Meet the Manager #7 – Jay Egersdorff

Jay Egersdorff is not afraid to make bold moves.

It’s been a key feature of a stellar Fantasy Premier League career that has seen him finish within the top 10,000 in all but two of his previous 12 campaigns.

This track record includes three top 1,000 finishes, two of which saw him miss out on a spot in the top 100 by less than half a dozen places. He is also the reigning Career Hall of Fame number one, having topped our list at the end of last season.

Jay joins me in our latest Meet the Manager video to look over his impressive career and explain more about his rationale for making bold moves, often involving multiple hits.

Sometimes they can be costly, as with last season when he gave up a place in the top 100 by taking three hits and jettisoning Harry Kane ahead of back-to-back hat-tricks.

That failed “Kanexit”, as well as this season’s Kane-related disaster, are discussed, as are the times when being a maverick has paid off.

This includes his decision to improve his squad by swapping Mohamed Salah for his cheaper teammate, Sadio Mane, this season. With green arrows ever since he looks to be well on his way to overturning a disastrous start that saw him almost edge out of the top one million places back in Gameweek 6.

Jay also explains how he is unable to move to his favoured 3-5-2 set up and why he is happy to play the patient game for now. Although given his career history, another maverick move may be just around the corner.

The chat with Jay is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

Harry Kane at 4.5 yes. Isaac Sucess No.
    Do I understand the bandwagon??????????????

Success is ok pick for NON playing 3rd striker. Dunno why people actually get him and play him.

Josh Murphy at 0.3m more looks a far superior option.

Without a doubt. The only reason I can see is to move away from 3 up front to 5 mids or 4 at the back. Murphy might fall out of the equation then.

    G2G?

    Fabianski
    Alonso Mendy Robertson
    Salah Hazard Richarlison Pereyra
    Aguero Mitrovic Success

    Hennessey Fraser Bennett AwB

Not sure on whether to play Success or Fraser.

      Same
      Same Same Same
      Same Same Barkley Seri
      Same Same Arnie
      Same Same Doherty Same
What do you think of my side with Fraser playing

      1. Differential C (Mark)

Nice that you went Arnie already, he's straight in my team for Mitro next week.
Not personally sold on Barkley, but its your call. and Seri is meh.
        I'd play Fraser over Seri?

        1. Eze Really?
          • 9 Years

As I said Seri not in 1st 11. just to show team similarity.
I have never got a spare Seri transfer to use. Stuck with im since GW3

With that team you basically never play Success. Terrible pick and player.

Had to put him.in to fund H.Costa->Pereyra, really. With Deeney injured(?), though he might've been nailed for the time being.

Best captain out off this lot

    Patricio
    Alonso, Duffy, Lascelles
    Mane, Salah, Hazard, Maddison
    Aguero, Wilson, Ings

Subs: Hamer, Billing, Bennet, Wan Bissaka

I've put it on Kun, but Salah is another option.
Hazard, Im not too keen. AwB has been brilliant so far, he kept a rampant Mane sustained during the Crystal Palace - Liverpool matcj earlier in the season. Suspect Hazard wont find it as easy as peiple make it to be.

      Salah = tough fixture
      Hazard = uncertain starter
Aguero = good fixture and high % of captaincy pick

Aguero looks an easy winner to me.

What are the chances Mitrovic goes down to 6.8?

Got no money in the bank. ZAHA just dropped to 6.8, and was looking at a straight swap if Mitro goes down.

If you're after profit he would have been a nice purchase before the 2 rises.

Personally prefer more nailed on players. Avoided the whole Willian/Pedro situation.

      Now it's Fabregas/Barclay/Kovacic/Lotus Cheek.

I'd just opt for Pereyra in that price bracket.

    Best option out of these?

    A) Murphy
    B) Diangana
    C) Camarasa

Leaning towards Diangana for the fixtures and because he rotates well with Doherty.

    Cheers! 🙂

Just play Doh week in and week out. His goal threat is probably three times that of the others on your list.

      1. Karan14
        • 8 Years
        5 years, 5 months ago

Agree with you there. Who would your pick be out of these 3 though? If Diangana wouldn’t you start him as he’s up against Burnley at home?

    2. Garyrobinson66
      • 5 Years

I like the look of Diangana but difficult to say if hes nailed right now and in the current state of FPL you need a starting bench

Yup he’s good player to rely on for 2 points most weeks. Takes some set pieces so has an outside chance of getting an assist or two.

Probably going like this in gw11:

    Ederson
    Alonso Robertson Mendy
    Hazard Mane Richarlison Fraser Barkley
    Aguero Wilson

    Patricio Doherty Mitrovic Bennett

Not sure whom to play between Fraser Doherty Mitrovic.
Mitro has the best fixture but the worst form..

Are any of these transfers worth a -4 hit?

    A) Mitrovic > Arnautovich ?
    B) Trippier > Mendy ?
    C) Do nothing

    My current team is:

What was the transfer you made for reference?

I wouldnt reccomend A as much as I rate Arnie, Mitro has a healthy fixture
B would tempt me but you have to look at it this way, do you think mendy will make up the 4 points on tripp? Its possible but how likely. More than 50%? what if tripp goes double figures again..

Anyone interested in Snodgrass? Is he nailed now? How does he look, passed eye test?

He is on a lot of set pieces but not sure how nailed. Barkley is who everyone is looking at in that price range but snoddy might be a decent punt with the fixtures

Only saw the Spurs-WHU game two weeks ago. Passed the eye test, definitely. Interesting pick, but Arnie still the standout WHU pick for me.

Are these moves crazy for -4? Really want Mendy and arnie! Would move to playing 4 at back after this week with Doherty coming in for taa after Fulham and rotate Fraser/Jimenez

Awb richarlison/Maddison Mitrovic to Mendy Camarasa arnie (-4)

    Ryan (button)
    RAM (taa Bennett)
    Hazard salah Fraser richarlison/Maddison (Camarasa)
    Aguero arnie Jimenez

Why don't you just do AWB & Maddison/Richarlison to Mendy/Camarasa and avoid the hit.

Really don't think Mitro to Arnie is worth -4. Mitro playing Huddersfield could even outscore Arnie playing Burnley.

Mitro plays Liverpool next week. Do the change for free then.

Quite interesting for anyone who hasn't seen this. Surely a deluge of penalties to start with if the handball one gets altered.

Don't agree with the handball one, too easy for a player to flick.it onto an opposing player's hand. The penalty one, I can accept.

Maybe players would start keeping their arms close to their body like they should then. Will only be a problem for defenders who are trying to cheat by keeping their hands out wide to block shots.

Yeah it's interesting- watch Koscielny- he always has both hands behind his every time he closes someone down. Can't be that hard to do and learn from.

    A) Captaincy with Salah
    GW11: Hazard (CRY)
    GW12: Salah (FUL)
    GW13: Salah (wat)
    GW14: Hazard (FUL)
    GW15: Salah (bur)

    B) Captaincy with Aguero
    GW11: Aguero (SOU)
    GW12: Hazard (EVE)
    GW13: Aguero (whu)
    GW14: Hazard (FUL)
    GW15: Aguero (wat)

interesting q i have sterling (c) but no aguero..

If you guys look at your teams and what you want to do over the upcoming weeks, and realise a hit soon is inevitable, do you just take the hit right away?

I want to restructure a bit to double up on Salah and mane and need to remove Trent. Seems a decent week to ship him out for balbuena but I'm also removing Hennessey for fab so it would be for a -4. Definitely not worth a hit in isolation but still feels right if I have to take a hit a few weeks down the line anyway. Thoughts?

    1. noquarternt
      • 8 Years

Strange to see you posting something like this and not winding people up.

    2. noquarternt
      • 8 Years

But on a serious note, the hit right away is a good investment if you're expecting instant returns and the fixtures are good. For example your double up v Fulham is definitely worth it and v Arsenal is probably worth it.

        • 9 Years

All of that made sense until you suggested switching a keeper for -4. I would just make that move next week.

Hennessey will get 0 points and I will be in the same situation next week.

Depends on the immediate fixture and whether it's worth rolling the dice on the hit. In your case Fabianski plays Burnley at home, Hennessey plays Chelsea away. I'd take the hit this week imo.

      1. Brosstan
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 5 months ago

Yes I'm thinking the same. Might not be standard as it involves a -4 for a gk but it seems worth it. I considered it last week and it would have paid off then. Regretting it a bit.

If I was going to bring in a 2md Chelsea midfielder it wouldn't be Barkley. It would be Willian.

    More starts
    More chances created
    More shots taken
    Better heat map

    1. noquarternt
      • 8 Years

Yeah I dunno, Willian just never appeals to me. He never gets big scores or serious goal returns. I'd go Pedro over him, but nonone aside from Alonso and Hazard is the most likely.

Willian's one of the more underrared players this seaosn. Doesnt ge ttoo nuch hype cuz Hazard has been on fire, ofc, but Willian has also done his job very well when called upon. Pedro is the concern, though.

I presume the whole point of the Barkley bandwagon is his cheap price though! Haz & Alonso is plenty CHE imo!
