Best Spurs players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

2017/18 was a season of mixed fortunes for Fantasy owners of Tottenham Hotspur players.

Harry Kane matched his best-ever single-season haul for league goals (technically beating it after the Premier League goals accreditation panel retrospectively awarded him Christian Eriksen’s strike in the 2-1 win over Stoke City), but will also be remembered for frustrating blanks in home matches against Swansea City, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Hove Albion, West Ham United and Huddersfield Town. A fair share of Fantasy Premier League managers will, meanwhile, still be ruing their “Kanexit” strategy in December when the England striker punished his deserting owners with back-to-back hat-tricks.

Christian Eriksen‘s total of 11 strikes (one subsequently scratched) was his best goal haul in a Premier League season, but the Danish international recorded only half of the assists (ten) he had managed in 2016/17.

Dele Alli scored 50 fewer FPL points in 2017/18 than he had managed the previous campaign, with his goal tally (nine) exactly halved. Even Son Heung-min‘s goal (12) and assist (eight) returns, as impressive as they were, were down on 2016/17.

Spurs’ wing-backs, most notably Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier, coupled their clean sheet prospects with regular attacking returns but were at the mercy of Mauricio Pochettino’s irksome rotation policy on the flanks; not one of the Lilywhites’ four full-backs started more than 26 league matches in 2017/18.

The north London club are, at least, a comfortingly unchanging presence amid this summer of big-money moves and new manager recruitment. At the time of writing, Spurs were one of only two Premier League clubs – the other being Burnley – who have yet to sign a player during the current transfer window.

Pochettino will be taking charge of Spurs for the fifth successive season, meanwhile, and we can expect the same brand of quick-pressing, attacking football he has cultivated in his four years at White Hart Lane. Although Pochettino occasionally rolled out a three-man backline in 2017/18, we will inevitably see more of the Argentinean coach’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system again this season.

In-depth data on Spurs’ season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the key statistics in the article below.

How exactly have Man Utd dropped to 6th? They were 2nd last year and this is a JM team that knows how to defend. People talking like they haven't signed anyone. Well, Sanchez was signed in Jan and Sanchez, Lukaku, Pogba, Matic, Fred, Bailly, Lindelol were all signed to improve the team in the last year or two. You can't keep giving up on players after 1 season and start signing new ones every window.

Let's say you have a solid team and are considering benching Marhez for the first week against Arsenal. Would it make sense to trade him out for a cheaper option and keep the money in the bank, then transfer him or whoever else looks good in the ManC midfield in for GW2?

You must put a lot of emphasis on fixtures.
Don't plan to make transfers, if you want him from week 2 then get him in from the start.

I mean I get that, but what if he doesn't appear to be the engine of the midfield? what if Sane gets the more advanced roll or opportunities? or perhaps he sits with the return of Sterling and KDB?

and yes, I'm currently placing more emphasis on fixtures as there's no form to go off of.

How do you decide who you put in? Both Sane and Mahrez play good for instance. City have ridiculous depth, they could both be benched in GW2. Id argue against planned transfers as there are normally other things you have to check. Could just as easily work though.

I think I'm on the minority here, but I do like your Vardy pick. I also like Gudmundsson.

Not a fan of Richarlison and Mili though. Would you consider going Richarlison-Cairney, Mili-Rambo, Jagielka-Coleman?

I'm not quite sure about how nailed Rich is, just as much as I'm unimpressed with his form by the end of the season. Mili also doesn't strike me as someone worth his price.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. :p

I wouldn't pick milo anyway. i don't think he's worth it either. But I also don't see Cairney better value than Milo

I don't see that many options that would be so much better than Cairney at 5.0. At the same time though I can see several 6.5 options ahead of Mili in my book.

But then again, if Cairney's worth 5.0 or not, he sure as hell ain't worth arguing for, haha.

The general consensus seems to be that Ramsey isn't worth the 0.5 over Mkhitaryan, who even had an article labelling him potentially essential.

Ramsey only just over 100 more minutes but managed 7 goals and 10 assists to Mkhis 3 and 9.

Add to that Ramsey is only beaten on PPM last season by Salah, Sterling, Silva, KDB and Sane (same as Eriksen, Mahrez, more than Hazard, Mane etc.)

I get that things change but when Ramsey is playing consistently he as shown a lot more than Mkhitaryan in the PL.

Tough, coleman and pva are most nailed and both have great fixtures. so if you don't want a rotation risk I'd go those two. However, bailly should start from beginning and as long as he stays healthy he should remain a starter. I actually like bellerin as an option beginning gameweek 3, but really don't know how arsenal will be defensively and if he starts every game.

Not really. Ref bottled a sure penalty...I mean it’s pre season. Let the fans enjoy the game with some excitement! Reffing it like it’s the champions league finals in the last 5 minutes and there’s no chance of getting a call.

Salah and Mané should make second half appearances so there’s that to look forward to

What are your thoughts on Mahez vs Sane? Or both?

If you could please rate my team:
    Patricio
    Mendy-Bailly-Robertson
    Jorginho-Jota-Siggy-Salah
    Tosun-Auba-Agüero

    Bench: Speroni, Cedric, Gunnarson, Peltier

Good to go, but the forward line has placed a strain on your midfield. 8.5/10

Thanks, I was also considering to maybe re-invest some money from forward ( Firmino for Aguero) and use it to get some 9-9.5 midfielder

Sane with an absolute sitter from 5 yards out and puts it right into the goalie. Must be the new hair style?

Good save by the keeper, who isn't Karius
