Salah’s effective ownership balloons as Triple Captains played

It has been a quiet Gameweek in terms of chips used in the top 10k.

Actually, for the first time this season, the most-used is not the Wildcard.

Only 0.62% of them were activated in the top 10k as opposed to 1.15% active Triple Captains.

The vast majority of those were placed on Mohamed Salah (1.05%), with Sadio Mane basically being the only other triple captained player (0.09%).

This is understandable ahead of Liverpool’s Anfield meeting with Fulham’s poor defence on Sunday. The Cottagers have conceded 29 goals this season, more than any other side thus far.

This interest in Liverpool assets is very evident in captaincy polls as well. Salah is the top target with 59.58% while Mane is second with 26.93%.

That raises Salah’s effective ownership to 121.76% being the only player this week with more than 100% average weight in the top 10k.

The closest to him is Eden Hazard with 92.98% and Sergio Aguero with 87.82%.

However, this very high effective ownership of Salah doesn’t actually mean he is in all teams at this bracket.

The Egyptian is actually in just 61.1% of the top 10k squads. Most of them captained him, which is why his effective ownership is almost double his raw ownership.

In fact, Salah is ranked ninth when it comes to basic ownership in the top10k

Ahead of him is Hazard (86.11%), Aguero (85.4%), Marcos Alonso (83.4%), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (77.2%), Andrew Robertson (70%), Marko Arnautovic (69.6%), Richarlison (67.9%) and Callum Wilson (62.4%).

Meanwhile, Marko Arnautovic has emerged as a very popular option amongst the game’s current best managers. Supported by his good form and appealing upcoming fixtures, he is currently the second highest-owned forward in the top10k and was transferred in by 28.6% of these managers this week.

The main fall-guy for him is Aleksandar Mitrovic whose top10k ownership dropped from 37% to just 5.9% in a matter of days.

While Mitrovic’s usefulness was clearly at an end anyway, such a swathe of sales shows the influence of the market. His value was on the fall all week, and these managers may well have also sold him en masse to avoid falling foul of that.

We could possibly see this as a sign that the so-called ‘template team’ can quickly change when it needs to.

For example, if we look at the Wildcard template of this week, we see Arnautovic and Mat Ryan making their way into the active teams.

Meanwhile, the defence options seem to be a bit static at the moment. The usual suspects of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Alonso, Robertson and Benjamin Mendy still lead the way in most squads.

Despite strong upcoming fixtures, the top 10k are yet to really invest in Arsenal attack. Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have effective ownerships of 10.22% and 3.73% respectively, largely on account of such a cluster of value forwards.

On the other hand, while Manchester City the Manchester derby ahead of them, interest in their assets is still very high.

Four Man City players have effective ownerships of higher than 10%, namely Aguero (87.8%), Mendy (56.1%), Ederson (26.5%) and Raheem Sterling (14.1%).

Not surprisingly, if we look at the Premier League teams with the most players per top10k team, we find that Liverpool and Man City are tied in the first place as they both provide 2.1 players per FPL team at that level.

Arsenal are not even in the top 10 sides represented in Fantasy teams in the top 10k.

Chelsea are a close third with 2.0 average players. Wolves, West Ham and Bournemouth provide 1.3, 1.3 and 1.2 players respectively.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool and Man City players will repay the faith of both their football and Fantasy managers this week.

If Liverpool genuinely looked as threatening as they did last season I'd have seriously considered TC this week. There's just this nagging doubt that Salah'll assist a Milner pen in a hard fought 1-0, and toddle off with a 6 pointer...

Bayern are an entitled team whose formula is starting to show cracks in its exoskeleton. The idea that they can just pick and choose who they wish from the rest of the bundesliga hasn't gone away but players Wagner and Sule are not top class, they can bully the minnows of the league but they are not able to thrive in a possession based system like Bayern's. There is no threat in the Bayern attack in the same way there once was, Lewandowski has been a poacher this year more than ever and I suspect he'll want a way to a different league by season's end as Bayern won't sell him in January when they'll still be in the champions league. The veterans on this team have no belief in Kovac despite his system being good enough for them to win but Kovac deserves significant blame as well for being completely unable to balance the egos between the veterans and the younger players. Alaba, Hummels, Boateng, and Muller are playing nowhere near their capabilities and all are expecting the league to be one where just turning up once in a while should be good enough, the same mentality is being applied to UCL because there is no real threat there as well. This Bayern team when faced with adversity this season has not been able to switch off the complacency. First place Dortmund beat them, second place monchengladbach thumped them. There seems to be an absence of youth fighting for spots in the side leading to complacency in secured positions for the veterans. Gnabry and Sanches are not good enough to be pushing for a spot in XI but Kovac is doing it anyway as if they were because he is desperately hoping to mend the environment as though the problems don't exist. The problems only shine through against quality sides, even Ajax battled them to a point. Bayern may not make it out of the round of 16 in UCL if they get a half decent side. Kimmich seems to be the only one who has showed up this season.

Credit where credit is due however, Dortmund could have scored 5 in that second half and really sent out a statement

Right, but usually when he does it means they have to bench James or Goretzka and if Bayern took the league more seriously they would not be rotating this carefully and keep one if not both of them on the bench each week for Gnabry's sake, imo

If you think about it long term, it could be a good idea because city attackers are going to get a load of points over the season. Look at Sane for e.g he's played 9 of 11 games, started 4 but has 3 goals and 5 assists. Mahrez heavily rotated too and has 4 goals.

What's the point asking this tonight? Half of your players starters haven't even played yet and next GW is in 2 weeks.

Romelu Lukaku fit and back in the United squad for City. Paul Pogba didn’t arrive with the squad at The Lowry. #mufc

Completely possible Pogba is kept separate from the squad (a la Rashford at Chelsea last year) as part of a ruse to confuse City. #mufc badly missed Pogba in the December derby. Sam luckhurst

Pereira working hard to avoid being expelled from my team in favour of Doherty...he may have just bought himself an extra week - delicious baps 😎

        Can't really complain with 8x returns (1g 3a 4cs) in 11, 5.4pts/appearance is not too bad.

[admittedly did a double take when he lost 5bps from full time to final count to just hold on to max 😮 ]

Could really do with a couple of those starting tomorrow. Dreading the 11AM team sheet.

        2 FT 0.1 itb
Richarlison, Martial and sterling on my wish list. Barkley, Pererya and Salah on my ship out list.

        1. Barkley, Salah and Pererya > Richarlison, Mane and Martial (-4)

        3. Barkley, Salah, Ederson and Pererya > Richarlison, Sterling, Martial and GK up to 5.2

Sunday Mirror Sport last week revealed that Sánchez wants a bumper pay rise to tie himself down to a new deal at Old Trafford.

With Alexis Sanchez earning more than double his current £175,000-a-week wages, De Gea believes that a figure in the region of £300,000-a-week is not unrealistic.

Bold move for someone who hasn't played well for 2 years, Martial should get double of what Sanchez get

If they tighten their defence they can let de Gea go and save the money...don't need the best goalkeeper in the world to win titles
