Captains

Captain Sensible – All eyes on in-form Kane for Gameweek 15

It’s all change for Fantasy Premier League managers as Gameweek 15 looms large.

This is when the fixtures begin to swing in the direction of Tottenham and Arsenal and that has already had an effect on the captain debate.

We’ve taken a look at both the popular options and those most likely to do well in the midweek action in this latest article.

Captain Poll

Harry Kane (£12.4m) looks poised to go into Gameweek 15 as the runaway Fantasy Football Scout captain poll winner. At the time of writing the Tottenham man had a 42% share of the vote ahead of Southampton’s visit to Wembley on Wednesday night. The last time he was the most popular candidate was when they hosted Cardiff in Gameweek 8 – his owners will be hoping for a better showing than his blank against the Bluebirds.

A long way off in second place is Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) who has a 15% share of the vote. Liverpool travel to Burnley this weekend and are expected to waltz to victory considering the form their hosts are in. The Clarets have allowed more shots than any other side this season which should afford Salah plenty of chances to finally get his second double-figure haul of the campaign.

Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) looks set to finish the poll in third place, as the most popular of the Manchester City options. He is the top-scoring player in all of FPL right now so there’s so surprise that he’s ahead of his colleagues in this vote. Some might have expected him to have garnered more than 9% support, but it appears the voters are aware of his rotation risk. An away match against Watford looks like one in which Sterling can certainly deliver but the fact that he played the full 90 minutes against Bournemouth does reduce his risk of starting this one – and that is reflected in his percentage share here.

Interestingly, Marko Arnautovic (£7.1m) is up next as he faces Cardiff City on Tuesday night. His 5.67% share of the vote is higher than Sergio Aguero (£11.5m) who trails behind the main group with 4.5%. There is considerable doubt over whether he will even start against Watford with his recent muscular injury, but he has also been so poor away from home too.

Despite emerging as a potential alternative to Kane in the minds of some Fantasy managers, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m) is lagging well behind in the captain poll. Just 3.49% of voters are considering handing him the armband this weekend even though he faces a leaky Manchester United defence at Old Trafford. Callum Wilson (£6.8m), who faces Huddersfield, is ahead of him on 3.81%.

Eden Hazard (£11.0m) and Sadio Mané (£9.9m) are even further behind with just 1.95% and 1.74% backing respectively.

I don't want to lose Aguero this GW as his record against Watford is quite good. So, how's this plan...?

Next week Aguero > Auba, Giroud > Wilson and Pereira > Anderson for -4.

    My team is

    Patricio. Begovic.
Robertson. Alonso. Duffy. Wan Bissaka. Bednarek.
    Salah. Hazard. Richarlison. Pereyra. Fraser.
    Aguero. Giroud.

Reasonable logic in isolation, but doesn't look like he's travelled with the squad, so you might need to reconsider & move to Auba this week.

Has Shaqiri entered the Liverpool-cover discussion?
-Has played over 60 mins in each of the last three games.
-Passed the eye test, at least for me (should've beaten Pickford in that 1 v 1)
    -only 7.0m
For GW 17, thinking of a possible Salah+Richarlison=>Shaqiri+Sterling.
Thoughts? (0 City cover after doing the transfer of Kun=>Aubameyang)

Wouldn't sell Salah for him though even if it means you can bring in city coverage. Just don't trust players like Shaqiri around this time of year, he'll get you either 8 or 1 point. Unless you feel like taking the risk, sounds you're confident in him though

The dreaded winter rotation is often talked about with fear and caution, but the actual impact of it is debatable.

So, time for you all to earn some sweet (meaningless) bragging rights 😉

Let's have you calling out the players (Highly owned or suprise rotations) that you think will miss out this gameweek for one reason or another, and will therefore catch a lot of managers out.

Make sure to provide your reasoning, and throw in any decent sources you may have.

Some names you might consider (to get you started) : Salah, Sterling, Sane, Auba, Alonso, Robertson, Richarlison, Arnie, Hazard, Kane, and so on.

Of course, you might feel that rotation is completely overhyped... All opinions are welcome!

Aguero, Robertson and perhaps Sterling but think the Aguero news makes it more likely he will play

      1. Don Kloppeone

Why though? He was happy enough with Jesus last GW and has Mahrez to play instead of Sterling...

Sterling. The weekend match vs Chelsea is big in regards to the competition at the top. Resting your best players could be crucial. City have enough depth to cover the Watford game with quality.

He's young and fit, but Pep will certainly want to face Chelsea with a pretty much full strength squad for sure. Could argue it either way, but can definitely see that one being a frustrating benching for me.

Can see a case for Hazard, just back from injury having played 90 mins on Sunday. Wolves are in poor form, so Sarri may see it as winnable enough to bench Hazard for a huge game at the weekend.
(Purely speculative of course, and the fact that I just got rid of him may have influenced my trail of thought)

Yep agree with this. Think Sarri will want to protect him, but not sure if that will mean a late cameo, or an early sub off.

Never know, both of Sterling or Sane "could" make a cameo. Especially if Aguero is out, Sterling could easily replace Jesus and play last 10 up top? Hasnt done so far this season, but do they have anyone else to replace Jesus if Aguero isnt in squad?

Any of those worth a -4
      1. Patricio > Fabianski (thinking for the longer term, fabi will outscore Patricio)
      2. Martial > Son
      3. Robbo > Trippier (waiting on pressers for info)

2 if any but it carries obvious risk as Son is not nailed for this GW

^ This. When I WC I am almost certainly going to attempt Sané + Sterling otherwise you are too open to rotation-based blanks

Defensively, Arsenal still have a lot to work on imo. HOWEVER, Bellerin is a much better asset than any of their midfield options. Reasonably nailed on.

      Hart - (Foster)
      Laporte - Robbo - AWB - Doherty - (Peltier)
      Hazard - Salah - Richarlison - Mkhi - (Stephens)
      Lacazette - Arnie - (Jiminez)

      3ITB and 1FT
I rushed and bought Laca in for Aguero with out really thinking. I'm not sure that Mkhi will play, but still want to get Kane in so was thinking about -4:

      Hazard > Fraser
      Jiminez > Kane

What will Aguero's ownership be by 6.30pm tonight?

      Currently at 42.2%

I reckon it goes down to 35%. Based on no maths at all.
