Meet the Manager #6 – Adam Hopcroft (Choppers13)

Over his eight campaigns, Adam Hopcroft has finely tuned a bespoke management style that pays close attention to underlying statistics, the Season Ticker and the good old-fashioned eye test.

With five top 10,000 finishes, including two within the top 1,000, it’s a strategy that has clearly paid off.

Adam looks on course for another strong finish this time out too, with a current placing in the top 30,000.

Here he discusses in detail the key statistics he pays particular attention to and why medium, not short-term, upcoming fixtures guide his Season Ticker.

Each year he also gathers more information about players, which helps decide whether strong underlying statistics herald a point blitz or disappointment.

Adam then applies his tailor-made statistics and fixture analysis to the current campaign to reveal the players he is looking to ditch and those he is keen to bring in.

The chat with Adam is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

both TAA and Gomez played... Surely Kloop will want more attacking threat vs Cardiff at home??

No idea what I'm gonna do with TAA, could drop to Holebas who has some nice fixtures as well. What are you thinking of doing?

    Morning all. Appreciate your thoughts on the following;

Kane + Gudmon to Salah and Ings
    or
    Kane + Gudmon + Rich to Salah + Arnie + Murphy (-4)

    Cheers

With the Ings move, i'd likely do Mitro to Arnie in the coming weeks.

Bring one of the following in: Robertson, Mendy, Rudiger
Already have Alonso, although Rudiger's stats are very tempting

Only changes I would consider Eddie are Fraser out to equivalent or cheaper with better fixtures and if downgrading allows potential upgrade of Ings?? Rest looks solid!

I've considered it. However plan is to play four at back and rotate Fraser and Ings for their fixtures which actually works out alright. Otherwise it would be Mitro and fodder.

My issue is its very template. Looks like a variation of teams that have done well over the past few gameweeks. Not much looking to the future

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

It is not that different to my current team, which has been doing well so perhaps that is influencing my decisions. That and the money I've got stuck in players like Fraser Doherty and Ings so that if I was to lose them it would be for someone cheaper.

If the only issue is template, I can handle that.

I just think if you wildcard you need to be looking at future fixtures. Fraser has had his look in and performed admirably. I noticed you mentioned a rotation with Ings but I think you can target the fixtures better

Damn, thought I had it nailed. Which players / teams would you be bringing in at this point then? My only concern is not having more City or Liverpool, but think I have the right players.

Yeah. I'll have a tinker. My issue is that I think Fraser is going to continue to be good value. Him and Ings rotating gives me
FUL MUN new ful MUN HUD car over next 7 which doesn't look half bad.

Very good. Concern that Fraser 1 good fixture before Bournemouth fixtures get harder and difficult price point for other options. Schurrle? Ings stats also fallen so perhaps Jiminez better bet at that price.

Yep, I'm aware of Bournemouth's turn in fixtures, see above. I'm just a whisker away from being able to afford Jim now unfortunately so it would downgrading elsewhere to improve on Ings.

I would keep Wan-Bissaka instead of getting Balbuena. I don't think you'll play Balbuena much over the next few weeks if at all. Just bench AWB for his tough fixtures. The money saved could come in handy later in the season.

It's a gamble, I'm counting on West Ham having turned a defensive corner, but willing to give it a shot. Worst comes to worst I bring in a Watford defender or play Doherty every weel.

Fair enough but looking at how strong your squad is you'd be switching between 4-4-2 and 3-4-3 etc. quite a lot so it's not just a straight rotation between Doherty and Balbuena.

I sold AWB because I'm planning on playing 5 at the back sometimes, otherwise I would have kept him. I have some regrets about selling him. He's been FPL gold so far for 4m starting price. I always think it's handy to have a bit ITB too.

That's just my opinion though and you've done your research on the great rotation with Doherty. I can see arguments for both sides TBH

I know. I have same concerns about losing him, but I would not be surprised if he drops 0.1 over coming weeks and then I can bring him back in if needed.

It would be 433 or 442 with only Doherty / Balbuena and Fraser / Ings rotating. But I am aware that this could all fall apart after a couple injuries and my concern is how precarious relying on rotation is. A slightly more expensive set and forget first 11 is much simpler, but doesn't necessarily allow the same quality of bench.

Thanks for the input, it's really appreciated.

Yes gtg this week but fair chance TAA does not play but you have Jiminez on bench to come in and potentially AWB for Hazard.

I would consider Vardy to Arnie, TAA to Robertson at some point and goalies could be improved- perhaps to Ryan (or Fabianski) and Button which would also release cash.

Can’t see why not but Mendy will be subject to rotation in some games so ensure decent sub.

Who would you rather bring in this week...Mane or KDB?

One thing I haven't noticed from meet the manager yet that is really interesting to me is: do these top managers go all in (2-3) players from a team when they have good fixtures/form? Do they double on attack or defence, or limit it to one attacker and one defender from each team?

I doubt they have a rule quite as formulaic as that. If they're doing well, they'll get them in... It would depend on the state of your team and players+formation as well.

Oh I'm sure, hardly anything in this game can be a set rule, it's all situation-dependant. But just thinking in general terms, obvisouly they all seem to like this penny pinching bench, which means you basically have to play your starting 11 every week, so if you're doubled up on a defence that has one bad fixture you're automatically in a bad situation that week(s).

Ah I see what you mean. Hmm good question I guess. I like having two options on the bench with one fodder. WanB has made this cheap and easy this year.

I've wondered that myself, what the cut off point is. Triple Liverpool/City seems a no-brainer on paper, but I'm always put off by the idea for some reason.

Probably because it isn't a no brainer on paper. Double defence of each + Aguero and Salah is defensible, but you'd be missing out on defensive value then and the oppurtunities for other premium defenders would wane too. You could punt on a city mid and wait for them to get benched, but why give yourself that problem.

Yeah, I mean there might be an argument for Lovren in a treble-up right now, but it still teeters on overkill to my eyes. I didn't understand the scramble for every Wolves asset, personally.

Mourinho style of play, lack of certainty about his starting place, and United general form doesn't make him a great pick.

But when he plays his fpl scoring rate is exceptional, same last season

Not to be done all at once, just planning:

    A) Hennessey + Chilwell >>> Ederson + Mendy
    B) Hennessey + Chilwell + Richarlison >>> Ederson + Mendy + Bilva
    C) Bennett + Richarlison >>> Mendy + Bilva
    D) Chilwell + Fraser >>> Mendy + Bilva
    E) Hennessey + Bennett >>> Ederson + Mendy
    F) Hennessey + Fraser >>> Ederson + Bilva

    Current squad:

    Patricio Hennessey
    Alonso Robertson Chilwell Doherty Bennett
    Hazard Mane Maddison Richarlison Fraser
    Lacazette Mitrovic Wilson
