FPL Fixtures: Early guide to possible blank and double Gameweek dates

Manchester City’s victory over Liverpool last night marked the end of a hectic festive period in which 40 Premier League matches were contested across 14 days.

FA Cup third round weekend now brings some welcome respite in which to take a cursory look at the weeks and months ahead.

We’re only six Gameweeks away from the first mini-blank of the season, with the final of the EFL Cup set to be contested on the same weekend as Gameweek 27 in the Premier League.

Barring any seismic shocks in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, Manchester City’s Gameweek 27 match against Everton will be one of the Premier League games to fall victim of that schedule clash.

Burnley v Spurs or Chelsea v Brighton could also be affected, depending on which of the London sides triumphs in their forthcoming semi-final.

Gameweeks 31 and 33 will also very likely be blanks for some top-flight teams, with the FA Cup quarter-finals and semi-finals set to take place on those weekends.

At the moment, the much-anticipated “double Gameweeks” look likely to be in Gameweeks 32 and 35, given that the midweeks following those scheduled Premier League fixtures are the only ones not affected by European club competition or the March international break.

Forward-planning is not just about navigating the blanks and doubles, of course, but factoring in which top-flight sides have a congested fixture schedule around their league games.

Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester City are in EFL Cup action twice in January, while those three clubs plus Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal recommence their UEFA Champions League/Europa League campaigns from the middle of February onwards.

We’ve cobbled together a calendar for the remaining Gameweeks of the 2018/19 season, though in some cases (Premier League fixtures from Gameweek 29 onwards, FA Cup from fourth round onwards) the dates are subject to change due to the whims of the relevant television broadcasters.

The FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League finals take place after the Premier League season ends, on Saturday May 19, Wednesday May 29 and Saturday June 1 respectively.

The excellent Ben Crellin is an invaluable resource at this time of year, particularly his “percentages” spreadsheets regarding the chances of all 20 Premier League clubs being without a fixture on a blank Gameweek.

Think you've got enough cover on your bench and any changes I'd make to your first XI are v much 50/50 so I'd probably save it - I'm toying up Fraser/Pereyra myself so that's the only one I can suggest really

Or go cheap and bank the money you will need when son comes back. That would be to replace one of bilva or rich.

I'd downgrade one or Rich or Bilva (or both) and get a better midfielder

What's the best combo from GW23-27 available here?

    A) Pogba & Fraser
    B) Pogba & Pereyra
    C) Pogba (from GW24, Anderson for GW23) & Rich
    D) Eriksen (from GW24, Anderson for GW23) & Fraser

Rest of my midfield is Salah Haz Hojbjerg so open to other suggestions not including them

    2FTs. 0.4itb. Tough call...

    A. Schindler >> Bedranek (roll FT)
    B. Kola >> TAA (roll FT)
    C. Son+Auba >> Salah+Arnie

    Fabianski
    Digne • AWB • Kola
    Haz • Son • Rich • FAnders • Martial
    Kane • Auba
    (Button / Schindler / Kamara / Doherty)

Will Captain Salah in C. Otherwise Haz/Auba/Son/Kane in A&B.

Also true. I can do A and then Son+Auba >> Salah+Rash for a -4 but seems a bad move to then have double Man U away at Spurs. They looked poor against even us (Newcastle)

    9. TheDragon

Liverpool defender is close to essential.

I’ve currently got Luiz, Digne, Kolasinac (plus AWB and Jonny). I’m considering TAA in this week probably for Kolasinac (although I think Kola has huge attacking potential, just a shame Arsenal can’t defend). So really Kola and Digne are sort of similar but Everton have the fixtures.

      1. RAFA THE GAFFA
        • 8 Years
        5 years, 3 months ago

        Yeah agree.

I’m thinking about doing A. Which leaves me enough money to do Son+Auba+Kola >> Salah+Arnie/Rash+TAA for a -4 the week after

        1. TheDragon
          • 6 Years
          5 years, 3 months ago

Salah is essential I agree. I’ve got Auba and I really think his stats indicate he is going to start exploding soon - so there is some risk that the -4 really comes back to haunt you.

I know you can’t have them all.... I’m currently going with Kane, Auba and Salah and doing without Hazard

Hassenhuttl stated after the match there was an elemental of it being a tactical change due to Chelsea's style of football, would be wary that he's not 100% nailed - McCarthy's been great over the last year (saved us last season) and could well work his way back into the side.

Yes but he was picked over McCarthy and given he was excellent there is no logical reason that he won't start the next game. Keepers don't tend to get rotated.

Hey guys. Mind imparting some advice?

    Fabiabski
    Robertson / Digne / Kolasinac
    Hazard / Son / Pogba / Martial
    Kane / Aubameyang / Ings

    Hamer // AWB / Camarasa / Doherty

    Which looks better? 2 FTs.
    A) Kane / Martial >> Rashford / Salah
    B) Aubameyang / Son >> Salah / Rashford

A leaves 0 ITB. B leaves 0.1 ITB, for Kolasinac >> TAA, perhaps. Rashford could also be Arnautovic. Read the article earlier. Aubameyang has some crazy stats... Tougher fixtures though.

Not sure on Gunn and Guiata, I'd maybe just pick Etheridge/Patricio and a 4.0. Also wouldn't go Sane, assuming this is for a GW26 WC - City have Chelsea then likely a blank. Would downgrade him and upgrade Kamara

Looks a lot like my wc team, might have a slightly better TV:
      Gunn Guaita
      Robertson VVD Doherty AWB Bednarek
Salah Hazard Pogba Felipe A Camarasa
      Kane Rashford Arnie

I'm getting Son when he's back, probably for Felipe and downgrading a Liverpool defender. So yeah i like your WC team, i'm monitoring the GK's (hennessey already on bench and Guaita has done well, Gunn done well when called upon and his start vs chelsea is promising)

Blank against Brighton. 1 goal only return in 5 goal rout of Burnley. Only 3 shots on target last 4. Everton shambles last game. Fraser is 1m cheaper

I got Pogba before he was cool Kiwi. I've had all his hauls, so I'm fine. I now think Rich will haul, in the coming weeks. It's about catching the fires, not the embers.

Rich has 10pts in his last 10 games. That's his biggest haul in that period. 3 shots on target last 4 is not conducive to hauls. What are you basing on? Gut feeling

Mostly, yes. Add Arnie into the equation though, who essentially is a big part of the -4. The two of them will hit scores over the next 4 GWs imo.

just exercise patience your team is pretty good.

not a massive fan of so much united though and dont like success. Arnie/Richi/Siggy seem obvious targets.
in defence Pereira, Kola, Doherty all reasonable choices if you fancied a switch.

Think your team is OK bud. However you need to use at least one ft. I would get rid of Schindler to Bednarek, which frees up more cash. Then upgrade either Felipe or Rich, whichever you trust the least. I would personally get rid of Felipe due to less favourable fixtures.

      pretty template. no pressing concerns

a few options I would consider for improvements:
      1) you could flip Anderson into Arnie if you wanted as it looks like he will canabalise his points
      2) upgrade Hamer to Guaita
      3) switch out schindler to some alternative

    4. TheDragon
      • 6 Years
      5 years, 3 months ago

Team looks ok really. It’s just very volatile at the moment with lots of viable options.

I still like Aubameyang but think you need to stick with Hazard. Somthing like FAnderson and Kamara to Arnautovic and 4.5 mid will likely be popular. Maybe a bit sideways. Depends if you want to stick with 3-5-2 structure

    Fabs Hamer
    Digne Robbo Doherty WB Shaw
    Hazard Siggy Martial Sane Billing
    Kane Auba Ings

A: WC and at least take out Siggy/Martial/Sane/Auba for Salah/Arnie or Rash/Pogba/Rich or Felipe
B: Auba and Sane out for Salah and Rash/Arnie -4
C: Same as A for -12 and save WC.
D: Never mind Salah, he will flop rest of season

I know some teams fixtures turn for the better from GW 26, so that is where I had my thoughts in using the WC.

        For reasons:
        - reasons for Arnie are what Mark za id on his ‘meet the manager’

        - reasons not Rashford: you already have Pogba as united attack cover - Rashfords output last 3 weeks is not sustainable. United have only played weak teams so bit early to double up in my opinion, Rashford has most competition for places and I think has some rotation risk (whereas Arnie is nailed on when not injured)

Best back 6 would probably be McCarthy Cedric Yoshida Bednarek Vestergaard Bertrand, but Bednarek (and maybe Vestergaard) the only ones out of them who are really nailed atm. Cedrid looks pretty much back and almost nailed as well, could be really good value. Playing a lot better defensively under RH, but will struggle while Yoshida is away.

Who to get rid of for Salah?

    A) Fanderson
    B) Sane
    C) Richarlison (would need 2 moves)

Kane & Quaner -> Rashford & Arnie , which other transfer?

    A) Son -> Sterling (maybe captain)
    B) Anderson -> Sane

Hey, would you do Hazard to Salah for free? I would be captaining Auba if I kept Haz/ Salah if I brought him in.

Hey guys. Mind imparting some advice please?

    Fabiabski
    Robertson / Digne / Kolasinac
    Hazard / Son / Pogba / Martial
    Kane / Aubameyang / Ings

    Hamer // AWB / Camarasa / Doherty

    Which looks better? 2 FTs.
    A) Kane/Martial >> Rashford/Salah
    B) Aubameyang/Son >> Salah/Rashford

A leaves 0 ITB. B leaves 0.1 ITB, for Kolasinac >> TAA, perhaps. Rashford could also be Arnautovic. Read the article earlier. Aubameyang has some crazy stats... Tougher fixtures though.

Both of those options are a risk.
Have you considered losing Hazard for Salah?

I'd be more tempted to do B with Arnie coming in. 3x united would be overkill

Agree - 3x United is way too much

It is, but Martial would be making way pretty soon.

Seriously contemplating one of the following moves in the quest to get Salah.
At the same time I knlow Hazard could do well against Newcastle...
    What do you think?

    A) Alonso and Hazard to Luiz and Salah. (-4)

    B) Hazard and Kane to Salah and Auba.(-4)
