Top 10k managers go on hunt for Man United assets

The top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have swooped for Manchester United assets after the strong start they have made under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Meanwhile, there has been a non trivial activity in the chips department this week mixed between Wildcards, Bench Boosts and Free Hits.

Looking at the spike of interest in United assets, we notice that, for the first time for at least ten Gameweeks, there are four Red Devils players with ownership higher than 10% at the top end of the game.

PlayerGW18 Top 10k ownershipGW19 Top 10k ownership
Rashford10.04%35.8%
Martial5.8%22.5%
Lingard0.25%12.6%
Pogba0.9%10.1%
Shaw0.6%6.96%

We see that some Man United players went from almost zero percent ownership (Jesse Lingard (0.25%), Paul Pogba (0.9%) and Luke Shaw (0.6%)) to significant backing in a matter of the three days between Gameweeks 18 and 19.

The most popular United asset is Marcus Rashford who left his 35.8% owners disappointed today with his blank.

Speaking of disappointment, the second most-owned United player, Anthony Martial, was not included in the match squad today, which means that the 22.5% top 10,000 managers who own him will have called their bench for help.

However, maybe that was not very disappointing as many have Aaron Wan-Bissaka as first substitute, and he is projected to get eight points this Gameweek after bonus points.

Meanwhile, the 10.1% managers who own Pogba this week certainly enjoyed his brace, which is the main reward Man United owners got today, plus the Lingard assist.

This Man United bias manifests itself even more in active Wildcards this week. 2.14% of top 10,000 managers delayed their first Wildcard up till this week, and they certainly made sure they got their Red Devils cover.

Rashford (60.75%) and Martial (34.58%) are the popular Wildcard picks, while Pogba made it to 27.43% of them. Wildcarders also favored Wan-Bissaka, Andy Robertson and Lucas Digne in defense and Mohamed Salah, Richarlison and Heung-Min Son in midfield who all proved to be decent picks for Gameweek 19.

On the other hand, 0.5% activated their Free Hit chip and their selection looks very similar to the Wildcard picks. Pogba features much more than Martial in these one-week only squads.

In addition, 1.1% found their bench promising enough to activate the Bench Boost chip and not wait for future opportunities. Taking a look at the benches of those teams (loosely defined as the cheapest players in their squad), we find the following players constituting most of the substitutes.

Bench PlayerPercentage
Wan-Bissaka86.85%
Fabianski43.2%
Doherty24.26%
Kolasinac23.4%
Digne20.7%

It was essentially Wan-Bissaka’s clean sheet and Digne’s brace that rewarded Bench Boosters this week. As this article was being finalized, the average intermediate scores for different chip users show that Free Hit (14 intermediate points gain over no chips) was actually the most successful this week (numbers are before the Watford-Chelsea game). Meanwhile, Triple Captainers (mainly captaining Salah) are second with a 10.1 gain.

About to play my WC, what do we think of this team?:

    Alisson (Speroni)
Robertson / Digne / Shaw / AWB (Bednarek)
    Salah / Hazard / Son / Pogba (Hudson-Odoi)
    Aubameyang / Ings (Quaner)

    0.0 left ITB.

It's probably a bit risky being stuck with both Quaner and Hud-Od as deadweight, but maybe that's a sacrifice worth making? Could upgrade Quaner to Kamara who seems to at least be playing, but would need to shave off 0.1 somewhere else.

    Cheers!

cant get away with that bench in january. allison to fab, pogba to martial and HO to pereyra. or something similar.

This. Neee at least a Kamara for forward line and a playing mid who is a chance of points

Doesn't even need to cost as much as Pereyra. Deulofeu will do, or at least Gibbs-White over HO as he is playing and looks decent

Duly noted, cheers lads. I'm going to downgrade either Shaw or Digne so I can afford to upgrade Quaner and HO; the question is, which one gets the chop?

Lovren or Arnold on a Wildcard?

Lovren more nailed till Gomez is back and great at bonus points + got a goal in him

But Arnold just seems more exciting and good attacking threat. Ive got a full squad of 15 solid options to cover benchings but obviously would want him to play most games with liverpool having best defence in the league.

Basically just struggling to be convinced arnold will get more points than lovren to justify the rotation risk

Didn't see the liverpool game today,

    Any thoughts?

I worry about rotation for TAA, but Lovren won’t get Attacking points every week. Now that they are only 0.2 different there’s little reason to go for Lovren imo

Cheers, think you're right, just looked at the stats (last 6) and hes right in the top 2/3 defenders for touches in the final third, chances created, big chances created, assists, crosses ,successful crosses.

Pretty much everything assist related too be honest haha, Also takes some corners and free kicks, think im convinced.

I’m at an interesting point where I have a WC but don’t know what to do as my team has been killing it the last month.

Who seems to be ‘essential’ or a good target for the next 5-6 GW?

    Pre wildcard team is

    Patricio (Hamer)
    Alonso - Lovren - TAA - AWB - Doherty
    Hazard - Salah - deuelfeu - richarlison - snodgrass
    Kane - Ings - jiminez

I think I’ll go for Pogba, but normally don’t like deep playing Mids,

Alonso worries me as he will sooner or later get a goal and a big haul.

Digne I think could come in if I chose to play 4 at the back maybe

I think you're good. If you wildcard you might be tempted to make more changes than it's necessary in order to justify it and you might mess up the team balance.

I'd want Aubameyang in my team but I'd want Hazard, Salah and Kane more so I don't see what can be done without radical changes.

      1. enrico.palazzo

If I were you I would consider downgrading Alonso and one of Deulofeu/Snodgrass/Jimenez/Ings in order to fund Aubameyang without having to drop any of the big hitters. But that's just me, you've been doing perfectly fine on your own.

yeah, just factoring in a 30-40% rotation risk for sterling followed by a game at anfield anfield, perhaps makes it worth considering, and was my reasoning for getting rid.

wilson to ings and kola to vvd is another option

Feel like it's finally time to get rid of Fraser. As much as he's been fantastic for his price and will probably still be a good value pick over the next 7/8 weeks there's better points potential elsewhere.

Thinking about getting Pogba in, but I'd need to either downgrade Alonso or Sterling to fund it.

    Sterling > Son
    Fraser > Pogba

is one option. Then in a couple weeks can maybe downgrade Alonso to TAA and go Son to Salah.

Thanks Amey! And yeah I know Son goes away - I already said to someone else it's not worth bringing him in but the plan is to get Salah for him. That said, if Pogba stops performing as well I might want Salah in for him and then I might prefer Alli/Eriksen.

1 ft 1.6 itb because I just did Sane --> Pogba. 0.1 short of Laca -> Aguero.

Do you think Aguero will drop? Thought he would because FPL had him -103.
If he doesnt drop before deadline, what would you do with the other FT?

    Fabs
    TAA Lovren Diop
    Hazard Son Pogba Martial Rich
    Kane Laca

    Subs: Hamer Jim Doherty Peltier

Thought of Diop -> Trippier. But I kind of dont want Laca in the team, but cant see who to go for. Not trippling up on united (rash or kaku). Mid is solid rn. They are all in form with decent fixtures. Firmino is not a good option because he plays deep. So what else is there really to do?

Still think far too early for no Citeh assets.
Laca to Firmino? Differential who will gradually pull in points.
Calvert Lewin could be great. Everton Management are grooming him anf if he gets pitch time he will score.

Firm plays too deep. Doesnt get enough points.

DCL is too risky for my liking.

No reason to bring in pool with the next two fixtures.

City is a mess and hard to tell what Pep will do to get things sorted. Aguero my favorite option as he is way better than Jesus and should be nailed given how things are going atm

Wouldn't worry too much about benching headaches, ultimately you'll have a stronger squad and its the points on the pitch that matter, obviously its annoying to have points on the bench but if your team is performing thats all that matters. Also ings has got man city and chelsea next so you can bench him for them 2 and unleash him after that. you'll have a main striker on penalties first sub aswell if/when the inevitable rotation kicks in.

Next 4 fixtures are great, playing up front,, looks good on the eye test, and probably got more goal threat, although I think snodgrass might start shooting more after the confidence of a couple of goals and is creating chances for fun. Both decent options but id go with Deulofeu on balance
