        Liverpool away? He could score.

        Arsenal away? Same.

Other two in first four are decent fixtures at home.

Like I said above I’m not letting fixturesdictate my attackers as much this season. Too many times last season I tried to be smart and over think things. Fixtures more key for defenders imo.

For people only picking one of Auba and Aguero (to start anyway), ....

    Which, and why?

I'm going with Auba from the start (and Mahrez)

Lessons learned from last season - trust in quality players, try not to overthink things and avoid planned transfers where possible.

In addition, he will have had a full preseason and is (most probably ) 100% nailed.

Aguero because he's playing down the middle for a 100-goal attack.

Auba as I want him from gw3 anyway. Up against a decimated City and an unknown(probably decimated also) chelsea does not look to frightening from a goalscoring point of view. I mean Arsenal could still lose but I bet they will score some.

      Auba
Hasn't been to the World Cup.
      Isn't a rotation risk.
      100% nailed on pens.
Six of the listed City defenders have been at the World Cup. All bar one didn't play maximum amount of games (Otamendi).
Chelsea have a new manager, probably implementing a new system they ain't use to (433).
Scored three goals in 16 minutes.

Has Button signed for Brighton purely as a back-up?

If you're going to go for any 4.0 keeper, surely he's the one to go for? Does he have at least a bit of a chance of breaking through to the team?

Seems like a weird signing if not.

Whilst I can see the appeal due to his historic performances, I'm not willing to spend that amount of money on him until I know for sure he is firing on all cylinders for Mourinho.

Some of his performances for United were an embarrassment.

One thing to possibly bear in mind is that he is actually been unable to travel to the US for their preseason tour due to VISA issues.

Should hopefully be resolved soon, but worth keeping an eye on.

Why are there people suggesting that Liverpool's Ward (if he is nailed) should be rotated with an other 4.5 Goalkeeper. Its crazy.
There's even an article written about the options for rotating with him which was written by Deulofail, which I believe was a waste of time in the nicest way possible.

It is completely redundant to rotate a top 4 goalkeeper with a goalkeeper outside the top 4. If you had a nailed Pool defender for instance, would you be looking to rotate him with someone else? The answer is no clearly not. And dont give me the "Oh I dont have Pool defenders for CS potential". Many picked up Van Dik last season because of how much solid Pool were defensively after he joined. The exact same logic applies to goalkeepers. You are just getting lured in by spending an extra 0.5 on an unnecessary other starter to pair him with. The only reason you put down rotating options is because of Wards price of 4.5. Ward is a gift at 4.5 if he starts. Not a gift we rotate with. Asumming hes a nailed starter, we should logically pair him with a 4.0 keeper, and spend the 0.5 elsewhere. And dont forget, 0.5 is a lot! I cant stress this enough.

Should we rotate Lloris with another 4.5 GK? No
Should we rotate Ederson with another 4.5 GK? No
Should we rotate De Gea with another 4.5 GK? No
Should we rotate Leno with another 4.5 GK? No
Should we rotate Pickford with a 4.5 GK? No
Should we rotate Courtouis with another 4.5 GK? No

No! No! No! No! No! No!

Spend the 0.5 elsewhere. Think logically.

If he starts the season (big IF) do you not think there's a huge chance he could lose his place after on mistake?

So your logic is to keep a 4.5 goalkeeper in reserve just in case Ward makes a mistake and is dropped? You would really spend an extra 0.5 in reserve GK slot rather than on improving your starting 11? Thats such a waste of money to me. I would rather just change goalkeepers IF (and a big if) he was dropped, which is highly unlikely anyways.

    2. TheDonald
      • 5 Years
      5 years, 9 months ago

Logically, will he even be first choice for a long period of time?

Maybe spending that extra 0.5 is insurance for when he gets dropped.

Also, for those hard fixtures, it's not a bad idea to have a backup anyway.

Should you rotate Fabianski with another 4.5? Yes
Should you rotate Ryan with another 4.5? Yes
Should you rotate Lossl with another 4.5? Yes
Should you rotate Foster with another 4.5? Yes
Should you rotate Begovic with another 4.5? Yes
Should you rotate Hennessey with another 4.5? Yes

So if you get a Liverpool goalkeeper at a bargain price, why not rotate him?

      1. MysticMac17

Once confirmed as a starter, will he be first choice up until you play your first wild card? Thats the real question you should be asking and the answer is clearly YES if he starts the opening match.

So if you get a Liverpool goalkeeper at a bargain price, why not rotate him? Because you can use the extra 0.5 to improve your starting 11, rather than have it staying on the bench unused until/if (probably wont happen) Ward is dropped?

Lots of people posting teams on here without Salah in it, and then also posting teams with Ward and another 4.5 goalkeeper, drives me nuts.

Let me also point out that the majority of people on here are indicating that they are wildcarding early (week 4 or 5). So whats the odds Ward plays 4 games or less and is dropped? Very very high unlikely

    2nd draft...

    Karius 4.0 (bold I know!)
Bailey Stones Cedric Daniels 4.5 (everton?)
    KDB Mane Miki Pedro 4.5
    Kane Firmino Tosun

I'm obviously waiting on more news regarding Kane and KDB for gw1 before deciding, but I think this team is pretty alround, and I'd like to keep my WC for as long as possible. Either that or make a nailed on gw1-2 team and then use WC no matter what for gw3 when things has settled a bit down.

    Thoughts?
