Best Manchester City players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

How do Pep Guardiola’s team follow the season just gone? Manchester City cantered to their fifth league title win with five matches of the 2017/18 campaign to spare, breaking a host of records along the way.

Their run of 18 consecutive victories from August to December was the longest winning sequence in English football history, while their total of 100 points was the most ever recorded in England’s top flight.

A total of 106 goals, a goal difference of +79 and a title-winning margin of 19 points were also Premier League records.

Investment in this City side is, as was the case last season, a must from a Fantasy perspective, particularly since the release of the fixture list in June.

After a trip to the Emirates in Gameweek 1 (a fixture City won 3-0 last season, it should be said), Guardiola’s side then face all six of the most recently promoted clubs – four of whom will take on City at the Etihad.

Fantasy Premier League managers would have a strong case for using all three of their permitted slots for City players, though the fly in the ointment is that 16 of the champions’ first-team squad were on duty for their respective countries at the World Cup this summer and Guardiola’s pre-season preparations have thus been affected.

Price hikes for the likes of Raheem Sterling (£11.0m), Leroy Sane (£9.5m) and Nicolas Otamendi (£6.5m) would also prohibit widespread Fantasy investment in City’s premium assets.

    A) Kane, Mkih, Sane
    B ) Auba, Eriksen, Mahrez

I think Kane plays so currently on A... plus not sure if Mahrez is a lock

Hey guys! I have 1.5 million in the bank and wanted to get advice on where to put it? Happy with my team however.

    Ederson - Ryan

Azpilicueta- Robertson - Vestergaard - Tarkowski - Schlupp

    Salah - Mahrez - Mkhitaryan - Cairney - Cavellairo

    Aguero - Wood - 4.5

Would you prefer Aubameyang or Aguero? Can’t afford both

Not keen on cheap strikers. If you can find the cash get another 6.5m striker which could bring in 125 points or so. There are a few at that price so if one doesn't work out you can always swap after a few weeks

          Vestergaard? No idea

Well, mata will be ok initially, then will be replaced by an emerging force (there's always one)

Emerson 5.5m is purely a placeholder for a vast array of 5.5m options. If none stand out I'll get Tomkins & upgrade Mata to Martial.

Didn't the dude who nearly won FPL (the guy on the scoutcast at the end) start with 4-3-3 last year? He certainly had 4 at the back.

              Don't see a great deal of difference in 4-4-2 & 4-3-3.

I think a 5.5m defender could outscore a similarly priced midfielder easily this year. That, in effect is the difference between 3-4-3 and 4-3-3.

Perhaps you should 'waste' time on FF in a more organized manner? 3 hours a day limit perhaps? 1 hour morning, middle and night? You do seem to be around a great deal. You are intelligent. Possibly a little too argumentative masking a problem in your social life/family? Just my observation.

I think both and the fact that everybody gets trolled by captaincy every year, so trusting Salah absolves them of the responsibility of choosing one every week, especially while Kane in isn't such a contender.

        You could be right.

It's beginning to remind me of Ronaldo before the 08/09 season on the back of his best season at United. He was £14m and everyone was terrified of going without him. As it turned out, he had a very ordinary season by his own standards, but people were still hesitant to sell him even several months into the season.

        1. Deulofail

Yeah, I don't buy into any ownership arguments, personally, until the last few GWs if you're chasing in your MLs. But as Brosstan says, he's a great captaincy option in the first two GWs, which would be the deciding factor for me if I do decide to go with him 🙂

Fear of falling behind really. I think he will have another great season but don't see him breaking 300 points again this season. Think he will be rested more and he also avoided injury very well last season.

I agree, i think he should hit 20 league goals anyway. You also have to wonder how much the last 11 months took out of him, as you said he was relatively fortunate with injuries (until CL final) and had very few rests.

Interesting zouma has been left out. Looking forward to seeing Barkley under sarri, as close as England get to Hamsik hope he makes it work would be perfect for Southgate. Morata would be entirely convenient too if he performs.
But yes David Luiz the only viable premier league starter in the squad but an interested to see what his first choice defense will be

Keita is a head case and a card magnet.
I completely disagree with so many teams here having Ederson. He'll have the least saves of any keeper and City have several defensive options that should yield nice attacking returns. Not to mention, DDG is just £0.5m more expensive.
Lovren unlikely to start the season, played 6 WC matches, 3 of which went 120 minutes
Shaw I suppose if he plays a significant portion of United's pre season, although it sounds as if he could leave.

Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic has met with his new agent to discuss a potential move to Chelsea this summer, according to reports in Italy. The 28-year-old was a key figure in Juve’s midfield last season with seven goals and 14 assists in 44 appearances.

I wouldn't judge him based on the World Cup. He's never produced for Argentina in big tournaments and they struggled collectively. He's still a great striker imo. Give him service and he will score.

Golovin seems very likely, and I expect that deal to be completed soon.

Rugani an option thats been around forever. Unsure on GK situation with Alisson to Liverpool.

Dont believe Higuain reports, think Morata stays and thrives. Monitor it though.

Finally Willian can still be sold. Possible RW coming in. Hope Hazard stays too.

Oh dear not good news for England then was hoping for some good competition between ROC and Barkley for that 3rd mid spot. Or can they fill the vacant RW spot after Willian leaves?

Rugani will be a class signing despite the amount of CBs you already have but 70m wow. Would you take Cech back?

Yeah I think hazard stays based on what Madrid are saying and will be good to see in an attacking side at last, one of my favourite players

Great options. Will always advocate martial, in my team, perfect placeholder for selecting best arsenal mid. Mahrez will be in big points but he just has to ply regularly for me i’d Probably only pick one because he’s out as soon as sterling returns I feel

Mahrez: Nailed in my team. A gift.

Martial 15 attacking returns in 17.4 games (avg 90 mins) & solid if you fsncy Man Utd early doors.

I may punt on Martial for the first couple before switching to an Arsenal mid. Seems like he will definitely start GW1 at the very least.

Prefer Sane to Mahrez atm but he's a great pick as well. Could end up switching to Mahrez depending on preseason and the Community Shield.

Being in Tennessee, USA, I rely on a million articles to get ready for the PL season. A couple of questions about unknown commodities to me.

Is Sorloth someone to watch, or is he just a couple of preseason games fluke?

Is Maddison worth taking a chance on, even though there are other, more known, 6.5 kids?

    Thanks everyone

Not sold on this Martial bandwagon. He's a transfer waiting to happen and that's no way to set up your team.

I know some are saying Arsenal mid placeholder, but when did Arsenal mids become FPL gold? They're a wait-and-see at best. Definitely not certain I'll want them in GW3.

      Good points.
But if Arsenal show any potential in the first 2 games I will do Martial to Ramsey.
Last year Ramsey did really well for minutes played. Willian is in the same category. Those 7.5 mids could be really good but need monitoring. And Willian probably does not start the season anyway either. But I want to structure to allow for these if required and hopefully reduced the numbers of transfers required by planning for it.

      1. Cok3y5murf
        • 7 Years

I agree Ramsey was good last season, but how was he in the seasons before that? That's why I said he's a wait-and-see. He may do well or he may be crap.

I don't remember Willian being a good option last season. He started firing and after everyone got him, he started blanking. I had him in the DGWs. And it also depends on how the Chelsea team looks if Hazard leaves and they get someone else.

Happy to take risks. But not through random speculation without a shred of evidence. "New manager could do wonders" is completely hypothetical. That's like me saying "I don't know why but I think Alli will win the Golden Boot" and picking him.

There's always some reasoning behind the moves we make.

Im thinking an unorthodox approach might be worth it. Playing around with a 4-5-1

    Foster /Fabianski *
Douglas VVD Robbo Mendy / WB
    Dilva Mahrez Salah Mkhi Pedro**
    Auba / Kamara Quaner

*GK combo to be switched to a 5.0 Che GK if Court leaves and a 4.0 bench fodder
** Only if Haz leaves and I get a feeling Pedro leaves, otherwise another 6/6.5mid

Plan to get Rambo in Pedro's place for GW3/4

Yeah that was same change I made to my draft aswell today.
It comes down to whether you think someone like Tosun does better than a Ramsey or possible Willian all have good fixtures.
Possible problem here is as follows. If you 1 attacker does not play you don't have a valid formation if the other 2 are bench fodder.

Actually I think Stanislas would be gold if he recovers.
Don't rate those two too highly.

I dont think we should look at it like that, but rather each player on his own. With Alisson signing I think thst the LIV defence will be the best, VVD has a significant attacking threat and Robo is basically a winger
