Eliteserien Fantasy 2019 fixture analysis and Double Gameweek chip strategy

Managers need to make themselves aware of how best to handle the Eliteserien Fantasy 2019 fixture schedule.

In this final article of our preview coverage, we will have a look at the strategy for handling the early Double Gameweek, and any we might get in the future, as well as picking apart a rather helpful season ticker.

Double Gameweek 2 strategy

There seem to be two different approaches to the start of the season in Eliteserien.

The first option is setting up a team that ignores Double Gameweek 2, and uses the new “rich uncle” chip during that week to allow unlimited spending on it.

This allows you to build your team around the teams with the best opening fixtures outside of the Double, as well as planning for the long term.

It will also give you an optimal team for the Double Gameweek too, as you can get all the best, expensive options from Molde, Brann and Vålerenga, as well as Rosenborg.

The downside of this strategy is with the early Double Gameweek you can set your team up pretty well for the doubles from the start anyway. So is it a waste of this brilliant chip using it so early?

You can fit in more heavy hitters than you can without Rich Uncle, so you need these extra premium players to do well in the Double Gameweek and with Eliteserien being an unpredictable league, there are absolutely no guarantees.

So, the second option is to build a team from the start with Double Gameweek 2 in mind.

This could be a viable strategy as Molde, Brann and Vålerenga all have options that will be popular picks regardless of the double Gameweek.

Vålerenga have good fixtures on either side of the double. Brann and Molde don’t have the best fixtures in Gameweek 1 or 3, but they still have some solid options that potentially could do well regardless of the fixtures.

The big upside of this strategy is that it allows you to use Attack! Attack! or Two Captains in the Double Gameweek.

Vilhjalmson has looked good in pre-season, and Ohi will most likely be the first choice at Molde.

Sadly, there are question marks around Bamba. He’s been struggling with a back injury in pre-season, and he doesn’t seem to be as nailed-on as the first choice as some seem to think. There are rumours he might be benched in Gameweek 1 against Odd.

Kastrati is a doubt for Kristiansund as well, so I’m not sure there’s a good enough third striker pick for Attack Attack!

Two captains could be a better alternative, with Eikrem arguably as the standout captaincy pick.

Other Molde attackers like Hestad and Ohi could be the second captaincy choice, as well as Wormgoor from Brann or one of the Vålerenga attackers.

The downside of this strategy is that it is likely to require an early Wildcard, assuming you’re loading up on alternatives from the four teams with a Double Gameweek.

Rich Uncle could come in handy later in the season though, and if you can nail your Two Captains (or Attack! Attack!) it might be an equally good strategy.

This approach could also leave you with a worse team for Gameweek 1 and 3 compared to those using Rich Uncle.

What about later Double Gameweeks?

The Norwegian Football Association allow the clubs to ask for up to two game to be moved due to European involvement.

Molde and Brann have taken advantage of this possibility, while Rosenborg and Haugesund have not bothered.

This is the reason for the early Double Gameweek, and this means Brann, Vålerenga and Kristiansund experience Blanks in Gameweek 15.

If any of the four teams advance to the third qualifying round of the Europa League (or Champions League in Rosenborg’s case), they can ask for their GW17 fixtures to be moved.

Molde have already done this, which means their home meeting with Sarpsborg has been moved to Gameweek 15. This means Sarpsborg have two fixtures in Gameweek15, while Molde have a blank in Gameweek 17 instead of Gameweek 15.

Brann have already confirmed that their home game against Stabæk in Gameweek 17 will be moved if they advance in the Europa League qualifiers, presumably to round three.

They enter in the first round, and because of their low seeding, they will probably get a tough draw in round two. I don’t think Haugesund can realistically reach round three as they will have the same low seeding as Brann and have even less quality in their squad.

Rosenborg have not asked for their games to be moved in recent seasons, but we can’t rule it out this year.

There is a chance they didn’t ask for their Gameweek 15 fixture to be moved because they’ll most likely be drawn against a lesser team due to their decent UEFA club coefficient.

It’s more likely that they will face tougher teams in round three of the Champions League qualifiers, as well as in the playoff round.

Could this mean their Gameweek 17 home fixture against Tromsø and their Gameweek 19 home meeting with Stabæk could be moved? It’s an option, but I wouldn’t put too much into it at this stage.

There is also the Under-20s World Cup, which most likely will lead to Stabæk blanking twice in Gameweeks 9 and 10. Three of Stabæk’s key players are likely to be involved for Norway Under-20s during the tournament, and as a result, they can ask for these games to be moved if all three are indeed called up.

The matches at risk are with Vålerenga at home and against Odd away. If Stabæk vs Vålerenga is put into Gameweek 15 it would be the same case as with Sarpsborg and Molde. Vålerenga would blank in Gameweek 9 instead of Gameweek 15, and Stabæk will be the only team having a Double Gameweek in Gameweek 15 out of those two.

Vålerenga stand out with their early fixtures. They face newly promoted Mjøndalen in Gameweek 1 and Tromsø in Gameweek 3, as well as having two fixtures in the early Double Gameweek. Regardless of what strategy you are looking at, a triple-up on Vålerenga players seems to be justified.

Another team with an interesting opening schedule is Odd. They have three home games in the first four fixtures, with the away game against Rosenborg being played in Gameweek 2. For those considering the Rich Uncle strategy, you’ll get three straight home games from Odd players and avoid the away fixture against Rosenborg.

The defending champions also have a favourable opening program, with Bodø/Glimt away in Gameweek 1, Odd at home in Gameweek 2, Stabæk away in Gameweek 3 and Strømsgodset at home in Gameweek 4. All of those are fixtures you’d expect them to win, and there should be chances of both clean sheets and goals.

Molde start the season with three away games in the first four Gameweeks, as well as two favourable home games in the Double Gameweek. Their opening fixture at Sarpsborg is expected to be a really tough game for them. They also have to face Rosenborg at home in Gameweek 5, which is expected to be the toughest home game of the year.

Brann also have a tough start with Odd away, as well as an away game in the Western Norway derby against newly promoted team Viking. They do have two very favourable home games in Gameweek 2 though, like Molde.

Sarpsborg are expected to be one of the top teams this season and have some favourable fixtures in the middle of tough games versus Molde in Gameweek 1 and Rosenborg in Gameweek 6.

With home games versus Lillestrøm and Mjøndalen, as well as away games to Bodø/Glimt and a Haugesund team in a defensive crisis there is hope for returns from the Sarpsborg players.

Ranheim have been given a kind run of games to open the season. They are expected to struggle at the bottom of the league this year and have to get the most out of these opening fixtures to stay out of trouble.

They have home fixtures to Tromsø, Haugesund and Viking in the first five Gameweeks, as well as away games at Lillestrøm and Kristiansund. There could be some differential bargains to be had there.

Think I'll transfer out Meling and Akintola with the 2 FT after RU. No point in keeping until Rosenborg improve their form.

Keep Melling imo. Clean sheet points could be RBK's only asset at the start of the season.

Can't see a clean sheet until R8 to be honest. I'd back every other team they play up until that point to score past them. Think there's better CS and/or attacking return potential in more affordable players.

Can't really see how they can manage a clean sheet. The team looks like a complete mess on the pitch. Cheaper options might make it possible to upgrade elsewhere as well, so there's that to think about also.

Looking forward to the games tonight. Not quite the 11 dgwers i’d hoped for since gjertsen got injured but hopefully 10 if knudtzon shows his face.

How many are the rest of you expecting to get out?

First off, nice to meet a fellow Nigerian (educated guess) here 🙂

Secondly... 10 players as well. Double captain on Wormgoor and Finne has gone exceptionally well this runde, I must say 😐

Would be 9 if Knudtzon stays out again... But that means Moberg off the bench, so I HOPE he stays a no-show 😀

Kristiansen on the bench not the best of signs, but I'll take the 2 points and run

Was always a chance we’d have the odd benching. Just glad Molde haven’t let us down yet.

I was mainly drawn to Two Captains with Wormgoor and Eikrem because on paper it was probably the best move to do and most people would do it.

Potential for high points and insurance.

Having Ohi sit on 12 points and Wormgoor only 3 is a bit of a kick in the teeth! Potentially just 6 points for your captain rather than 24. Hurts!

Surely with Ohi's form he continues up front ahead of James, which probably makes it easier to shift Hestad out for someone a bit cheaper.

Looking at the league early doors Molde could run away with it this year, will be interesting to see what happens when Europa League qualification kicks in. Although this is the Eliteserien so will be interesting to see how Viking & Bodo Glimt carries on. ODD could be the team to put the pressure on Molde after a good start this season. Borven an option to consider over Vilhjalmsson maybe as Valerenga have three away games in the next five? But can't see him replacing Ohi (could be a rotation risk with James back) & Boli at the minute.

Quite happy with 103 points from playing RU, having hoped to reach 100 points. That leaves me with two transfers, one of which will be for Eikrem.

Will have to downgrade somewhere though, and I'm currently on two options:
                      1. Akintola/Meling > Eikrem/Stølås
                      2. Akintola/Knudtzon > Eikrem/Strand

Rosenborg are completely out of form, and I can't see them keeping a clean sheet. Stølås seems like a good Meling replacement. On the other hand I have Knudtzon who is unlikely to feature much, looking at his playing time so far. Which move should I look at?

That's true of course, but Rosenborg have been shockingly bad. They can't keep a clean sheet if they continue the way they've played so far.

Will be a close and difficult call this, as I see potential in both moves.

Who’s the best mid 6.5 and under?

Got to get Eikrim in, not liking my squad seeing him dissapeares after RU!

Strand is absolutely on fire right now.

There's a whole bunch of midfielders in that price range that could potentially be just as good.

Good to see Strand still involved with the points even with Berisha coming in and Bamba starting.

Mixed bag with Attack Attack but happy with 86. Ohi good, Vilhjalmsson bad, couldn't have predicted Amang injury. Would've been mixed if I'd gone 2C as well as I would've picked Eikrem and Wormgoor. Might be WC time already depending on Tønne and Amang injuries.

You've always gotta have luck on your side when you play those kind of chips.

104 with 2C (Eikrem and Wormgoor). Could've easily been more if Brann kept that clean sheet and Teniste actually played!

Diop and McDermott bringing in 14 points between them was a nice surprise but more unlucky was benching Psyches 10 points as I played Hoiland (1 point!) instead.

Would've taken guts to do much different at this stage in the season.

You've scored 22 higher than the average score so it's no way a bad week (especially when a lot of players will have potentially used RU already).

Should I wildcard this team or just do Teniste & Amang > Stolas & 5.5 fwd?

                          McDermott

Personally think it's way too early to be wildcarding just yet.

I keep making that mistake in FPL - determined not to do so in this.

I'd be looking at moving those two on, yeah.

Stolas is a good shout. I like Risa and maybe even a cheaper 5/4.5m defender. Definitely some value to be had there. I'd root around a bit see what appeals.

Some good budget forwards for sure. I'm not going to keep 3 Valengra players for much longer so I'd be looking at moving 1-2 of those guys on as well. You can progressively do that over the next few weeks without too much damage hit-wise.

This league is very unpredictable and it's already started with some bizarre results and loads of goals. I wouldn't be rustling too many feathers just yet - think there's more value in that team than you might think.

What's everyone's thoughts on Stromsgodset? Their striker Pedersen is a premium at 10.5, and has a goal already. They have 4 points out of 6 and Mjondalen next. Looking at last year's stats he wasn't far off Boli for goals either.

Strand Larsen isn't performing at all, so thinking of taking him out.

Pedersen was an ever present in my team last season until he became injured, but was a bit cheaper then I think ... there is quite a bit of option this year

Trouble with this game is it's so unpredictable right now apart from Molde

Decent team that spiralled ever lower last season for no good reason but injuries didn't help. Have lost several key players over the past year eg. EUA, Jradi. Pedersen's usually fairly reliable for a goal, esp home games, and takes penalties (his goal was a penalty). Not sure why he didn't start last game but guess they have formation options with Mos who's pretty clinical and basically kept them up.

Think I'm holding Strand Larsen so fingers crossed. Ok pre-season form isn't real form, but they've played Molde and Haugesund away. Not the easiest games. Also have Mjondalen in next 3.

I think I'll roll a transfer this week.

When I get rid of Kristiansen, it'll be for Stolas and the only way I can fund that is to get rid of Finne and he has too good a fixture this week. So that'll give me a chance to see how Strand Larsen's form continues.

Will then probably do Kristiansen, Finne, Larsen to Stolas, Evjen and Soderlund/Pedersen/Boli/Lehne Olsen.

Pedersen only has one shot all season and that was on a penalty. I prefer Mos over him.

Godset-Mjøndalen is a big local derby, wouldn't surprise me if Mjøndalen raise their game big time as they often do in these meetings. If you offer them relegation but beating Godset they will happily accept it.

I'm interested in them but Pedersen too much if he isn't nailed, especially with Mos cheaper and Pedersen's yellow card habit. Pellegrino's goal was good but barely noticed him last season, need to see more of the midfielders to consider them.

If you kept Strand Larsen through the first two I'd probably hold, I'm thinking of getting him in. Børven decent value and has form and fixtures.

Main Viking asset that appeals to me is Bytyqi. Thorstvedt is a decent player but I think you get so much value from Bytyqi.

A bit annoyed I went Brynhildsen over Bytyqi to be honest.

I was contemplating bringing in Bjorshol or Vevatne myself. Not too sure I'd do it just yet. Think there's higher chance of CS and AR from other targets.

Just been looking at the defensive stats, Viking extremely lucky to have had any clean sheets as the shots stats have been very even in their matches.

Defenders don't look great value at all - no clean sheets to speak of at all so far. Might even be best to go very cheap in defence and load up in attack.

                                    Ohi Vilhjalmson Strand Larsen

Rolling a transfer then looking at getting Stolas & another in for Kristiansen & Finne next week.

                                    Made 2FT to give me:

                                    Rossbach
                                    Meling, Wormgoor, Adekugbe.
                                    Rashani, Eikrem (K), Finne, Inge.
                                    Vilhjalmsson, Ohi, Larsen.

                                    2 FT
                                    Bamba > Jørgen Strand Larsen
                                    Haraldseid > Espen Ruud

Currently trying to figure out if I want to get rid of Bård Finne. I'm expecting him to do well at home, but 2x pre-60min subbing offs in the two GW 2 away matches doesn't sit well with a 9.5M midfielder...

                                    McDermott
                                    Wormgoor - Ruud - Adekugbe
                                    Strand - Eikrem (C) - Leikvoll Moberg - Finne
Strand Larsen - Ohi - Vilhjálmsson (VC)
                                    ...
                                    Barli - Diop - Salquist - Psyché

I'm giving him another week. A goal in the first 60 minutes of this gameweek could put an end to the early subbings.

                                        Yes. That is a possibility.
But when I compare Finne to Zachariassen/Rashani/Hestad/Berisha (all of which are practically guaranteed 80+ minutes both home and away) he doesn't look too tempting now.

Yeah, I'm looking at that for next week if he doesnt perform, possibly also doing Vilhjalmsson to Boli.

                                    Done!

                                    Holmen Johansen
                                    Wormgoor, Meling, Juárez
Eikrem (C), Nordkvelle, Strand, Hestad, Leikvoll Moberg
                                    Ohi, Vilhjálmsson

                                    Vaikla, Rojas Jiménez, Pirinen, Psyché

Looks like Eikrem is essential, did two transfers (-4) to get him in. Odd has nice fixtures coming up and of the players I could afford Nordkvelle looked like most tolerable option. Sörli (KBK 5,0) was an option. Out went Finne and Aursnes.

                                    Good luck y'all!

                                    2 free transfers this week....
Reginiussen > Strand and Akintola > Eikrem. Vilhjalmsson (C). Pretty pleased with my team.

I've pulled the trigger on WC, which means 10 changes to the team. Wormgoor, Strand, Ohi, and Eikrem will stay.

                                    Vasyutin - Wichne
                                    Ruud - Wormgoor - Stølås - Ness - Sell
                                    Eikrem - Berisha - Rashani - Strand - Evjen
Ohi - Børven - Strand Larsen

                                    0.4 ITB

I still haven't quite decided on the GK situation. Strømsgodset and Mjøndalen have a really good home rotation in the first half of the season. GW12 is the only week where the home team will face one out of Molde, Rosenborg, Brann, Sarpsborg, Odd and Vålerenga at home. Mjøndalen are unfortunately better in away games. They had 9 CS away and 7 at home last season.

I still think André Hansen will be the highest scoring GK even if RBK struggles a bit. My worry is that the defenders are pushing up too aggressively when the team lose the ball, leading to more big chances conceded and fewer easy saves.

Rossbach got the fixtures to do well, but hasn't impressed so far this season. I could get him in by dropping Rashani, but in that case I would likely be able to afford André Hansen.

Wildcarded. Too many injury doubts and non-nailed players and I was looking for any opportunity to hop on Odd and Sarpsborg's good fixtures.

Teniste, Jansen, Finne, Tønne, Kalludra, Ingebrigtsen, Amang → Risa, Næss, Rashani, Strand, Lindseth, Ibrahimaj, Børven. Will probably also do Psyche → Sell if the latter is starting tonight.

Was tempted to give Finne one more chance but Vilhjalmsson (K) will hopefully be enough VIF coverage.

Looks like I missed the deadline... the joys of losing your phone somewhere in the Alps!

                                    Set up with the following:

                                    McDermott
                                    Adekugbe Wormgoor Meling
                                    Strand Knudtzon* Hestad Finne
                                    StrandLarsen Ohi Vilhjalmsson (k)

Annoyingly didn't get to make the change with Knudtzon and also burned a FT, but will have 2FT for next week still.

Not in the worst shape and a comfortable 9k OR with all chips in tact.

Anyone know whether Brynhildsen will start for Stabaek? Otherwise I've got 1.0m ITB and could take him out for someone 6.5> . Considering I already have Strand, who else is a good midfield option at 6.5m or less?

I've got Brynhildsen and £1.0m ITB too, but already have Strand. I'm guessing Brynhildsen will start though, as he's started both so far.
