Scoutcast Episode 287 – Battling

After a bruising Gameweek 29, the Scoutcast soldiers are ready to wage war on the remaining fixtures of 2018/19.

Helping them out is regular listener FPL Reuser, who has come up with a cunning plan for Fantasy Premier League success that involves collecting a strong armoury of sturdy shields and razor-sharp swords.

Joe, David, Luke and Andy discuss the best shields, which are high-owned players needed for protection against red arrows. Also covered are the finest swords, which refers to low-owned players with the perfect combination of points potential and solid fixtures.

Getting the right combination in place may well be the Holy Grail of Fantasy management that the Scoutcast has been searching for over the last decade.

Our merry band of podcast pugilists also find time to look ahead to the upcoming blank fixtures in Gameweeks 31 and 33 with a focus on the best Liverpool and Bournemouth assets to own.

While Az couldn’t attend due to other commitments, he did find time to drop by in the YouTube chat during this episode’s live streaming to set us straight about the Everton defence.

Elsewhere, David lays into Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo and reveals how a discarded plastic bag is now dictating his transfer decisions.

The Scoutcast troops also mull over the key decisions facing them in Gameweek 30, including the best differential ‘swords’ to acquire, the likeliest clean sheets and their transfer and captaincy plans.

Finally, this episode ends by flagging up the work of the charity Anthony Nolan, which carries out fantastic work saving the lives of people with blood cancer.

This follows the news from community member FPL Poker Player that his daughter was diagnosed with leukaemia last year. Although in remission, she still needs a bone marrow transplant. People can help support the work of Anthony Nolan by making a donation or signing up to be a bone marrow donor via their website

I’d say he is responsible... he made sure UTD kept the pressure on which forced the errors in the first place... one of the major changes Olé brought about was the work rate of the whole team

I planned my transfers to have 12 players for the blanks with just one hit in week 25. Whilst doing that my rank has risen as stated above, I'm just pointing out that your idea about losing points due to planning for the blanks isn't necessarily correct. I'm not going to start listing out individual player scores.

That the only thing that’d shock me more than the Madrid Ajax result is if United can pull it off with SO many players out injured and Pogba suspended, away from home to PSG.

But lo and behold! Bit of a jammy pen but insane stuff. Well done United.

I get that it's just my opinion, but I'm pretty sure anyone who says Mbappe is better is basing that opinion on the world cup only. Ask a PSG fan who they think is better and they'd likely say Neymar. I'd even argue Verratti is a more important player to them than Mbappe at this point in time.

Dude, Mbappe has the chance to be one of the all-time greats and is yrs younger (20 vs. 27) than Neymar. Kylian has pace that sprinters dream about and has scored a bucketload of goals already....We've likely already seen Neymar's 'peak', which was very impressive, but injuries are starting to derail him. Can't say the same for Mbappe.

I don't doubt Mbappe's potential, but at this point in time Neymar is the better player. If Mbappe had been injured instead of Neymar they'd probably be celebrating being in the quarters right now.

Would enable TC in 32 and United, Spurs and City all have great fixtures around 35 but not 35 itself.

It's interesting isn't it. He was always a great goalscorer, but it's so easy to think that a player has lost it just because his manager stops playing to his strengths. I'll be really interested to see his FPL price next season.

OK, I'll rephrase it, great scorer of goals, if not a natural finisher. At Everton he always used to bundle his way into the right place at the right time and had the pace and strength to get on the end of through balls and create chances, even if he missed a few.

                    Any better?

PS you all knew what I meant.

Honestly, never been a fan. Worked well at Everton where teams have them space in behind to play to his strengths. But he doesn't have the football intelligence of a kane to play with his back to goal and get involved in build up.

Quite rightly loadsa praise to Ole but credit to all the coaching staff.
Mike Phelan was so important to Fergie in his last few years and Moyes was 100% wrong to push him out the door and not to keep him on. He’s back and look at them. They’ve not won the league since phelan left

I think Ole has got the job in the bag. They decide to make the announcement after the season ends so as to avoid disrupt any flow to the club’s form and the running of club activities.

So you can't be arsed to look. Fair enough.

My point as I made earlier is that the interpretation of the rule seems to have changed with var, not that any referee has it wrong.

The rule states there should be a clear intention of moving the hand to the ball.

The assistants handle offside differently now with var too.

You're slow on the uptake. It doesn't, because the act ITSELF (of putting one's arms in an "unnatural position" is a signal of intent - the ref doesnt need to read someone's mind, just watch their arms)...which renders your insistence on the word or discernment of a player's 'intent', moot. It's built into the definition, like if I hold a gun pointed at a bank teller, it's attempted robbery no matter what, whether or not I say or think "Im robbing you".

                            Comprende'?

soon as he turns his back he's put himself in a bad position. lost all control of his body and positioning
faces the shot and he can watch where his body / arms are.
                    it's a penalty.

I still can't decide, and the feedback has been split evenly. So here's my last attempt (already have Robbo and Salah).

                  Bring in:
                  1) Mane
                  2) TAA

                      Boom! Tiebreaker. I'll take it.
                      Thanks.

United have a very congested fixture list now, will that affect them?

For sure - but despite the injuries the fixtures the good run continues
