Captains

Captain Sensible – Salah favourite but Liverpool underwhelm ahead of Fulham

Liverpool are expected to be heavily backed in the Gameweek 12 captaincy discussion, but they have proved underwhelming in recent weeks.

A home match against the league’s worst defence seems like the ideal time to hand one of their key players the armband, but are there other strong candidates out there?

The task of this week’s Captain Sensible article is test the theory that Liverpool’s attackers will run riot in Gameweek 12, as well as compare them with other potential captain options.

Captain Poll

Not surprisingly, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) is already the runaway leader of the captain poll for Gameweek 12. That home match against Fulham’s defence is simply too much to resist for 49% of our voters, at time of writing.

But in reality, 68% of you have thrown your weight behind Fulham’s visit to Anfield as currently in second place is Sadio Mané (£9.8m). The Senegalese international scored a brace in his last Premier League appearance at Anfield when Cardiff were dispatched by a 4-1 scoreline.

A long way off in third place is Eden Hazard (£11.3m) with just under 7% of the vote. He played in the Europa League on Thursday night and registered a refreshingly event-free 62 minutes. A home match against Everton will be particularly appealing although the Toffees simply cannot offer the same level of defensive vulnerability as Fulham.

Marko Arnautovic (£7.1m) is once again preferred as the best of the mid-price options after his 12-point haul against Burnley (4.37%). His trip to Huddersfield Town will hold no fear for his owners, who might be inspired by the fact that our Scoutcaster Luke handed him the armband in Gameweek 11 for a 24-point haul.

The West Ham man has nearly double the backing of Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) who has just a 2.4% share of the vote thus far. That’s despite him scoring seven goals in his last eight Premier League meetings with Gameweek 11 opponents Manchester United.

Interesting options between 1% and 2% mark include Harry Kane (£12.4m), Glenn Murray (£6.5m), Jamie Vardy (£9.0m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m), Alexandre Lacazette (£9.7m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.1m).

        90%...

Don't see many more options tbh. Hazard in GW14 is an option, but the first of three games in a week so could be rested. Won't risk any Man City all season with the chip. And looking at schedule in the DGW's, I'd only fancy Arsenal and Chelsea fixtures and then rotation is a concern.

I've always failed planning for the TC so I'm going to go with instinct this time

Fair enough. I just don’t think Liverpool is playing well enough lately to have a player for TC, even vs Fulham

I've looked at stats, and Fulham are bad down their right side of defence which should leave Robbo open. Salah tends to operate on the right side of the penalty area, meaning crosses should reach him instead of Mane

I'm weary of the form as well, that's why I'm only 90% sure but it's been a bad week for them and have a feeling they'll rip Fulham to shreds to make up for it.

This was the original game plan... Just a toss up between Doherty (away Arsenal) and AWB (home Tottenham)

Palace looked a lot better v Chelsea and Wolves have fallen apart against the big teams recently.

        Doherty purely on attacking potential?

I made swap this GW Mitro->Ings. And this was my planned team before maddison injury. I was planning to get pogba or martial in place of maddison after international break...

    Kun-Arnie-Ings
    Subs Boruc-Yedlin-AWB-Cairney

Fulham have conceded 29 goals in 11 games.
And they are playing away at Anfield against a Liverpool side who are looking to bounce back after a loss in midweek.

Don't overthink the captaincy this week...

wow very different team there with the 2 in midfield!

Going without Liverpool this week is very risky in my opinion. If you aren't worried about making your team too template then maybe you could do laca > Jimenez / Ings & one of the 3 cheap mids to Mane

If you want to still be a bit different then maybe richarlison to shaqiri given hes a doubt this weekend

It's very possible he doesn't start. They played awful.

Just realised Ings rotates well with AWB.

Do you think Jimenez is still the better short term option? (For the next 4 gameweeks)

Well that Maddison injury has thrown a spanner in the works, really wanted to save a transfer.
Best MID to buy with 8.2m to spend?
Current mids are: Hazard, Mane, Fraser, Maddison, Kayal

Should've mentioned actually that I'm planning on WCing next gameweek after international break so I'm more looking for the best mid player specifically for this GW

I am tempted with Shaqiri against Fulham but theres the risk he doesn't play/ gets little minutes.
Plus the highest Shaqiri has scored so far is 7, whereas Anderson has scored a 10 and 13 so im leaning more towards Anderson atm

If it looks that Richarlison starts (he is first on the bench, but Maddy is out so he is anyway coming in) should I save ft? If I would bring Martial in I dont wanna play him against City anyway and everything can happen during IB.

If it looks that Richarlison is also out, then have to say goodbye to Maddy.
Why everyone is picking Martial over Pogba? Pogba have also pens and good differential.

Martial scores goals from open play basically. Also cheaper and more explosive.

Yea but if you watching them martial really does set that pitch alight currently. Pog a differential I agree

Yep, but I dont even want to play him this week. If Richalison is fit, probably just benching Maddy and take the price drop.
