Manchester City options early favourites for Gameweek 14 captaincy

Manchester City’s attacking options are expected to be the early favourites for the Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 14 captaincy.

You can now vote for who you believe to be the best option for the armband in the poll below, or on the sidebar of our website.

Raheem Sterling (£11.3m) goes into a home match against Bournemouth on the back of his fourth double-figure haul of the campaign, as he scored 16 points in the 4-0 win over West Ham.

In every league match that the England international has played at the Etihad Stadium, bar one, this season he has either matched or outscored colleague Sergio Aguero (£11.5m).

The Argentinian’s latest blank on the road, his fifth from a possible six in 2018/19, may detract from his percentage in this poll.

However, Aguero has the advantage of still starting every single match there this year, while Sterling was rested for appealing home encounters with Huddersfield and Burnley in Gameweeks 2 and 9 respectively.

The injury to Gabriel Jesus (£10.1m) may also be a factor in managers’ decisions. If his injury is only enough to keep him out of the midweek Champions League action and not the weekend, then either one of Sterling or Aguero could play up front against Lyon and then miss Bournemouth. However, Jesus’ injury could also be bad enough to rule him out of both matches.

After both scoring three goals in as many matches Leroy Sané (£9.3m) and David Silva (£8.6m) could prove excellent differential options with just 5.8% and 10% ownership respectively.

However, Eden Hazard (£11.1m) has the opportunity to make up for his recent poor returns with an appealing home match against Fulham.

The Cottagers may be under new management but they still managed to concede twice to a goal-shy Southampton side in Gameweek 13.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and his Liverpool colleagues have an unpredictable Merseyside Derby on Sunday afternoon. The Egyptian has delivered in all but one of his home matches this season, the only blank coming against Manchester City in Gameweek 8, so the case for captaining this week still holds some water.

Another derby takes place on the same day in Gameweek 14, with Arsenal hosting a Spurs side fresh from thrashing Chelsea 3-1.

Harry Kane‘s (£12.3m) recent return to form may make a case for the captain’s armband, as he has five goals in his last six matches against Arsenal.

Just like last week, this week's captaincy will also be decided after presser, sigh... 😮

    Hopefully Hazard is fit

Hopefully he isnt. Hopefully Sarri doesnt give much away but puts him on the bench to be safe, then brings him on with 15 mins left for a 1 pointer! While Sterling scores and assists 🙂

Hopefully he hauls 2 goals an assist and the baps, at the same time sterling is benched having played midweek buts comes on for a cameo where not only does he get a 1 pointer but he gets injured too and spends two months on the sidelines

Had a mare of a week, current squad is:-

    Hennessey
    Wan-Bissaka | Bennett | Alonso
    Richarlison | Salah | Pereyra | Hazard
    Arnautovic| | Jiménez | Agüero

    Hart | Gomez | Steve Cook | Hudson-Odoi

I'm considering taking a hit this week and doing either:-

    A) Hazard --> Sterling
    B) Hazard + Gomez --> Sterling + Alexander-Arnold (-4)
    C) Pereyra + Gomez --> David Silva + Yedlin (-4)

    Thoughts please!

Last couple of articles this website has really been trying hard to hype up Kane. Suggesting him as a captain option even.

    Last Six weeks. 1, 2, 2, 7, 5, 6

Not nearly good enough given the price, and the goal against Chelsea was ridiculously fortunate.

    1. Amey

      True.
Nailed option is the biggest advantage for him though for captaincy

Yeah but look at the fixtures after Arsenal mate.

You can’t tell me you believe Kane will continue to blank and not grab some braces/potentially hat-tricks over the next 6-8 GWs?

Chelsea played worse than many of their so called easier opponents will, and Tottenham do have a very gruelling schedule.

Yeah spot on. He's not done enough for me yet to show signs he's anywhere near his best, which he needs to be to have a chance of justifying his high cost. He was prone to captaincy fails even when he was at his best too, so captaining him now seems too risky. As it stands, I'd rather have one of Son or Alli, or even both if Spurs show signs of continuing their good form against Inter and Arsenal.

P.s. Really enjoying the daily pods, I listen every day 🙂 Its nice to hear an alternative point of view to the masses!

I think it is more a question of fixtures + Spurs attacking well + Main players back

You could as well make an argument for Alli/Eriksen though.

Agreed - it's come to a point where I rather be late than early with Kane. He's proven to be a troll at that price tag - has blanked in some of the easiest home games over the past year.

      1. A.T

I swear he’s been a troll to me far more than Hazard ever was.

However, having watched the games he looks a *lot* better now. And in between those games he's scored crucial goals in the CL as well as for the national team.

Also, their fixtures are turning (which can't be overlooked) and more than that: Spurs have Eriksen back (and Alli), and subsequently they've been playing a lot better in attack.

Up to everyone if they think he'll come good or not, however I think the hype is justifiable.

Personally I will wait and see if 1. They keep playing well and how they do in their busy schedule 2. see if maybe I could get some points from a midfielder who'd possibly be pretty nailed on.

      best of luck

On the plus side, his shot accuracy is actually up this season, he has just had fewer of them due to playin* deeper.
But like people say with the injury crisis over normal service may resume, but not guaranteed

If you have a one or two City mids in place I think I move from Aguero to Kane next week could be a profitable one. Yes it involves risk but so does every transfer we make. He’s a safer captain option than Aguero who hasn’t been doing much lately away from home.

Agree, especially with looking away from West Ham defense. However Ryan is flagged and while they have 3 decent fixtures they turn into really tough ones after that. Since you don't have two playing goalies I'd plan a bit longer with my GK

How about Lossl perhaps? 4.4 and they have mainly good fixtures for a long time a head. Also they have a pretty solid defense, and he gets quite a few save points.

      No.
But he'll play most of the matches now on till Mendy is bach imo.
Zenchinko isn't a great option and delph doesn't provide width on left flank

I can't praise Salah enough for this:

    What an absolute legend.

Bit overboard with the praise there.

Using his influence for good. Unlike Rooney who just shagged grannies

No hits taken so far: what about for -8:
Aguero, Mane and Alonso to Kane, Sterling and a 5.1 (Gomez, Shaw) or AWB and leave myself one mill?

Or should I space it out over weeks? Or not at all?

B if you already have 2 city kids. You wouldn’t be able to do A anyway (more than 3 city)

    Sorry got that totally wrong.

    A. Sane and robbo
    Or
    B. Mane and Laporte..

    Already have Dilva and Sterling.

I like Sane but would be weary of 3 city mids so for that reason only would go B.
Could you do Sterling, Sane & Laporte instead of Silva?

    Hi all,

Still have a wildcard burning a hole in my pocket! Current team is:

    Allison Hamer

    Robertson Alonso Laporte Doherty AWB

    Hazard Sterling Mane Maddison Fraser

    Arnie Jimenez Wilson

Looking at the below to WC to after this week:

    Allison Hamer

    Robertson Alonso Alderweireld Doherty AWB

    Sterling Sane Eriksen Mane Brooks

    Arnie Jimenez Mitrovic

Any thoughts? Quite happy with mid price forwards, would play 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 most weeks

Looking forward to Man City line up today. If Sterling plays you can see him being benched in one of the next two games.

How do you interpret a start for Aguero, Vin?

He'll be benched for one of the the next three IMO if he starts today.

It is one of those times where you need to get lucky - everyone will be benched over the next 3 PL games, but which Man City player will score the most points in that period? Mahrez has been forgotten about as well, but if he is benched today he could easily play 3 PL games in a row and haul big time.

      Many of us !!
Hopefully he's benched so it makes decision easier to get him !!
