Best Leicester City players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

The departure of Riyad Mahrez is the theme that runs throughout our latest detailed analysis for the new Fantasy Premier League season.

The Algerian leaves a big hole at Leicester City from both a goal-scoring and assist-providing perspective, meaning those left behind will have to up their game.

We’ve gone over last season’s underlying statistics to assess which players could fill the void and whether the Foxes are worth considering in 2018/19 without Mahrez.

Fantasy Football Scout members can view that data in the Members’ Area and also read our full analysis of it below to help them pick the best possible FPL team this season.

Really tempted by a 5-3-2 setup...

    Fabianski
    Davies | Robertson | Douglas | PVA | Coleman
    Salah | D.Silva | Groß
    Auba | Firmino

    4m | Kenedy | Cairney | Kamara

    What do we reckon?

Looks good Prefer Sigurdsson over Gross if you can find the extra 0.5m

True, suppose I could sacrifice Cairney to a 4.5.

What do you think of the 5-2-3 below too?

      Or even a 5-2-3:

      Fabianski
      Davies | Robertson | Douglas | PVA | Coleman
      Salah | Kenedy
      Auba | Firmino | Aguero

      4m | Cairney | 4.5m | 4.5m

I would be a little scared to go with Fabianski only. Early fixtures, new manager, etc. With this approach, I would also want someone more nailed than Dilva.

I started last season like that. You need to find 4.5 midfielder who start. Last season there were genuinely decent options at that price in RLC, Chalobah, Cork and T. Carroll. This season, what is there so far?

I would also go for Hughes over Kenedy if he's going to be starting most weeks, for sure.

You also miss out on the great value options in midfield (5.5-7.5m) that didn't exist last year.

Perfectly valid. I prefer Deulofeu and Aguero to Gross and Firmino tbh. The latter tick over nicely, but the former could do better than that imo. Kenedy strikes me as an odd pick. I wouldn't want him to be my first sub with those fixtures. You already have Cairney to cover Douglas' poor fixtures, so he seems like a long-term pick who you could buy at a later date.

Because there is lots of time until GW1, I took a stab at assembling a team with no City assets. Looked to maximize points per pound by investing heavy at the back. Also looked for talismen and attacking assets on set pieces, corners, and penalties. Tried to make this as much of a fire and forget team as possible. Tried to not pay much mind to short-term fixtures. Bailly and Bellerin are the biggest concerns. I think Bellerin is a high ceiling/high floor guy. Banking on Bailly starting GW1 and locking down his spot based on good performances and Mou’s habitual nature with selection. Critique away!

    Ryan

    Azpi/Robertson/Bailly/Bellerin

    Salah/Eriksen/Groß/Mili

    Auba/King

    Steele - Jiménez/Wilshere/Wan-Bissaka

      Foster instead of ryan?
      Slightly better fixtures.
Spurs will be destroyed by the world cup absentees so maybe wait on eriksen?
Huddersfield have horrible fixtures gross a no go.

Besides that I think you are good to go.
There was a Portguese fella on here saying he expects jimenez to do well in the premier league.

@captain - good point on foster. Interested to see Watford in preseason. Share the concerns about Spurs and Brighton, but not seeing both clubs not scoring and data shows Groß and Eriksen are likely to be involved. Other players at those price points aren’t necessarily even nailed.

      No Salah.
      No Arsenal cover
      Arsenal have poor fixtures.
Too many players new the league
Too many from the promoted teams
      Not enough captain choices
      Squad allows for no fleibility
You have picked too many who are not nailed.
Andy said you need chelsea players.
Jonty said he won't touch everton
      Everton have great fixtures
      Just copy marks team
Re-do that team it looks like Granvilles too much Man United
I don't like the goalkeeper rotation
Spending that much on one keeper is a waste.
      That striker is way overpriced.
I like the Lennon punt though

Anyone have any thoughts on what price Higuain might be if he joins Chelsea? If it's 10 or below could be a steal..

He scored 36 in 38 matches for Sarri three seasons ago, Chelsea will work to feed him the ball. Could be an epic fantasy player.

Why commit to a wildcard so soon? I've never understood this. It's the most valuable chip, by far, that we are handed.

      1. Postman Ty
        • 9 Years

First few gameweeks are always chaos, always. World Cup adds a whole other level on top of the chaos. It's the most valuable because it can fix big issues, and the first few weeks of information are usually when the biggest issues are found out.

Oh, I recognize that an early wildcard MIGHT be required, but to commit to it early seems unnecessary. Structure your team to (hopefully) succeed for the long haul with the transferring in of returning players here and there, and just wildcard when it ends up making the most sense.

So many people are actually choosing Ederson as their keeper. 58 saves... That ranks him 17th; lower than any other regular starter and behind even a few part-time keepers. They started to get found out and will regress a bit defensively this season in my opinion.

    1. Pierce34
      • 8 Years
      5 years, 9 months ago

I sort of agree. I mean, I see the point. Even without saves, people see Ederson as a reliable 6 points per match keeper with those easy fixtures. But I can easily see City winning 3-1 or 4-1 instead of keeping clean sheets. And as you said, there won't be saves.

    2. Netley Lucas
      • 8 Years
      5 years, 9 months ago

Isn't he being bought just to get nailed citeh cleanies for 5.5? Not bad value.

      1. Postman Ty
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

It is bad value though. No clean sheets are nailed and he's not picking up point anywhere else. You could save a million and match him depending how things fall. Fabianski is always a great shout.

It could work out, they could dominate again, I just think majority of people are mindless bandwagoners who see the premier league winner and hype (for his distribution, not even his keeping) and throw him in their team.

        1. Netley Lucas
          • 8 Years
          5 years, 9 months ago

Well it depends how you see citeh defensively this season. I think he has around 150pts in him which for 5.5 is fine. I do agree on the better 4.5's possibly matching that though, maybe Fab or Ryan, which would make them incredible value. Fair point though.

    3. FC Hakkebøf

Mendy and Kompany were injured last year and Laporte joined half way through the season, all City defenders are now fit this season, Danilo now has PL experience etc., and you .... err .... think they will regress defensively ?

      Interesting 🙂

      1. Postman Ty
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

Kompany's career is basically over, he's never going to complete even half a season injury free.
Mendy will be an improvement but it's not like Delph was ever really exposing them.
Laporte barely played because he wasn't up to par, and there's no guarantee that changes.
Danilo was never very good and 'PL experience' isn't going to suddenly change that.

So yes, I think they will regress. 18 clean sheets last season was well beyond what they average. Teams were afraid to play them until the final few months when Liverpool and others showed that attacking them is your best bet.

        1. Hotdogs for Tea
          • 8 Years

          Keepers ...
          - DDG may see clean sheets drop off due the huge number of shots he has to save
          - Fabianski may see his saves drop off because he is in a better team
          - Pope may be replaced by Heaton
.... that takes us down to the 140 point keepers

Your opinion that City will regress defensively is unsubstantiated and without any instrindic evidence or basis .... it’s just your view with no substance at all to back it up 😉

I don’t think people selecting a ‘pick and forget’ 5.5 keeper (means you can have a 4.0 back-up) that ranked second for points and clean sheets and is backed up by very few shots getting through to the keeper, means ‘mindless bandwagoners’ though, which is quite disingenuous and very much of a generalisation - actually the selection of Ederson seems rather the opposite to ‘bandwagoning’ and well considered imho 🙂

Good luck with your season 🙂

          1. Postman Ty
            • 9 Years

DDG/Fabianski, possibly. Pope/Heaton, completely irrelevant as we will have one of them for sure and both are great.

It's not unsubstantiated at all... I watched all of their games last season; as I said, towards the end of the season teams actually played against them instead of trying to park the bus.

Mindless bandwagoners are almost the entirety of this game. The vast majority of people don't finish the season, others take weeks off throughout, some follow it on here and just do what other people talk about, and a very small minority actually do their own research and make decisions.

I'm not saying he's a bad pick because he's popular; with the early fixtures he could actually be one of the best options to set and forget. Throughout the season though I doubt he will be in my team.

            Good luck to you.

Pope/Heaton may share minutes and it is a brave man who pins his colours to that mast

City had 3 clean sheets in the last 5 league games after the Liverpool losses, no regression there 🙂

How many other teams are able to attack City in the way Liverpool did? Can’t see that tactic being the template, too popular or successful, even for Liverpool again 😉

Scroll through the games, all kinds of crap teams scored against them. Any top 6 team can play them offensively, but those games tend to be lower scoring. Obviously nobody else can do it as well as Liverpool but that's not the point, they will still try.

Pay me £££ and I could sort it with percentage shares, left-right corners, direct/indirect free-kicks, the lot.

How are FFS going to workout setpiece takers 3 weeks from the start of the season?

Right now Rooney plays for Everton, Mahrez for Leicester and stoke, West Bromwich and Swansea are on the list.
Pretty sure they know that’s out of date. Also pretty sure they have a reasonable idea who took pens, corners and free kicks for Wolves, Fulham and Cardiff.

I'd rather they update it the week the season starts as it will be more accurate due the amount of friendlies that would have been played by then.

Eh, these guys haven't just been beamed down from another planet.
80 -90 % off set piece takers will be known from last season with addition of new signings.
It cam then get updated after a few gameweeks.

New signings, departures, new managers and a re-look at setpiece tactics will render last seasons takers null and void.

          Better to wait imo

Quite exciting that there seems to be a starting Palace defender at every price increment from 4m-5.5m and you can make an argument for all of them. Van Aanholt obviously the best if you pick him at the right time but in the long term Tomkins could prove better value as he has a decent aerial threat. Sakho's BPS and PPG are a cut above all of them though, he really is their leader defensively.

Please don't let me see another boring article on the Thai underground rave party.

What you want to see is another exciting RMT from me - wahey:

    Ederson - (Boric).

    VVD - Bailey - Douglas - Holgate - (Cedric).

    Salah - Sane - Hughes - (Cairney) - (Rall).

    Kun - Firmino - Zaha.

    Should I downgrade VVD?

Those players are not bad individually, but collectively that is a lot of average players making up half of your squad .... tough to rely on them every week, I know because I fell into a similar trap last season. Plus not sure Bailly is nailed.

I would consider saving some money on Kun & Ederson and strengthen / balance the squad through out 🙂

This is like the 3rd draft. What do you think

    Patricio / Fabianski
    Cedric Davies Mee Peltier Lascelles
    Seri Willian Salah Sanchez Sane
    Zaha Tosun Gray

Not sold on any of the big hitting strikers being ready for the opening 3 fixtures. Hence why I am light in attack.

u r light in attack, u r light in defence, u r light in GK; Apart from Salah & Sane, the rest of ur team stinks. if u r light in attack, go for attacking defenders. And get rid of sanchez.
