Richarlison eases FPL injury worries with cameo for Brazil

Our international break coverage continues with this round-up of the matches contested on Friday evening that involved Premier League players.

We summarise the minutes played, goals, assists and injury news concerning Fantasy Premier League assets, with further reviews to come over the weekend and early next week.

Brazil 1-0 Uruguay

  • Alisson (£5.7m) – 90 minutes
  • Danilo (£5.1m) – 90 minutes
  • Roberto Firmino (£9.2m) – 90 minutes
  • Richarlison (£6.9m) – 23 minutes
  • Gabriel Jesus (£10.1m) – 0 minutes
  • Willian (£7.4m) – 0 minutes
  • Fabinho (£5.5m) – 0 minutes
  • Ederson (£5.8m) – 0 minutes
  • Lucas Torreira (£4.9m) – 90 minutes

Richarlison shook off the groin injury he picked up in Everton’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea in Gameweek 12 and returned to action on Friday night, as Brazil edged past Uruguay at the Emirates.

One in four Fantasy Premier League managers own the Everton midfielder and his recovery is a rare piece of good news amid the deluge of knocks, niggles, withdrawals and yellow flags that have plagued our Gameweek 13 preparations.

Richarlison came off the bench with a quarter of the match remaining and indeed should have scored when picked out by Neymar on the six-yard box, but looked lively on the right flank and untroubled by any injury problem he had been affected by at Stamford Bridge.

Alisson and Danilo were part of the Brazil back four that kept out Luis Suarez and co, with the Liverpool goalkeeper called into action on four occasions in order to preserve Selecao’s clean sheet.

Roberto Firmino played the whole 90 minutes for his national team, predominantly used as the spearhead of a three-man attack and registering more penalty box touches than anyone on show – a far cry from the deeper or wider roles he has been asked to occupy at Liverpool in recent weeks.

That being said, Firmino didn’t really trouble the Uruguayan backline enough, and it was Neymar who was both Brazil’s biggest goal threat and creative spark.

Lucas Torreira played the whole match on his home ground, while Gabriel Jesus, Willian, Ederson and Fabinho all remained unused substitutes for Brazil.

Egypt 3-2 Tunisia

  • Mohamed Elneny (£4.3m) – 90 minutes
  • Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) – 90 minutes

Mohamed Salah scored his tenth goal in eight matches for Egypt by netting the winner in a five-goal thriller in Alexandria.

Salah had already hit the post for his country before grabbing the Pharaohs’ decisive third goal with minutes remaining, playing a one-two with team-mate Salah Mohsen before dinking the ball over visiting goalkeeper Farouk Ben Mustapha.

This was Salah’s only fixture of the international break and the Liverpool midfielder will now return to his club in good time for the trip to Watford a week today.

This was something of a dead rubber between the two sides as both Tunisia and Egypt have already qualified for the 2019 African Cup of Nations, which will take place next summer rather than in January/February as has been the case in previous years.

Mohamed Elneny returned from injury to start the game, having been unavailable for Arsenal for the last few weeks.

The defensive midfielder is yet to play one minute in the Premier League this season.

Wales 1-2 Denmark

  • Wayne Hennessey (£4.5m) – 90 minutes
  • Ethan Ampadu (£4.4m) – 40 minutes
  • Paul Dummett (£4.4m) – 39 minutes
  • David Brooks (£5.1m) – 90 minutes
  • Aaron Ramsey (£7.4m) – 90 minutes
  • Sam Vokes (£5.3m) – 0 minutes
  • Danny Ward (£4.4m) – 0 minutes
  • Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
  • Andreas Christensen (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
  • Zanka (£4.4m) – 90 minutes
  • Christian Eriksen (£9.2m) – 90 minutes
  • Jannik Vestergaard (£4.7m) – 0 minutes
  • Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (£4.5m) – 0 minutes

David Brooks put in an eye-catching performance at the Cardiff City Stadium as Wales’ UEFA Nations League campaign ended at the hands of Denmark on Friday.

The Bournemouth midfielder was, in many eyes, Wales’ best player on the night, putting in an excellent attacking display on the right flank and registering more key passes (four) than anyone on show in Cardiff.

Brooks should have at least had one assist when his cross was nodded wide by James Chester from six yards out, while the former Sheffield United winger almost got on the scoresheet himself when curling an effort wide from outside the Danish box.

Aaron Ramsey didn’t have quite the same impact in a two-man midfield, while Wayne Hennessey was perhaps slow to react for both of Denmark’s goals – as good as they were.

Newcastle United fans would have been concerned to see Paul Dummett limp from the field of play after just 39 minutes, meanwhile – the Wales left-back has kept four clean sheets in ten appearances for the Magpies this season, though is only owned by 0.2% of FPL bosses.

Further news is awaited on the severity of Dummett’s injury.

Kasper Schmeichel impressed in the Denmark goal in repelling Gareth Bale and co, while Zanka – suspended for Gameweek 13 after picking up five yellow cards for Huddersfield – and Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen also clocked up 90 minutes at centre-back.

Christian Eriksen‘s long road to recovery from an abdomen problem continued with a 90-minute run-out in South Wales, with the Spurs midfielder going close early on with a shot that flashed wide and then creating two chances for his team-mates.

Eriksen was mainly deployed as a “number ten” in the Danish side, though roamed across the attacking midfield positions and showed glimpses of his old creative self in the first half especially – though the premium midfielder has plenty to do in the coming fortnight (regular starts, for one) if he is to convince Fantasy managers that he is a viable option when Spurs’ fixtures turn for the better in Gameweek 15.

Sam Vokes, Danny Ward, Jannik Vestergaard and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg all watched this game from the bench.

The Netherlands 2-0 France

  • Virgil van Dijk (£6.0m) – 90 minutes
  • Georginio Wijnaldum (£5.5m) – 89 minutes
  • Nathan Ake (£5.0m) – 6 minutes
  • Hugo Lloris (£5.4m) – 90 minutes
  • Lucas Digne (£4.8m) – 90 minutes
  • N’Golo Kante (£4.9m) – 90 minutes
  • Olivier Giroud (£7.7m) – 65 minutes
  • Moussa Sissoko (£4.9m) – 25 minutes
  • Mamadou Sakho (£5.0m) – 0 minutes

A France side missing the injured Paul Pogba (£8.0m), Alexandre Lacazette (£9.7m) and Benjamin Mendy (£6.4m) slumped to a 2-0 UEFA Nations League defeat in Rotterdam, having needed only a draw to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.

Les Bleus were actually indebted to Hugo Lloris to keep the scoreline respectable, with the Dutch much the better side and deserving to win by a greater margin.

Lloris made nine stops in all from Memphis Depay, Ryan Babel, Denzel Dumfries, Frenkie de Jong and Georginio Wijnaldum, but could do nothing to stop the Liverpool midfielder giving the Netherlands the lead just before half-time when he followed up a parried shot from Babel.

Virgil van Dijk was in imperious form at centre-back and snuffed out pretty much everything except for one Antoine Griezmann chance in the second half, with Olivier Giroud indeed hauled off on 65 minutes having not had a single shot on goal.

Lucas Digne and N’Golo Kante both picked up cautions as the French struggled to deal with a vibrant Dutch attack, but the Everton left-back did showcase his attacking threat by bombing forward to create a chance or two.

Nathan Ake and Moussa Sissoko both came off the bench for their respective countries, while Mamadou Sakho was an unused substitute.

Argentina 2-0 Mexico

  • Juan Foyth (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
  • Raul Jimenez (£5.8m) – 90 minutes
  • Erik Lamela (£6.5m) – 1 minute
  • Paulo Gazzaniga (£4.5m) – 0 minutes
  • Sergio Romero (£5.0m) – 0 minutes
  • Roberto Pereyra (£6.4m) – 0 minutes

Juan Foyth shrugged off a facial injury to play the whole 90 minutes for Argentina in the early hours of Saturday, earning the man of the match award on his international debut.

Foyth lined up as part of a back three in Lionel Scaloni’s 3-4-2-1 and was up against Wolves’ Raul Jimenez in the Mexican attack, with Argentina restricting their visitors to just three attempts on goal in the entire game.

Jimenez had the best of those opportunities when nodding a Marco Fabian cross against the bar after just two minutes, but was unable to trouble the hosts’ goal thereafter as a Lionel Messi-less Argentina ran out comfortable 2-0 winners.

Erik Lamela – who had himself picked up a head injury in Gameweek 12 – came on as a substitute in the dying stages of the match, though Paulo Gazzaniga, Sergio Romero and Roberto Pereyra remained unused on the home bench.

Chile 2-3 Costa Rica

  • Alexis Sanchez (£10.0m) – 90 minutes

Alexis Sanchez had a somewhat mixed evening as Chile fell to a humbling home defeat to Costa Rica, who raced into a three-goal lead before the hosts recovered to add a gloss of respectability to the scoreline.

Sanchez scored Chile’s second goal of the night, controlling a long ball from Erick Pulgar on his chest and firing past visiting goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado to set up a grandstand finish.

The Manchester United midfielder had, not for the first time in his career, earlier missed from the spot after himself being fouled in the Costa Rican box.

Playing on the left of the front three, Sanchez posted the kind of underlying attacking statistics that had marked him out as a desirable premium Fantasy asset at Arsenal: ten penalty box touches, eight attempts on goal and three big chances.

Sanchez also created more chances than anyone on show in Rancagua.

Round-up

Mohamed Elyounoussi (£6.2m) and Stefan Johansen (£5.1m) started on the flanks for Norway as they deservedly came back from a goal down to draw 1-1 in Slovenia.

Johansen was withdrawn just before the hour mark, as has become a regular occurrence in recent internationals, while Crystal Palace’s Alexander Sorloth (£4.8m) came off the bench in the final quarter of an hour as Norway chased the game.

Elyounoussi lasted the full 90 minutes.

Martin Dubravka (£5.0m) was on the winning side as Slovakia trounced Ukraine 4-1, with Oleksandr Zinchenko (£4.8m) lining up in midfield as usual for his national team.

The game wasn’t quite as one-sided as the scoreline suggested, with Dubravka keeping up his fine recent form for Newcastle by making five stops – one from Zinchenko – as his country scored from all four of their shots on target at the other end.

Gaetan Bong (£4.5m) and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa (£4.4m) both started for Cameroon in their 2-0 defeat to Morocco, who named Wolves’ Romain Saiss (£4.2m) on the bench.

Diogo Jota tapped in Portugal under-21’s winner against their Polish counterparts on Friday, while his Wolves’ team-mate Ruben Vinagre and the Portuguese under-20s had two games in as many days on Thursday and Friday – the wing-back posting a video of himself in action against Poland in the first of those two matches.

Kamara (4.3) + 1.6 = 5.9 and Jimenez is 5.8. That was my planned move for this week, but the Mendy injury has left my bench pretty weak!

Yeah, not convinced with Tony, so would probably go Siggy with B - set pieces and has CAR, NEW, WAT in 3 of his next 4.

A makes most sense given planning to WC in a few weeks, but a bench of Balbuena, Hudson & Mendy is perhaps too big a risk this week.

Arnie can score against anyone: this has been substantiated on numerous occasions.
Man. City have conceded now in the last two league games.
West Ham will more than likely get one at home to City.

            I'd bench Fraser.

Doherty is playing in a different style, running with the ball rather than distributing it and some his key stats have fallen off a cliff edge ... but owners won’t want to acknowledge this 😉

He may haul but the stats in the last 4 aren’t great reading compared to his 4 game purple patch .....

          - xG & xA has been halved
          - Attempts from set piece plays are zero, down from 3
          - Penalty area touches down 40%
          - Shots in the box down by 35%
          - Dribbling with the ball and take-ons up 350%, but so are dispossession which means bps are down over 100%
          - One goal conceded compared to 7 goals conceded

Great bench player, not a good third choice defender imho

Last time Mendy was out Otamendi replaced Stones (who was fit to play) during Mendy’s absence gw 5-7. As soon as Mendy was back, Stones got back in the starting lineup. Coincidence? I don’t know, but I’d be worried if I was a Stoner.

    Aguero, Wilson, Mitrovic;
    Doherty/Wan-Biss/Billing. 0.1itb

If you have hold mitro this far i say wait now. New coach, new style might help him more!!

You think Patricio on own? I'm rotating with Foster at mo.

I think your bench is a bit too strong lol

Actually I would sell Vardy and upgrade your defence by getting Alonso, or by moving money from Chilwell & Jorginho - having the ‘also ran’ second choices from Liverpool & Chelsea is not something I would be happy with

Vardy and Chilwell will soon make way for others, not this GW though.

I am thinking of playing my Wildcard around Xmas, so feeling a bit punty. Hence, inclined towards Kenedy.

Chilwell has 2 clean sheets and given me 18 points in the last 2. Faces Brighton next, so he plays.
Luiz has Spurs away, sadly benched.

Thinking of benching Arnautovic, with Mendy out City will be much more stronger defensively. Don't see him scoring at away.

Shows that a strong bench is very useful - I don’t think I would sell Jorginho for a one week punt, this is the week Hazard goes off and he scores a penalty 😉

If I play my WC now and just downgrade Vardy to Jimenez, I'll have enough money ITB to upgrade Luiz, TAA and Chilwell to Alonso, Robbo and Trippier, but I don't think this is really needed. Do you?

An international break is always a time for jubilant or despondent reflection..so..

How has your season unfolded so far?
Have you exceeded your expectations or are you struggling to get going?
How are you placed in your main mini leagues, what is your OR?
What do you feel are realistic targets for the end of the season?

Never set any target before season. Before this year i used to take hits literally every other gw. All i wanted was to be manager of the week once.
But now this season i have only made 18 transfers so far which is very unlike me.
      But dream remain same.

For me, I got off to a far slower start than desired, but beginning to slowly haul it back now.

Up to 2nd in my office ML, which is the 1st priority but crashing horribly in the mods league 🙁

Current OR circa 320k..targeting top 25k, but after last season's ultimate failure in similar circumstances- I'm not holding my breath.

Well placed going into the break with 2FT and fairly settled squad. Mendy and Barkley my priorities to sell ATM, with Doherty and Richarlison the likely candidates. WC available should the proverbial muck hit the fan..

111 points in the first 2 gameweeks was like giving everyone a 50 point head start - punted on KdB instead of Mane and have been trying to catch up eversince

Haven’t dipped under 50 points in a game week yet though 🙂

Fantastic start, comfortably in the top 20K the first 3 weeks. Since then I've been more down than up, with a nasty slide GW9-11 that I've only just brought a halt to.
Will use the international break to figure out what went right and what went wrong (selling Richarlison but keeping Maddison, not giving David Silva a chance).
Top 3 in most of my MLs and the big chips still to play, so feeling decent overall.

So far, my season is going great... my current OR is 20,655..currently definitely not exceeding my expectation because I've been in greater heights before middle of the season in the season before this...I playing FPL to achieve a great OR, otherwise whatever I've achieve in my mini leagues is just a bonus..My target is still to achieve my first top 10k finish after I've failed last season..

Applying lessons learned about human nature in other areas of life this year has paid dividends in FPL. I do see the game as mirroring many aspects of real life in terms of patience, not being able to force the things you want, gut instincts etc. So this year I have not made a single transfer based on price movements. I have waited until the end of the week every GW. I have saved 2FT as many times as I could. I haven't taken a hit, and still have a wildcard. Currently somewhere in the 10,194. 3 out of the last 4 years I've finished between 13K and 11K but never actually inside the top 10K at any point. Now just ONE point off it haha. So illusive.

Delighted with my progress, ID be leading the mods and cons league by 1point!
Usually in the millions by this stage leaving myself mountain to climb due to silly kneejerk punts and hits.. this season much more measured approach, 1 hit all season which was last week. 1.7k OR my target is to enjoy this whilst it lasts.

Had a decent start for my standards, usually playing catch up now but currently sitting at 83k fairly happy.

My main cash mini league is very tough, sitting in 14th atm but long way to go in the season I’m confident I can claw my way up.

After achieving 3k last year and 12k the year before, not happy with the current OR of 196k. However, I always tend to recover as the season goes by so hoping for the same. Bringing Kane to Captain in place of Auba when every man and his dog brought him( forgot the gw) has been the biggest mistake yet. A swing of about 40points as Auba scored a brace and Hazard who had the armband before I brought Kane also scored huge. Hope to avoid such bad luck again!

Around 12k for me which I’m pretty sure is the highest I’ve been at this stage, 10 out of 11 green arrows and 12 out of 12 for captain returns so I’m really pleased. Hopefully it doesn’t all go to pot now and I can make another assault on the top 1k.

Got lucky at the start with the right picks, 1k for a while, steady stream of red arrows to 9k ish, and back up to 6k

Probably my best start ever, and have my WC in hand

Plan to go all-in on the fixture swing, which could of course go horribly wrong

However, 10k from 100k at new year is my usual routine so even if it loses me a wad along points, I feel if I’m ever gonna have a run for the top 1k this is the year a and the way to do it

Season has unfolded without a captain blank... sure loads will be in the same boat but that’s crazy right?

95k OR helped out massively by the previous GW (81). Aiming to get a top 20k and win some ML’s.

On reflection I always look at the bad decisions. 1 min before the GW1 deadline Fraser turned to Eric Bailly, missed Aguero captaincy, brought in Mkhitaryan and Pedro... i’m sure there’s been some good decisions too but always harder to pinpoint them 🙂

I have been careful till now by planning ahead and not taking a single hit. Suppressing my inner maverick as it will cost me heavily this point.

My aim was to finish in 10k but now I want to finish in top 5k

Going well so far! Was at 1m in GW4, now steadily moved up to 76k off the back of only one captain fail when I fell for Aguero-gate in GW2 and went Eriksen!

Top of some ML's, in the mix in another fighting it out around 2nd/3rd.

Yet to wildcard and have two FTs this week. All good!

Finished 25k last year so an improvement on that would be great although career best of 4k seems ever more difficult to attain again as the seasons go by.

Very slow and steady so far this season. GW 1 450k now up to 66k. No massive rank climb weeks just getting average or slighty above average weekly scores.(Slow and steady wins the race)

Currently sitting on 25K without usage of any chips yet.
2nd on the main mini league but 14th on another a bit larger one, with above 300 participants.

How has your season unfolded so far? Overall it has gone well. I have 9 of the players I started the season with and am sat in 4k. I have been a lot more patient this season and it has paid off.

Have you exceeded your expectations or are you struggling to get going? 4k is probably above where I would expect to be at this point in time.the aim was a top 10k finish. The aim now is a top 1k finish.

How are you placed in your main mini leagues, what is your OR? Top of all mini

What do you feel are realistic targets for the end of the season? Top 1k. Although winning FPL is still a realistic aim and as long as it is realistic then that is my aim.

Currently 18K but all feels a bit Meh.

Have made a few costly mistakes that have stopped me rising any higher (e.g chose Smalling over Trippier the first time Mendy got injured)

Team is in pretty bad shape at the moment with no Hazard and lots of injuries so may need to spend some points to get it sorted.

Full house of captaincy successes is nice though!

Sitting at 7.5k and comfortably my best ever season. Usually always start off slow making silly punts or taking hits and play catch up for so long. Makes the game fun because I'm chasing rather than now I am just begging for a small green arrow. My aim this year was top 50k just to level out my average over the last 5 season and anything else was a bonus. Money leagues were going to be won anyway because nobody else takes this as serious so for me it's competing with the elite (mainly you guys) and ensuring I finish as high as possible.

-relatively happy, but always think I could've done better with the mistakes I've made
-haven't exceeded any expectations yet, I was at 19k at around GW16 last year but I never managed to get higher than that the whole season, infact by the end of the season I frustratingly finished 71k, so I don't want to get excited because of a good start as it means nothing if I were to get 20 points every GW from now on
      -1st in work ML - all that matters 😎 , 26k rank
-realistic target is to keep this form up and be resilient - if I achieve that then I see no reason why I wouldn't finish higher than 26k and stay 1st in my work ML

My main ambition at the start of each season is to finish in the top thousand for the first time.
An OR of 198 after GW2 following two opening centuries was way beyond my expectations, and I started dreaming of going even higher.
Unfortunately it's been mainly downhill since then and I have now slipped to OR 14,352.
My best position at this stage since 2010/11, but disappointing after such a flying start.
Hoping soon to stop the rot, reverse the downward trend and start climbing back up the ranks.

Don't think I've been higher ranked after GW12 in any other season.
Plenty of mistakes/missed opportunities but have exceeded expectations but that may be more due to the strong template.
5.5K, 3rd in Mods League, other leagues are taking care of themselves.

It started off well and I was pleased by my initial selections and captained both the Aguero and Hazard hauls. By GW6 I was around 48k, which was the highest I'd ever been. I then made the mistake removing Lacazette and trying to chase Kane's points at home to Cardiff after he hauled against Huddersfield the week before.
The biggest disaster was GW10. The plan was to hokey cokey out Kane for Salah, after his failure against Cardiff I started second guessing myself. I stuck with Hazard as captain against Burnley and Robertson vc. Most people that week approached 100 points with Salah, Mane or both, I ended up with 9 players, 42 points and a GW rank of 4.8 mil, droppoing me 100k places overall.
Currently at 159k but feel that I've not capitalised on the great. Was forced into a WC in GW6 as I was looking at 9 starters.

After GW10 I was 2.5k OR and flying in all mini leagues. Then I made a ludicrous decision to sell Aguero AVB David Silva to fund Salah, which resulted in just 30 points for GW11 and ask now 28k OR.

My reasoning was that Aguero was being subbed after 60 minutes every week and doing next to nothing away, whereas Salah had Fulham and a shaky Arsenal coming up and appeared to have turned the corner, backing up his underlying stats with a haul against Cardiff.

      It's been disastrous

Slow and steady like always. Never seem to get into the higher ranks at this stage of the season. But i'm comfortable with that. Slowly focused on building TV(currently 104.6), and getting the main players in early before their price rises.
Maintaining all my main chips and this is the point of the season where i look to accelerate. Try a few risky punts to get ahead. Make bold captaincy choices etc.
Currently 37k, aiming for top 5k as usual.
Well placed in my money leagues which is my main aim to win.

    Aguero Arnie King

Two ways I can see are

For me Mane has to be downgraded and one of the other mids upgraded. But I'm sure you've thought of that

    Schmeichel
    TAA Mendy Alonso
    Mane Moura Maddison Pereyra Hazard
    Arnoutavic Aguero

    Stekelenburg Trippier Kamara AWB

Have exact funds for all 4, assuming Maddison is still out which option looks best for -4 this week in terms of fixtures, form and nailedness?

    A Mendy & Maddison > Smalling & Martial
    B Mendy & Maddison > Walker & Richarlison
    C Mendy & Maddison > Digne & Dilva
    D Mendy & Kamara > Coleman & Jiminez

So what is the risk that Jimenez is a trap?

I will likely get Doherty in for Mendy, and this means that I can go for Jimenez instead of Success - will Jimenez be a success or a failure?

🙂 He is the most bought player for this round and that is not a good sign looking back at previous rounds :-)) If I go for both him and Doherty I will end up with 3 Wolves players (already got Bennett) so I guess I should just leave the failure now!

Hopefully he is a trap after 2-weeks 😮

Digne seems to be splitting the community's thoughts!

I'm considering him for Mendy because his price allows me to look at upgrading my midfield this week or next whereas getting Laporte does not.

It's also situational of course and I will probably WC in 15/16, so can see no better punt over the next few fixtures!

To those who don't like him, why not? I don't get to watch as much football as I'd like and my only knowledge of his play is from a few highlights here and there!

    Cheers

Can't believe people on hear thinking of selling or benching Fraser. The guy has been awesome and will tear into a fragile Arsenal defence. Was directly involved in 3 of Scotland 4 goals.....been great all season.

So your plan is to ditch the highest point scorer per pound value and allow everyone else in your ML to keep him ?? May I suggest you find another way. I was in the same position and bought in Newcastle defender Fernandez three weeks ago.....great move. Think outside the box.....
