Best Newcastle United players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

Amid the never-ending discord between supporter, manager and much-maligned owner, Newcastle United’s 2017/18 campaign was one that any newly promoted Championship club would be happy to emulate.

Having bounced back from their relegation in 2015/16 at the first attempt, the Magpies finished tenth in the Premier League last season and only fell into the drop zone on two occasions throughout the season – one of which was on the opening weekend.

United had the seventh-best defensive record in the top flight (conceding four fewer goals than Arsenal) and the likes of Jamaal Lascelles and Martin Dubravka offered excellent value in Fantasy Premier League, priced as they were at £4.5m.

Ayoze Perez, meanwhile, was one of the stand-out budget forwards in the second half of the season, scoring six goals in the final eight matches of the season.

Price hikes for Lascelles, Dubravka and Perez, a lack of investment from Mike Ashley, and awful fixtures in the first eight Gameweeks will likely deter many FPL bosses from purchasing any Newcastle assets initially. However, Benitez’s ability to make his squad greater than the sum of its parts means that a handful of their budget picks are worth considering once the fixtures ease up.

In-depth data on Newcastle’s season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the key statistics in the article below.

With Wan-bissaka looking first choice - would you consider Tomkins --> W.B?

Then with the 0.5 would you do:

    A) Hughes --> Deulofeu
    B) Stephens --> Kenedy/5.0 mid

Deulofeu was nailed when fit. Only missed games through injury and fitness.

He started 10 times for Barcelona last season, and didn't look out of place. Quality player. Was a big part of their 4-1 win over Chelsea with a goal & assist.

Please could someone rank these Everton options in order:

    A) Tosun

    C) Walcott

All different prices, depends on who you pair them with. I'm going Richarlison (if moving to Everton as expected) and Wood/King as third attacker.

    Auba - Zaha

    4.0 - Bennett - Wan-Bissaka - Kamara

I think 352 only works when we can afford 4-5 more expensive mids. I would go with 442 with one more premium defender (Man U) until u get a 102m budget.

He'd have to scrap that draft though. With the bench giving nothing, downgrading Costa to a 4.5 only leaves 0.5 to upgrade the defence.

      Good question...

      Vorm
      Aurier/Sanchez/?/Bavies
      Wanyama/Sissoko
      Moura/Eriksen/Lamela
      Llorente

I recall him mentioning Sanchez coming back early and getting on with it... Eriksen I don't think will have many issues.

The rest is the filler... But I imagine a few more will be back come the 10th August.

In fact I reckon we're blowing the WC a little outta proportion. People who have named names i.e. Jose is more confirmed but I reckon more will start GW1 than we are suggesting on here.

Not sure you need Ryan if you have Ederson. Maybe downgrade him to a 4.0 goalkeeper and use the 0.5 to upgrade elsewhere? Also, I prefer Jota over Sessegnon. Your team is very well rounded but that also means that you will have quite a bit of money on your bench, so perhaps downgrade Deulofeu?

i dont think so, sane is left footed so his normal position should be on the right, he was playing on the left to provide width when mendy was injured

This. Pep started him on right in Sane's first games with Man City but he struggled a bit. Now with Sterling, Mahrez and Silva, I think Sane will only be used to provide width on the left.

Well to be fair they could. Last season Pep sais that with Mendy out Sane has to play wide, but that doesnt mean you can only have one wide player.

      1. Andy_Social
        • 11 Years

Right. Sane cutting in, Mendy overlapping. Plus Pep doesn't have his wingbacks stay wide anyway.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with this. Quite possible he meant they couldn't play together in a wing-back formation (which is what he was using at the time). In a 4-3-3, it seems absurd to think he wouldn't use them both as a matter of principle.

            1. Pukki Party
              • 6 Years

Yeah there is a video where Thierry Henry explains how Pep wants the wingers to stay wide for as long as possible in a 433. Sane is the best City winger to do this, but as we saw last season Sterling is better at cutting in and finding goalscoring positions in the final third (when the wingers are allowed and should go in the box). Really worth a watch the video

Yes, me too. I'd also consider downgrading Hughes (although I do like him) and putting an extra million into the Cedric upgrde and playing a definite 4-4-2. Or just try and find a starting 5.0 defender you like. It's solid, though. Like it.

Question marks over Mendy, Cedric and Ricarlison (just because... Have you seen the guy shoot?)

Other might not get in their teams GW1... Remains to be seen.

I like the balance overall but would probably go with 2x 4.5m keepers and rotate... Or a more primo one to set and forget.

Aren't Mane and Sane both 9.5m? Your defender choice shouldn't make a difference on which you choose. Which one do you think will score more points? I'm going with Mane.

Mmm, not for me. Horrible defence.
Rare to see an RMT with Valencia - nailed but too expensive for me. Robbo is a good pick.
Keane - no offensive threat, so wait to see which 4.5 lines up with him. Daniels - Bou can't keep a clean sheet. Peltier - 4m punt, may not keep his place.

I happen to be a big fan of 'light-up-top', going for a 5-4-1/4-5-1 formation myself. However, I wouldn't do it your way.

      1. Captain option - you have none. Therefore, Salah is essential.
      2. Defence - you can get far better value.
I'm not confident Spurs will start well; they'll have a second-string defence and mostly away fixtures early doors, so I'd avoid Davies. Not Daniels - Bou couldn't keep cleanies last year and haven't strengthened. Valencia is 0.5m too much for me.

Sorloth worth monitoring at 5.0. Not nailed, but likely to be involved - especially with Benteke injury doubts and Zaha transfer speculation.

Great video. Still think he's slightly overstating the structure point. If someone went for that 541, they would simply have to be happy to downgrade Salah or Aubameyang if they want to make a big upgrade elsewhere. So it's a viable formation if someone's happy with that. It's still easy to make smaller upgrades of up to, say 0.5-4.5m.
