Fantasy managers consider Salah and Mané switch

Is Mohamed Salah (£13.5m) worth the money? A question we find ourselves mulling over again ahead of Gameweek 29 after the Egyptian managed just three points in Liverpool’s 5-0 rout of Watford on Wednesday night. Around this time last season, the Reds smashed Watford 5-0 with Salah bagging four goals. What a difference a year makes!

Owners of Sadio Mane (£9.7m) and Liverpool defenders were the big winners this week. Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.3m) and Andrew Robertson (£6.8m) combined to score an unbelievable fifty-one points while Mane came away with thirteen after his brace. He’s now scored six goals in his last six appearances compared to Salah’s three.

Salah out, Mane in, could be a popular move this week. The cash saved can go a long way…

Chelsea followed up a good performance against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final with an impressive 2-0 win over rivals Spurs. The Blues seem to be turning the corner just at the right time for us fantasy managers. They face Fulham (a), Wolves (h) and Everton (a) in the next three and are likely to have a Double Gameweek 32 made up of Cardiff (a) and Brighton (h) before facing West Ham (h) in Blank Gameweek 33. They are a team we can all target regardless of our chip strategy.

Eden Hazard (£10.8m) managed just fifty-nine minutes against Spurs after completing 120 minutes in the cup final on Sunday which should see him fresh to wreak havoc in the Fulham defence at the weekend.

At just 2.7% ownership, Gonzalo Higuain (£9.5m) could be an explosive differential in the coming Gameweeks with those kind fixtures. Pedro (£6.3m) got himself on the scoresheet in Gameweek 28 and could be an option for those who are free-hitting in Gameweek 32.

David Luiz (£5.9m) registered his 12th clean sheet of the campaign and is another who is sure to be transferred in by many this week. Marcos Alonso (£6.4m) picked up all three bonus points without any attacking returns to remind us of what he can offer.

Rafa Benitez is one of the best in the business when it comes to organising a defence and making his team difficult to break down. The Magpies have kept back-to-back clean sheets and still have a favourable run of fixtures ahead. The three centre-backs, Jamaal Lascelles (£4.6m), Fabian Schär (£4.7m) and Florian Lejeune (£4.4m) are all worthy of consideration. All three offer an attacking threat as well as their clean sheet potential. Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka (£5.0m) is an awkward price but could be worth the outlay.

It will be interesting to see what effect Brendan Rodgers will have at Leicester City. Will Harvey Barnes (£5.5m) keep his place? Will Jamie Vardy (£8.8m) go on a run? Will we see the best of James Maddison (£6.6m)? Can Rodgers shore up the defence? Lots of questions that we don’t know the answers to yet so it may be best to give him a game or two in charge to assess things before investing.

The forgotten man in FPL, Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.2m) popped up with a brace midweek to bag himself sixteen points. He’s now the seventh highest-scoring midfielder in the game yet is owned by just 5.7%. The upcoming fixtures combined with Everton’s poor form before their 3-0 win at Cardiff will put managers off but we’ve seen it season after season that Siggy delivers points consistently. Don’t rule him out of your plans.

There are quite a few captaincy options for the weekend. Man City assets should do well against a leaky Bournemouth defence. Raheem Sterling (£11.3m) is likely to start the game having come off the bench against West Ham. Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) could do serious damage if Gabriel Jesus (£9.9) remains on the sidelines.

Paul Pogba (£8.9m) at home to Southampton will be trusted by plenty with the armband. He and United are in great form despite their mounting injury problems.

Chelsea’s fixture away at Fulham looks tasty for the likes of Hazard and Higuain.

Will Salah deliver in the Merseyside derby or will Mane outshine him again?

Harry Kane (£12.4m) vs Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) will be an interesting shoot-out in the North-London derby. Will Son Heung-min (£8.9m) return to form?

There’s a great weekend of Premier League action ahead of us, enjoy it and good luck for the Gameweek.

Think I'm going to do Sane > Sterling. A little bit sideways but I reckon BOU this weekend will be a bloodbath and Raheem will be licking up all them points

          GW30 - WC
          GW31 - FH
          GW32 - TC/BB
          GW35- TC/BB

only issue is 33 but looking I will probably have 2 city and 2 united players. Fixtures that week are awful anyway and I reckon will be low scoring all round. LIV/ARS players only ones that you want and everyone is gonna have triple pool anyway.

Auba to Higuain. Now 4.8 ITB. Save the other FT?

    Fabianski (Boruc)
    Robertson Doherty Pereira (Bednarek AWB)
    Salah Pogba(c) Son Anderson (Camarasa)
    *Higuain* Rashford Jimenez

Looking at getting Mane, maybe King/Wilson, maybe another defender for the BGWs.

Main big concern is no City (namely Aguero) still until FH32 and then WC34.

    Cheers in advance 🙂

Is the bench boost/ DGW combo overrated? I mean, unless you have more than 11 players with a double you’ll have single gameweek players benched anyway, just like any GW, and therefore the marginal gain is the same. I appreciate that in reality you’ll be able to include premium single GW players if you use it in a double, and get a budget bench with two fixtures. Still, I think this has swayed me to use the TC in DGW35- I’ve hyped up BB too much in my own head.

Yeah its the 15 DGWers mantra that gets in your head...it really depends on a real quality TC option...

Yeah you’re right, half hoping Chelsea can get BUR, BHA. Would make 32 a little less fruitful but would make Hazard an amazing TC. He’s served me very well this season for captaincy.
Seem to remember TCing him a few seasons ago for fixtures of Sunderland and Watford and getting a 6 pointer though...

I completely get what your saying but the logic being your 2nd choice keeper will probably have 2 games so already a gain of 2. I genuinely see that as the main benefit from it

Yeah that’s fair, and spot on. Guess it’s closer than I made out... TCing in a single make sense me queasy though.

No it's not over rated, it's the only chance you get all season to score over 200 points in a single week
You can get the points from 32 players instead of 12.

      1. Tev
        • 6 Years
        5 years, 1 month ago

You can get 24 without using the boost, and what are the actual odds you’ll have 15 with two games? Without completely ruining your team for the final few that is, especially this season.
Make that 26 for the use of a TC and the picture becomes much less clear.

The week I scored 215 points I had all 32 games.
There may be a few single game-weekers in there this time but they will be Liverpool players who I don't want to lose.

That’s crazy, fair play. If you have 11 players with doubles the maths actually evens itself out completely. I’d just be happier TCing in a double to reduce the variance!

With me not having a keeper playing in gw31 and gw33 blanks, I'm interested in getting Kepa in provided he starts this weekend.

Currently at 4 GW 31 players. Still more afraid to miss out on big hitters before GW31 than to be short of players that GW.
Which alternative will be most rewarding?

    A) Aguero(might be rested) + Son -> Sterling(C) + Vardy(GW31) (-4)

    B) Trippier -> Pereira (and Captain Pogba)

    C) Cedric -> Lascelles/Mee (and Captain Pogba)

    D) Save FT

      4?! Jesus.
Don’t like A, as much as I like Sterling as an option this week, because bringing in a City player is a waste of a transfer that you desperately need to reshape for the blanks. If you save you could potentially do some more major reshuffling and take a -4 next week to go up to 7.

I see your point. Just thinking a Sterling(C) could outscore 5 GW31 players from mid table teams..

Neither Arsenal or Chelsea are any good away so the fixtures aren’t as threatening as they might appear. I’d simply much prefer him to Fanny despite any Huddersfield fixture.

    Fabianski Boruc

Robertson Bednarek Digne Bennett Wan Bissaka

    Salah Son Anderson Pogba Hojberg

    Aubameyang Vardy Jiminez

Got 0.4 itb and options are:

    2. Aubameyang to Higuain for free
    3. Son to Hazard and Aubameyang to Barnes for -4

Apologies if this has been repeated many times but for clarification, is this how the GW's are expected to look?
Are we looking at potentially a triple GW for Man City in 37 if they keep progressing in competitions?
Any best guesses on when the Chelsea Brighton game will get moved to?

GW29 - Transfer to teams playing in 31
GW30 -Transfer to teams playing in 31
    GW31 - 5 Matches
    GW32 - 11 Matches - Free hit
    GW33 - 6 Matches (assuming Brighton & City Win)
    GW34 - 10 Matches -Wildcard
GW35 - Multiple DGW- Bench Boost
    GW36 - 10 Matches
    GW37- Multiple DGW -Triple Captain
    GW38- 10 Matches

Does this look like a solid strategy building up to GW31?

This gw: Son, Kamara => Brooks, Higuain
GW30: Sterling, AWB => Hazard, Chilwell
-4 to bring in a new keeper

End up with 10 players playing.

Fab has Huddersfield at home - that is the only hit I’d personally consider. It is West Ham defence but the cs is a good bet.

You could argue for Schmeichel of Boruc but Huddersfield look increasingly decent at home. I’d ignore anyone else for a hit.

Yeah. Nice to have those too.
You'd miss Mane in BGW's imo (not being smart just what I feel)

I was looking at ditching VVD for a Newcastle defender , but probably isn't a hit i need to take

Fear now of Boruc getting dropped? - was not too clever yesterday though in fairness had little cover...

Howe and Begovic are done after their tussle. I think Boruc starts remainder of the season.

    Alisson
    Doherty - Lascelles - Pereira - Robertson
    Salah - Son - Pogba
    Rashford - Jimenez - Agüero

    Bench: Button, Richarlison, Laporte, Camarasa.

    2FT and 1.3M ITB.

Going for the FH32-strategy and therefore building towards GW31.

Son and Laporte to Hazard and Diop/Tarkowski (which is the better option? Got 5.1M available for a defender if I bring in Hazard.

    2FT's 1.9 spare
    Any advice here?

    Fabianski
    Bennett - Robertson - Kolasinac
    Salah - Son - F.Anderson - Pogba
    Rashford - Jiminez - Aguero

Speroni - Digne - Wan Bissake - Biling

Not for gw 31 and 33.
      Can wait until 31 deadline

      I can't get to sleep
      I think about the implications
      Of diving in too deep
      And possibly the complications
      Especially at night
      I worry over situations
      I know will be alright
      Perhaps it's just imagination
      Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
      Ghosts appear and fade away
      Alone between the sheets
      Only brings exasperation
It's time to walk the streets
      Smell the desperation
      At least there's pretty lights
      And though there's little variation
      It nullifies the night
      From overkill

Best Bournemouth asset for their great run of fixtures?

    a) Fraser
    b) Brooks
    c) King
    d) Clyne
    e) Wilson (expected back 3/9)

Just pick one and hope. They did abysmally last year when they had a similarly great looking run. Brooks offers decent value as a fifth mid

I haven't had Salah since GW12. My rank in that time has gone from 97k to 34k. Had Mane since GW23.

For those planning to build for GW31 and then free hit GW32, is anybody considering using the TC chip either this GW or GW30? I fancy Aguero or Sterling at home to Watford GW30.

I think Sterling(c) is to big an opportunity to pass on and I will bring in Hazard in 31
