FPL Fixtures: Early guide to possible blank and double Gameweek dates

Manchester City’s victory over Liverpool last night marked the end of a hectic festive period in which 40 Premier League matches were contested across 14 days.

FA Cup third round weekend now brings some welcome respite in which to take a cursory look at the weeks and months ahead.

We’re only six Gameweeks away from the first mini-blank of the season, with the final of the EFL Cup set to be contested on the same weekend as Gameweek 27 in the Premier League.

Barring any seismic shocks in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, Manchester City’s Gameweek 27 match against Everton will be one of the Premier League games to fall victim of that schedule clash.

Burnley v Spurs or Chelsea v Brighton could also be affected, depending on which of the London sides triumphs in their forthcoming semi-final.

Gameweeks 31 and 33 will also very likely be blanks for some top-flight teams, with the FA Cup quarter-finals and semi-finals set to take place on those weekends.

At the moment, the much-anticipated “double Gameweeks” look likely to be in Gameweeks 32 and 35, given that the midweeks following those scheduled Premier League fixtures are the only ones not affected by European club competition or the March international break.

Forward-planning is not just about navigating the blanks and doubles, of course, but factoring in which top-flight sides have a congested fixture schedule around their league games.

Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester City are in EFL Cup action twice in January, while those three clubs plus Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal recommence their UEFA Champions League/Europa League campaigns from the middle of February onwards.

We’ve cobbled together a calendar for the remaining Gameweeks of the 2018/19 season, though in some cases (Premier League fixtures from Gameweek 29 onwards, FA Cup from fourth round onwards) the dates are subject to change due to the whims of the relevant television broadcasters.

      Tough one - you’re a bit stuck in the middle. I’d either go for a cheapie (Kamara/Success) or get another mill from somewhere and upgrade (Jimenez/Mitro/Murray).

    Is Robertson worth premium over TAA?

    I like security of starts to best defence in league which I'm not sure of TAA who'll probably get rotated once champions league resumes

      Clyne leaving for Bournemouth definitely boosts TAA’s chances of starting IMO. Only Milner to cover at RB if Trent gets injured and I imagine Klopp won’t do that too often. I have both though.

      I tend to look at the oppositions defenses and to me wolves represent the toughest, Wolves seldom lets in more than two, whereas West Ham is all over the place, Arsenal-Chelsea could be a high scoring affair like last time (2-3) and Huddersfield are bad but it´s away and Kun scores only home. Hudds kept them at 0-0 last year and they´re bad but defense wise not among the worse. Not sure whom i would go for in this case.

          Personally I think they are theee decent mid priced players but not going to get you regular hauls. If you can downgrade to get Pogba and cheapies that would be stronger imo....best of luck!

          And I wish Son was staying too!! Eriksen is temp cover for his return....

      if you like to rotate i think this team looks nice, combination of good cap options and a bunch of cheaper options which are capable of double digit returns. Could be in for frustration with benching points, but also good to have option in case of injuries etc. Let´s say for the sake of argument coming in, Rash last week, it´s very nice to have a decent sub coming in when the situation was unclear, i rather have someone like Fraser/snoddy than a fodder. Some will point out that you have too much money invested in bench but to me it is an investment in avoiding unecessary transfers.

        I concur, Had 31 points on the bench GW17 and got 19 points off the bench GW19. Rotating weaker teams I am not too fond of especially in defense. The weaker player invariably comes on and give you no points.

      Wolves defense says hi, arsenal are awful in defense but that´s 4 gw away and then they prob have a blank. Hudds and New are teams that just set up to defend and while they are bad they´re not conceding like crazy. Defo not considering vs Wolves but may consider before Hudds, i have a vacant spot when Son leaves, but no money itb so ideally should have had enough for sané but have not.

      I also personally am not dropping Jimenez unless absolutely necessary. Amazing pick at his price, especially if you got him a while back.

        I only brought him in this week too! I think I might have broken him. I’m not overly happy with Jimenez tbh, hes just not prolific enough. I never expect him to score 2 and assist one for example, like I do with Arnie.

        Tbh I’m just trying to find ways to stop the rot, 5 red arrows out of 6, overtaken by my causal rival and a dodgy wildcard used already. Starting to feel desperate..

    Over the past few weeks I, like others, have been preoccupied with ways to try to cram Salah into my team - this would be at the expense of at least 2 (in different combos obv) from Auba Kane Alonso Sane, making way to free funds etc....

    But at least for now, does it look worth the hassle with my team? If yeah, please explain your thinking so I can decide on that, and if not where would you spend one of my 2FT & 0.1 ITB here:

        It does indeed. Just sold Fraser though a few weeks ago to get Pogba in, having bought originally at 5.6... don’t know if I can then bring myself to buy him at his way higher price now?

          Well, idk. Maybe wouldn’t ditch after all. Can’t see much else I’d use FT on. Just frustrating how he always seems to be conceding because the rest of their defence is so awful. That said can’t see many better options at his price point so I’ll likely keep.

      It’s just, all of the above mentioned sill have pretty great fixtures... I don’t know who I’d realistically be comfortable dropping.

      But then at the same time very nervous going w/o Salah.

      Auba out probably the way I’m leaning just now, however his fixtures and form are still nice... would also require a downgrade elsewhere in the team
