Best Watford players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

With just over a week to go until the 2018/19 season begins, Watford players aren’t proving to be popular purchases in the Fantasy Premier League community.

The Hornets are one of only two clubs – the other being newly promoted Cardiff City – who don’t have a single player with an FPL ownership of 5% or more.

This isn’t a huge shock, looking at last season’s figures: the Hertfordshire club had the third-worst defensive record in the top flight and only one of their players – central midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure (£6.0m) – scored more than five league goals. Richarlison, meanwhile, departed for Everton last week.

Javi Gracia’s side are third-favourites for relegation with some bookmakers and their form from Gameweek 14 onwards last season – the Hornets won more matches (six) before this point than they did in their remaining 25 games (five) – was that of a team fighting the drop.

Watford’s opening three fixtures this season are enticing, however: home matches against Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace sandwich the Hornets’ trip to Burnley, who could be in UEFA Europa League action either side of that encounter.

Encouraging underlying defensive statistics, the pre-season form of Andre Gray (£6.0m) and a tactical system that encourages their full-backs to attack are worthy of note, too – all of which we will expand on in the article below.

In-depth data on Watford’s season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the key statistics in the article below.

2nd one. Start with Cairney and swap him to Kenedy later once the fixtures ease up. And then swap Davies to Trippier(once he returns).

Richarlison 😆 no attacking returns last 21 games. Reunited with Silva won't help the fact he has a horrific conversion rate

    Hey guys,

The aim of my team is to focus on attacking defenders (which I view as better value than miss at the same price), while also having a strong 1st sub to rotate. Salah will be perma-captain.

Is this team a viable squad or is the whole premise flawed.

    DDG

    Robertson, Mendy, Bailly, Coleman, PVA

    Salah (C), Richcarlson

    Aguero, Arnie, Zaha

    (4.0 GK, Ramsey, Cairney, Ward)

I don't know, I have a feeling that clean sheets may be hard to come by in the first couple of weeks. So many defences are under powered.

maybe downgrade PVA to Wan-Bissaka too

I find I don't like the upgrades when I downgrade PVA.

Maybe Ramsey to Mahrez, but it really weakens my bench which could be important due to rotation in top teams.

        Got me thinking though...

Pedro couldn't get into Chelsea's team. Something could be wrong with his attitude or of course he pissed Conte off. Rich was knackered after the winter as he played throughout the summer in Brazil with no rest. This season could be different though.

Azp 100% but the others are a bit of a mystery. Think Rudiger should be there and then Luiz/Christ. Alonso has a lot of preseason but maybe Emerson?

Or Zappa on the right and Azp in the middle?

I dont get why people think Salah will score less this season. Ok he will get marked by defenders more, but if he improves his conversion rate (which he should) along with the likelyhood that he will get *more* chances due to an improved squad - I think he scores more.
He will beat his own record.

    Thoughts on the following team?

I'm trying to focus on players who didn't play in the wc or there are clear indications they will play.

    Ederson (steklenberg)
VVD - Luiz - Schlupp (AWB - Hoedt)
    Salah - Mane - Mahrez - Mkhi - B Silva
    Morata - Wood (Quaner)

    0.0m itb

Will make a final decision on b Silva after the charity shield though

      Apparently Schlupp isn't nailed.

Your ATT is going to get some negativity but I like Wood. Morata should start early with Giroud having a holiday after the WC.

      The rest is good

Didn't know that about Schlupp. I've gone for him as he's oop. I'll keep an eye on remaining palace fixtures in that case.

I went for Wood as burnley are in the EL. I'm expecting them to be more match ready and he's always scored a few when fit and in the team.

Good team with some very nice punts, would swap VVD for Robertson though as I feel Robbo has more potential and Schlupp for Tomkins as he's more nailed. I like that you have options if a punt goes wrong e.g. Ramsey & Firmino/Lacazette.

        Good shout on Tomkins

Big Virgil is due a few goals, he should have had one against the mancs and I just fancy him to get a few. No stats to back that up, just my own opinion.

I'm looking at Lacazette etc from wk3 onwards

"Rashford, Jones, Lukaku, coming back three days early."

I think there is a good chance that Lukaku will start or at least feature against Leicester City.

I, personally think he will miss 1 and be a sub for the second (based on previous WC returners)

No one will start with Lukaku regardless and while it reduces Sanchez's appeal it isn't the absolute deal breaker (like starting with Llorente for example)

I have both but I'd sooner drop King due to Bournemouth just being far worse than Burnley. I have this image of them as a gung-ho attacking team but I think this season they'll really struggle to score goals. King isn't even nailed, too.

I'd been hoping he'd get more pre season returns to add confidence in him.

I think so, but we honestly have no idea.

He should accrue more bonus points and possibly G + A due to being more clinical and generally better than Charlie. He also SHOULD be in the No. 10 behind Tosun which could lead to more involvement. Lots of shoulds and mights.

The Man City situation is really doing my head in.

    - I don't like premium GKs so refuse to get Ederson.
    - Mendy isn't remotely nailed and hasn't played any preseason.
    - The rest of the defs are a minefield or too expensive (Otamendi at 6.5 is a possibility..)
    - KDB and Sterling (overpriced) won't play before GW2 earliest
    - Dilva is old and not nailed and neither are Bilva, Sane or Mahrez
    - Jesus is garbage
    - Kun is FPL gold but simply isn't guaranteed to start with Jesus loitering about, therefore I'd hesitate to captain him, therefore he isn't worth his price tag

Despite this, I desperately feel I need to triple up given their fixture run after Arsenal. They could score 35 goals and concede max 1 in that run.
    Gaaaarrgh.

      Gks I like.

Azpi Ward v good, Cedric is alright and probably WB. Daniels needs to go about 3 GWs so beware.

Salah v good, Silva good for the start if Pep makes the right noises. Don't understand why anyone has Sanchez. I'd prefer nearly any other player at 11 (apart from Lukaku).

Jota is this season's Redmond/Ritchie/Gray etc

Firmino good and probably King as well, I'd watch with Everton though.
