Live Hall of Fame update: Sean Tobin leads the way from Mark Sutherns

The international break gives us the chance to study our recently updated Live Hall of Fame and analyse the team set-ups of those managers who feature in the top ten.

The ranking system that we speak of is applied to everyone who takes part in either of our Fantasy Premier League mini-leagues, with managers’ performances over the seasons then tracked to give a Hall of Fame (HoF) rating.

The live version has been updated to take into account Blank Gameweek 31’s results and can be viewed by Members via this link.

Further information on the FFS Hall of Hame is included at the bottom of this article, but alternatively, you can view this movie to listen to Mark and Rate My Team’s Chris Atkinson discuss the feature.

The Career version, which shows the standings at the end of last season, is free to view here or via the HoF tab on the home page.

2017/18 Career HoF Top Ten: Where are they now?

Three of the Fantasy managers who featured in the top ten of our Career Hall of Fame standings at the end of the 2017/18 remain in the list in our Live Hall of Fame rankings: namely Mark Sutherns (now 2nd), Marlen Rattiner (3rd) and Grant Barclay (4th).

Matthew Jones and Richard Clarke lurk just outside the top ten in 12th and 20th place, while Jay Egersdorff, Owen Walker, Paul Gee, Lester Cheng and Ville Rönkä sit 140th, 24th, 34th, 194th and 52nd respectively.

Live HoF Top Ten: Changes since Gameweek 26

Our last Live Hall of Fame article came after Gameweek 26 in mid-February.

Since then, there have been two new entrants in the top ten – Sir Edo Nygren (9th) and Mark Hurst (10th) taking the places of Matthew and Rick Beamish.

Sean Tobin remains top of our Live HoF and currently sits in 28th place in the world, while Mark S. – who topped the Live HoF going into Gameweek 31 having briefly entered the top 1k – remains second.

Marlen has risen from 9th to 3rd, while Grant drops one place to 4th.

Fabio Borges (5th), Aleksander Våge Nilsen (6th) and Alan Day (8th) have all climbed places within the Live HoF top ten, with Stephen Harrap moving down to 7th.

Sir Edo sits an impressive 85th in the world, while Fabio and Alan currently lie 336th and 352nd respectively.

Stephen and Aleksander are tied on 1,963 FPL points but Aleksander ranks nine places higher in 435th due to having made fewer transfers.

Current world number one Adam Levy deserves a mention, too – he sits 54th in our Live HoF after his stellar season, having been 2,549th in our Career Hall of Fame at the end of 2017/18.

Live HoF Top Ten: Chip Usage

Four members of our Live HoF – Grant, Stephen, Aleksander and Mark H. – used their Triple Captain chip in Gameweek 25.

The six other managers in our top ten retain their Triple Captain chips, while all ten bosses have their second Wildcard, Bench Boost and Free Hit chips available.

As we will discuss below, it seems likely that our managers will be deploying their Free Hit chip (or possibly their Wildcard) ahead of Double Gameweek 32.

Live HoF Top Ten: Blank Gameweek 31

All of our top ten managers fielded 11 players with a fixture in Gameweek 31, although Alan was let down by a no-show from Christopher Schindler.

Five of the FPL bosses above managed to get a full complement of players out without taking a hit, while four took a ‘-4’ to do so. Mark S. made four transfers at the cost of 12 points.

Live HoF Top Ten: Player Selection

As of Gameweek 31, the most popular FPL assets in our Live HoF top ten were as follows:

10 – Lukasz Fabianski, Mohamed Salah
9 – Eden Hazard
8 – Matt Doherty, Sadio Mane, Jamie Vardy
6 – Andrew Robertson
5 – Ricardo Pereira, Paul Pogba, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Salomon Rondon, Richarlison
4 – David Button, David Luiz, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Callum Wilson
3 – Felipe Anderson, Raul Jimenez, Lucas Digne, Ryan Fraser, Ashley Barnes

The average number of players per Premier League team owned by our top ten is as follows:

3.0 – Liverpool
1.8 – Leicester
1.6 – West Ham
1.4 – Bournemouth, Chelsea
1.3 – Wolves
0.8 – Everton
0.7 – Newcastle
0.5 – Huddersfield, Manchester United
0.4 – Brighton, Crystal Palace
0.3 – Burnley, Cardiff, Fulham
0.1 – Arsenal, Manchester City, Southampton
0.0 – Spurs, Watford

Live HoF Top Ten: Possible Strategies

We could very well see every single one of our Live HoF top ten use their Free Hit chips (or, alternatively, their Wildcards) in Gameweek 32.

There is only an average of 4.7 players with a Double Gameweek 32 in our featured managers’ squads (and that figure includes the likes of David Button and Aboubakar Kamara), suggesting these elite FPL bosses will be overhauling their teams during the international break.

Marlen is the only manager in our Live HoF top ten who owns a Manchester City asset (Ederson).

The highest number of Double Gameweek 32 players in one of our featured squads is six.

What makes the Free Hit seem the likelier option is that our managers are already well set to field full starting XIs in Blank Gameweek 33: our Live HoF top ten have an average of 12.1 players in their squads who have a Premier League fixture in that Gameweek.

Meet the Manager

Three of our Live HoF top ten have already filmed Meet the Manager episodes with Joe and these videos can be watched via the links below:

Sean Tobin
Mark Sutherns
Aleksander Våge Nilsen

Another 11 episodes of this series can be viewed on our YouTube page.

Hall of Fame FAQ

How is my rating calculated?
The “HoF Rating” is based on your points scores from previous FPL seasons, with the latest season weighted the heaviest and each corresponding season weighted at roughly 80% that of the previous season. So, in other words, those who performed best in 2017/18 will receive a bigger HoF Rating boost from those who did best in 2007/08. The “HoF Ranking” even allows for those with missing years, adapting the formula accordingly to allow rookies to rank alongside the veterans of FPL.

How do I join the Hall of Fame
Simply sign up to our leagues next season, either the Fantasy Football Scout Classic League or if you’re a member, the Members’ Classic League – the code for the latter league is available on the dashboard of the Members’ Area.

How do I find myself in the Hall of Fame?
The search box at the top of the ranking tables allows you to search by surname or by FPL id.

What if I don’t want to be listed?
Either notify us via support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk or simply leave the relevant Fantasy Football Scout FPL league and you’ll be removed on the next update.

When does the Hall of Fame get updated?
The Career table is available to all and is updated at the end of each season to display the latest rankings. The Live version of the Hall of Fame is updated throughout the season to reflect the scores of the current campaign.

I wish to opine that the separate FH thread is a sheer failure.

I understand that your intention was to reduce the "eyesoreness" of FH RMTs, but what it has actually done is unfairly dump us ("us" = "DGW32 Free Hitters") into a not-obviously-findable, poorly-advertised, relatively-inactive void of ignorance, for the sake of "cleanliness".

I assume you will counter-argue and say that it's available from the "Articles" section, but I stand on my point that it is "poorly-advertised". I get the feeling that the masses do not even bother to leave the main articles to go have a look there.

    Respectfully yours,

    A disappointed FFS lover

I’m a FH32 player and am very happy with that decision so don’t lump us all in together

I’d rather discussion of all the options instead of the same 20 or so players crammed into the same 15 with little variation spamming the pages.

Then at the last minute will post my team for reference only.

I understand you but imagin full of RMFHT posts here plus all almost the same.
As I see it its better to ask "do you prefer Chelsea double def" plus your opinion or "pick Jim or Zaha" plus your thoughts instead of posting team with Aguero, Stetling and Pogba which are obvious to most here.
You will get better replies to that kind of questions which will help you more than "good team" replies, right?

There is no need to "imagine" that, it has always been the case since the existence of FFS and Wildcards.

        I agree with this.

I'm way more likely to respond to a question that says 'Do you prefer Alli or Eriksen?' over a full RMT where most things are the same except Alli and Eriksen. Unless it's in the RMT section, where I go when I want to see RMTs. I do find them useful sometimes!

But if you really want my attention you should frame it like this:
'Do you prefer Alli or Eriksen? I prefer Alli because [...] but I am thinking about Eriksen because [...]. Which should I go for?'

Show me you've thought about it, and give me something to work on. It also helps contribute valuable thoughts to the site 🙂

I understand your concerns but I am disappointed that you view our efforts as this. I will pass it along to Geoff and co, but I'll give my view on it.

We aim to move the mass bulk of RMTs off the front page articles because they were becoming cluttered with information that was user specific, not posts that were useful to a wider audience. Obviously, as FFS has grown, this has become more and more of an issue in recent seasons.

Not obviously findable? It's the top article on the articles sidebar. No different to HTs, just takes some getting used to.

Poorly advertised? Mods are frequently around to remind people, but we can't do it 24/7, and I don't think users would want us to be.

Relatively inactive? I mentioned it earlier today, but I disagree. During DZ times, it stands to reason that less people will be around to keep 2 different articles active, so I personally am a lot more lenient about directing people to the separate article, as I feel it is less needed. As the day continues, more and more people start posting and then the RMFHT article does become active. Just requires users to have the decency of responding to others, instead of just wanting answers for themselves.

Void of ignorance? I don't see what this brings to the table, other than highlight your ignorance perhaps. Maybe I've misunderstood you here.

I'm sorry you're disappointed, but it is a necessary change. We are looking at a whole range of changes, some that could be implemented quickly and some that would come in over the summer to improve this, but for now we will keep on working to improve the community's experience as a whole.

It makes it a lot easier when other users try to help us rather than undermine, so for those users that are, thank you.

Again, I'm sorry you feel this way, but I genuinely believe it is a good change, and we do it to help not hinder.

"It's the top article on the articles sidebar" -> Kindly disprove me on that

"Mods are frequently around to remind people" -> Please refer to the myriad of articles from previous pages in this very thread and enlighten me on the "frequently" part which I cannot see

"During DZ times" -> Surely this is not a UK-exclusive site, yes?

"Void of ignorance" -> Analogous to "a thread just for the sake of having one, whether or not it is kept busy or not, as long as we have one"

In turn, I am sorry if you see it as "undermining", but I also feel genuinely concerned about not given due attention/consideration as regards my FH32 issues.

        Kind regards.

I don't think you're reading his comment charitably here! The RMT article was top when Rotation wrote it and it's still near the top in second.

I've said my bit below and I don't think you, me, or Rotation fundamentally disagree, other than you thinking it's a failure and us thinking it was a good thing to try and that it has been moderately successful for some users.

And I'm sure you've heard DZ used here.. I see the site analytics but you don't need that to acknowledge that it's real. Particularly in an IB, the DZ exists 😀

I’m a DGW 32 FH and I am chuffed they have made this decision.

Everyone’s FH is the same. Instead of wanting to post your team you are best of scrolling through previous pages and see people’s responses they had on their FH teams if you need food for thought.

It was tiring seeing everyone post near on the same FH team time and time again.

I initiated it because it worked very well pre-season with RMTs. It takes user buy in and that has and also hasn't happened.

I strongly disagree that it's dumping you into something unusable - it's an attempt to give people who care about their RMTs a space to get together to answer each other. For every one RMT in there, if users responded to four it would be great and would work very well, and would be very useful. Then people would see they get responses in there and they would stay there, further building that up as a place for RMTs.

Importantly however if people go in and post, lament they don't get responses, don't respond to others, and leave then of course it won't work.

It wasn't strongly advertised and I didn't use our tech teams time to design a new space. That is work for the summer not in the season when there's so much else we're focusing on.

And I'm not denying it could have been done better if more energy was given towards making it work but I put it out there as an option that the Community could run with. For me, FFS is about the Community and projects like that article, even with little initial effort, can either succeed or fail depending on user reactions

Yeah, I think for next year I'm going to make it possible for me to leave a comment frozen at the top of every page. That way important questions could be there, or reminders for users about site upgrades, new threads, or any other 'news' kind of thing

I have made some similar choices re. mids:

        Kepa
        Young*Duffy*Saiss
        Martial*Hazard*Pogba*Sterling*Dilva
        Higuain*Aguero

So I like it. Triple Chelsea defence "could" be amazing, but think Alonso could be risky.

Haha - should just to stick to my guns and go double Watford. Happy with my core big 6 core of 8 players so anything from a Palace/Watford combo would be a bonus.

Am I only one who think CP attackers are meh this GW?

Maybe Schlupp as he is OOP or WB/Guaita for price reasons but somehow I cant force myself to put Zaha in my team.
I like Aguero+Lukaku+Rash much more or just Aguero+MU striker with 2 up front.
I would defo go Jim but he looks like big rotation risk...and there is no one else there I can pick 🙁

      Dunk, Tomkins.

...just to be sure, are you on FH? If so have you downgraded to a 3.9m keeper? Few people have missed this, and 4.5m gives you a few better options in defence.

It's risky, Pedro, Willian, could play one each - and even come off early to give Hudson-Odio some minutes.
But I like him as a punt, he'll definitely start one of the games.

      1. SOTHPAW
        • 5 Years

I'm settled on my FH team but if Rashford isn't fit I'm going with Batshuayi and this allows me to upgrade a fourth mid, possibly Pedro.

        1. HamezMace

My FH team is currently 4-3-3. If rashford not fit will swap to Batshuayi and downgrade Shluup to bench fodder then upgrade bench fodder (Gunnarsson) to Pedro and play 3-4-3.
