How Richarlison has adapted to centre-forward role at Everton

Richarlison (£6.9m) has made a mockery of recent suggestions that he cannot play as a centre-forward for Everton.

Two weeks ago we compared his first two performances in that position against his displays as a left attacking midfielder and discovered some discouraging results.

However, it appears both Richarlison and his manager Marco Silva were spurred on by the criticism. They stuck to their guns and persisted with the new role, and in the last two Gameweeks the Brazilian has registered two goals and an assist, averaging 10 points per game.

We are now revisiting the data to see whether or not Richarlison really has adapted to a striker’s role and if recent performances are sustainable or not.

Planned to bank my FT, but Maddison ruled out is forcing my hand. Bench options are Gunnarsson (LEI) or AWB (TOT).

    So, Maddison > ...
    1) Richarlison
    2) Martial
    3) Willian/Barkley/Pedro
    4) Lamela
    5) Other
    6) Still save the FT

Is Kovacic seen as more defensive than Barkley?

Never really watched him play so not sure what type of player he is.

Box to box midfielder. Quite neat, doesn't give the ball away. Takes less risks than Barkley.

    A. Play Richarlison and leave Maddison on my bench

    B. Take a hit to replace Maddison(Have 1.0 ITB so suggestions on who to get appreciated)

Anyone else concerned about Hazard playing in Europa League today?

I have 2 free transfers with Maddison in my team. Was planning on downgrading Salah to Mane and upgrading Maddison to Martial/David Silva after this game week.
Who would you bring in for a one week punt if Salah doesn’t perform and I decide to downgrade? 6.7m budget.

The stats are great but watching Richarlison you get a feel for how well he plays the role.

Physically he's a nightmare match-up, has the build to compete with PL centre-backs aerially but also blistering pace and relentless work-rate for 90 minutes. He's so good on the ball and that reflects in his hold-up play, his ability to take-on players is an added dimension for him as a centre-forward and similar to Zaha in the way he wins fouls high up the pitch after recovering second-balls and creates opportunities from nothing. His new role has cut out the wide penalty area 'cut inside' shooting that he did relentlessly last year and he's now the main presence in the box, showed intelligent centre-forward runs like the one across the centre-back for his first goal on Saturday.

Really impressive from the best Brazilian forward in Liverpool right now.

They're totally different players and shouldn't really be compared but for me Bobby at his worst is still streets ahead of Richarlison at his best

I think if you put Richardson in Firmino's role at Liverpool he would be just as good but that's just me.

          • 6 Years

He has the power and work rate but not the vision, chance creation, linkup play, finishing and pretty much all of Firmino's "defend from the front" attributes, so it wouldn't work at all in Klopp's team. Great young talent in his own right but not for the Firmino role...

I think he isn't far off Firmino in most of those brackets, I can see what you mean about the role, I guess it is just me wanting to see something more complimenting for Mané/Salah as wide players.

Richarlison is a fire and forget at < 7m, for me. If he's good enough to make the Brazil squad and play centre forward, then I'm keeping him for the season at that price.

      1. Parm
        • 12 Years
        5 years, 5 months ago

Oh totally, he's on for a 15+ goal season as it stands which is insane for that price. Martial is a tad more expensive and I have similar thoughts about him now he's well established in this United team, both are 'essential' for me.

        1. Twisted Saltergater
          • 14 Years

Yep, brought Martial in this week, finally. So I'm rocking Salah, Mané, Martial, Richarlison, Barkley in a 352. Need to get Hazard back in sooner rather than later!

I wasn't close to selling him but was a bit worried he wasn't getting returns and I thought Tosun would steal some starts.

No brainer to keep him now 🙂

Don't let doubling up on West Ham put you off Anderson if you have no money in the bank for Martial and already have Richarlison. Pick players on individual merit and future returns. Nailed, great fixtures, good form, and if you have Doherty/Jimenez they cover the City game in GW12.

I'd go Vardy, he has good fixtures, he's a differential and I'd do it if you have already have Salah or Mane. He's also a bit cheaper. I got rid of Firmino last week for Arnautovic, don't like how Firmino has been dropping so deep recently.

Terrible article that shows how far this site has sunk .
2 weeks ago , on just 2 weeks data I hear scoutcast was saying he was such a bad proposition now up front .
Another 2 weeks data and he’s now gold ?

“He has finally adapted to playing centre forward role”

Stats are pretty meaningless in such a small sample .
