Scoutcast Episode 292 – Hindsight

The captain hindsight brigade was out in full force this week to bash the Scoutcasters – among others – for recommending Brighton defender Shane Duffy for the Gameweek 34 armband.

With goal threat and two home games against Bournemouth and Cardiff, it seemed a good call. But with seven goals conceded without reply over this pair of games, reality had other ideas.

Az, Joe and their guest Adam Hopcroft take stock of a less-than-inspiring Double Gameweek, with no regrets about their armband blunder.

For Az and Adam, captaining a player with two fixtures over one had merit, especially in a week with no standout captain elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Joe was looking for another Stephane Sessegnon moment. This refers to the “VE Day”-style celebrations among the Fantasy community back in 2012, when the similarly unlikely Double Gameweek armbandee rifled in an injury-time goal against Reading for Sunderland in the Black Cats’ second match that week. It was so memorable that, almost seven years on, Az even remembers who got the assist during that magical moment.

Aside from assessing their newly deployed Wildcards, the crew also take stock of the community’s questions. The fallout from Troy Deeney’s red card and Mohamed Salah’s return to goalscoring form are among the issues covered.

Coping with rotation among the ranks of Manchester City and Spurs also gets an airing.

The Scoutcast’s latest talking point draws inspiration from the top managers this season, to find out what lessons we can learn from them and what it takes to gain an elite-level overall rank.

The community’s roughest and smoothest moves are looked at, including one of the most shambolic Wildcards of all time.

The crew finish off with a detailed look at their Gameweek 35 clean sheet predictions, differential tips, captaincy calls and transfer plans.

take place w/c Monday, April 29 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the return leg in Amsterdam the following week. Also means the Bournemouth league game will now be brought forward from the Monday night.

Eriksen and Vardy to Raz and Wilson more than likely. But that would leave me short of getting an extra Liverpool player in for the Huddersfield game so probably best to save the free transfer. Or should I do Vardy to Firmino this GW?

Brighton play a more reserved football similar to Huddersfield who did the double on Wolves, and have beat Wolves 1-0 earlier this season themselves both not great teams but perhaps a tight game to come hoping Wolves quality shines through

True. Even so, wolves will score. Really with Brightons run in, they need to win this. That will leave them open at the back. Jimmi and Jota will have a field day.

Yeah, Wolves are not playing for anything and Spurs will have their 3rd game in a week after two encounters with City. I don't own any Brighton but I don't think there's a smashing there given Brighton will try to scrap as much as they can. Remember they only lost 1-0 to City in the FA cup.

Football is never predictable. No one would have thought Brighton would be on a fun of 4 wins in 24 games after winning 3 on the bounce. They looked abject in their last 2. I agree with a previous post. There are many people convincing themselves their 3 pronged Brighton sh!t fest will get them bb points. They wont. Only -

Laporte, Valery, Ryan, Duffy and Deeney (and Bednarek certain on bench) in my team. In scoutcast there was talk about risk that some single week players may not play last matches. Yet I fear now that this risk is close also now.

Not sure Salah is as necessary as people think, however you do need an attacker for that game. For me, no reason to pay for Salah right now when Mane works just fine.

I like those moves, tough week for premium defender picks but Ederson and Mendy well up there.

As a Kun and Laporte owner and Sterling non-owner do you think I need to change my plan?

      Was going to do:
Deeney, Duffy > Wilson, Yoshida (-4)
      And play BB with this:

      Foster
      Robbo, Laporte, Doherty
      Salah, Eriksen, Son, Jota
      Kun (C), Jimi, Wilson
      (Lloris) (JWP, Yoshida, Valery)

      Thoughts?

Wouldn't bother with Duffy → Yoshida (-4) in any case unless you need the extra cash. Wolves struggle against smaller teams, Brighon all to play for, Tottenham knackered after that, Duffy could easily just score a header.

only hope for those with Duffy or Dunk is a header from a corner, apart from that they are going to get zero points again as feel wolves will smash them at home and so will spurs.. be lucky to get 1pt per game.

Exactly. I need to fund the Deeney move anyway do feels a win win.

You think makes sense? Can Laporte stay?

they are good moves, however I have Laporte as well and think he could be dropped after his performance tonight, Ottamendi and Stones fit and raring to go.. who knows with Pep.. however doubt he will play Kompany at the weekend so hard to know

Hmm a hit to take out Laporte feels wrong though. Who to?!

That would be lucky, I can bench Duffy though.

      Best Option:

      1. BB = Foster Duffy Dunk Romeu (could use 1FT to improve, maybe WAT def)
      2. TC = Jimenez or Kun

      Thanks

Never been so certain about a captain choice this gameweek - Sterling. He’s on absolute fire

So are KdB and Kun, triple up might be interesting, but also hurt if they are all rested same time.

Is there a small chance of another DGW?

Spurs play Bournrnoth on the Monday night (6th May) and the return leg will likely be a Tuesday or Wednesday.

Will they just move it to the weekend?

At this rate I can see fpl pricing KDB at 13m next season. Which is irritating

He's not played at all this season. He starts at 10m like this season or 10.5m max.

Exactly. In the short period he has played he's been totally unrivalled.

On tonight’s evidence my GW35 captain is Salah or Son. Salah has scored in 3 straight games now and just seems to have found his game again. Son was superb tonight but a rotation risk.

      RMBBT (-4)

      Foster Ryan
      Laporte Trippier TAA Doherty Cathcart
      Sterling Mane Eriksen Son JWP
      Jimenez Vardy Wilson

Planned move is Deeney & Duffy > Wilson & Cathcart
